A/N: Y'all. I'm alive. Don't worry. :D Just been super busy, but today I had some time on my hands, so, Imma attempt to catch up on all my writing, hope you guys are doing okay and if your not, hope you get better. :) Prompt: What if one of your characters went a little loopy after getting medicine from some sort of accident, what would they act like? We love Bob, yes…but I can't help but give him some pain/whump. Sorry buddy.
Rooster pulled himself out of the depths of sleep when he felt someone shaking his shoulder. He blinked his eyes blearily and squinted at the dark figure standing next to his bed. "Mav?" he asked hoarsely.
"Sorry to wake you kiddo," Maverick whispered, "But I have to go to the hospital."
Rooster sat up, more alert and awake, questions burning through his mind. "Wait what? Are you okay? What happened?" he asked.
Maverick laughed a little, "I'm fine, Rooster." He started leaving the room.
"Wait!" Rooster jumped out his bed, pulling on a shirt and started chasing Maverick through the hall. "Then why are you going to the hospital?"
Maverick was grabbing his keys, almost out the door. "Because they called and said Bob had to have emergency surgery to get his appendix out."
"Oh." Rooster stopped and stood in the doorway. "Can I come?"
Maverick looked up and down Rooster, raising an eyebrow. "Not without pants."
Rooster looked down just now realizing he was in his boxers. A blush crept into his cheeks, and he turned around saying he'll be right back. Maverick laughed and Rooster ran to his room, seizing some jeans and putting them on.
They drove on to the hospital in almost complete silence, only broken by Maverick's thumbs tapping on the wheel. He pulled up in front of the hospital and parked, both getting out and rushing inside. Maverick walked quickly to the receptionist, and asked where they were keeping Bob. Rooster watched as the women pointed and Maverick nodded at Rooster. He followed him through the rooms and into the back.
The doctor met them outside the room. He saw them and smiled, "He just got out of surgery, and he's still out like a light. Thankfully, he's expected to make full recovery."
"Thank you." Maverick said, "Can we go in and see him?"
"Of course." The doctor stepped out of the way and allowed the two men into the room.
Bob was laying on a hospital bed, a white blanket covering him, and there was an IV connected to his wrist, as well as a heart monitor. Other than the slight paleness to his face and the bags under his eyes, Bob looked okay. "Just to let you know, he's on strong medicines right now, so he may act a little…loopy." The doctor informed them before leaving.
Rooster pulled up a chair and sat down to watch Bob. Maverick texted the group chat to let them know what was going on. Maverick chuckled, and Rooster frowned, "What did they say?" he asked.
"They want me to video call." Maverick said, his fingers moving to press the facetime button on his phone. He re-clicked it. And re-clicked it. "Gosh darn it, I hate these digital phones. Why don't you kids still you the dial phones? They were so much easier to navigate."
Rooster stared dumbfounded at him. "Maverick. You fly literal F/A-18 Super Hornets! And you can't navigate a phone?"
Maverick laughed, "Some things come easier than others." He clicked the button one last time and it responded with a ringtone. "Finally!"
"Eyyy…." Rooster heard Hangman's sleepy voice on the other side, "How's Bob doing?"
"He's doing good." Maverick responded, "Just sleeping right now."
"Has he woken up at all?" Phoenix asked.
"No." Rooster answered, "We're just hanging out in his room right now."
"Ahh."
They chatted for a while longer, until Bob woke up. He blinked blearily at Rooster, squinting. "Roo-roo?" He asked.
Rooster was taken aback, "Uh, yeah. It's me, Rooster."
Maverick sat in his seat shaking in suppressed laughter and Rooster could distantly hear the others laughing as well.
Bob chuckled. "Thas a funny name. Roo-roo." His speech was slightly slurred as well.
Rooster leaned over, "How are you feeling Bob?"
Bob grinned, "Greatly!" He squinted at Rooster's face. "Whas that?" he asked, picking up a hand and touching Rooster's nose.
Rooster glanced at Maverick whose face had now turned red and was doing a terrible job of not laughing. He noticed that his phone camera was facing them. Great. The others were seeing everything.
"Um, that's my nose." Rooster finally answered, "You have one too."
"I do?" Bob looked honest to goodness surprised. He crossed his eyes to look at his nose and giggled. "Hehe, it's so tiny."
Rooster bit his lip as they quirked in a grin. Bob caught sight of Maverick. "Hi." He said brightly.
"Hello." Maverick choked out as he tried to gain control of his emotions, "How you doin' Robert."
"Déjà vu." Bob's eyes widened, "I feel like my heads in the clouds." He abruptly changed the subject. "Can I have a cupcake?"
"No, I don't think you can have a cupcake." Maverick said.
"But…" Bob made a sad face, "but why?"
Another round of laughter threatened to spill out. "Because you're healing!"
"I'm healing!?" Bob asked. "From what? Where's Phoenix! Is she okay!?"
"Ahahahaha!" Rooster laughed.
"Why are you laughing at me?" Bob exclaimed, tears creeping up into his eyes.
A look of pure horror crossed Rooster's face for a split second. "No, no, no. I'm not laughing at you!"
Bob's shoulders sank. "Where's the others?" he finally asked.
"They're okay." Maverick said, "They're right here." He turned his phone to allow Bob to see the Daggers.
"Ah! They're in the screen!" Bob yelled, "How'd the get in the screen! You said they were okay!"
"Yeah, they're okay!" Maverick quickly explained, "They're just on call."
"Call?"
"Yeah, they're on call." Maverick repeated.
"Who's Call?" Bob asked.
Maverick laughed again. Rooster smacked his head in his hands. This was going to be perfect blackmail for Bob later in life.
