When he got home everyone congratulated him and said it was a great start.

"Thanks guys." he said.

It was late and he was tired so he went to bed.

When he woke he stretched, took a shower and headed to the usual place.

"Hey guys, what are you up to?" he said on his way there.

"Hi Lightning." said Sheriff.

"We're just on our way ta Flo's." said Mater.

"Me too." he said.

When they got there they heard Sarge and Fillmore fighting a bit. Lightning and Mater looked at each other and laughed.

"Are they ever gonna stop fighting?" asked Flo.

"I doubt it Flo, they've been fighting for years." said Ramone.

While Lightning and Mater had breakfast they told each other they were doing good. Mater was good just not very busy. Lightning said he was good and glad he hasn't been in an accident once this season so far.

"Let's hope it can stay that way." he said.

"Yea, that would be helpful."

Throughout the season Smokey would see more and more of Hudson everyday.

A few weeks had gone by and Lightning was looking at Doc's ankle and he helped him figure out if he was healed.

"It looks good to me then."

Doc looked to check himself and said he was right. So he took off his brace.

"Good job rookie." he said.

"Thanks dad."

"Now let's go get some training done." he said smiling.

"Sounds good to me!" Lightning said.

So he grabbed his keys and headed to his training place. When they got there he had him do everything the way he usually does then played around with the way he wanted him to do it. While he was training everyone was wondering where they were.

"Do ya think he's back to normal and is trainin' Lightning?" asked Mater.

Everyone thought for a second, "I think you're right, it's three ten and he still hasn't come to get you Smokey." said Sally.

Twenty minutes later everyone smiled and saw them get back. Doc was off his crutches and back to normal.

"Looks like you're back and ready for races huh?" asked Smokey.

"Yea, thanks to Lightning. I forgot what it's like to be the one that's hurt!" he said laughing.

A few months later it was the Piston Cup. As usual it was going to be Chick and Lightning everyone from Radiator Springs knew that already.

Smokey was staying to watch the races with them.

"Alright, you've made it through this one so far without hurting yourself once, you can make it through this one." said Doc.

"I hope so. He keeps getting closer and closer to hitting me." Lightning said.

When it started he was in third place.

As the race went on he sped up by the middle he was in first place and Chick was close. He bumped into him but he got himself back. He was a bit nervous now and Doc could tell.

"Calm down you're doing just fine." said Doc.

He was down to three laps and he was tying with Chick. Then it was the last lap and it was close as usual when it was over Lightning won just barely. Everyone at home were amazed and glad he won.

There are days in season they don't work, when he's in a race.

After he made his speech he went to his room and relaxed.

"Nice job Rookie. One whole season and no accidents. Not even in training!" said Doc.

"Thanks dad." he said smiling.

"No problem. Now why don't you get some sleep?"

He nodded and fell right to bed.

The next day they were on their way home. When they got there everyone was proud of him and glad nothing happened this time. It was the second Piston Cup he's won in only three seasons.

Doc smiled happy and looking forward to the future.
