Guilty
In retrospect, Takuma never actually owed Kaname anything. Their friendship was mutually supported by their parents, but blossomed organically. Kaname was like an elder brother, always there, a pillar of support, but also his own being, a walking enigma.
Not like Sara.
Sara saved Takuma's life, and proceeded to blackmail him into servitude. He found her intriguing, hypnotizing. As terrible as her actions were, he couldn't seem to truly rebel against her.
He pushed back against Kaname when Senri was possessed by Rido Kuran. He made little teasing comments about Yuki during her ten years as a disguised human. He was never truly afraid of Kaname, Pureblood status be damned.
But he was terribly, desperately, wonderfully afraid of Sara.
That fear, the fear that magnetizes all vampires to Purebloods, like bees to the hive, pulled on Takuma's soul.
He told himself that all he felt was pity. He saw a lonely heart underneath Sara's despicable actions; she was not unlike Kaname in that case. But unlike Kaname, who had his entire motivation wrapped up in protecting Yuki, Sara was completely self-absorbed.
Takuma knew that. He did, and yet….
He left his friends hanging for over a year. He left Kaname's side. He turned a blind eye to Sara's treachery, the guilt gnawing at his gut, but the delicious, tantalizing disquiet that was Sara, Sara, Sara kept him silent.
Her death was a mercy and a devastation. He held her shattered remains, the sin of his conflicted soul laid to dust.
AN: No joke, Takuma's relationship with Sara is low-key the most toxic in the series.
