Chapter 646
Let's Hope Not
Allison and Vanna were alone in her room. She moaned softly with pleasure as Vanna 'worked' on her. Her body tensed as she let out a squeal of delight.
Vanna stayed with it until Allison made it again. She lifted her head and looked through the valley of Allison's breasts as her head and neck arched back.
"You do it so well." Allison gasped.
Vanna was privileged enough to have been the first one to show Allison that form of pleasure. She still remembered how nervous and excited Allison was the first time she did it. It was a way for her to express the love she felt for Allison through a form of physical manifestation.
"There's no one I would rather do it to or for." Vanna said. "I love you more than anyone. I always have and I always will."
Allison felt the same way. She was hopelessly in love with Vanna no matter what she tried to tell herself. It was who she always wanted to share her love with. The love they shared with each other was different from the love they shared with anyone else.
Vanna moved up next to Allison. She looked into her big brown puppy dog eyes.
Allison looked back into Vanna's blue eyes.
They stared into each other's eyes for a long moment. Words weren't necessary to convey their feelings towards each other. The words were written in time. It included the future, the past, and the present. They slowly moved forward and kissed.
Allison smiled. She was ready to express her love.
"My turn…." Allison said.
She moved down and took up the position Vanna was in just a few seconds ago.
They both liked to 'work' on the other one first, before they 'worked' on each other at the same time. It was a way for them to show their specific love for each other and it wasn't just about sex. They wanted to show each other how much they mattered.
They both doubted they would get very much sleep during the night.
Cameron was afraid she was a target. She wasn't sure if she was or not. She didn't want to take any chances. She wanted to keep Savannah out of harm's way. She knew it was a little late for it, but at least away from any additional harm. Maybe at this point it wasn't possible. Maybe it was never possible. Maybe anytime she was around Savannah she was a threat to her. She knew she was a threat to John anytime she was around him. She didn't feel her presence made any of them safer when she was near them.
"I need to separate from both of you." Cameron said. "If I'm being targeted somehow, I'm a threat. I just need a little distance. I don't want some type of missile to be fired at me, and have it injured or damage you two."
Savannah knew a bad idea when she heard it. She was afraid Cameron would be too reckless on her own. Cameron's past practice was a pretty good indication of it. She didn't believe Cameron was being targeted specifically. It was probably coincidence more than anything else
"No." Savannah said. "I want us to remain together."
Cameron wanted Savannah away from the danger zone. It appeared the only threat which remained were the two Terminators. There were most likely other dangers which weren't evident yet. They would probably find out about them soon enough. It would be better if she dealt with whatever arose on her own.
"I'll engage the Terminators." Cameron said. "You two can withdraw. The main objective is destroyed."
Savannah didn't want Cameron to go off on her own. She wanted them to be able to support each other. It would be too easy for one of them to be attacked, especially Cameron if she was by herself.
"No." Savannah said. "We fight together. I don't want us to split up."
Cameron didn't know what other threats there were. There could still be hidden dangers. She was sure her presence endangered everyone. She was still worried there was a bullseye painted on her back.
"Let me at least move a little bit away from you." Cameron said. "I might draw enemy fire."
Cammy knew she could take on the two Terminators. She could do whatever Cameron could do. Hopefully it would be done a little less recklessly.
"Cameron, it's you who needs to withdraw." Cammy said. "I'll take care of the Terminators. Savannah, go with Cameron."
Savannah was still against splitting up the team.
"No." Savannah said. "We stay together. Cameron can move off to the side to flank the Terminators."
Gail was out of air to surface missiles. She could still act.
"I can drop down and take them with the gun." Gail said.
Savannah was aware a burst from a minigun which would be needed to stop a Terminator, might also explode their power cell. It would take a head shot or an extended burst to the lower extremities. She was concerned about Cameron's worry she was targeted somehow. Maybe Gail could spot something happening from up above.
"Negative." Savannah said. "Keep a lookout for any HK drones. Have your counter measures ready. Tell us where the Terminators are at and if they are using any equipment to target Cameron. If anything is happening around us we need to know."
It appeared to Gail both of the Terminators were in bad shape.
"If they did have anything, it was destroyed in the missile strike." Gail said. "They have a lot of metal showing on them."
Cameron didn't welcome the news. It meant their job would be a little harder.
"Taser shots may strike metal and deflect." Cameron said. "We will disable them with our Coltan rounds and move in for the kill."
Gail watched as the two Terminators moved away from each other.
"The two Terminators are on the move. They've split up." Gail said. "One is behind the…."
Cameron and Cammy glanced at each other. They lost Gail in mid-sentence.
"Gail?" Cameron asked.
Both Cameron and Cammy looked up to see if something happened to Gail.
Savannah looked up too. There were a series of flares being launched. Gail needed to use countermeasures. It indicated she was under attack.
"I think Gail needs to withdraw from the area." Savannah said.
John thought his team was able to get things under control. Sheila spotted a new threat.
"Targets…." Sheila said.
John still hadn't spotted where the new threat was at.
"What direction and how many of them are there?" John asked.
Sheila was able to spot the threat through the smoke pouring out of the side of the building. She was able to have a better view of things from her current position at the back of the van.
"There are two white vans about to exit the burning building." Sheila said. "I haven't detected another HK drone threat yet. Maybe we can capture a few blokes. I would like to ask them a few questions."
Sheila was faced with a choice. She wanted to stop the vans. She would like conduct a personal discussion with some of those fleeing. She would need to trade in the Stinger for a different weapon. There were several choices available to her. Her first instinct was to grab a LAW rocket. It would severely disable the van and probably terminate those inside of it. It might damage the second van as well. She reached down and picked up another weapon instead.
There was another loud 'boom' from a Barrett M82A1.
Sheila was at the back of the van. She switched to the Barrett. She scored a hit.
"Only one of the vans is still moving." Sheila said. "I hit the other one in the engine with the 'Barrett Light Fifty'. The engine has seized. They're stuck. Let me have a live one and we can get some answers."
John Henry was able to spot the threat with one of the drones as the two vans exited the burning building.
"I have both of them targeted." John Henry said. "I'm ready to fire. Only one of them is still moving."
John came up with another idea. He wanted to see where the van was headed.
"No. Let the one van still running leave." John said. "Put a drone on it."
Dan and Al advanced on the remaining van.
"We're moving in on the other one." Al said. "In the van Sheila disabled, there's still some movement inside of it."
It was just what Sheila wanted to hear.
"Bring me a couple of live ones." Sheila said.
John looked over and saw Sheila now held her knife in one hand and the M82A1 in the other. He didn't want things to get carried away on an operation he was personally on.
"Finish off the survivors." John said.
There was some gunfire from the location of the disabled van.
"The threat is neutralized." Dan said. "All targets have been terminated."
Sheila looked a little disappointed.
John didn't want to leave any Skynet technology behind.
"I want to retrieve the Terminator who was taken down." John said.
Al made his way to the Terminator and made sure he was deactivated.
"We'll collect it." Al said. "We have the area under control."
John was worried about where the two HK drones still airborne were currently at. They could change direction at any time. It would only take them a matter of minutes to reach either location where their teams currently were.
"What happened with the two hostile HK drones which were approaching?" John asked.
John Henry already took some action. He decided to bring one of them down in a remote area. A missile exploded near the other one. The missile was purposely exploded before it reached the target so it would only be hit with shrapnel. The goal was to make it look like it escaped.
"One is down. The other one is damaged and fleeing." John Henry said. "We have two drones in pursuit. I want to see where it goes. I've dispatched the Blackhawk to retrieve the downed HK drone. There should be a team of Cameron's Terminators there at the crash site. They will check it over and prepare it for transport."
John hadn't heard any updates about the other Skynet site.
"What about Cameron's team?" John asked.
John Henry lost communications with the entire area.
"It's unknown at this time." John Henry said. "Cameron thought she was being targeted somehow. I've lost contact with Cameron, Cammy, Savannah, and Gail. We've encountered a Skynet jamming field emanating from location."
Bob understood it for the bad news it was. It most likely meant the operation was far from over.
"This is getting better by the minute." Bob said.
John knew Cameron was still in the thick of it. It was a bad sign. It showed there were Grays or Terminators still in the fight. Maybe the fight where Cameron was at was just getting started and not about to conclude.
He thought things were pretty well wrapped up where he currently was. It seemed like it would be a good time to reinforce Cameron.
Cameron was sure she was being specifically tracked somehow. Cammy indicated otherwise, but she wasn't sure. She didn't want to needlessly endanger Savannah.
"I need to move away now." Cameron said. "I might be targeted."
Savannah could tell how bothered Cameron was by her speculation. She wanted to keep the team in visual contact. With the loss of communications they would need to revert to a time honored and traditional way to communicate.
"Stay in sight." Savannah said. "At least so Cammy knows where you are. We need to be able to support each other."
Cameron was relieved she was less of a threat to Savannah. She moved off to the north side. She felt it was the side where a threat was most likely to develop.
Cammy watched Cameron go. She wanted to keep track of where she was at. She looked over at Savannah. She wanted her to stay close. She believed any threat which developed would be in front of them.
"I'll lead, you follow." Cammy said.
Savannah looked up into the sky. There was still one team member who was unaccounted for.
"What about Gail?" Savannah asked.
Cammy felt it was out of their hands. They didn't have enough information to go on.
"There's little we can do." Cammy said. "There was no flaming wreckage so she's defeated the attack, at least for now. There may be additional ones."
Savannah wasn't convinced Gail hadn't been hit.
"She must've been damaged." Savannah said. "We've lost contact."
Cammy was more worried about a pressing issue. There was a threat on the ground near where they were at.
"We must stay focused on the Terminators." Cammy said. "It's our immediate threat."
Savannah hadn't lost focus. She was still concerned about Gail. She was concerned about Cameron and their team.
"I am." Savannah said. "We'll move in silence from here on."
Cammy moved forward. She needed to keep an eye on Cameron. She knew Cameron would break off to engage a Terminator if she saw it first. She checked on Savannah and looked back at Cameron. Cameron was gone. She just was there a second ago. She tried to contact Cameron. There was no response. It was probably why they lost contact with Gail. There was a Skynet jamming field in effect. It wasn't a good sign.
"I've lost all contact with everyone." Cammy said. "All our communications are down."
Savannah was really worried now. The timing seemed to be off.
"It usually happens at the beginning of the operation, not at the end, unless…." Savannah said. "Things are just getting started."
Cammy was aware of the fact as well. The two damaged Terminators they knew about, were probably not the only threat they were going to need to face.
"Let's hope not." Cammy said.
They all knew they were under armed for a bigger battle. There were at least two Terminators stalking them and some new unknown threat. There was also whoever was responsible for the attack on Gail in the manned drone. They didn't see where the attack was initiated from.
Young Allison was in the Young bunker with Anna. She knew Vanna and Cam arrived earlier. Normally she would try to see what exactly was going on, even if she knew exactly what was going on. Anna didn't want her to be distracted. She monitored the two Resistance operations currently underway. She watched things go from bad to worse.
"This is getting more involved by the minute." Young Allison said.
Anna wanted Young Allison to come up with some solutions.
"What do we do?" Anna asked. "You have all the information."
Young Allison didn't like the team being cut off from communicating with anyone.
"If we're on the ground we need to attack. If necessary we can fight our way out." Young Allison said. "With the loss of communications, we wouldn't know what was happening in the air above us or around us. We could be vulnerable to an HK drone attack if we were caught out in the open.
Anna wanted Young Allison to remember some of the previous actions they took in the past.
"How do we contact anyone?" Anna asked.
Young Allison knew there were a few techniques.
"We can use drones to look down from the sides and send more Terminators in." Young Allison said. "Where are Cameron's Terminators at?"
Anna I wanted to remind Young Allison it wasn't always as easy as she indicated.
"They've lost contact as well." Anna said.
CamNet was no longer able to show the position of the team members on the ground in relation to the satellite maps.
"How soon will it be until we get a sideways look from a drone?" Young Allison asked.
Anna knew Cameron already sent four drones off to track down the two HK drones which previously approached their position.
"It's still a few minutes out." Anna said. "John Henry has one drone following the one fleeing. CamNet has one of Cameron's following it from an even higher altitude. Gail's status with the manned drone is unknown. Two drones are about to return to Cameron's area after shooting down one HK drone. Cameron previously redirected them to back up John once they'd completed their task."
Young Allison believed they should stick with what they could actually track or follow.
"Let's look at John's team until we get more information on Cameron's team." Young Allison said. "Aren't you going to tell me not to worry?"
Anna figured there was plenty to worry about.
"No, I'm worried about it myself." Anna said. "Anything could happen."
Young Allison already knew it could. Cameron's team was in immediate danger. They didn't have a way to see what was currently happening. There was no visual or audio communication with them.
Cameron saw Cammy and Savannah off to her side. She spotted some movement. She was sure it was one of the Terminators. She went wide around the area to come in from the back. She hoped to take him from behind. The task might be easier said than done when dealing with a Terminator. They were always very aware of their surroundings.
She moved into position. It was one of the hostile Terminators. Much of his sheath was damaged, but mechanically it seemed operational. The other one wasn't in sight. Her first suspicion was he probably used the other Terminator as bait. It's what she would do if she knew the enemy was in close proximity and after her.
Cameron noted the Terminator searched the area where she was earlier. It stalked her in the wrong spot. How did he know what her previous location was? Why did he think she would remain there? The Terminator seemed to be unaware she stalked it. She still sensed some type of 'Sucker Play' about to happen.
She moved in closer. She picked up a small stone and threw it almost straight up. With the method she used, it would come almost straight down. It would be away from where Savannah and Cammy were. They were currently off to the Terminator's side. She still hadn't spotted the other Terminator yet.
The stone landed with a faint 'thud'. It landed in the dirt. The Terminator moved in the direction of the sound. Cameron moved up behind him. She still wondered where the other Terminator was. She detected the sound of movement in the air above her. It cost her a considerable amount of alarm when she first detected it. There was nowhere for her to go to seek cover if it was an HK drone attack.
The whine of HK drone engines turned into a scream as a minigun opened up. Cameron dove for cover as the rounds impacted off to her side and behind her. She thought it was a hostile attack at first. It wasn't.
The manned drone pulled up and rapidly disappeared. Gail apparently blasted a target which must have moved in behind her.
From where she landed, Cameron spotted the shredded remains of the other Terminator. It evidently was stalking her. Gail saw what was about to happen and came in low to use the gun. She knew Gail saved her from some damage. She didn't see any sparks or smoke coming from the Terminator's chassis. She didn't believe his power cell was compromised. She wanted to go to him and remove his chip to make sure he stayed deactivated. They were still an active threat near where she was at.
Cameron quickly turned her attention back to the Terminator she was stalking. He was gone. She looked around and started forward. He most likely knew her position. She would need to reacquire him. This wasn't over yet.
Seconds ago:
Cammy heard it first. It was the sound of an approaching HK drone. She forced Savannah down to the ground. She moved her mouth up against Savannah's ear.
"Get down and stay down." Cammy whispered.
By the time she was on the ground, Savannah heard it too. She thought it was an HK drone attack. The whine turned into a scream. The minigun fired. She expected to be shredded. Nothing happened in their location. She was still concerned about Cameron.
As quickly as it showed up, it was gone.
'Cameron!' Savannah thought.
Cammy signaled for Savannah to move, she saw the manned drone. It was Gail. She mouthed the word 'Gail' and Savannah nodded. Her M4 searched for a target. They came across the shredded remains of one Terminator. He was no longer operational. The Coltan rounds from the minigun did their job. His lower torso and both his legs were thoroughly shredded.
She witnessed past encounters where the lower half of a Terminator was blown off. The torso section with the arms still functioned. The damaged Terminator would still attempt to move around to fight or continue its mission. She read the reports of Sarah's encounter with one. It was where Future Kyle was terminated and she barely escaped. The torso section still tried to terminate Sarah. She was able to crush it in a press with its hand only inches from her throat. She wasn't going to take any chances with the one she just encountered.
Cammy didn't want it to go after Savannah if it reactivated. She quickly pulled his chip. It was the only way to be sure.
Savannah watched Cammy deactivate the Terminator. She knew there was still one threat out there. Cameron was out there as well. It was reassuring to know Gail still had eyes on the battle zone. If she could communicate with Gail, she would want her to watch over Cameron, instead of her.
John wanted to do something. He still wanted to help Cameron's team if they could. Sheila only disabled one of the two vans which left the burning building. They wanted to see where it went.
"We're going to follow the van." John said. "Let's go, Jim."
Jim wanted more Terminators to go with them. He selected three other Terminators to accompany them.
"We need additional personnel." Jim said. "There are others here now who can take over this location and see what else was inside the structure. Bob, Ally, and Sheila are coming with us as well."
Ally didn't plan to let John out of her sight. She couldn't let anything happen to him. Cameron specifically told Sheila and her they were responsible for John in her absence.
"Damn straight." Ally said. "I'll ride with John. Bob and Sheila can follow with the heavy weapons in the van."
John didn't think he needed so many Terminators to accompany him.
Bob wanted John to understand they needed to accompany him no matter what. They didn't want any additional fallout from Cameron.
"It is the only way, John." Bob said. "We need to think of your safety."
John thought there were enough personnel on hand to take over the site. He looked over and spotted the closest Terminator. It was Al. He signaled for him to come over to him.
"Al, I'm turning this area over to you." John said. "Watch out for any Terminators and retrieve what's left of the HK drone."
Al was updated by CamNet.
"Affirmative…." Al said. "Anything salvageable we'll take. CamNet has a truck on the way. We will be able to load up whatever we need to take with us."
Everything sounded like it was in order to John. It was time for them to move out.
"Let's roll." John said.
John Henry knew protesting was useless. He quietly assigned a couple drones to follow them.
John hoped there was some updated information about Cameron's team. They hadn't heard anything for a while. He knew if the information was available, it would have been shared with him. He still felt the need to ask about it anyway.
"What's the latest on Cameron?" John asked.
John Henry didn't have anything new. He could only base his assumptions on past experience.
"All contact has been lost." John Henry said. "CamNet has directed a drone to look in from the side. I think it is the same type of jamming field we've run into before."
John wanted to know what was happening one way or another.
"As soon as you hear anything, either good or bad, I want to know." John said. "Don't let us get too close to the white van."
John Henry was able to track everything outside of the jamming zone.
"I won't. I'm sending more of our Terminators your way." John Henry said.
John didn't feel his team was currently in danger.
"Send some Cameron's way." John said.
John Henry was aware some action was already taken.
"CamNet has it covered." John Henry said.
Based on the lack of information, or knowing the status of Cameron's team, John felt otherwise.
"It doesn't sound like it." John said.
John was worried about Cameron and her team. He knew If he went there, it would bring more resources closer to Cameron. He knew he may have drawn them off earlier, now he planned to bring them closer. There was more than one way to play the game. The only trouble was, he knew it wasn't a game.
The current lack of information from Cameron's team left a lot of unanswered questions. There were undetermined threats waiting for them.
Closing monologue by Cameron:
Let's Hope Not
It's been said to be careful
What one may wish for
Because what they end up with
They may soon enough abhor
Nothing in life is absolute
Every time one rolls the dice
Snake Eyes are always near
Few seem to turn out nice
No one always remains the same
Everyone will evolve and change
Once one realizes that fact
It's easier to seek some 'strange'
Is the grass ever really greener
On the other side of the hill
It seldom seems that way
Once they get their fill
The other's true self
Can leave one's gut in a knot
Maybe they both do
Let's hope not
Nobody
