Lightning was at training with Doc Hudson who is also the judge, doctor, former racer, his crew chief and his dad.
"How am I doing dad?" Lightning asked.
Lightning was only 22 years old and racing since he was 18.
"Good, maybe just a bit slower. That's better." Doc answered.
They had training until three thirty and it was three o'clock now. Half an hour later the two of them went to Flo's for a snack.
"Hey buddy!" said Matter.
Matter was his best friend. He was 26 years old and adopted by Sheriff when he was a kid.
"Hi Ma-ma-ma-ACHOO! Matter." Lightning said and sniffled.
Doc could tell that Lightning wasn't feeling good.
"Bless you." everyone said.
He sniffled and said, "Thanks."
Doc came over and felt his forehead. He didn't like the temperature.
"Come on, let's go get a check-up really quick. You feel a bit warm."
He sniffled. "But dad I feel fi-fi-fi-ACHOO! Fine."
Doc crossed his arms raised an eyebrow. Lightning sighed and stood up and when he started walking he felt dizzy. Matter saw him so he ran over and caught him as he started to fall.
"Are you alrigh'?" he asked.
Lightning nodded. Sheriff brought him a chair so he could sit down.
He sniffled and said, "I'm fine guys I can take care of myself!"
He stood up and fell on his seat.
"Lightning you can't even stand up! Never mind walk or drive!" said Doc worriedly.
Lightning shook his head not liking where this was going.
"I, I think you should skip this next race." he said putting his hand on his shoulder.
"But, but I'm fine!"
Doc sighed, "You have a week to feel better. And if you still don't you miss the race, got it?" Lightning nodded.
The next few days Doc has been watching Lightning closely. He was still a little dizzy so he's been going slow. One day Doc was looking at him and was surprised to see how much better he looked. His temperature seemed fine, he was just a little snifflly and still a tiny bit dizzy.
"Well, you look pretty good. You still have the sniffles and seem a bit dizzy but other than that you look fine."
"Thanks dad. So, what do you think, racing or no racing?" Lightning asked.
"Well, why don't you give yourself today and tomorrow off and then if you're not dizzy then yes."
Lightning smiled, nodded and left.
' I really hope he'll be Ok if he can start racing. ' Doc thought.
He knew how much he loved to race. Sunday he was looked at again by Doc. No fever, no sniffles, and no dizziness.
"Alright, you look fine to me."
"Does that mean I can race this season?"
"I think so, you be careful though ok son?"
"Ok dad."
After that he went to Flo's and got some lunch.
