The Legend of Zelda: Unbound Paradox
-Chapter 1-
Our story begins many years ago in a land known as Hyrule, a relatively peaceful kingdom that enjoyed much prosperity over the years….
Darkness loomed over the horizons though as the wrath of an ancient evil made flesh would soon bring despair upon all the land. This incarnation of death went by many names but in this lifetime he was known as Ganondorf Dragmire, King of the Gerudo and master of dark magics.
In the past a hero would rise up, a courageous champion hand chosen by the goddess Hylia reborn throughout the generations to face the coming evils and protect the innocent. However, when he was needed most… the hero failed to appear… leaving Hyrule without its much-needed defender.
With his absence all of Hyrule would have been doomed to eternal darkness so Hylia sought out a new defender with the help of Din, Nayru, and Farore, the Three Golden Goddesses who created Hyrule itself. Despite much searching though, they were not able to find a suitable candidate amongst the many people of the kingdom.
So they looked beyond Hyrule…
Thus they found Naruto Uzumaki, a young boy from a far away land with a kind heart and courageous soul, living in a home that despised him. At least he was until the goddesses Din and Farore spirited him away to Hyrule, leaving him in the care of the Great Deku Tree within the Lost Woods until the time came for his new destiny to unfold.
During this time Naruto befriended one of the children of the forest, Saria of the Kokiri, soon becoming all but inseparable from each other. So strong did their bond grow that when the day inevitably came for Naruto to leave the forest to fulfill his destiny, Saria chose to risk it all by joining him alongside her guardian fairy Elia and the guiding fairy Navi.
Together these four journeyed across the kingdom, facing down many of Ganondorf's twisted minions in order to prevent the evil King from reaching a place known as the Sacred Realm, which housed a gift known as the Triforce. This powerful mystical relic could grant the wishes of anyone who could get their hands on it, and the desert king only had one goal in mind, Total Conquest.
Sadly, he was just as smart as he was heartless and he instead twisted their very efforts to his favor, tricking them into opening the pathway for him.
With the power of the Triforce, the King of the Desert was ascended to his birthright as a Demon King, whilst Naruto and Saria found themselves locked away within the Sacred Realm, sealed for seven years. Upon awakening, they found a world left in near ruin and ruled by despair…
However, a faint hope of salvation remained, but to reach it they needed to first awaken six sages, to help them in their fight. So their journey continued, traversing across land both familiar yet foreign, making new friends like Fi, the spirit of the Master Sword, along the way.
And soon one by one the Sages were found, Light, Forest, Fire, Water, and Shadow, until all that remained was the Sage of Spirit far within the Gerudo Desert.
With victory so close, the heroes were confident that victory would be on the side of light once more…
Or would it?

"…aaaaaAAAHHH!?"
"Wha-Gck?!"
"Naruto!?"
"SariaAAAAH!?"

"What's going-" "On? I can't-" "Think. Everything-" "Hurts."
Pain… pain beyond anything imaginable… searing through everything…
"I can't-" "see. Where-" "Am I?"
The world blurred in and out of focus, colors and darkness awash in a chaotic mixture that left it almost impossible to distinguish anything from anything else.
"Have to-" "Get moving." "Need to-" "Find-" ""SLairnika.""
A light faintly glowed in the distance, giving off a gentle comforting thrum as the pain eased a little.
"What is-" "That?"
A slender hand came into focus, weakly reaching towards the light before grabbing onto… something and pulling, dragging the light closer? Another hand, rougher and clad in leather, stretched out towards the light as well, fingers grasping for the soothing glow desperately.
"It makes-" "The pain-" "Go away." "Get it." "GET IT!"
Both hands strived for the light, it was so close yet so far, laying just beyond their reach. They struggled, clawed, and pulled, gradually bringing it closer centimeter by agonizing centimeter at a time.
"Almost there, just-" "a little-" "Bit… wait-" "Almost have-" "Something is wrong." "Doesn't make-" "Must get-" "Sense."
Just as the light was within grasp though both hands stopped, retracting a little as a hint of hesitance reached through the constant pain.
"What am I-" "Doing? Why-" "Am I-" "No, need to-" "Focus." "Something isn't right." "Must-" ""WGaoit!""
The leather hand shot out and clasped the light, gripping it tightly as the warming glow washed over it-

"GAH!?" Naruto shot upright with a gasp; grabbing his heaving chest as he struggled to catch his breath. His heart pounded in his ears like a drum and his entire body trembled violently, causing him to flop onto his side when he tried to get up.
Wheezing, the blonde slowly sat up again… only to quickly cup a hand over his mouth when his cheeks bulged out with a green tinge.
'Don't puke, Do. Not. Puke.' With no small amount of effort Naruto barely managed to swallow the bile threatening to spew forth from his lips. Grimacing, he spat several times to get the taste that clung to his tongue out of his mouth before shaking his head and getting a look at his surroundings.
…
"What the fuck?" He almost wished he hadn't…
The sight Naruto found himself greeted by was one beyond anything he had ever seen or imagined in his life. There was no true land nor sky, just a massive emptiness of ever shifting colors that stretched in all directions.
Various random debris and chunks of land lazily floated through the empty space, some smooshing together to form little makeshift islands and others crumbling apart. A quick glance down showed that even the 'ground' Naruto sat on was nothing more than a slab of bricks floating along. And to top it all off, there were strange black spots floating about as well, literal voids of pure darkness of which nothing could be seen.
Some were small enough to fit in the palm of his hand and others larger than houses, they weren't moving themselves, but it seemed that things were drawn towards the things for some reason. Many debris drifted closer to the strange voids, forming into rings or balls of junk that slowly orbited around them.
"Where the hell am I?" Naruto wondered aloud as he took all of this in, slowly leaning further and further back as he tried to see anything distinguishing or familiar. Not that it did much good as he couldn't even tell if he was actually looking up, especially not when the whole place was spiraling around him. 'Or am I the one spinning? Fuck, this place makes no sense, where's Saria when you-' "SARIA!?"
Eyes widening, the whiskered blonde's head swiveled around rapidly as it finally hit him that the love of his life, or anyone else for the matter, was nowhere to be seen.
"Saria? Can you hear me? Saria?!" He called out worriedly, pushing past the last bits of lingering nauseousness as he scrambled to his feet. His gaze flickered all over the void, desperately looking over every little bit of land he could spot in search of any signs of that familiar green hair.
However, the only response he got was the echo of his own voice, eerily bouncing back and forth through the void.
"Come on, where are you? Saria!? Saria?!" Panic dug its claws deep into the teen's heart the longer the silence dragged on for. "Fi? Navi? Elia? Is anyone out there? …Hello?"
…
"HELLO!?"
"Uuugh… please stop shouting…" Naruto jumped as a familiar voice reached his ears, causing his head to snap to the side just in time to see a green fairy groggily peeking out from his collar.
"Elia! Oh thank god!" Sighing in relief, the blonde scooped the tiny lady up in his palm and brought her up to eye level. "Are you okay? Do you know where everyone is? What the hell happened? And better yet-"
Naruto was cut off when Elia slapped his cheek with a surprising amount of force for her tiny size. "I said stop shouting you dunderhead, I've already got a big enough headache as it is."
Blinking a few times in surprise, the whiskered teen's excited swiftly puttered out as he took a moment to get a good look at the fairy on his palm. And to say she was roughed up was an understatement, her hair was frazzled, her wings crinkled up (But thankfully not broken), and even her natural glow was dimmed out to near nonexistence.
"By the goddesses… I haven't felt this shitty since that time you accidentally added a magic mushroom to dinner," The little greenette groaned while clutching her head with one hand and Naruto's thumb with the other as she slowly pulled herself up to her feet. Wobbling a bit at first, she eventually managed to find her balance and pulled her hand back enough to look back at the blonde, before doing a double take. "Wait, why are you still big? Aren't we supposed to be in the past?"
"Uh… yeah, about that…" Naruto slowly turned his hand so that Elia was facing towards the colorful emptiness instead. And as soon as her gaze laid upon it, the guardian fairy's eyes went wide while her arms dropped limply to her side.
"…Naruto."
"Yeah?"
"Where the hell are we?"
"Was kind of hoping you could tell me," The blonde stated as his shoulders slumped, before shaking his head and sighing as he lifted Elia up to the top of his scalp. Once she clambered into his hair and got herself nicely tucked in, he turned his focus back to the void itself with a determined glare. "We can worry about figuring that out later, right now we need to find the others and make sure their okay."
"I'd say it's a bad idea to wander around with no idea where or what this place is, but I don't think we really have any better options. Besides, my head already hurts enough without trying to argue with you," The fairy grumbled as she peered down from her perch, before wincing and clapping a hand over her eyes as she shied back. "But maybe deal with that weird lightshow coming from your hand first."
"Lightshow?" Not knowing what Elia was talking about, Naruto's gaze instinctively dropped to his hands… only to freeze when he saw a vibrant golden glow emanating from something clutched in his left. The teen's confusion only grew upon uncurling his fingers to discover that something to be some sort of strange gem.
Being a translucent golden orange, it was roughly the size of a chestnut and shaped like a teardrop. And now that Naruto was paying attention he could feel a soft thrumming, almost like a heartbeat, coming from the gem as it pulsed in his palm.
"Where did-whoa!" He started to ask, only to cut himself off with a flinch when the strange gemstone suddenly jumped from his grasp, shooting up to eye level with him.
Floating for a few moments, it pulsed much more powerfully, causing the air to tremble while it's glow was dispersed. Engravings etched onto the stone by themselves, forming a rune that neither of them recognized.
Then, before either of them could even think of how to react, the gem moved again, this time zipping down right to the middle of Naruto's collarbone. Once it got close a black cord with two metal beads formed from it that loosely wrapped itself around the whiskered teen's neck. At the same time, all the fatigue, nausea, and soreness that had been wracking through him just vanished, leaving him feeling refreshed and ready to go.
"Okay… so that was a thing," He muttered unsurely as he stared at his new accessory curiously, mentally debating whether or not he should take it off when the gem started to glow again. Instead of pulsing this time though, a ball of light shot out from it that soared through the void like a shooting star, leaving a faint glittering trail in its path. "And so was that. You think we should follow it?"
"Follow after a mysterious light that came from an unknown magic necklace that just attached itself to you by its own volition?" Elia asked back sarcastically, before pinching her nose when Naruto just scratched the back of his head with a shrug. "Screw it, it's probably a trap but it's better than just wandering around blindly hoping for the best. Although that begs the question, how exactly are we going to follow it when we've got nowhere to walk?"
"Well, I've got an idea but you're probably not going to like it." As he spoke Naruto held out his hand, causing a golden chain to slowly extend from the blonde's wrist.
"Oh goddesses…" Knowing exactly what he was planning, the fairy buried herself back in her ride's hair, even tying herself in place with the golden strands and bracing herself.
Meanwhile, Naruto looked around once more before setting his sights on a large chunk of earth that was half covered in grass and some bushes floating near the shimmering path. Taking a moment to mentally gauge the distance, the teen slowly pulled his arm back as the chain coiled up around it then jabbing forward, launching the golden links across the void.
The chain soared across the empty space and struck the pile of dirt with a distant *thump*, sinking several inches into the soil on impact.
Giving a few strong tugs to make sure it was well and firmly grounded, Naruto nodded with a smirk when he didn't feel any give before gripping the binding with both hands. "You ready Elia?"
"As I'll ever be, just please be careful."
"Relax, I'll take this nice and eeeeEEEASY!?" The blonde started to say as he willed the chain to start retracting while jumping off their stone platform… and then promptly screaming in terror when he flew towards the floating island a LOT faster than he was expecting.
He didn't even have time to blink before he slammed into the mound of dirt and smashed it to pieces, sending him tumbling wildly into the void.
"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Naruto swore as he spiraled out of control through the empty space, frantically waving his arms and legs around to try and stop himself. However, nothing he tried did anything other than make him look like an idiot. "What is going on?! I can't stop!"
"I-Look out!"
"Wha-" Naruto had no time to react to Elia's warning as his face was abruptly and quite intimately introduced to a bunch of red wooden planks. Then as if a switch was flipped the blonde's body stopped floating, flopping down onto whatever he hit like a sack of potatoes.
On the plus side, he stopped moving at least.
With a grunt the whiskered teen peeled his face free, spitting out several splinters while he cautiously got back on his feet.
"Ugh, well that went well…" He said sarcastically, pulling another splinter out of his cheek as he idly checked out the thing he crashed into. Turned out it was a boat, or at least the back half of one with the front half looking like it had been ripped off, just big enough for one person.
Of course, the more intriguing part for the blonde was how he was standing on the side of it as it slowly spun around yet he felt no motion at all. "This place just gets weirder and weirder. You alright Elia?"
"Somehow, no thanks to you," Said fairy stated while smacking Naruto's scalp. "So much for taking it easy."
"I thought I was taking it easy, how was I supposed to know that I'd suddenly get all weightless like that?" The whiskered teen retorted, earning himself another bop.
"Maybe the fact that everything around here is just floating around weightlessly," She said as she poked her head out of his hair to gesture to all the stuff that was floating around them. "This place obviously doesn't follow the same rules that we're used to. You're going to need to be a lot more careful until we figure out how everything works."
"Alright, alright, I got it," Naruto said with a nod before summoning forth another chain as he spotted a different 'island' to grapple it to. "Well now that we know about the floating thing, let's try this again."
"Let's not and say we didn't…"
