Fealty
There was only one purpose to her existence. It did not matter how she died, as long as she lived serving one man.
There was no "before" Seiren's vampire life. There was only "after," when Kaname Kuran named her and took her under his wing.
It did not matter how she was "before," because she did not exist anymore.
There was only the "after," the "now" and "future" Seiren, loyal bodyguard and spy of Kaname.
All the aristocrats who claimed fealty to the Kurans were only seeking to better themselves, to elevate their status in the vampire hierarchy. Seiren knew, just as Kaname knew, of the true nature of vampire society.
Thus, when she vowed fealty, it was private. There were no witnesses, no ceremony, no soirée.
Just Kaname, her savior. Her lord.
And her. Nobody, just someone her lord chose to serve him.
When she kissed his hand, it was without obligation or ulterior motive. His beautiful skin, his dark eyes, his secret plans were all under her protection now.
And if it was possible to be reborn after turning to dust, she knew she would watch over his coffin as he slept for eternity until he awakened again.
