Chapter 44: Getaway
Within the dead of night, the operation is about to begin for Panam gives them shards which provides them with the layout of the old military base within the mountain. "Well, you two will get going while we prepare to leave. We will be here to safeguard the camp you are away," Panam said.
"Alright, time to go," Cortez said as he was in his combat gear while carrying his custom Ajax assault rifle dubbed Bulldog with all its attachments including a foregrip, and a canted sight on the side. He takes a suppressed Liberty pistol with a red dot sight and laser sight.
Rebecca slings her long guns M31A5 aka Bonds and Carnage aka Guts across her back while putting her sidearms into her armored jacket. She added a pouch above her butt which held her extra ammo and grenades. "I needed this with all the weapons I got now," she said being a walking armory on legs.
"Yes, the guns are pressing against my body," he said as he was lucky to be compact allowing Rebecca to sling her weapons over him.
"Don't bother you right?' she asked.
'Not at all. I feel safer. You got the C5?" he asked as she put her pouch.
"Got them right here," Rebecca said as they got into the truck to head off to the location of the Militech stronghold.
"Okay, we got our layout of this abandoned Militech base. "It's well defended with tons of Power Armor, Dragoons, automatic defenses, and tanks. Also, with several special forces units like the Cyber Commandos, Jumpers, and Shock Troopers. A straight fight would be beyond stupid. There is a breach we can slip through and then we split off to do our objectives," Cortez said.
"Aye sir," Rebecca said lightly as they arrived at the mountain to park the truck to saw a crack in a wall which let them slip through to be within the belly of the beast. "Oh shit," she said to see a huge military compound built within the caverns loaded with Militech troops and equipment.
"Time for some payback," they go into the door to be within the complex to hear troops enjoying their time inside unaware that the two nomads were inside. "Stick behind me," Cortez raises his rifle to take point.
He peeks at the door to see several Militech troopers chilling out inside. He tosses a flashbang to let out a blast of light to blind everyone to slip through to quickly take them out with bursts of fire. All seven soldiers are dead on the floor.
"Damn, like out of a movie," Rebecca said as they keep going to get behind come crates to see patrolling troops going by. They slip into a room to take down soldiers with melee strikes without making a sound. "Perfect," she thought as they went through a warehouse area to see a few snipers overhead.
"Better pace ourselves here," Cortez said as they slipped between the crates and boxes to avoid the sight of the guards.
"Hey you wondering about that mission in Haze?" the guard wondered as Cortez and Klunk were interested in what they had to say.
"What's wrong?" Rebecca asked.
"They are talking about Haze," Cortez said as Rebecca remembered Stella wanted to go there to gather info on Biotechnia and their evil experiments.
"Yeah, there is a big airship and everything. Trying to find the secrets of what Biotechnia is hiding there," the other guard said.
"I heard weird things going on at that island. Terrible creatures and awful experiments on people," the guard said feeling unnerved by this.
"No wonder command wants to take the island. There could be some things there that will give us an edge," the other guard said.
"That doesn't sound good," Cortez said.
"They are sending troops to Haze. What is there, that they want," Rebecca said as she needed to tell this to Stella when they get back from here.
"Yeah, we should worry about that when we leave out of here," they slip through a door as Cortez tackles a soldier to snap his neck to dump him into a crate to hide his corpse. "We should be getting close to a lift," he said as they entered a group where he pouted rounds into the heads of soldiers to guide the way.
"Dogs," Rebecca said as they saw Cyber dogs patrolling the area. "There are two of them," she said as Cortez used his Netrunning to hack into their brains to trigger a Synaptic Burnout melting their brains to drop onto the floor.
"Okay, let's move," he said as they got to the elevators. "Okay, time to split up. I go up and you go down," Cortez said as Rebecca went to kiss him on the lips.
"For luck, stay safe baby," Rebecca said.
"I should say the same to you. Time to Split," Cortez said as Rebecca chuckled at this. "What?" he asked.
"So corny but cute. See you later," Rebecca said as they took different lifts to go to their objectives.
Elsewhere Agent Robinson is talking with her counterpart Agent Watson who is leading an operation within a huge airship to the island that houses Haze, a town under the control of Biotechnia.
"So how is the operation doing there?" Robinson asked.
"Not good, I send teams down there but those monsters ripping them apart. The air defenses left behind are only us back from launching a full assault," Watson said.
"What is Myers seeking there?" Robinson asked.
"Well, it seems like Biotechnia is working on some powerful Bioware here as well as bioweapons here. Living bioweapons," Watson said.
"Seriously, so the rumors were true. The nomads killed the giant crocodile in the sewers of San Francisco and the 10-foot gorilla owned by the Bozos. Along with those disgusting Creepers. All go back to Biotechnia," Robinson said.
"Yeah, they are hellbent on information getting out that they were doing human experimentation and turning people into monsters. This will destroy their reputation and all the mega-corps will exploit this," Watson said.
"We will as well. Gathering data will aid in our experiments while knocking them down a peg," Robinson said.
"Also, there is another issue. Someone has summoned an agent to come here as well. They are causing us trouble here. Look at this image," Watson said as he showed a woman in blue sneaking around killing his soldiers.
"Interesting, a spy has entered there?" Robinson asked.
"Yes, she is from a private company called Wellington Institute. They have special agents who are trained to serve the interests of the Free States of America. Nothing but traitors," Watson said.
"But they are dangerous, they are a counterpoint to the FSA for us here. We need to keep watch of their movements," Robinson said.
"Also, there is another problem but we can talk about that later," Watson said as he cut off the chat.
"Seems like things are too quiet here," Robinson said as he contacted one of the officers. "Hello, see anything suspicious?" she asked.
"No madam, nothing has been detected," a trooper said as Robinson found this weird. She knows the nomads are staying at the home base.
"Something is not right, I can feel it," Robinson said.
Elsewhere Cortez is using Synaptic Burnout to cook the brains of Militech troopers to clear the way. He swiftly puts rounds into the heads of soldiers and cyber dogs to silently them.
Cortez has been hacking cameras to make them show no sign of his presence. He checks the layout to see if he is getting close to the security room where all the automatic defenses are set up.
He gets behind the door to slip the flashbang to let out a bright light to swiftly go in to take out 8 soldiers in a row via headshots. "Okay, I got control of the security room," he said plugging into the console to insert a virus made by Lucy to take control of this old network. "Bingo," he said as the virus took over and switched the defenses to turn on the Militech troops beginning to wipe them out.
"What the fuck is happening here?" the soldiers questioned as they were getting killed off.
Robinson is shocked by this as the whole base is in disarray to see rows of soldiers getting killed by the turrets and drones. "Damn it, they are here. Slippy bastards," Robinson said to pull out her swords to go out to seek out her target and help out her troops.
"Perfect," Cortez said as he looked over to see several Militech troopers with riot shields and Lexington auto pistols.
"The traitor, kill him now," the troopers said as Cortez dived behind cover to avoid the 9mm rounds. Cortez uses his PLS to fire a mini rocket to blast apart half the soldiers to wipe them out. The blast knocks them down the rest as he tears them up with his custom Ajax.
"So, Cortez screwing around with the desert rats?" Robinson asked on the loudspeakers.
"Better that than being around stone hearts like you," Cortez said as he tossed a pyro grenade to set several troopers on fire screaming intense pain.
"You have amazing talent as a Cyber Commando. You would help in rebuilding America and returning it to its full glory," Robinson said sounding like a zealot.
"Sorry, you are delusional just like your boss. You are fighting for an America that doesn't exist. America died in the 1990s becoming a Corpo Fascist state. This America has no future," Cortez said as he was killing off a bunch of Militech soldiers with the 6.5mm rounds tearing through their bodies.
"Then you are a traitor to this nation. Working with the FSA and Arasaka to subvert us," Robinson said.
"Believe what you want. I know it's better to be a traitor and a desert rat than to be part of a fallen empire that no one cares about," Cortez said as he saw a Minotaur gun down a bunch of soldiers with its twin HMGs.
Cortez hacks into the Minotaur to take control of its 50 BMG machine guns to crave a path of destruction to wipe out over 20 soldiers. All their bodies were broken and the old walls were red with their blood. He made the Minotaur charge into a crowd of enemies to make the robot explode taking them out.
"Have it your way Cortez, I hope you can see your old comrades," Robinson said.
"There is no loyalty in Militech, just blood and pain," Cortez said as he kept going with the auto defenses killing off hundreds of soldiers. "Time to head for the power room. Time to split," he said to fight his way towards the generator room.
Elsewhere Rebecca hits the bottom of the complex to see Cortez hack into the system to let them fight against the Militech soldiers. "Time to go nuts," Rebecca wielding her scoped revolver to kick a box into the head of a soldier.
She dashes forward to blast him in the head as she shoves her fist into the chest of a female soldier. "Shoot the midget," the soldiers were firing their weapons but Rebecca was using the woman's corpse as a meat shield.
"I take offense to that," Rebecca said angrily using her Love to pop them in the head to slice through their helmets and skulls. She latches a Gash grenade onto the corpse and kicks it across the hallway. The grenade unleashes beams of lasers to slice into the troops.
"I mean, they are right in a sense," Klunk said as Rebecca was not amused by this.
"That is not funny," Rebecca said as she tossed a frag to take out a group of enemies. She jumps on top of a soldier to twist his neck and tosses her into a crowd of soldiers. She uses her Lexington to pump them all with hot AP 9mm bullets to slice into their bodies.
A soldier is holding a Multishot to fire grenades to slam into Rebecca to knock her into a wall. Her armored jacket holds up against the blast. She toughens her skin weave to tank the rest of the grenade hits to deliver a powerful punch to hear his bones breaking.
She claps both hands against his skull to crush it into red paste. Rebecca dashes forward to slide between the legs of the soldier. She kicks her head hard enough to knock it right off her body. Blood is shooting out of the exposed neck slot to drop onto the floor.
"Okay, we should be going outside," she said as she hopped through a door to go into the caverns. She sees a bunch of Creepers appearing with the defenses not targeting them anymore. "Time to blow a hole and flood the area with Creepers," she said rushing over with the bugs eating a bunch of Militech soldiers to notice Rebecca running at them.
They hover and fly towards Rebecca with her using her M31A5 to pump a bunch of rounds to knock them out of the air to crash onto the rocky floor.
She plants the C5 on a certain section of the wall to get away from setting it off. The big blast rips a huge hole letting out a wave of Creepers, Stealth Creepers, and Armored Creepers to flow towards the complex.
"We got it, time to head for the keycard which should be in the warehouse," Rebecca said as she rushed back into the complex.
"Well, we need to deal with the Creepers as well," Klunk said as a Militech soldier got tackled and got their head bitten off.
"Yeah, I know," she takes a Crisp-er flamethrower to begin burning the bug to see it fall onto the floor burning up and leaving a nasty smell. "Goodness," she said to see more Creepers coming at her leaving behind a path of death in their way.
She uses her flamethrower to let out jets of flame to set the bugs on fire to make her way to the warehouse area where the keycard is located.
The humanoid bugs were invading the base as Militech forces were being overwhelmed by drones, turrets, and Creepers.
"Fuck, this is complete FUBAR. We need to escape," a soldier said to Robinson.
"Not an option, stand your ground," Robinson said rushing towards the keycard location where the nomads would be heading for. "Shit, this is too good for a bunch of nomad rats," she said to arrive at the warehouse location to wield her two blades.
Rebecca has gotten into the warehouse to see the keycard within a shipping container. "Got it," she said to slip it into her jacket. "Time to get out of here," Rebecca said,
"There you are," Agent Robinson leaps from the top to cut her with blades. Her skin weave holds up leaving some bloody cuts behind but her skin rapidly is healing.
"Oh shit," Rebecca fires her M31A5 as Robinson is using her enhanced relaxes to deflect and block all her shots. "You are a full borg?" she questioned as she fired a few shots to hit her in the chest to tank her shots.
"Yes, I am going to enjoy wiping you out. We know you murdered one of our agents on the moon. We have taken this personally," Robinson kicks Rebecca into a crate. She lunges with her blades as Rebecca ducks to kick the borg woman across the floor.
She fires slugs managing only to hit a hit to her chest pushing her backwards. Her armored chest holds off the slug as she shakes this off.
"That tickle," Robinson said as she opened her mouth to spit fireballs at her.
"Oh shit," Rebecca is dodging the fireballs as she lobs Riot grenades to pin her to the floor. She fires a few shots to damage her metal body and delivers a flying kick to knock her into a crate.
"Seems like she has some top-tier armor," Klunk said as Robinson burned the goo to leap at Rebecca again to dodge her attacks. She shoves her away to blast her with her shotgun.
"Not my problem, agent lady. You shouldn't be hunting my friend," Rebecca said to pull out her revolver to fire at her head to clip her cheek with blood leaking down her face.
"Myers needs her for her project. To bring America back to being the top dog once again and I am not going to let some rats get in the way of that," Robinson slashes Rebecca for her jacket took damage while setting the jacket on fire.
"Oh fuck," Rebecca takes off the jacket with Klunk floating off her back. "Damn it," she sees the armored jacket has been burned and too damaged to be useful. "You are going to pay for that," she said as Robinson lunged at her but Rebecca tossed the jacket to cover her face.
"Damn it," Rebecca wielding her Love and Blood sidearms to unload onto her chest and face. She uses a mule kick to slam into her wounded chest.
"Not bad, I see why V picked you to be one of his heavies. I am going to be happy to send your head to him," Robinson activates her blood pump to inject herself with Black Lace giving her a big boost to her body. "Oh, that feels wonderful," she said able to go faster to catch Rebecca off guard to deliver several slashes onto Rebecca's body to leave behind bloody cuts.
"What is happening?" she asked.
"Black Lace is a powerful combat drug used by militaries to boost their adrenaline and endorphins levels up to the point that one is almost incapable of feeling pain. Also pushes them to the edge of Cyberpsychosis," Klunk said.
"That's insane," she said as Robinson split her arms in half to reveal four arms having one blade in each hand. "Fuck me, like that droid general in that star wars movie," Rebecca said.'
"Don't mock me, I will turn you into bloody ribbons," Robinson is going into a wild state as the drugs are pushing her mind and body over the edge but allowing her to overwhelm Rebecca with powerful swift slashes leaving bloody cuts.
Rebecca is using her sidearms to deflect and block the incoming slashes but sadly her two sidearms got sliced in half leaving her Bonds and Guts left. "Well shit," she cursed to get slapped across the floor.
"Die bitch," Robinson is determined to slice Rebecca into many pieces.
Elsewhere Cortez is getting close to the power room to see a large room where Power Armor and Dragoons were getting torn to shreds by the turrets, robots, and Armored Creepers.
An Armored Creeper uses its powerful body to pounce onto a Dragoon unit to spit a ton of acid to melt the torso and the head killing the Dragoon.
"Better not fuck with that thing, Cortez grabs an MGL which is a revolver grenade launcher holding 6 grenades which are Freeze rounds. "Liquid Nitrogen, perfect," Cortez fires onto a Dragoon to freeze the cyborg solid.
He fires his mini rocket from his PLS to scatter it to pieces. He fires five rounds into the Armored Creepers to freeze them and blow them to pieces. He goes through a door to be within the power room as he injects Lucy's virus to begin overloading the generator.
"Warning, power is unstable. Please fix the issue the generator goes critical," the computer said.
"Perfect, Rebecca, The generator is overloading, time to leave," Cortez said as she told him early about her getting the last keycard.
"Alright, I need to take care of this freak," Rebecca activates her Berserk State to tank all her hits to not take damage from her slashes. She grabs onto the sword arm to snap it off her body to blast her with Guts to put a hole in her weakened body.
"Fuck, this Black Lace is taking a toll on me," Robinson said as she is suffering from withdrawal making her more sluggish and mentally unstable.
"Warning power generator is unstable," the computer said on the loudspeaker.
"What?" Robinson got tricked they managed to overload the generator to blow this base sky high. While she was distracted, Rebecca dashed forward to go into a slide to put Guts to her chest firing at point-blank range to split her in half.
"I don't have time for you," Rebecca said.
"Killing me will make you a bigger target for the FIA and a bigger enemy to your nation. You better watch your back," Robinson said as Rebecca shrugs at this.
"Oh well, like this damned country did anything for me. My loyalty is to my new family, not the NUSA," Rebecca turns around to fire a slug to blow her head into bloody pieces killing the FIA agent. "I am coming back to the exit," she said as the duo were rushing through the battle-soaked base with the generator getting closer to blowing up.
The duo managed to get out of the exit to reach the truck to drive back to the base camp. Then they see the mountain get rocked by a massive explosion killing every Militech and Creeper inside. "Booyah, that is what I am talking about," Cortez gives Rebecca a high five.
"We did it. We can finally get out of here," Rebecca said to be excited to go to Nexus.
"Never doubt Panam's plans," Klunk said.
"Indeed, come on. Time to prepare to get out of here," Cortez driving back noticed her yellow jacket was gone. "Hey, what happened to your jacket?" Cortez asked to see her only in her underwear and sneakers.
"Jacket got burned up. Sadly, it's gone, I need to make a new one. Also, my sidearms are gone too, got destroyed in the fight with Robinson," Rebecca said.
"We can pick you a new sidearm because you got a good automatic weapon, no need for a Lexington," Cortez said as Rebecca nodded her head.
"Right, I would rename this gun Blood Bonds," Rebecca said.
"Sounds Preem," Cortez said as they went back to have all 8 keycards let them escape the Seaside Ravine to head for Nexus.
Within a day, Aldecaldos began to set off to get out of the region to leave it behind to slip through the gate which was now opened. Stella is in the trailer along with Rebecca, Cortez, and Klunk.
"Well, time to get going to Haze," Stella said.
"Yeah, we will split off from the others and head for the shores. We will meet up back in Nexus," Klunk said as Cortez's truck and trailer headed off away from the nomad convoy to go on a mission to Haze with just Stella, Rebecca, Cortez, and Klunk to gather the horrible secrets of Biotechnia to the FSA.
