Chapter 4
Meanwhile Outside,
The guys ran for the back door and ran outside and phased on a fly once outside. They were following the scent of leech to its sources. They pushed harder and faster to catch the leeches that had infiltrated their land.
Paul caught the scent of one of the leeches, he recognized. Paul took off after the scent.
"Paul, where are you going?" Sam asks.
"I recognize that scent it's the same as the one I smelled when I found Katherine."
They Pushed harder toward the scent that was familiar to Paul. The closer they got the stronger the scent got for them. Soon they came to a clearing where two people stood. The closer they got, the more they could tell that they were leeches and one of them had to be Riley Biers.
"Paul, you, Jake, and Embry head back to the house and protect the imprints." Sam orders Paul, Jake, and Embry.
Paul, Jake, and Embry take off toward the house not knowing that they are being followed. With Riley high up in the trees, the wolves couldn't smell him since the wind was blowing toward them and not away from them.
Riley wanted Katherine so that they could live together forever. Riley wanted to turn Katherine, just like he was turned.
But what Riley didn't know was that Victoria wanted Riley and Katherine for another whole reason. That reason being Victoria was making her a vampire army to take out the Cullens and Bella Swan.
The Cullens had killed her beloved James to save some human, that James was tracking.
"James lost his life just so he could track a girl that the youngest Cullen was obsessed with." Victoria thought.
"Now those stupid wolves are protecting her, and I can't get at her." Victoria thought as she watched the wolves start to stalk toward her.
"Now it seems that Riley's little plaything is also being protected by these wolves." Victoria also thought as she took off running and scaling the trees. Distracting the wolves from protecting Riley's plaything.
Paul, Jake, and Embry make it back to the house not knowing that Riley is hiding high up in a tree watching them. Riley can hear Katherine talking to someone in the house.
"But how do I get into the house?" Riley thought.
Suddenly Riley catches a glimpse of Katherine in an upstairs window with a tall, tan, short-haired girl.
But before Riley can make his move he is spotted by the girl, which causes Katherine to look out the window and see him up a tree looking in.
A howl rings out and the wolves descend after him, so what does he do but flee through the trees as he is being chased by the wolves? What the wolves don't know, especially Paul that is Katherine caught sight of him out the window as well.
Riley got so far ahead of the wolves by the time they had caught up with him, he had jumped into the water at the cliffs.
Back at the house,
Katherine is freaking out; did she see Riley up in a tree? Did she see a giant wolf running after Riley? Leah had said that wolves live in the woods in La Push. Where were the guys they could be getting hurt if they were in the woods with those beasts. What if Riley was telling her all along that you could have been real? What if all the stories she had read over the years had been true? The werewolves and vampires were real in those stories.
Soon the guys came walking back into the house, but she didn't see Paul and now she was worried about him, what if he got hurt out there by those wolves? Katherine was so caught up in her thoughts she didn't see Paul come in from outside. Paul sees her lost in her thoughts, walks up to her, and touches her shoulder. She is brought out of her thoughts; she looks at Paul and is relieved that he is all right.
"You all, right?" Katherine asks Paul.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" Paul answers Katherine.
"Because I saw Riley up in a tree and then I saw giant wolves trying to get at him. You and the guys were all gone, and I was scared that Riley was going to get me and hurt me again I was so scared that I wanted to run…." Paul smashes his mouth into Katherine's mouth to stop her rambling.
They pull apart and Katherine has her eyes closed she can feel Paul staring at her, so she opens her eyes slowly, and there is Paul in all his tan, muscular glory.
"Wow. That was incredible."
"I had to do something to get you to stop rambling on and on."
"Paul, Leah tells me that Katherine saw giant wolves outside the house," Sam says.
"She did," Paul replies.
"You need to tell her the truth. If you don't I will." Sam orders Paul. Paul nods.
Paul looks at Katherine, who looks confused about the whole exchange.
"Let's take a walk," Paul tells Katherine, grabbing her hand and walking her toward the door.
Paul and Katherine walk slowly to the beach. As they walk Paul holds onto Katherine's hand. They make it to the beach and sit on a piece of driftwood that washed up on the shore. Paul looks at their hands holding each other. He wanted to stay like this forever.
"I was born in Tacoma on October 30, 1990, when my parents divorced, I was only eight years old. After they divorced my father Gene Lahote III moved us back to the reservation. I didn't have a lot of friends growing up but the ones I did have were like family. I got angrier as I got older because my mom didn't want me and because there was a big change happening to me that only a few people knew about that change brought someone special into my life. That change was me shapeshifting for the first time in 2006 when I was sixteen. Yes, you saw giant wolves, those giant wolves are me, the guys, and Leah."
Katherine stares at him wide-eyed.
"So, what does that have to do with me?"
"Well, you see wolves do this thing called imprinting. Imprinting when a wolf sees the girl or guy that is their perfect match, and I umm…"
"You Imprinted on me?"
Paul nods.
"what does that mean for us?"
"It means I'll be whatever you want me to be. A boyfriend, a friend, a brother. What I can't have is you not in my life."
"You'll be whatever I want you to be."
"Why are you repeating what I just said?"
Then Paul got to thinking, "Could she be in shock?" Oh, My Spirits, she is in shock.
Paul grabs ahold of Katherine's face and taps her on the cheek.
"Come on Katherine snap out of it you can do it."
That didn't work either, so Paul did the only thing he knew would work. He kissed her. Slowly she came out of her shock. When they pulled apart, Katherine blinked. That is how Paul knew she was out of her shock.
"I am sorry, what did you say after the whole imprinting thing?"
"I said I will be whatever you want me to be."
"I think that kiss answered that question."
Paul was ecstatic that she wanted him as a boyfriend.
"So, you will be my girlfriend and accept the imprint?"
"Yes, I will be your girlfriend and I will accept the imprint. On one condition."
"Name it. I will do anything for you."
"Keep Riley Biers away from me and explain why I saw Riley up a tree."
"Riley is what we call cold ones or leeches, which are vampires. That is why you saw Riley up a tree, he was after you. I half expect him to want to change you in what he is now."
"But I do not want that. I never did and I certainly do not want it now. Now that I have found the person I am going to be with for the rest of my life."
"I am glad to hear that."
They sit there in silence for a while just enjoying each other's company.
"I guess I should tell you about myself since I know about you and how you are a wolf."
"Only if you want to tell me about yourself."
"I was born Katherine Elizabeth Nightingale on April 23, 1989, I am nineteen about to be twenty. My parents are or were Millie and Calvin Nightingale. My parents were killed in a car accident right after I turned eighteen, so I sold all my parents' stuff their house, the cars, everything. I moved to Washington State shortly after that I found a job at a bookstore selling books and coffee and occasional treats like muffins, and cinnamon rolls. My favorite food is green beans. My favorite animal is the dolphin. I had a cat named Freddie Mercury when I was little. Any questions?"
"Yeah. Where did you grow up?"
"West Virginia."
"Also, your birthday is tomorrow. How do you feel about that?
"It's just another day."
Paul starts to think that she deserves a party, you only turn twenty once in your life.

Sorry, it took me so long to write this chapter I kept getting writer's block, and last month I was so busy with other stuff that I didn't have time to work on it. I will do better by posting chapters. Please keep reading and reviewing.
