Ch.66A - Sand Among the Leaves
- In Konoha -
The streets of Konoha were alive with a newfound energy, bustling with the anticipation of the approaching exams. The once-familiar thoroughfares were now teeming with twice as many people, weaving their way through the maze of makeshift stalls and shops that had sprung up overnight. In a tranquil part of the village, Naruto, Ino, and Shino walked together.
As they strolled along the path, Naruto's thoughts turned to the looming tests. "Ne... Do you guys wanna talk about the exams?..." he asked, breaking the comfortable silence between them.
Ino and Shino turned their attention to him, curiosity evident in their eyes. "What exactly do you want to talk about then, Naruto?" Ino inquired.
"I honestly don't know... I was hoping that the two of you knows something about it..." Naruto said sheepishly to which Ino rolled her eyes.
"I have information to offer, but it is not much... I was able to hear a conversation between my father and a relative of mine, I've heard that the first exam would be a written one," Shino offered.
"Oh... A writ—WRITTEN WHAT?!" Naruto's exclamation of shock echoed through the quiet park.
Shino, ever calm, clarified, "A written exam, Naruto..."
Ino couldn't help but tease, "Jeez... Are you going deaf or something?..."
"I heard what he said, Ino... I just wasn't expecting there to be a written portion... I honestly thought that we'd put written tests behind us..." Naruto confessed, a hint of frustration in his voice.
"Well, too bad... We're gonna take one soon, Naruto," Ino remarked with a shrug.
"*groans* Man... This blows..." Naruto grumbled.
"What're you whining about, Naruto?... Just study up before the exam, don't you enjoy reading now?..." Ino suggested nonchalantly.
"I mean, duh... And yeah, sure I may like reading now but that doesn't change the fact that we don't know what the coverage will be!" Naruto retorted, causing Ino to realize he had a valid point.
"Maybe it's about Chunin stuff?... I don't know..." Ino mused, to which Naruto sighed.
"Maybe we should ask Asuma-sensei about it?..." Naruto proposed.
Ino quickly shut down the idea. "I doubt Asuma-sensei will tell us anything about it... We're lucky enough to find out that there's a written test... And keep your mouth shut, Naruto... Don't blab to Asuma-sensei that we know something about the exams..."
"Relax, Ino... Sheesh... It's like you don't trust me or something..." Naruto retorted, feeling slightly insulted.
"Calm down... I was just saying," Ino replied but then the three of them noticed a box that was poorly disguised to look like a rock scurrying towards them.
"Is it just me, or do you guys see that box too?..." Ino asked, squinting at the oddly conspicuous object on the path ahead. Shino nodded in agreement.
"*sigh* Just ignore it..." Naruto said, his tone unimpressed. Both Ino and Shino decided to pay no attention to it as they continued walking, but then they sensed the box move once more and couldn't help but follow it.
"*groans* I know you're in there... There's no such thing as a perfectly square rock with perfect holes, you know?! It's totally obvious!" Naruto said, exasperation clear in his voice.
"Just what you'd expect from the man I respect! You are my rival, aren't you?!" a voice from within the box responded. Suddenly, the box shone brightly, surprising Shino, Ino, and Naruto.
The bright light exploded into a large plume of smoke. Once the smoke dissipated, it revealed three kids coughing from the smoke.
- (Naruto OST: It's The Training) -
"I think *cough* we used too much *cough* gunpowder," the kid in the middle said. They then turned their attention towards Shino, Ino, and Naruto, who were simply staring at them.
The three kids quickly recomposed themselves and launched into their introduction.
"With an adult sexiness! I'm Moegi of the senior class at Kunoichi Preschool!" declared a young girl with orange hair tied in pigtails.
"I love factoring! Udon!" announced a young boy who wore glasses.
"The most brilliant ninja in the village! Konohamaru!" the kid in the middle proclaimed proudly.
"The three of us together are... The Konohamaru Gang! Here we are!" all three kids said in unison, striking a pose.
"I knew it was you guys... Huh? Why are you all wearing goggles?..." Naruto asked, puzzled.
"Hehehe... We're just copying what you used to do, boss!" Konohamaru chuckled.
"Hmmm..." Naruto stammered, unsure of how to respond.
"What's with the 'hmmm'?... Your reactions have been pretty cold these days, boss!" Konohamaru replied, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
"So? What do you guys want?..." Naruto asked, trying to steer the conversation.
"See? Cold," Konohamaru whispered to Udon and Moegi.
"So, leader! Do you have some free time now?..." Moegi asked kindly.
"Not really... I'm planning to prepare and do some last-minute training for the Chunin Exams, dattebayo!" Naruto declared loudly, trying to emphasize his busyness.
"What?! You said you'd play ninja with us today!" Konohamaru argued, looking betrayed.
"When did I say that?..." Naruto asked, genuinely confused.
"YESTERDAY!" Konohamaru reminded him, his frustration evident.
"Oh? Is that right?... Sorry, I must've forgot, hehe..." Naruto said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment.
In Naruto's mind: "Jeez... If I played with these guys, I'd be stuck with them the whole day..."
But then Ino suddenly burst into laughter. "HAHAHAHAHA! I didn't know you had a fan club, Naruto!" she laughed and snorted, catching everyone's attention.
"Naruto-niichan, who's she?..." Konohamaru asked, squinting at Ino. Then he grinned as a thought struck him. "You've been busier than I thought, boss..."
"Huh?..." Naruto wondered, not catching on.
"Is she your... Y'know?... Hehe..." Konohamaru chuckled suggestively.
Ino, overhearing this, abruptly stopped laughing and smacked the back of Konohamaru's head. "OW! THAT HURT! The heck is your problem?! You ugly wench!" Konohamaru exclaimed, tightening his fist in anger.
"HA?!... Who're you calling an ugly wench?!" Ino's tone was furious, her eyes blazing.
"You! Obviously... And what's up with your laugh?! On second thought, no way you're boss' girlfriend with that laugh of yours!" Konohamaru doubled down, crossing his arms defiantly.
The look on Ino's face grew a lot more serious, her eyes narrowing dangerously. Konohamaru gulped, realizing too late that he shouldn't have commented on Ino's laugh. The tension in the air was palpable as he braced himself for her reaction.
Konohamaru slowly backed off, weighing his options. "O-On second thought... I just realized that I have s-something to do, Naruto-niichan! Hehehe... See ya!..." he stammered as he scurried away from Ino. But before he could get far, he bumped into someone, causing him to fall on his bottom.
Looking up, Konohamaru saw the person he had collided with. The guy wore a black, baggy, full-body suit with a red and yellow circle on the front. A black hood covered his head completely, adorned with cat-like ears, and his forehead protector was prominently displayed on his forehead. Beside him stood a girl with sandy blonde hair and teal-colored eyes. She wore a single light purple, off-the-shoulder garment that extended to halfway down her thighs, secured with a scarlet sash around her waist. Her outfit also included fishnet worn over her shoulders and legs, specifically on her right calf and left thigh. Her black forehead protector was tied around her neck.
"That hurt," the boy said in a cold tone, his gaze fixed on Konohamaru with an unreadable expression.
Konohamaru gulped, recognizing the imposing presence of the two newcomers. Ino, Naruto, and Shino turned their attention to the commotion, sensing the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
- With Sasuke -
Sasuke strolled down a shaded path, his thoughts drifting as he made his way home. But as he neared a bend in the road, a sudden commotion caught his attention. Voices raised in alarm pierced the tranquil air, disrupting his contemplative state.
"Konohamaru!" a voice yelled, sharp and urgent.
Sasuke's ears perked up. He recognized the voice immediately and felt a stir of curiosity. Wondering what could be happening, he decided to investigate. Without hesitation, he vaulted over a nearby wooden fence with practiced ease. His movements were fluid and precise as he climbed up a sturdy tree, finding a vantage point that offered a clear view of the scene below.
From his perch, Sasuke observed Shino, Ino, and Naruto standing together, their expressions tense. His gaze then shifted downward, where he saw a figure in black seemingly picking a fight with a smaller kid.
He didn't recognize the individual below, but then Sasuke's eyes narrowed as he noticed the symbol on the guy's hitai-ate. It wasn't the familiar leaf of Konoha (Hidden Leaf) but the symbol of Suna (Hidden Sand). Instantly, he deduced that these two were genin (low/junior ninja) from Sunagakure (Hidden Sand Village), likely here for the upcoming Chunin Exams (Chūnin Senbatsu Shiken).
Intrigued by the unfolding situation, Sasuke decided to stay and watch. He wanted to see how Naruto would handle the encounter, curious to gauge his friend's capabilities. It had been a while since their last significant interaction, and Sasuke was keen to see if Naruto had grown stronger. Settling comfortably on the branch, Sasuke's eyes remained sharp and attentive, ready to observe every detail of the confrontation below.
- With Naruto -
"That hurt, you punk!" the guy snarled, tightening his grip on Konohamaru's scarf.
Konohamaru groaned, clenching tightly onto the guy's arm in a desperate attempt to alleviate some of the pain.
"Stop fooling around, you'll get yelled at later!" the girl with sandy blonde hair scolded, her tone impatient.
"Look, he clearly didn't mean it... So, just put him down," Ino offered, trying to de-escalate the situation.
In Ino's mind: "Who the hell are these two?..."
"Oi! Guy with the goofy-ass makeup! Put Konohamaru down!" Naruto yelled, his voice echoing with determination. The guy just grinned, showing no intention of complying.
In the guy's mind: "Heh... So these are Konoha's genin, huh?..."
"How about we play a game before he comes around?" the guy suggested with a sinister grin.
"Let go!" Konohamaru protested, kicking about in a futile attempt to free himself.
"You're pretty lively, you punk..." the guy said, tightening his grip. Konohamaru groaned in pain, struggling harder.
Naruto couldn't stand it any longer. He clenched his fist tightly, his teeth gritting in anger. "That's it!" Naruto yelled as he charged toward the guy, who remained unmoved.
Suddenly, the guy glared at Naruto, moving his hand ever so slightly and fidgeting his fingers. Naruto noticed something off and saw a thin line positioned in front of his next step. He quickly vaulted over it, landing in a roll. Without missing a beat, Naruto transitioned into a leg sweep aimed at the guy. The guy released Konohamaru and jumped back to avoid Naruto's leg.
"Is that all you got?..." the guy taunted, his voice dripping with arrogance.
Naruto wasn't finished. "Far from it..." he replied, forming his hands into a familiar seal. "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (Shadow Clone Technique)," he muttered, a plume of smoke materializing around him.
"We're really gonna get yelled at..." the girl remarked, watching the scene unfold. But the guy wasn't paying attention, his focus entirely on Naruto.
As the smoke cleared, Narutos emerged with three clones of himself, each one ready to fight. The guy's eyes widened slightly, recognizing the technique but not expecting its sudden use. The clones spread out, surrounding him and leaving no room for escape.
In the guy's mind: "Clones, huh?... This should be interesting..."
The guy then got into a fighting stance as he braced himself. The first clone cocked its fist back and delivered a punch at him, but he was able to block it using his left arm. With his right hand, he grabbed the clone's wrist and twisted it, forcing the clone off balance. Taking advantage of this, he delivered a swift knee to the clone's abdomen, causing it to stagger backward and dispel afterwards.
Before he could catch his breath, the second clone came at him from the side, launching a spinning kick aimed at his head. He ducked just in time, feeling the rush of air as the kick narrowly missed him. In one fluid motion, he sprang up and countered with an uppercut to the clone's jaw, sending it flying. The clone then landed on the ground with a thud and dispelled afterwards.
With a sudden surge of energy, the third clone propelled itself forward, its movements swift and calculated.
On the other hand, Naruto watched the exchange between the guy and his clone carefully, analyzing his movements. As the guy focused on the third clone, Naruto saw an opportunity and lunged forward with surprising speed, aiming a precise strike at his vulnerable side.
The guy was able to defeat the third clone but was caught off guard by Naruto, the guy grunted as the blow connected, knocking him off balance. He stumbled backward, momentarily disoriented. Naruto wasted no time and pressed the advantage, launching a barrage of rapid punches and kicks. Despite the guy's efforts to block most of the attacks, some still landed, causing him to grunt in pain as they struck his arms and torso.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, the guy knew he had to get more serious. With a determined glint in his eyes, he focused his mind and body, honing his senses to the rhythm of the fight.
As the third clone continued its assault, the guy spotted an opening. With lightning reflexes, he grabbed the clone's incoming arm, narrowly avoiding a punch, but the clone swiftly swung its other arm. Reacting instinctively, the guy caught that arm too, locking both of the clone's arms in his grasp.
With the clone momentarily off balance, the guy seized the opportunity. He surged forward and delivered a powerful headbutt, causing the clone to stagger backward, dazed and disoriented.
Not wasting a moment, the guy closed the distance between them and grabbed Naruto by his throat with one hand, exerting pressure to restrict its airflow. With a swift, decisive motion, he pinned Naruto against a nearby wooden fence, the impact creating a loud thud that reverberated through the air.
"Naruto!" Ino exclaimed in an alarmed tone, her eyes widening in shock as she watched the scene unfold.
Ignoring her, Naruto gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on the guy's arm, determination burning in his eyes.
"Not so tough now, are you?..." the guy taunted, a smirk playing on his lips. But Naruto remained silent, his expression unreadable.
"Anything you wanna say?..." the guy challenged, his voice dripping with disdain.
Suddenly, without warning, Naruto spat at the guy's face. The unexpected action took everyone by surprise, including Sasuke, who had been silently observing from his vantage point in the tree.
In Ino's mind: "What the hell are you doing, Naruto?!..."
"There... Now wipe your face and remove that horrendous makeup and see that ugly mug of yours..." Naruto retorted, his voice filled with defiance.
The guy's eyes narrowed dangerously, his anger boiling over. "Oh... You're gonna regret that, punk..." he seethed, reaching for a kunai with intent to harm Naruto.
But before he could make a move, a tiny rock came hurtling through the air, knocking the kunai out of the guy's hand with surprising accuracy. And then suddenly another rock hit his arm which was pinning Naruto against the fence.
The guy flinched, involuntarily releasing his hold on Naruto as he recoiled from the unexpected pain. He glanced down at his bleeding arm, realizing that he had been nicked by the jagged surface of the tiny rock.
Searching for the source of the projectile, he looked around, his eyes scanning the area until they landed on a figure perched on a tree branch above them.
"Save that for the exams..." Sasuke's voice rang out, his tone calm but firm, as he juggled another rock with one hand.
The sudden appearance of Sasuke caught everyone by surprise. Ino, Naruto, and the others on the ground turned their attention upward, their eyes widening in astonishment as they recognized the lone Uchiha standing confidently on the tree branch.
In Ino's mind: "S-Sasuke-kun?..."
In the girl's mind: "He's pretty cute..."
"Tchh... Another punk to tick me off..." the guy muttered, nursing his wounded arm with a scowl.
"Get lost..." Sasuke replied icily, his gaze unwavering as he clenched his fist tightly, causing the rock he had juggled to crumble into dust.
"Oi! Come down here, you little punk! You're the kind of smart aleck little punk that I despise the most," the guy growled, his frustration evident.
"Wait! You aren't thinking of using Karasu, are you?!" the girl beside him warned, her voice tinged with concern.
Ignoring her, the guy placed the object strapped to his back earlier on the ground with a resounding thud.
"Kankuro... What do you think you're doing..." another voice interjected, surprising Sasuke.
Sasuke's eyes darted around, searching for the source of the new voice. He was taken aback to realize that someone else had approached, seemingly out of nowhere. The tension in the air grew thicker as the situation took an unexpected turn, leaving everyone on edge.
In Sasuke's mind: "Huh?..."
- (Naruto OST: Gaara's Theme) -
The sudden appearance of another individual caught the attention of everyone present. Hanging upside down from the bottom of a nearby tree branch was a kid with red hair, his presence and words drawing immediate focus.
"You're an embarrassment to our village..." the red-haired kid's voice cut through the tension, his words harsh and uncompromising.
The surprising severity of his statement left everyone momentarily stunned. Then, in an instant, the demeanor of the guy in black changed, his previously menacing presence now replaced with fear and anxiety.
"G-Gaara..." Kankuro's voice trembled as he addressed his brother, his expression reflecting a mix of fear and concern.
In Sasuke's mind: "When did he get next to me?... I didn't even hear him..."
The red-haired kid, Gaara, turned his attention towards Sasuke, but remained silent, his piercing gaze assessing the Uchiha with an intensity that sent a shiver down Sasuke's spine. After a moment, Gaara redirected his focus back to Kankuro once more.
"Why do you think we came all the way here to Konoha?" Gaara's voice was calm, but there was an underlying edge of menace.
"G-Gaara... Listen to me, alright?" Kankuro pleaded, his voice wavering slightly.
"They lashed out first..." Kankuro lied, attempting to justify their actions.
"Shut up!" Gaara's voice cut through the air like a blade, his cold stare sending a chill down Kankuro's spine.
"I'll kill you," Gaara's voice was low, a dangerous edge to his words.
"Y-You're right... I was wrong..." Kankuro faltered, his fear palpable as he backed away.
"I-I'm sorry... I'm really sorry..." Kankuro continued, his voice trembling with fear. But Gaara remained silent, his attention now focused on Sasuke, who watched the scene unfold from his perch on another branch.
"I'm sorry about that..." Gaara apologized on Kankuro's behalf, his tone surprisingly genuine despite the tension that still lingered in the air.
In Sasuke's mind: "This guy... He has a nasty look..."
In Gaara's mind: "To think he was able to hit Kankuro with a tiny rock twice with great ease...
"You there... The one hiding in the other tree, I apologize on his behalf..." Gaara said whilst staring at an unsuspecting tree branch
In Naruto's mind: "How'd he know I was in here?..."
As everyone turned their attention to where Gaara was looking, the leaves of the tree branch rustled, adding to the suspense that hung in the air like a thick fog.
Then, in a dramatic twist, the "Naruto" beside Kankuro dispersed into a cloud of smoke, leaving behind only wisps of illusion in its wake. The sudden revelation sent shockwaves through the group, their eyes widening in surprise as they realized they had been deceived.
Moments later, the real Naruto revealed himself, gracefully descending from the tree branch. His presence brought a sense of clarity to the chaotic scene
As Naruto's eyes met with Gaara's, a wave of unease washed over him, sending a shiver down his spine. There was something about Gaara's intense gaze that stirred a sense of familiarity within Naruto, yet he couldn't quite place what it was.
In Sasuke's mind: "Naruto?...How the hell did he get there?..."
In Ino's mind: "N-Naruto?... H-How?..."
In Kankuro's mind: "All this time, I was fighting a clone?..."
In Gaara's mind: "Deceiving Kankuro with clones... This guy's good..."
Suddenly, Gaara was surrounded by swirling sand, the grains dancing around him in a mesmerizing display of power. The sand then descended and floated near the ground, carrying Gaara with it as he reappeared on solid ground.
"Let's go," Gaara commanded with authority, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife. "We didn't come here to play around..." he added, his gaze steely and unwavering.
"I know..." Kankuro replied solemnly, falling into step beside his brother as they began to walk away.
"Hey! You there... What's your name?..." Sasuke called out, his voice breaking through the fading echoes of the confrontation.
"H-Huh?... M-Me?..." the sandy blonde girl stammered, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
"Not you... The gourd next to you..." Sasuke clarified, his tone cold and indifferent.
Disappointed, the girl stepped back, her eyes downcast as she realized she wasn't the one being addressed.
The red-haired kid, Gaara, stopped in his tracks and turned to face Sasuke. "Sabaku no Gaara," he replied, his voice calm yet commanding.
Sasuke's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of curiosity flickering in his gaze. "I have an interest in you as well... What's your name?" he asked, his voice firm and direct.
"Uchiha Sasuke,"
"And you... I could say the same to you, your name?" Gaara inquired, turning his attention to Naruto.
"Uzumaki Naruto,"
- Somewhere -
"What do you think?" a guy asked his comrade, who was sitting on the tree branch, observing the scene from afar.
"I don't think they're anything special. But the black-haired, the blonde, and the gourd... Those three need to be checked," his comrade replied, his tone serious and contemplative.
- Later -
Shino, Ino, and Naruto could be seen sitting on a bench near the academy, awaiting the arrival of their sensei, Asuma. They had been ordered to meet him there, as he would be giving them something in preparation for the upcoming exams.
"Who were those guys?..." Ino wondered aloud, breaking the silence that hung over the group.
"Based on our encounter earlier, the guy with the red hair was Gaara, and the guy that Naruto fought was Kankuro. As for the girl with blonde hair, I do not know her name..." Shino offered, his voice calm and measured as always.
Ino noticed Naruto's uncharacteristic silence and grew concerned. "You're awfully quiet, Naruto... You alright?..." she asked, her voice laced with genuine concern.
Naruto seemed to snap out of his trance at her words. "Huh? What was that, Ino?..." he responded; his tone slightly distracted.
"Maybe you ARE going deaf, Naruto... I said... Are you alright?..." Ino repeated herself, her concern deepening.
"Oh... Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about it-ttebayo!" Naruto reassured her with a foxy grin, trying to brush off her concerns.
Ino remained skeptical but decided to drop the subject altogether, sensing that Naruto might not want to talk about it further.
Moments later, Asuma arrived, greeting them with a casual "Yo," as he walked towards them, cigarette in hand.
"In the other direction, Asuma-sensei," Ino reminded him, gesturing for him to blow his smoke away from them. Asuma rolled his eyes and obliged, taking another puff before retrieving three scrolls from his pouch and distributing them to each of them.
"One for you," Asuma said, handing a scroll to Shino.
"And you," he continued, passing another to Ino.
"And uhhh..." Asuma trailed off, momentarily forgetting Naruto's name.
"Real funny, Asuma-sensei..." Naruto deadpanned, unamused by the teasing.
"Oh, right! One for- Wait a minute... You're not Naruto... Aren't you Moroto?... Uchimaki Moroto?..." Asuma teased, trying to rile up his student.
Naruto simply snatched the scroll from his sensei's hands, not in the mood for banter.
"Enough messing around," Asuma said, regaining his composure. "That right there is your approved registration form. Keep it safe until then, because the proctors will be asking for it before letting you in... So don't lose it," he reminded them, his tone serious and authoritative.
- (Approved Registration Form) -
Name: Uzumaki Naruto
Ninja Registration ID (NRID): 012607
Village: Konohagkure no Sato
Approved by: Sarutobi Hiruzen
"Anyway, come to Room 301 at 3:00 PM, two days from now... Got it?..." Asuma instructed, his tone firm and commanding.
The three of them nodded in understanding.
"Good... Don't be late," Asuma warned sternly before disappearing with a shunshin (body flicker), leaving behind only the lingering scent of his cigarette smoke.
As they watched their sensei vanish, a sense of determination settled over Shino, Ino, and Naruto. With the Chunin Exams fast approaching, they knew they had to be fully prepared for whatever challenges lay ahead.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN NARUTO (AYO?! DOUBLE FEATURE?!)
Ch.66B - The Notion of Preparation
- Shino's Room -
The room was spacious, with clean lines and minimalist décor, devoid of unnecessary clutter.
The walls were adorned with scrolls featuring intricate insect designs, showcasing Shino's deep connection to his clan's bug-based techniques. A subtle earthy color palette dominated the room, creating a sense of warmth and tranquility.
In one corner, there was a large wooden shelf meticulously organized with various jars and containers, each housing different species of insects. The soft hum of their buzzing added a soothing ambiance to the room, though to the uninitiated, it might have seemed somewhat eerie.
A sturdy wooden desk occupied another corner, littered with scrolls, books, and research notes. Here was where Shino delved into the mysteries of entomology, studying insect behavior and anatomy with unwavering focus.
At the center of the room sat a low table surrounded by comfortable floor cushions, where Shino sat cross-legged, his attention fully absorbed in the task at hand. Shino meticulously arranged his tools on the polished surface of his desk. With methodical precision, he placed the sleek kunai, a gift from Kunijiro, a past client of their team, at the forefront, as well as some spare kunais just in case.
Next to the kunais, he carefully positioned a roll of explosive tags, their intricate markings a testament to their destructive potential. Shurikens gleamed softly nearby, their razor-sharp edges honed to perfection, ready to be unleashed with deadly accuracy when the need arose.
Beside them, a cluster of smoke bombs awaited deployment, their strategic use in creating diversions and concealing movement not lost on Shino's tactical mind as he knew the value of misdirection and stealth
In a small compartment, he placed a pouch containing hyorogans (soldier pills) and zoketsugans (blood increasing pills), their potent effects capable of enhancing his physical abilities in times of dire need.
With the essentials in place, Shino turned his attention to a different task at hand. He retrieved a small mortar and pestle from a nearby shelf and carefully measured out a precise quantity of finely ground herbs and extracts. Mixing them with practiced expertise, he began to form them into small, olive-green pills.
These pills were different from the rest, as they were something that Shino had been working on lately. He decided to put them to the test, knowing from the results of previous experimentation that the pills he made were rather effective and that he hadn't observed any drawbacks or side-effects.
- Ino's House -
Ino sat inside the dimly lit shed behind her house, enveloped in the comforting embrace of shadows. Her face was partially obscured by a protective mask, its surface reflecting the soft glow of the lantern perched nearby. Gloved hands moved with practiced precision, navigating the delicate dance of crafting lethal toxins and life-saving antidotes.
Before her, a makeshift desk served as her workspace, cluttered with an array of glass vials, beakers, and tools borrowed from her father's old lab kit. Ino's brow furrowed in concentration behind the mask as she carefully measured out ingredients, ensuring each mixture was concocted with exacting accuracy.
With methodical care, she laced slender senbons with a potent poison, her gloved fingers deftly maneuvering to coat each one evenly. Beside her, smokebomb casings awaited their deadly payload, ready to be filled with a concoction designed to disorient and incapacitate.
This meticulous preparation wasn't just routine; it was in anticipation of the upcoming Chunin Exams. Ino knew that in the crucible of the exams, she would need every advantage she could muster. Her training had taught her the importance of being prepared for any situation, and she was determined to ensure that she was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
Despite the danger inherent in her creations, Ino remained steadfast in her focus. Alongside her arsenal of toxins, she prepared antidotes and antivenoms, a testament to her unwavering commitment to balance and preparedness.
As she worked, the mask muffled any sound of her breath, adding to the sense of quiet intensity that permeated the shed. Shadows danced across the walls, casting fleeting shapes that seemed to echo the complexities of Ino's own thoughts.
- Naruto's Apartment -
Naruto sat cross-legged on the floor of his tidy apartment, surrounded by the soft glow of overhead lights. A scroll lay spread out before him on the coffee table, illuminated by the warm radiance of the room. Beside it, a bottle of ink and a set of brushes waited patiently for his touch. The borrowed book, "Fuinjutsu: The Art of Sealing - For Beginners," lay open beside him, its pages filled with intricate diagrams and cryptic symbols.
It had been a while since Naruto last delved into the world of sealing techniques, but that night was different. That night, with the gentle hum of the apartment's lighting providing a comforting backdrop, he was working on something new, something that he hoped would help him and his team navigate the challenges of the upcoming Chunin Exams.
With focused determination, he dipped his brush into the ink, the steady light casting crisp shadows across the scroll as he carefully traced each symbol. Each movement was deliberate, each stroke imbued with purpose as he worked to bring his vision to life.
Beside him, a cup of ramen sat steaming, the comforting aroma filling the air. Naruto paused momentarily, taking a sip and savoring the warmth before returning to his task.
Behind him, casings filled with yuraguhi (flickering flame), lined the floor. They were a constant reminder of his goal—to recreate one of Asuma's signature jutsus, the Katon: Haisekisho (Fire Release: Ash Pile Burning). Naruto had been inspired by his sensei's skill and had spent quite some time in practicing and refining his own version of the technique.
As he worked, the light danced across the room, casting shifting patterns on the walls and floor. Naruto paid them little mind, his focus unwavering as he poured his heart and soul into his craft.
Despite the lateness of the hour, he felt a sense of purpose settle over him. In this moment, surrounded by the familiar comforts of home and fueled by his determination, he knew that anything was possible. And with each brushstroke, each carefully crafted seal, he drew closer to realizing his goal of succeeding in the Chunin Exams.
(A/N: Would you look at that? This time Gaara's interested in learning Naruto's name as well unlike in canon haha! By the way, if you're wondering how Naruto got there well... He was on the ground and performing the shadow clone jutsu, which creates smoke right. He made 4, 3 clones and 1 to pretend as him. He used more chakra to make them more durable. And while that was happening, he got out of there and waited for the time to strike as a surprise attack. Plus, are you feeling it? Cuz I'm feeling it, ngl? I'm feeling hyped for the exams hahaha. Anyway, that's all haha. Hope y'all liked this one, love y'all, take care and cheers! ^^)
