Two days later Addie was pulling into O'Shannessy Aviation, her mother's business, southwest of Abilene Texas. Before passing away Addie's grandfather bought the county airport which happened to be next door to his airfield. The county airport had been closed for eight years before her papa purchased it, now it was a thriving business and O'Shannessy Aviation was constantly busy. Stopping the jeep she got out and walked up to the main office, which was attached to the largest hanger. Once she walked in she was greeted by Linda and Bill Fulton. Linda had been hired by her grandfather to help run things after he and her grandmother had divorced. Linda's husband, Bill, worked as a mechanic and pilot for O'Shannessy Aviation since the business had started. Even though is health kept him from having a certification he was still in charge of maintenance for everything on the airfield. Linda said "Addie, It's good to see you. Your mother should be back in about fifteen minutes, she just finished following a suspect in a high speed chase. The Sheriff called and asked her to take a bird up and follow the suspect so they could back off and get him to slow down. She just watched them surround him." Addie asked "Sheriff Parker still in office?" Linda laughed and said "Oh no, he retired last year. The new sheriff is George McLeod, he let the contract between his office and us expire because he didn't see a need for our assistance. A few weeks after it expired they were searching for a missing hiker, and your mother guided them to him. Sheriff McLeod immediately renegotiated the contract and even had it expanded to include a provision for the county emergency manager to request our services on the sheriff's dime." Addie laughed and said "Sounds like mom's negotiating strategy. How is papa's Mustang?" Bill told her "I finally found a number of original parts, not reproductions. Your mother saw the website when I found them and ordered everyone of them. So now I am making my people replace over sixty perfectly good parts because your papa would have preferred to have them on it rather than the reproductions. I did have them scanned so we can have them reproduced if we need to. I hope to have it ready for the airshow next week. If it's not ready we're gonna fly the Britstang at the show." Addie asked "Exactly where did you find a British Mustang?" Linda said "He didn't, your mother bought it at an airshow." Addie then told them "Mom made it sound like it was Uncle Bill's idea." Bill said "It was my idea, I said we should find another Mustang for stunt work. A week later your mother showed up in it and said we needed to go back to the airshow to get her car."

The shop talk continued a few more minutes before they heard a helicopter coming in to land. Addie and the Fultons went outside and watched her land. As Caitlin approached Addie she told her "I like the jeep, you should sell it to me because I need to wrap it in a flag motif like Dom had his painted." Addie said "It would look good, I remember seeing pictures of you and dad with one of them." Caitlin said "If you leave it unattended here too long I'll take care of it. Addie tossed the keys to her mother and said "Make it happen, I'll sign the title over later." Caitlin asked "What will you do for transportation?" I'll borrow or rent something in the meantime." Caitlin said "If your sure." Addie said "I am, besides I was recently given a Dauphin." Bill said "Wow, someone was really trying to impress you." Addie told him "Not really, I plan to kill him." Linda said "Addie, you shouldn't talk like that." Addie informed her "Its the truth, I plan to kill him and his mother. Failing that I'm gonna make sure that he doesn't walk ever again." Bill asked "I guess the helicopter was an attempt at appeasement." Addie said "No, just a key part of a very calculated plan to piss me off. Speaking of which, Mom I need to talk to you about all of that.

Once they were in her mothers house Addie said "Angelica Ashton, her maiden name was Horn, claims her son is my half brother." Caitlin said "Before your father and I got serious he was captured and brainwashed by a man named John Bradford Horn in an attempt to get control of Airwolf. Angelica was his daughter, and from what we understand she wanted your father for herself. It is possible that her son is your half brother though artificial insemination or natural means. The second time we had to deal with Horn she was suspiciously absent, so it does fit." Addie considered it and said "He isn't much older than Allen, and is named John Allen Horn. He gave me a blood sample, I'm waiting on the results of a DNA test, Gabriel said he would have it rushed." Caitlin said "What did they do to make you want to kill them?" Addie told her "I was working with one of Bolton's agents, Horn intentionally shot him in the back and gave me the Dauphin so I could get the agent to medical treatment. He knew I would save my partners life over killing him. Spartacus won't walk again unless there is a medical breakthrough. Next time I see him or his mother they are dead, and I don't care that they built their own Airwolf." Caitlin asked "They built their own Airwolf?" Addie said "Yeah, I didn't get a close look but it looks to be nearly identical to Allen's mechanically. Electronically it has different systems if they were telling the truth. I can't prove that they were one way or another." Caitlin said "Honey, you need to be very careful. The Horns are pure evil and they are smart. Every time we went against them we barely won and they got away." Addie said "Yeah, this time they won and let me go then they got away. Next time I'll win, and they get to go to jail or in the ground."

Five days later Addie got a call from Gabriel "We got the preliminary results back on the DNA test, you and donor of the sample are at least fourth order relatives with a high probability of a closer match." Addie commented "I'm afraid that probability is extremely high. He believed it when he told me he was my half brother, and with this I am will to operate on the assumption that the man I plan to kill is my half brother." Gabriel asked her "Addie, you don't really plan to kill him do you?" Addie replied "I think he is too dangerous to stand trial, if he can afford to build an Airwolf clone then he can afford to buy a not-guilty verdict." Gabriel told her "You know our legal system is run by a judge, not an auctioneer." Addie said "I'm a licensed attorney in eleven states, trust me if you have enough money anything can be bought, even if it's not for sale." Gabriel said "What do you have in mind?" Addie said "Next time we meet, when he pulls a weapon on me I am going to shove it up his ass. After that I am gonna kill him. Then I am going after his mother." Gabriel told her "I read the report, but you really need to call down." Addie told him "He's got until he provokes me again for that to happen." Gabriel said "Well, we are making progress from you planning to kill him when you see him to you planning to kill him when he provokes you." Addie told him "Same thing, different words."

Airwolf was soon performing a search pattern while using it's assigned NYPD callsign with Sam speaking when they needed to use the radio. The initial search areas was around the locations identified as potential targets for conventional weapons. When those areas turned up clear Airwolf began scanning areas identified by NTPD as high priority targets. They were nearly finished with the high priority target list when the sensors picked up an anomalous reading for nuclear material. Airwolf quickly centered on a museum in Manhattan, identified by Sam as the American Museum of Natural History. A quick search of the museum by NYPDs bomb squad located an artifact in one of the exhibits that had nearly six pounds of radio active material in it. The artifact was secured and the search turned up nothing else. David asked Allen and Sam to circle back towards the Brooklyn bridge because he had a hunch when Allen spotted two rental trucks parked beside each other in the search area that had just been cleared. Just as Allen pointed it out Le said "Sensor system reports a positive reading for explosives." As they got closer he said "Correction, it must have been a false positive." Allen said "Unless it detect the components at a distance and as we got closer the resolution of the sensor improved so that it separated the readings." David then Asked "What do we do?" Le said "Allen lands long enough for me and Sam to get out and approach the rental trucks, if anything goes wrong we have Airwolf to provide cover fire." Sam said "I like that plan, Allen what do you think?" Allen said "I don't like being here while you are out there, but its the best plan we got." Airwolf landed and let Sam and Le out before getting back in the Air. After a brief firefight, the trucks were secured and it was confirmed that the bomb was going to be assembled inside the NYPD security perimeter and then used. David alerted the various agencies involved in the operation and five more pairs of trucks were located. Rather than attack one police plaza as their intelligence had indicated, one truck was intended to be used in an attack on a police precinct, a second against NYPD air operations heliport, and a third was to be used to attack units responding to the attack on the heliport.

Seventy Two hours after the attacks were stopped Allen, David, and Sam were being in a large room with about twenty other people being briefed on the operation by the NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence & Counterterrorism. "Gentlemen this briefing is classified per our agreement with your employer. A total of twelve trucks with materials to manufacture six devices was located and captured. Each time we captured a pair of trucks it triggered a gunfight, fortunately we were able to prevent the devices from being assembled and used. The devices nature is in your briefing packet. We were only able to capture five suspects, we lost eight officers and our opponents lost twelve people. There are suspects still at large, although we believe they have already fled the country. Our cooperative agreement with your employer prevented a major tragedy, we determined that three attacks were planned to be diversionary attacks to divert personnel and resources from the primary objective. The primary objective appears to have been aimed at crippling operations relating to the certain warehouses that we now know belong to shell companies. Those warehouses more than likely would have been used to smuggle in weapons and materials for future attacks. The most interesting aspect that I can share with you in this briefing is that a number of terrorist organizations worked together to pull this off. Not only were foreign actors involved, but so were domestic actors with left wing and right wing agendas. Does anyone have any questions?" Someone asked "Was there a time frame that these attacks were meant to be effective?" The Deputy Commissioner said "Yes, and it has passed. Because we were so heavily deployed to prevent the terrorist attack we were able to quickly mobilize and seize the assets the attack was intended to protect. Your employers will brief you on what you are cleared to know regarding these assets. But the window of opportunity they sought to take advantage of is now closed thanks to the efforts of those in this room and NYPD." Someone else asked "We heard that a private military contractor was heavily involved in the operation, is that true?" The Deputy Commissioner answered "A number of private contractors were involved with the operation, more than one has ties with the military or intelligence communities. One of, if not the most, involved private contractors that I can discuss is Intelligence Analysis Corporation. Better known as IAC, it is run by Dr. Jason Bull formerly of Trial Analysis Corporation. Other partners provided critical support such as additional aviation resources, explosive detection dogs, and communication interoperability. The Department of Defense loaned us technology that was crucial to the resolution of this crisis, and the federal intelligence community worked closely with my department." Someone wearing a New Jersey State Police dress uniform asked "Will we be able to inspect the captured devices along with any captured materials?" The Deputy Commissioner told them "We are already beginning to reach out to the various departments and agencies we think could benefit from being involved in the post action analysis of everything we captured. Some parties will have more access than others, however due to your support of our efforts in this matter we have already asked your governor to have someone from your agency be attached to our task force." A few more questions and answers were tossed around making Allen think this 'briefing' was being handled too much like a press conference. When it was finally over the Deputy Commissioner said "The NYPD appreciates the assistance we received and we hope we can continue to work together with all of you in the future to prevent a need for more collaborations like this one. Everyone is dismissed except for Lieutenant Hansen and his team."

Sam, David, and Allen followed the Deputy Commissioner into a smaller room where the Deputy Commissioner said "The Commissioner ordered me to ask you if we could get you to reconsider your resignation." Sam said "I'm sorry sir, but I am needed with their team more than I am needed here. However, I will be serving as the Company's liaison officer to the NYPD. If you wish, I am willing to retain my commission as an NYPD officer and be moved to a reserve status. This would make be available to the NYPD in an emergency." The Deputy Commissioner said "That was the second option I was to offer if you didn't reconsider leaving us. Consider it done. You realize that you now hold the record for shortest honorable tenure under my command? At least you didn't get a medical retirement or posthumous promotion to set that record." Sam told him "I will technically remain under your command as a reserve officer." The Deputy Commissioner said "True, but you are not a full time NYPD officer anymore so that doesn't count. Good luck, and you are dismissed."

Airwolf landed at the train site, where Allen and David went to inspect the wreckage while Sam stayed with Airwolf. David found several pieces of wreckage that he identified as being of Chinese and Russian in origin. Allen asked "Do you think it's Chinese with Russian parts, or Russian with Chinese parts?" David said "Maybe, but I have a suspicion it's Iranian or maybe even North Korean. Probably Iranian since they can afford to use them." Allen asked "Why them?" David said "China and Russia wouldn't give out their own stuff out to be used on our shores, if they are involved they would buy stuff from someone else and hand that out, more than likely they would buy stuff we gave to someone else and pass that out." Allen said "Your right, North Korea is my top suspect as the supplier as well. The question I have is, are they just the supplier or do they play a bigger role?" David said "Good question, but what is their next step?" Allen said "They don't just use the drones to steal a bunch of weapons to sell them, they plan to use them." David picked up a piece of debris and confirmed "I agree, and we know for a fact it's an Iranian drone." Allen looked at the object and asked "We know this how?" David said "This component is nearly identical to used for only eight months in our RQ-170 drones. It was replaced with a more advanced version and all the units we had were destroyed. The only one we didn't destroy was installed on the drone Iran recovered and rebuilt. Iran and China use their own version which has slightly better functionality than this unit, although it weighs twice as much and is three times the size. After the Russians and Chinese inspected the technology Iran recovered they improved their design. Our improved version is about half the size of this and uses a weight to keep keep the drone balanced properly. Until now we had no proof Iran was using components developed from the RQ-170 in anything other than three known platforms." As they got back in Airwolf, Allen asked "So if you are a domestic terrorist or other a revolutionary, or something else and have captured a bunch of American military gear that was supposed to go overseas where would you use it?" Sam said "I looked over the inventory of what was taken, mostly older LAW rockets, Javelins, small arms, and body armor with a light dusting of MANPADS and Stingers." Allen considered the intel and was about to speak when Sam said "I already notified the secret service, the president's convoy is still going to meet with the mayor of New York at Gracie Mansion. The mayor and president however are now meeting at an undisclosed location." Allen said "That would have been my first thought as well." David said "Now how about you get out of my seat so I can do my thing and figure out what our bad guys are really after."

Airwolf was headed back to their New York facility when David announced "I set a way point for a Maryland Hospital. Maryland State Police just pulled over a semi truck loaded with weapons. The driver of the Semi tried to flee on foot and shot at the trooper. The trooper hit him with his patrol car. The driver is alive and conscious, but has two broke legs and a few busted ribs. He is in intensive care." Allen said "We need to talk to him." David retorted "Which is why I set the way point." Sam said "What we really need is for Addie to talk to him, but she's not available." Allen said "Then he'd get off for cruel and unusual punishment, assuming he survived." David said "I don't think she would kill him." Sam said "Not intentionally, but he'd kill himself when he remembered some detail he left out and her usual threat of coming back if she found out they did just that." Sam said "Exactly. What's the game plan for when we land?"

Airwolf landed and Allen stayed with the helicopter, while Sam and David went to interrogate the prisoner. As they interrogated the prisoner Allen got a communication from command. The other two trucks had been stopped and the drivers killed. They were ordered to return to base. Allen was disappointed and relieved. When Sam and David returned Allen gave them the news about their orders and David said "I'll call them back. We have additional intel. There is a plan to attack congress. I have names, places, and times. They need to act quickly." Allen asked "You weren't in there ten minutes, how did you pull that off?" Sam said "David pulled a big ass knife, gave an evil smile that would have made Addie proud, and asked the driver if he knew about Comanche interrogation methods. He then took two steps and grabbed the guy's shoulder. The driver spilled his guts, figuratively, and pissed himself in the process." Allen asked David "Your Comanche?" David said "No, but I saw a Navajo symbol tattooed on the driver so I decided to be one for the moment." Sam commented "I was very impressed." David chimed in "Gabriel said thanks for the intel. We are cleared to go home and get Airwolf properly checked over."

As they flew home Allen said "I don't like being sent home, they had a lot of drones and if they were smart enough to stagger their attacks like they did then they are smart enough to hold some in reserve and have a backup plan. We still don't know where they launched the drones from and we already know they had at least two launch sites." Sam said "It was a complicated operation, the question is how long are they going to wait before activating their backup plan" David added "More importantly what is the target for the backup plan?" Allen said "Agreed. Another attempt at New York might be a bit much, but they might feel our guard is down after we successfully stopped their attack." David said "If it were me I would have an alternate target picked out, something that we might pull resources away from to protect New York." Sam said "If Airwolf hadn't been involved, where what would have had the least coverage against an air attack?" David pulled data up on the computer, and checked a few things then said "There was an NFL game that we would have used the birds doing the fly over to participate in the search. There is a project called Millington that would have lost three of it's five aircraft." Sam asked "Anything that would be news worthy?" David replied "No, but maybe we need to look at something other than coverage." Sam asked "Like what?" Allen said "Patrol routes, missions canceled, commercial flights that were canceled or rerouted, and so on." David said "We have something coming in over the secure radio." Allen said "Lets hear it." Gabriel's voice said "Hawke, we have a problem. Someone used a stealth drone to take out a train and steal the cargo." Allen asked "What kind of cargo?" Gabriel said "Weapons. They would have been flown to a commercial airport in New York, but due to our no fly zone they were being shipped by train to the docks. I can't tell you where they were going, let's just say they were going to help enemies of people who are the enemies of democracy." Allen huffed before saying "You want us to go find them?" Gabriel said "No, I just wanted to let you know how badly we misread the play. Of course we want you to find them. We are sending the coordinates of the train attack to you, we are checking satellite resources to see if we have anything recorded." Allen said "Let us know if you find anything out." Allen didn't have time to tell David to close the connection before it was closed on Gabriel's end.

At the next Project meeting Marella opened the meeting by saying "The chairman is occupied with other matters, so he will review our notes and the recording of this meeting. He has, at my suggestion, issued a directive that we will be using one dedicated test pilot and two pilots from the Airwolf program for each build team. Gabriel will be using Alex Hawke and Sam Hansen, as they are both fully qualified test pilots and trained to fly Airwolf. Raphael will use Allen and Addie. While we can't guarantee that they won't figure out that we have two prototypes, at least Addie's inability to talk civilly to Hansen will help impede their ability to do so." Gabriel then asked "What about our dedicated pilots?" Marella said "Gabriel will have a recently retired Airforce Lieutenant Colonel named Justin Paterson. Paterson is a decorated combat pilot, and was involved in testing a number of platforms including the F-35A and F-22. Raphael will be have a research test pilot from NASA, he was a candidate for the original Direwolf program but was rejected by the lead test pilot who oversaw the theft of Direwolf." Raphael asked "Doesn't his prior rejection make him a security risk?" Gabriel chimed in "Normally yes, but considering who rejected him it may actually prove to be a qualification." Marella confirmed "Precisely our thinking after we had him carefully re-vetted. To paraphrase Allen, the man hasn't had a bowel movement in the last two years that we do not know about." Gabriel asked "You consulted Allen on this?" Marella said "The Chairman did. The chairman wants both test pilots trained on Airwolf while you build your Direwolves." Raphael asked "In that case, do we get access to Airwolf?" Marella said "No, but the director not only liked your suggestion for a kill system for the Direwolf prototypes, he ordered the implementation of all three options."

Gabriel asked "What kill system?" Raphael said "With the history that every Airwolf derivative has had of being stolen and destroyed I thought that we would be better off if we could disable or destroy the prototypes remotely. In my proposal I offered three suggestions. Option one is a software solution that forced the autopilot system to disable all controls and allow us to remotely assume control of the craft. Option two is a series of explosives placed at key points on the airframe, an independent system to allow us to detonate the explosives even if the aircraft has had it's computer systems completely disabled. Option three is that we install a similar system in one or more of the onboard weapon missiles or rockets. Each fail safe has a unique fifty three character code and twenty pairs challenge and authentication codes. Each aircraft's fail safe solution is stored on a secure storage device accessible by only the computers here at Knightsbridge or Red Star. When brought online Marella, you, and myself will be required to authorize the activation of the fail safe with the Chairman, Allen Hawke, and Mr Three Feathers as alternates. For more than one alternate to authorize the detonation the Chairman must approve it." Marella said "The chairman actually changed that, one of the three of us and Allen Hawke together can authorize one additional alternate." Gabriel considered it and said "That is a good idea, I assume there are security measures to prevent unauthorized access to the system?" Marella said "Each secure storage device contains a one time pad for the specific aircraft and systems installed in it. That combined with each of the two computers having a unique hardware decryption mechanism to access the secure storage device ensures that only the combination of the correct storage device and authorized computer system can decrypt the access codes. Even if someone managed to copy the contents of a secure storage device it would require the hardware module in the device and one of the two authorized computers to decrypt the data." Gabriel then said "Basically, if someone steals a Direwolf prototype we can recover or destroy it without sending Airwolf or the other Direwolf after it."" Raphael said "Precisely."

Gabriel then asked "Who are the other set of alternates? I also want to know where the alternate site to implement the protocol is." Marella asked "What do you mean?" Gabriel said "You have every thing in threes in this system, except for sets of people authorized to destroy Direwolf, and locations to do so." Marella told them "Caitlin Hawke, St. John Hawke, and Michael Rivers are the third set of alternates. As for the third site capable of initiating the fail safe, that would be Airwolf. Her computers will receive an upgrade to allow them to operate in place of those Red Star or Knightsbridge to activate the fail safe." Raphael asked "In that case how does Mr. Hawke feel about us using his aircraft as a tertiary backup for the fail safe system?" Marella said "According to Michael he suggested it. We originally planned to install the third system in the pentagon." Gabriel said "Interesting." Marella said "I agree. Anyone have anything else?"

Gabriel said "Yes, I assume you all saw Addie's report on what she has dubbed Fauxwolf?" Marella said "I have, and it is concerning. I saw your report on how they acquired the designs for Airwolf and the supplementary report on their acquisition of TL-3's systems." Raphael said "We were fortunate they made the mistake of capturing Miss Hawke." Marella said "Agreed, although I wish she hadn't been so thorough in destroying the facility." Gabriel said "What concerns me is her analysis of the aircraft's capabilities. She believes it may be as capable as the original." Raphael added "The worst part is we do not know what they plan to use it for." Marella added "I agree gentlemen, as does the Chairman. The capture or destruction of Direwolf along with the Horn family takes priority over everything else." Raphael asked "Is it that big of a threat?" Marella said "John Bradford Horn planned to capture and use Airwolf to assume control of a small nation somewhere. We believe his Daughter Angelica Ashton and her son have similar plans." Raphael asked "The report from Miss Hawke said that she had reason to believe the son is her half brother." Gabriel said "The preliminary results from testing the DNA sample he provided confirms he is a close relative of the Hawke siblings and St. John." Marella said "While Allen might hesitate to kill him since they are related, Addie has no such issue. I suggest that we let her handle John Horn as she sees fit." Gabriel said "That could get messy." Marella said "Leaving the Horn family in a position to rebuild after our next encounter is far less desirable. Gentlemen if there is nothing else you are dismissed."

Author's note: This should wrap up this story, now for Part 3. I liked having multiple story threads, but I don't like the way I mixed them in the chapters. The next story will have two threads, one thread to keep Allen out of the main story and the other will be the main story with Addie as the focus. I find myself focusing on Addie more than Allen and I don't like that so I'm going to give the character the spotlight and then make her a minor character for any stories she appears in after the next one. I might even give her a completely separate story of her own if I feel the need to cover her character further. The next story's goal is to wrap up a few loose ends from the show and in my stories and help write Addie into a minor role. The good news is I have a draft for over 90% of the next story and will start publishing it at a much more rapid pace as I clean it up.
