Amanda and Josh sat at the dinner table, practicing sulking.
"You can't! Do you remember the last time? You just can't!" Josh yelled. He slammed his head onto the dinner table and let it sit there. "No, we know the man selling this house, don't worry." Their dad reassured them. Josh groaned and Amanda kept her mouth shut.
It had been almost a year since dead house, and Amanda had grown even taller than her mother. Josh on the other hand wasn't so lucky, and was deemed as short by then. Amanda grew her brown hair out and Josh still had the same mullet. The only difference was that Josh's hair was slightly darker due to it being more towards the winter.
The day they left dead house was also the day they found out about the zombies and that their dog was dead too. Petey was an amazing dog. That is until he turned out to be dead. They had let him into the car and as they drove off, his stench made them want to gag. It wasn't long until they realized what exactly happened. Josh had tried to climb up to the front and their parents had to park the car and cautiously let the dog out. He was now part of dead house.
Their parents were lucky that their old house hadn't sold. When they got back after the 9 hour drive, the for sale sign was still in the grass by the driveway. Amanda and Josh took the sign away first thing and their parents worked the details out and took the house off sale.
And now they are moving again!
"I'm going to my room." Josh commented before leaving the table. Ever since dead house, Josh has been the same bratty self. The only thing that is different about him is he stopped playing baseball for some reason. Now he plays soccer.
Amanda on the other hand tends to voice her concerns more often. Since she was right about the whole zombie town thing, her family tend to listen to her when she has concerns. It works well with the fact that she's getting older as well. Her and Josh have a 1 year age gap, and while Amanda is closing in on 15, Josh is close to being 14 himself. It's funny as well how people have mistaken Amanda for being an adult, while others thought Josh was at least 11 or 12.
"Amanda, can you please put Josh's dishes away and yours?" Her mom stood up and was now moving to the kitchen. Amanda nodded, grabbing both her and Josh's plates before heading to the kitchen as well. Their dad began to wipe down the table as her mom and her washed the dishes and wiped them with a towel.
"Why are we moving again?" Amanda asked her mother. Her mom turned to Amanda and smiled slightly. "Your father has a job opportunity. You know how he is. He's been working off that computer for some time now! Now he's got a ticket to even greater success!" Her mom scrubbed the plates and cups.
"But it's not fair! You know how terrible it was in the last house!" Amanda was starting to sound like Josh with that. Just as she had said that, Josh walked into the kitchen.
"Amanda's right. Why would we even wanna live there? You think Dark Falls was bad? Let's try Shock Street." Josh tried to mimic his dad and then gave his family a sour face.
"It'll be good. There's lots of kids in the neighborhood and they are very much alive!" Mrs. Benson tried to reason with them, but there was really nothing good about this at all.
"Why'd they even name it that anyways" Josh mumbled, "isn't that like the street of those stupid slasher films?" Josh grabbed the cups from the table and brought them to the sink. He then pushed Amanda slightly to get to the sink in order to wash the dishes.
"Wow Josh. So mature." Amanda said in a mocking manner. She then turned around after having done her portion.
"Are you packed?" Mrs. Benson asked, not turning away. Amanda heard Josh growl. Yes, she had packed. She also had forced Josh to pack as well. The house itself was almost empty. They decided they were gonna leave some dishes. Their family didn't want to completely sell the house until they knew the town was zombie free.
"This is gonna suck so hard!" Josh hissed. He passed right by Amanda, going into their room. One good thing about their new house is that she and Josh would never have to share a room again. The bad news was that it was an older house, not as old as dead house, But old. Their parents met the neighbors and other street folk when seeing the house, and it wasn't as sketchy as Dark Falls in the slightest. It was still something that they were dreading. When will their parents learn?!
"Josh, we'll probably meet some great people!" Amanda gave a smile. It definitely wasn't a happy one or a real one but it was a smile nonetheless.
"Yeah, great." Josh said back, rolling his eyes. We both knew it could go either way, and we weren't excited.
At all.
