Author's Note: Yeah. I'm giggling like a demented duck over my very punny title. I don't even know where this came from. I just saw "at least one child under 10" and it appeared.

Harini examined the painting in front of her with more scrutiny than probably necessary. It was only aimless swirls of blush pink paint on a white canvas, after all. No matter how much Hermione lectured, Harini just couldn't understand some of these modern art pieces. Oh, sure, some of them were rather pretty or had interesting messages when the whole context was explained. But then there were pieces like the one before her now. Even the title was only interesting in the implication that there were twenty-two other paintings similar enough to be in the same series.

No amount of free wine and questionable hors d'oeuvres could possibly be worth the feeling of every brain cell she had melting out her ears. How did she let Hermione talk her into this again?

All of a sudden, there was a tugging at the drape of her sari. She turned her attention to that side of herself. Then she dropped her gaze to the level of her hips. The little girl standing there could not be older than six. She had skin darker than the rich loam that Neville preferred for his greenhouses. While her equally dark hair had been pulled tight into the two ponytails on either side of her head, they had been left to their natural fro beyond that. Her tidy cocktail dress was a royal purple that matched her impossible eyes.

"Yes?" Harini questioned gently when it seemed like the little girl would continue to just stare. In her mind, she couldn't help but wonder who would bring a child as young as this girl to a formal event at an art museum. Harini was an adult and already bored out of her mind after only a hour. She couldn't imagine what the girl must be feeling.

"I think my sister needs saved," the girl said in that serious way that only small children could manage. Teddy often used the same tone for telling her about when Padfoot had gotten into the chocolate-covered blackberry jammy dodgers without permission. As cute as the indications that Teddy was going to follow his mother into Hufflepuff opposed to either of his fathers into Gryffindor, Harini thought that this might be a far more serious circumstance.

At Harini's nod, the girl began pulling Harini away from the main gallery hosting the event. Without missing a beat, Harini deposited her mostly-full glass of rosé onto the drink table as they passed it. The hall outside the gallery was only dimly lit, most likely to discourage wandering. It was still lit enough for Harini to make out the couple arguing off to one side.

One was clearly the little girl's sister. The woman had the same dark brown skin, though her hair had been cut short and colored a bright violet. The hair color matched the embroidered hollyhocks decorating the hem and collar of her periwinkle dress. Forget the gallery of confusing paintings. This was Nature's own artwork. She was as breathtaking as she was vaguely familiar.

The man she was arguing with was, unfortunately, more than vaguely familiar. Cormac MacLaggen had been a thorn in Harini's side the entire time he had attended Hogwarts with her. Not even her cousin Draco had been as annoying. That was probably because Draco was annoying because he was a dramatic brat constantly trying to either outdo her or drag her into his chaotic schemes. MacLaggen was the very worst type of asshat. He always acted as if he was superior to everyone else, especially anyone even remotely feminine. (Not that Harini was actually a woman any more than Sirius was a man. It never seemed to matter to the likes of MacLaggen at least.)

He had made weekly attempts to secure dates with Harini since the start of her third year. She was sure that his harassment would have included formal offers of courtship to Sirius if that wouldn't have forced him to stop after being rejected. Either way, it was well known among their generation that the MacLaggens were in need of an infusion of cash for the family coffers, and the family only had Cormac to pin their hopes on for that. Harini wasn't willing to settle for less than what her parents had had. Her Black heart demanded devotion as much as her Potter blood craved consistency.

Cormac was far to fickle to expect fidelity from.

Or anything else that was decent, apparently.

"Remove your hand from my person," the woman demanded. Her eyes flashed violet fire as she continued. "Or I will remove it from yours."

"Don't be like that, baby," MacLaggen cooed as if he wasn't courting his own death. "I've seen the way you've been looking at me since I arrived. It's why I followed you out here. There's no reason to play the coquette now that we're alone."

"Still as deaf as always, I see," Harini interrupted smoothly. "All attempts to educate you seem doomed to failure, MacLaggen."

She glided forward in the way that Narcissa had specifically taught her during their private lessons. Andromeda had always fumbled the more delicate aspects of what pure-blood society expected of its women, too strong in frame and features to convincingly pull off the charade of submission. But Narcissa understood how to be the stiletto opposed to the sword. It was that sharp edge that Harini channeled as she moved closer to the two, carefully keeping the girl behind her.

"Am I dreaming?" MacLaggen asked. He licked his lips. "I wasn't expecting to be the filling of a rye sandwich when I came out tonight." He grinned as he looked between the two women and wagged his eyebrows suggestively. "You'll have to take turns, ladies, but there's enough of me to go around."

"Really?" Harini asked, managing to sound at least mildly surprised. She was almost close enough to touch. "That's not what Ginny said. I believe ken-doll was the term she used."

"That's not—" MacLaggen started. Harini reached out and stuck the plain silver button to his lapel. She met his gaze as a Cheshire grin spread across her face.

"Slimy," she intoned before he could do more than blink at her. With a soft sigh of displaced air, the portkey whisked the cretin to the intake cell for the Auror Department. Depending on how crazy the calls were, someone may find him within a hour or so. The moment he was gone (taking any potential danger with him), the little girl sprung out from Harini's shadow to hug her sister.

"Did you see that, Blaise?" she exclaimed excitedly. "She just banished him like Mamma does spiders!"

"Elenora," Blaise scolded, "you were supposed to stay with Mamma."

"I had to find a hero!" Elenora pulled back from the hug finally. If she had a tail, it would probably have been wagging. "And now you can marry her and live happily ever after!"

"Elenora," Blaise whispered, sounding more than a little choked up. Harini decided that she might as well see if the Potter Luck would hold true as legend said it would for true love.

"We should probably start with a first date," Harini interjected. Blaise startled, her purple gaze shooting up to meet Harini's emerald one. Harini licked her lips nervously. "I could use a companion for the exhibit."

"I wouldn't be able to explain any of the art," Blaise said with a careful tone. Harini felt her grin just grow even wider.

"Think you would be able to mock them with me instead?"

Blaise barked out a laugh that had Harini's heart swelling with warm affection.

"It's a date," she agreed. Elenora let out a loud whoop of triumphant before she grabbed both of their hands to pull them back towards the gallery.

Even with the small child acting as chaperone, it was probably the best first date that Harini had ever been on.
