Chapter One: As History Repeats Itself

"Ah not good," the young man exclaimed, quickly gathering his bag onto his back and making a beeline for the front door, "Gotta go mom or I'm gonna be late, see you later!"

"Bye Hiro!"

The young boy gave one final wave, then turned on heel again and darted out of the open door, hurrying out of the room as fast as he could, 'My name is Hirotodoki! Sekitanda Hirotodoki!~ I'm starting my first year at Asahiyama Highschool very shortly! It was a close call just now but I'm still keeping good time, so let's get this one on the road!"

New places were intimidating, Hirotodoki had always believed that. New places meant new people, new expectations, new ways to get lost and new ways to find trouble. He had become used to moving over the years, his father often did so due to the nature of his employment, but this was the first time that they'd been forced to move in a while. Hirotodoki clutched the strap of his shoulder bag a little tighter then, finally, after exhaling one more breath, he began the ascent of the stairwell in front of him.

There were a good many students dotted around the area, chatting amongst themselves, some even sharing jokes and laughter. This was another thing that made Hirotodoki nervous. Transferring during the second year of high-school was difficult, even early in the year because friend groups, and a status quo has already been established the previous year. It can be quite difficult to find your place within that status quo even despite your best efforts. Hirotodoki was trying his best not to dwell on it, but he really hoped things would turn out for the best.

"First things first," he said quietly to himself, once he'd reached the top of the stairs, "Finding the faculty office to organize the final details of my transfer." Steeling himself for the final time, Sekitanda Hirotodoki entered Asahiyama High School's building for the very first time. The scene the door opened up to was about the one the young man expected to find. Lockers right at the entrance, then the entryway itself.

Hirotodoki pushed past the gathering students, and muttered, "If I remember the information I was given correctly, the faculty office is at the west end of the first floor." He hung a left at the last of the lockers and slowly continued his journey along. It wasn't exactly any type of exciting sight-seeing as far as the decor of the school went. Mostly white with a splash of dark green here and there, usually being the color of the doors.

Thankfully, even despite the great number of students trying to get into their classrooms, Hirotodoki was able to navigate the flow of traffic, squeeze between a couple of students with accompanying apologies and 'excuse me's', and find himself in front of the green door at the end of the road. He'd found the faculty office. A sigh of relief was on Hirotodoki's lips before he could hold it back and he nodded to himself, pushing the door open and stepping inside.

"Sorry for the intrusion my name's Sekitanda Hirotodoki," he said, bowing his head politely, "I was told to report here this morning?"

"Ah, our new transfer student," the person at the desk said, "Good to see you're on time, We just need to arrange the last few details of your transfer and then we'll have you escorted to your classroom."

"Thank you," Hirotodoki said appreciatively.

It took a little while, but eventually, the process was completed and Hirotodoki was handed his brand new student ID card, meaning he was now officially a student at Asahiyama. He'd - The door slowly pushed open again, a woman with deep crimson hair stylized fashionably and clipped back with star-shaped clips on either side of her face entered the room. She pushed her glasses up her face, and smiled, "Sekitanda Hirotodoki, right? I'm Ms. Nakano, I'll be your homeroom teacher. I'm here to take you to class."

"R-right, we'd best get going then," Hirotodoki said nervously, then turned back to the woman behind the desk and bowed politely, "Thank you again for your help this morning."

"It's no trouble, I hope you enjoy your time here."

The first thing Hirotodoki noticed once they had left the faculty office was that the amount of students remaining in the hall had been reduced by a significant amount. This was only natural given how close they were to class starting, but he still found it somewhat unnerving.

"It's natural to be nervous, I transferred here in my second year too," Hirotodoki heard his new homeroom teacher say aloud.

"What happened?" the student asked her curiously.

Miss Nakano only laughed quietly, "It's a long story, long enough that it might make a nice manga or something. High school life was never straight forward for me."

"I only just got here and I have a bad feeling it's going to be the same for me."

"Don't discount yourself just yet," Miss Nakano told him, "You'll figure it out. After all, I did."

And that made Hirotodoki curious, but he didn't want to pry any further, it was rude to do so. Still, the fact that Miss Nakano had seen how nervous he was, and did her part to help him settle was a sign of how good a teacher she was going to be, he was sure of it! The transfer may have been an unexpected one given how long it'd been since the job last forced his father to move, but maybe he'd be able to enjoy the last two years of his schooling here?

Sekitanda Hirotodoki had no idea at that moment just how difficult his life was about to become.

"Alright," Miss Nakano said, "Classroom's here, I'll go in first and announce you so just wait out here, okay?"

Hirotodoki put on a smile, and nodded once, "Sure. I'll hang back."

The red-haired woman nodded, then turned away and walked inside her classroom, leaving her new student to wait for his announcement in the hallway. He was prepared, knowing he was going to have to introduce himself to the students once Miss Nakano had explained the situation. He was used to it by now, having done this so many times in the past. All he had to do was not mess it up.

"That's your cue," he heard from inside the classroom, "Please come in."

He'd lost count of how many times he'd exhaled a heavy breath this morning, perhaps it was natural given how many new things were being thrown at him one after another, he placed himself inside the classroom and bowed politely toward the classroom.

"My n-name's Sekitanda Hirotodoki, it's nice to meet you all."

Turns out the introduction to his classmates had been the most difficult thing for Hirotodoki and the schoolwork, at least, had not changed all that much from the previous school he'd attended. He found himself easily following along with everything, jotting down the notes in his new notebook and listening intently to what his instructors were telling him. Soon enough, he'd made it through his morning classes and the time for lunch arrived.

Hirotodoki made his way silently through the halls, eventually reaching his destination, and he finally approached the counter for the school's cafeteria. The place in itself was nearly overcrowded by students, and it took some navigating for Hirotodoki to be able to avoid crashing into someone. Perhaps he should've waited a little bit? Then he could've avoided such things entirely? That aside, he pushed through the last gap of people and arrived at the counter.

"What would you like?"

He didn't want such a full stomach that he would spend his afternoon lesson trying to desperately keep himself awake, his lunch selection would prove to set the tone of the entire day. As the new transfer, he had to make sure that his grades were up to scratch and this was going to be the way to start him off on the right foot.

"One beef bowl combo, hold the beef."

There we go. Sure, it's the cheapest thing on the menu, but- with rice, veggies and fruit slices it would be enough to fuel his brain for the afternoon and at the same time wouldn't be so much food that he was fighting sleep instead of fighting vocabulary and numeracy. Excellent Choice, Hiro!

Feeling elated by his choice, and ignoring the weird looks he was getting from the students around him, Hirotodoki turned away from the lunch counter, his eyes already peeling across the cafeteria to search for an empty table. Ah, there's one! Near the end of the cafeteria!

Hirotodoki was so focused on his discovery that he didn't notice the distant smile on the cafeteria lady's face, as if she were remembering another moment in time far removed from the present. Hirotodoki began to slide his lunch tray down onto the table below him, then, a loud smack! Engulfed the room and the boy was forced to look up from his tray. The sight that he was met with was striking dark blue eyes and obsidian black hair. The girl's hair was long and wavy, her bangs pulled to the right and a single lock trailed down her right cheek. The main thing that was noticeable about her hairstyle however, was the white flower accessory, a clip that had a long ribbon flowing from it.

"Excuse me," the girl said sharply, "You're about to take my seat."
