Chapter 2: π•Ώπ–π–”π–šπ–Œπ–π–™π–‹π–šπ–‘

(Harry Potter POV)

The summer sun was setting as I walked through Diagon Alley. My heart was pounding with excitement as I shopped for school supplies, though Hagrid was supposed to be escorting me to gather my school supplies but suddenly needed to run a separate errand. Though it was weird, I truly didn't mind it since it gave me much-needed breathing room to think about the way my life had changed.

He could not believe how his life had transformed after discovering the reason behind his differences. It made his once boring life so much more colorful, though the introduction was quite awkward at the beginning.

-FLASHBACK-

"You're a Wizard Harry!" boomed a giant man standing before me, the sunlight illuminating his massive frame. I was dazed and wondered if it was too late to contact the police and explain the weirdness of the situation I found myself in. "Uhmmm, what?" I asked. He looked at me with his piercing eyes, his smile fading into a frown at my response. "It's as I said, Harry. Your parents were wizards, and now that title falls upon you. You need to get ready for Hogwarts." I stared at him, questioning my entire existence, but he decided to explain things further.

-FLASHBACK END-

From there with a thoughtful explanation and much-needed proof I finally had a full grasp of the situation, that was 3 weeks ago and as it stood now I found myself alone to fend for myself and purchase the items that I needed.

Darkness consumed the last bit of light over the horizon with time passing faster than I had anticipated, I had finally managed to acquire my cauldron with an additional book on potions and Wizarding Culture.

I stopped spotting two roaming figures etched in thick black robes throughout the alleys, their sudden appearance threw me back to the conservation I had while collecting my Robes.

-FLASHBACK-

"Hello there." My eyes shifted to the door at the sudden greeting I had heard.

"Potter, isn't it?" My eyes finally landed on his form as he strolled into the robe shop, his silver eyes narrowing slightly as they landed on me.

"Pardon but I don't believe we have met." If he had heard what I said he didn't outwardly show it as he slowed his pace before standing by my side.

"Draco Malfoy, it's expected you would say something like that but I pay no mind. I make it well within my right to know all those attending Hogwarts this year." His words were steady and soft as silk brushing against my ears, it almost seemed unnatural.
His hands extended outwards for a handshake which I receive with a half-hearted gesture.

I shook his hand, noting the firm grip. "Nice to meet you, Draco. I'm Harry Potter."

His eyes scanned me, looking for anything out of place his eyes slowly examining my self before a smirk appeared on his lips.

"Indeed. Though it seems out of place I hope I will see yourself in Slytherin."

Though Hagrid took the time to explain the basics of what I shall expect of Hogwarts I had also noticed the slight scowl on his face when he mentioned the Slytherin. "We shall see, though it wouldn't be put off at being in Ravenclaw." I smiled noting the slight twitch in his lips at my comment.

Draco chuckled, a sound that held a hint of condescension. "Perhaps but my eyes don't deceive me, though I would like to continue our little chat I should consider the fact my mother must be waiting on my return." With a slight bow, he retreated towards the door, "Oh and Potter do be careful Cultists have been seen roaming these parts for some time." with that last bit of information, he exited.

-FLASHBACK END-

(3rd Party POV)

A slight shiver ran through my core as I progressed further into the alley, the same figures seemed to have stopped and entered a shop not too far ahead.
For anyone else, it would seem foolish for what I decided to do but my own interest got the better of me as I walked towards the entrance of the same store where I had seen the figures vanish in.

A flickering sign above the entrance read "Borgin and Burkes," its letters twisted and distorted as if they were alive. Intrigued, Harry ventured inside, the darkness enveloping him like a cloak surrounding him comforting it like a mother's touch but Harry honestly had never experienced anything to truly compare it to.

The shop was dimly lit, the air thick with a scent so foul I cringed in disgust, believing it had been a mistake to venture into this shop. Shelves lined with worn and torn books and different accessories and flasks loomed over him, their contents hidden in shadow. The wand display caught Harry's attention" a row of sleek black wands, their handles adorned with weird engravings that seemed to pulse seemingly like they were alive. Intrigued, Harry reached out to touch one, his fingers tingling with anticipation to touch his very first wand.

"Ah, a new face, or is it possibly an old friend," a voice crooned from the shadows, causing Harry to jump in surprise, he hadn't heard the man move, and to be honest, he didn't even actually notice anyone in the store for that matter, Stepping out from behind the counter was a tall, thin man with a sallow complexion and a greasy smile that oozed nothing but amusement.

"I was just looking," Harry stammered, suddenly feeling out of place in the eerie shop.

The man's smile widened, revealing a row of yellowed teeth. "Looking, eh? Well, you've come to the right place, my young friend. Borgin and Burkes cater to those with unconventional tastes."

Harry nodded nervously, his eyes darting around the shop. Something was unsettling about the man's demeanor, something that sent a shiver down his spine but at the same time piqued his interest.

"Perhaps you'd like to try one of our wands?" the man suggested, gesturing toward the display. "They're quite powerful, you know. Perfect for someone like yourself." The way he worded it set alarm bells off inside Harry's head but he ignored it, he believed at the moment that his interest overcame his sense of dread.

"Perhaps." though the words came out strained it did nothing but widen the smile that stretched upon his face.

Harry cautiously waited and accepted the want from the wrinkled, outstretched hand of the shopkeeper. It felt cold and unsettling in his grasp, sending shivers down his spine. "What's this?" he asked, eyeing the strange wand in his hand, it was long and slightly crocked like a claw the wood black with thin crimson markings covering it from the end to the tip.

The shopkeeper smiled, a knowing glint in his eyes. "Ah, that, young sir is a wand of great power. Tears of a Sky Elf with a Dagons heart, truly a beauty."

"Some say it perfectly represents both the light and dark of the magic world, though, in my honest opinion, it's best for those who walk the line between light and dark."

Harry's brows furrowed in confusion. "Walk the line? What do you mean?" The way he had said it piqued my interest, light? dark? I desperately wanted answers, I wanted to know.

The shopkeeper leaned in, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Good and evil, my dear boy. They're but two sides of the same coin. You cannot have one without the other."

Harry's grip tightened on the wand as he processed the shopkeeper's words. "But... they're opposites, aren't they? How can they be the same?"

The shopkeeper's eyes sparkled with amusement as he chuckled, a sound that sent shivers down Harry's spine. "Ah, but that's where you're mistaken, young sir. Good and evil, light and dark, sin and virtue. Like the Sun and the Moon too much of one causes an imbalance. It's our choices that define which side we embrace."

As Harry pondered the shopkeeper's words, a sense of both dread and anticipation with a small lingering feeling of excitement. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to this wand than what was presented, it held secrets that he couldn't wait to discover if anything that he felt was GREED.

"Think about it, young sir," the shopkeeper said, breaking the silence. "And remember, sometimes the most powerful magic lies in the shadows."

With a nod, Harry asked for the price of the wand, shockingly the shopkeeper rejected payment for this specific wand and said it was on the house.
Though it shocked Harry he tucked the disturbing wand away, the weight of its implications heavy on his mind as he left Borgin and Burkes, the conversation about the nature of good and evil echoing in his thoughts.

"The boy has potential." As Harry had exited the man slowly turned his head towards the shadows that stretched across the corner of the store, two figures cloaked in what you'd perceive as black slowly stepped out. "Mmmyyy wwhaaat hhhopes we have forrr youuunnngg Potter~." The shopkeeper bowed his head towards the tallest of the cloaked figures as he said "Of course, Master Roswaal."

END

I had some fun writing this chapter due to the fact that incorporating Re:Zero into Harry Potter was easy, especially with the bonus of changing the world as a whole. As some of you can see Draco and some characters may be OC mainly due to the world being somewhat darker in tone.

Though Look forward to Harry's Journey or Discovery.

I do not OWN Harry Potter or any other characters that fall into the Harry Potter trilogy.
