Anyways, hope you enjoy this much awaited chapter and tell me what you think of it. On to the story!
Chapter 9: Kevin 11
Here we see the Junkyard, where Double D is setting up what seems to be an obstacle course, made out of planks, cans, used tires and more junk that was around. As he completes the final touches, he hears footsteps behind and turns his head to see his two friends, Eddy and Ed, as well as the latter's bratty sister Sarah, who had recently joined their team.
"Hiya Double D!" Ed happily saluted per usual.
"Hey Dreamboat~" Sarah sang in a sweet tone, which unnerved Double D a bit.
"Morning Sockhead…" Eddy said in a grumpier tone, clearly not used to neither getting up so early nor having Sarah around for their training sessions.
"Good morning, gentlemen… and lady" Double D added after a disgruntling cough from Sarah, also not being used to her being on the team yet. "If I may ask, what took you so long?" he asked, having been expecting them to arrive early to help building the obstacle course, as accorded.
"Well, we would have arrived earlier if SOMEONE hadn't waste so much time looking for her stupid hairclip, all just to 'impress' you…" Eddy commented while looking and clearly digging at Sarah, who had red rose hairclip on her head.
"Shut it, Fish Face! Some of us actually care about our fashion, not that you would know about any of course…" Sarah angrily remarked at him before turning to look back at Double D. "Do you like my hairclip, Double D?" she asked in a nicer, calmer tone while blushing slightly.
"Oh, um… I-It is v-very nice, S-Sarah…" Double D stuttered, while blushing more notoriously, while Eddy rolled his eyes at their antics before stepping forward.
"You guys are gonna make me puke…" he casually muttered, causing Sarah to glare at him and Double D to blush even more. "And why did you insist on coming here anyways, Sarah? We're just going to train up my aliens, not fighting bad guys or anything fancy to see" he questioned her.
"Because, Fathead, when I said I wanted to be part of the team, I meant I want to be part of EVERYTHING you guys do" Sarah stated, matter-of-factly. "And besides, I don't have anything better to do, Jimmy's parents sent him to live with his uncles at Vancouver for the rest of the summer, at least until things 'get back to normal' around here…" she explained. Poor Jimmy, first he'd been put back on therapy after an awful incident with a strange looking frog and a squirrel, and then he spent a day wrapped up inside a magic tree until he was rescued by some firefighters.
Now it was Eddy's time to get nervous as his eyes shot open and realized that if Sarah somehow found the truth about a certain 'frog', well… things could turn VERY ugly VERY soon. "Oh, uhhh… yes, poor Jimbo! I swear these things couldn't happen to a nicer guy…" he said nervously and started sweating bullets. "Aaaanyways, how about we start with the training?" he quickly tried to change the subject.
"Ahem, yes, very well Eddy…" Double said, deciding it was for the better to drop that case. "I've spent the better part of the weekend designing this obstacle course, with different traps and obstacles to test all of your aliens" he explained.
"A-All of them…?" Eddy asked as he nervously glanced at the unsuspecting Sarah, while keeping a decent but sweaty poker face.
"Well, most of them anyway" Double D corrected as although he didn't approve of Eddy's little 'prank' on Jimmy, he knew that he only intended to protect his secret identity at the time and the squirrel was his best chance of escape, that and also Eddy couldn't help anyone if Sarah turned him into dog meat. "Shall we begin?" he asked.
"You bet!" Eddy exclaimed just as he finished asking, already popping up the watch's core and dialing the faceplate to select an alien, FAR away from Grey Matter so as not to transform into him accidentally in front of Sarah. He prayed to the Kings and Souls of the sky that never happens and she doesn't find out…
He proceeded to press down the core and transform, a blinding green light enveloping him and diamonds starting to cover his body as it grew on size, his eyes turning into a yellow color and pupils disappearing. When the light faded, Diamondhead stood in Eddy's place.
"Wow!" Sarah exclaimed as she opened her eyes after the light died down, having never seen Eddy actually transform in front of her before, then immediately recognized that alien, not only from the news but having personally seen him before. "That's the Diamond-man that fought the giant robot at the Cul-da-sac!"
"It's called Diamondhead" he corrected, then smirked. "Now would be a good time to thank me for saving everyone's butts that time…"
Sarah rolled her eyes at this. "Whatever, we already did it anyways… Stuck-up…" she muttered the last part.
"Remember to think out there, Eddy. Don't just try to muscle it, might isn't always right" Double D explained to him.
"I know, but it's always fun" Diamondhead joked.
Double D sighed profoundly at his friend's stubbornness and got to the junk-made control panels. "Ready Ed?"
"Oh boy, oh boy!" the taller boy bounced excitedly, ready to spectate the awesome show that is about to happen. Sarah just snorted at her brother's antics and moved aside to watch, not wanting to be accidentally struck by a diamond or anything.
"Eddy?" Double D asked his friend.
"Ready as you are, Sockhead" Diamondhead responded, as he turned both his hands into spiky blades, ready to shoot crystal shards at anything. Double D pulled from a handle tied to a rope on the controls, which sent various tin cans popping out from a handmade catapult flying at Diamondhead, who quickly spun around and shot some crystal shards that pierced right through the cans mid-air and sent them to the ground. He did so a couple more times as Double D sent more cans from different directions to test his aim and reflexes. "Oh yeah!" the diamond-made alien exclaimed.
"So cool!" Ed cheered from the sidelines, Sarah standing next to him and not saying anything as she didn't want to admit her brother was kinda right. Diamondhead continued to shoot at cans and targets that popped up, until time was up and he reverted back to Eddy.
After that, they had to wait for around five minutes before the watch turned green again, then Eddy transformed into Stinkfly to practice his flying skills, flying through some bars maze that Double D created while dodging swinging tires and shooting slime balls at nearby targets. He displayed pretty good abilities by dodging all bars and tires and hitting every target with a slime ball, though Sarah was more concerned with the stench and slime Stinkfly generated.
"Ugh, this alien is more disgusting than you, Ed…" she told her brother, before seeing him munching on a gravy sandwich he packed for lunch. "…never mind" she quickly corrected herself.
Next Eddy turned himself into Upgrade and merged with a broken lawnmower that was around, turning it black with yellow stripes and his single circle eye at the front. The Upgraded-mower started to run through the obstacle course, creating spikes made of a bright yellow energy to destroy trash cans and targets at his sides, and also shooting some yellow laser beams from his eye to destroy incoming tires and tins.
Afterwards, they decided to take a short break as it was lunch time, even if Ed had already eaten his gravy sandwich. The team were eating their own sandwiches while Eddy was thinking about which alien should he practice with next. Of course Grey Matter was out of question for MANY reasons, less more his inability for combat than the fact Sarah would squash him if she found out, and so was Ripjaws since they weren't close to any body of water. He also didn't want to spend more time than necessary as Ghostfreak since it always felt a bit too weird for comfort. That left him with XLR8, Heatblast, Four Arms and Wild- "AAAAAAHHHHHH!" a scream suddenly interrupted his thoughts.
"What was that?" Eddy asked alarmed.
"Dad's home!" Ed cried, causing his friends to look at him with concern and his sister to facepalm at his stupidity.
"Of course no, you idiot! We're not even close home!" she exclaimed exasperated. "That came from over there!" she pointed over a mountain of garbage. They all climbed it up and peaked over to see, much to the Eds' worries, three familiar figures in the distance: The Kanker Sisters.
"KANKERS!" The Eds exclaimed almost instinctively and ducked under the garbage mountain upon seeing them, with Ed pulling Sarah down by her leg so the Kankers wouldn't see her either, after all they were probably still quite mad about the whole lucky charm situation not so long ago.
"Hey, did you heard that?" May asked, having heard the screams in the distance that sounded quite familiar, though she couldn't make what they were.
"Beats me, some junkyard rat or something" Lee shrugged it off and the trio returned to what they were doing, while the Eds sighed in relief at not being discovered.
"What are they doing here?! I thought you said no one comes around here today, Sockhead!" Eddy whispered, though his voice was so alarmed and naturally loud that sounded like a regular person's voice level.
"Well Eddy, according to what I've analyzed," Double D nervously began flipping pages from the back of his notebook, "Rolf never has reasons to come here, neither does Nazz, Jimmy's away for the time being but he also doesn't come here unless dragged by Sarah…" he pointed over to the aforementioned girl before continuing, "…whose here with us anyways, Jonny comes here very rarely, but mostly on Mondays and Fridays…"
"You took notes of all that?" Sarah asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Um, well… we do have to be very careful when training, to protect Eddy's secret" Double D casually explained to her, having not realized until now how very stalkerish taking notes of when everyone came to the Junkyard sounded.
"Focus, Sockhead! What about the Kankers?" Eddy questioned.
"Um, right…" Double D looked over some more pages, and also moved the notes slightly out of Sarah's view so she wouldn't read everything he wrote, before founding what he was looking for. "Oh, yes, the Kankers come here only on Thursday and Sundays, but only for an hour or so until they get bored and leave" he finished noting.
"But today's Saturday" Sarah said. Then they heard the Kankers laugh again, before they heard another person screaming, sounding like the scream they'd heard before, which also sounded a lot like…
"Look, it's Kevin!" Ed pointed out to, in fact, a kid who wore a long-sleeved lime green shirt, black shorts/shoes and a red baseball hat with a black peak backwards, and has light peach skin, light green eyes, and orange/brown hair strands coming out the front of his cap… that was Kevin, Cul-de-sac resident jock, "Leader", the cool kid… tied to a truck tire. "Think he comes here often?"
"Actually Ed…" Double D read his notes again. "Kevin comes here for bicycle parts around 9:27AM to 19:53PM. Of course! I didn't count on we running late on time!" he realized.
"The Kankers must have seen him coming and followed him!" Sarah deduced.
"And I'm Ed!" Ed added.
"And they got him now…" Eddy muttered before bursting into laughter. "Hahahahaha! This outta be good!" he laughed, causing both Double D and Sarah to glare at him.
"Really Eddy?" the smartest Ed asked in disapproval.
"You're actually enjoying this, aren't you?" the brash mouth girl questioned.
"Oh no! I've seen this before… they're gonna suck the life f-!" Ed began to exclaim loudly and so both his sister and the other two Eds jumped onto him and put their hands on his mouth to shut him up while also pulling him down to narrowly avoid being seen by the Kankers.
"And what was that?" May asked, pretty sure she'd heard something again, and it wasn't a rat like her sister had claimed.
"Stop being a chicken May!" her other sister Marie teased, before turning their attention back to the struggling Kevin.
"Just let me go man! I was just looking for spare parts for my bike!" he shouted while trying to break free of his restraint, but they were tied too tightly.
"Yeah, don't think so though guy" Lee said as she stepped right next to him. "We've had some bad luck for quite some time now, and we needed something to entertain us, and you came right to us. Am I right girls?" she asked her sisters, who giggled deviously in confirmation, much to Kevin's dismay.
"He ain't no Ed, but he'll do!" May told her sisters.
"Ya got that right" Marie said in agreement.
As for Kevin, while the odds were NOT in his favor, he just had to talk back at them. "The spinning tire again, really?" Kevin asked. "Even those dorks are more original than y'all!"
"…that might be the closest thing to a compliment Kevin ever said about us" Eddy muttered to Double D.
But that did not phase the Kankers at all, as they just laughed it off. "Well what can we say, if it ain't broken…" Lee said as she turned her attention to her sisters, who began chanting at the same time. "Spin! Spin! Spin! Spin it to win it!"
"…DOOOON'T FIX IT!" Lee said as she spun the tire hard, along with the tied up Kevin. "Now for over 9000 points, who is the prettiest of them all? Me, May, or Marie? Answer wisely…" she teased and threatened the spinning Kevin.
Meanwhile back at the garbage mountain, Eddy could barely contain his laugh, as tears came from his eyes. "Answer right Shovel-chin, or you're gonna get the spin, ...hey that rhymed!"
"Come on, Eddy! That's enough!" Double D chimed in.
"Yeah, if you're the hero you say you are, go help out Kevin!" Sarah demanded.
"Oh, please, I save people from burning buildings or robot aliens or some freaks, this ain't something for me to go alien" Eddy brushed it off, while Kevin continued being spin around.
"Thiiiiissss iiiiissssss ssssstttttuuuuupppiiiiiiiiiiiiiidddddd aaaaaaaaaaannnnnndddddd uuuuunnnnoooorrrrrrrriiiiiiigiiiiiinnnnnaaaaaalllllllll!" Kevin said as he kept spinning, and if he didn't stop soon, his lunch was gonna go out the front door.
"EEEEHHH! WRONG ANSWER!" the Kankers said in unison as they laughed evilly. Then, Lee put her foot out and stopped the tire, with Kevin a bit dizzy, but at least not upside down as last time.
"Those stupid broads…worse than the Eds I swear, sheesh" Kevin muttered under his breath, however that didn't go unnoticed by Lee, as she smiled wickedly.
"Say girls, he got the wrong answer, you know what that means?" she asked her sisters, who looked at each other for a second, confused, before looking at their sister.
"It means it's punishment time!" Lee said as she pulled a red lipstick from her pants pockets. "By smooching!"
May and Marie's eyes widened for a second before they all joined in a trio of evil laughter, much to Kevin's horror.
"NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Kevin shouted as he struggled once again to break free, but of no avail. He imagined his first kiss with someone like Nazz, but NOT those broads!
THAT is when Eddy stopped his giggling and had a solemn serious look in his face. "Gotta do something!" he decided suddenly.
"Oh, now you're gonna help?" Sarah questioned.
"You wouldn't understand, brat. You don't know what's like to be… kissed by those witches!" Eddy said with disgust, his face frowning as he remembered all those occasions where he and his pals suffered that horrible fate. "No one, and I mean NO ONE, deserves that… not even Kevin!" he declared.
For as much of a jerk as Kevin was, Eddy considered himself (and the only one on the whole planet) a player who got game when it came to the game of love (NOT), but he could never force himself on someone else, unlike those stupid Kankers, he had STANDARDS and MORALS for crying out loud! Besides, he was a hero now, that would be just below him. He then activated the watch and switched between transformations, before deciding on the alien he wanted to use.
"As much as I agree with you on that Eddy, need I remind you not to hurt them? I mean for all their bad habits of forcing themselves on us, the Kankers are not villains…" Double D told him, before adding "…at least not like the ones we usually fight."
"Don't worry, Sockhead…" Eddy assured before slamming the watch, a green light enveloping him as he transformed, then faded to reveal XLR8. "But I always wanted to deal with the Kankers like this!" the speedster alien declared before rushing in a blur to where the Kankers were.
Meanwhile, the Kankers just finished their laughing as Lee prepared to put on some lipstick before a strange sound was heard, which once again got May's attention.
"Okay, I'm definitely sure I heard something this time, and I don't like whatever it is…" May said as she sensed something bad is gonna happen, and in a strange way, it felt like karma was coming after them.
"Don't be a wussy, May! We got a man to tend to…" Lee ordered as she put some lipstick on…. or so she thought, as the lipstick from her hands was gone! But she didn't get it, she had it, she felt it in her hand just a second ago! "What the?!"
Her sisters were just as shocked and confused as her, even Kevin but all their questions were answered when a raspy voice spoke "Looking for this?"
All their attention was got when they looked to see a… blue bicyclist looking-dinosaur in front of them, with narrowed green eyes and a frowned look, holding Lee's lipstick in one of his claw lands… only to snap it to pieces with his claws. "Sorry, NOT sorry…"
While shocked at first, the Kankers soon regained their composures, while Kevin looked in wonder at the creature.
"Little early for Halloween, ain't it dude?" Marie asked as she looked at the freak.
"Beat it, yappy dino-jogger! This ain't none of ya business!" Lee said angrily at the moron who destroyed her favorite lipstick, she stol-got it from her Mom!
"The name is XLR8, witch" XLR8 told them, that's when both May and Kevin were hit by a sudden realization.
"He is one of the alien heroes!' Kevin thought while May said out loud, which surprised Marie and Lee.
"Got that right" XLR8 said with a sly smirk. "I've been hanging around, training and that kinda stuff, when suddenly, I hear witchcraft and the screams of the innocent, and I thought, why not investigate? It's my job after all. Besides…" XLR8s sly smirk soon returned into a scowling frown, which made the Kankers take a step back. They heard on the news how these alien guys took down big criminals and some super freaks, even the giant robot that attacked the Cul-de-sac nearby their trailer park. Long story short, those guys were serious business. "…This, uh, meeting of ours… it's quite PERSONAL."
"We ain't done nothin' to ya, or anything you can prove, freak" Lee told the blue alien, who stood there like a statue. A very pissed off statue.
"You see, that's where you're wrong, giant beehive for a haircut" XLR8 taunted Lee, who gritted her un-brushed teeth in anger. "Here's a little bit of advice, when you mess with one of our alien friends, you mess with ALL of our friends…" he stated, giving just vague implications in case Sarah was at ear range.
Whether she heard or understood what implied he didn't know, however by the looks of their faces, he could that neither did the Kankers, or Kevin for obvious reasons, as they all looked quite confused.
"What do you mean by 'all of our friends'?" Marie wondered.
However, realization seemed to finally struck one of the Kankers, and surprisingly the less bright of the three, as May's eyes widened. "Of course! That weird fro-!" she began to exclaim, however XLR8's eyes widened this time and his visor went down as he charged at the buck-toothed girl, grabbing her and throwing her into a nearby garbage pile before she could finish that sentence that would clearly expose him if Sarah heard.
This didn't sit out well with the other two Kankers, who both shouted "MAY!" in concern of their youngest sibling.
"You've done it now, freak!" Lee angrily declared.
"Yeah, no one's hurting our sister but us!" Marie said as she grabbed a broken pipe and began batting it on her open palm, ready to smack the heck out of this freak for daring touch her sister.
Both Kankers got ready for a fight, it didn't matter if you were an alien hero or whatever, you just did NOT touch one of them. They charged at the black and blue alien, however XLR8 disappeared in another blur, moving faster than a speeding bullet and dodging when Marie swung at him with her pipe, then dodging Lee's incoming punches and kicks, running all around them before coming in from one side and taking the broken pipe out of Marie's hands to disarm her, then returning from the other to swat her off her feet, and finally coming a third time to take her away and tossing her right next to May, now both in the garbage pile.
While Kevin thanked whoever was up there for bringing him his savior, Lee slowly started backing off from her spot. "T-This can't be!" the red-haired sister exclaimed as she watched what seemed to her like a black and blue blur make Marie disappear from her spot and toss her over to where May was at the garbage pile. That freak was just toying with them!
Speaking of said freak, the blur came speeding only to stop in front of her, him looking menacingly despite that visor covering his face. "B-Back off f-freak!" Lee exclaimed, though she was the one to do so instead. It was a rare instance for Lee, as for the first time ever since her 'boyfriend' and his friends had pretended to be obsessed with them the same way the girls were, she actually felt scared!
She looked around frantically as the alien disappeared in a blur once more, with her throwing a fist at the air in a vain attempt to hit him, all for nothing as the freak was nowhere to be seen. Had he actually lef-?
Her thoughts where interrupted when the speeding blur returned and began to ran circles around her at an incredible speed, so much so that it created a small tornado, with Lee caught inside and being lifted up into the air while screaming. But it didn't last long as XLR8 soon stopped in his tracks, and waited for Lee to fall, but before she could hit the ground, XLR8 used his tail to swipe her away into her other two sisters at the garbage pile, knocking them over again.
XLR8 speeded right in front of them and opened his visor, giving the Kankers a wicked smile as he spoke. "Trick, or treat?"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" the Kankers screamed their lungs out in fear as they ran in the opposite direction, so fast in fact that May's hair almost left her head as they ran for it.
"That was so awesome dude!" Kevin praised his savior, glad that he was saved, and that those broads got what they deserved.
"Heh, all in a day's work" XLR8 said with a claw behind the back of his head, it was a bit weird seeing Kevin so friendly, or him being so friendly to Kevin, and not because he was trying to scam him out of his money.
"Uh…could you help me here man? Please?" Kevin asked as he eyed his restraints, which XLR8 looked at for a second before realizing what he meant.
"Oh, uh, right, let me at them." XLR8 said.
"Be my guest" Kevin said as he watched XLR8 effortlessly cut the ropes with his spear-claw-hand thingies, freeing him.
"Thanks man, uh, I mean, XLR8, you alien guys rock." Kevin said as he rubbed his wrists. Now these alien dudes were the real deal, unlike those stupid dorks of the Eds.
"Like I said, all in a day's wo—?!" XLR8 cut himself off as he heard the beeping sounds and saw the watch turning red on and off, which did not go unnoticed by Kevin. "Uh—Uh…duty calls, emergency alert, sorry but gotta go. Uh, see ya around Kevin!" XLR8 quickly lied as his visor went down and ran as fast as he could from the scene, leaving Kevin all alone.
"Uh…sure dude, see ya!" Kevin called out, but the alien was long gone. He then turned around and started walking to where his bike was, he hoped those Kanker girls didn't break…it…
Wait…
…. he…never said his name…. neither did the Kankers….
"…. How did he know my name?" Kevin said with widened eyes… something didn't add up, but at the same time, something…. he didn't know what, but something… started to make… sense?
"Meh…" he simply shrugged and started walking back home. Geez, what a day… all he wanted to do was get some spare parts for- Oh that's right! With all that happened, he forgot to get some parts for his bike before those broads had jumped him!
It took him a while to get back to the Junkyard, but when he did begin to collect some parts, he suddenly heard a loud explosion sound which made him drop the tube he was holding and look upwards, thinking a bomb had suddenly hit the ground or something, seeing smoke coming from behind a garbage mountain.
"What the-?" Kevin wondered before another loud explosion was heard, which caused him to shake and cut him midsentence. He decided to drop the bike parts and go see what that was, in a case a fire was being started or something and he should call emergencies. He peaked over the mountain and what he saw next left him a gasp.
There was another of those alien heroes standing there, the one seemingly made of fire, Kevin had never seen him personally but he'd seen it a couple of times in the news. He was creating small fireballs from his hands and shooting it at targets, which were cardboard cuts that oddly resembled some aliens from a weird comic book or something, hence the explosions and smoke.
He then stood in front of what seemed to be an odd monster made out of a trashcan over a box as its base, all complete with weird eyes made out of different bulb lights and two rakes working as its arms that moved up and down in seemingly automatic fashion. The fire alien then lifted up his hands to create a giant fireball that he proceeded to throw at the 'monster', blowing it into pieces, much to Kevin's amusement. However, what he heard next surprised him even more.
"Eddy! Did you have to damage it so much? It took me a lot of effort to repair that thing!" an all too familiar voice exclaimed, and to Kevin's utter shock, Double D walked up to the alien.
"Heh, sorry Sockhead. Guess I'm too hot to handle…" the fire alien joked. Kevin's jaw almost hit the ground in disbelief. How come one of those dorks was talking and hanging with one of the alien heroes? It seemed like they even knew each other…
"Hahaha! Sick burn, Eddy!" another familiar voice said, then Kevin saw the tallest of the dorks also approaching them.
"Meh, I'm just surprised you didn't start a fire or something…" a less enthusiastic yet still familiar voice commented, and Kevin realized it was Sarah, that dork's unbearable sister who he mostly hangs with just because his other pals Nazz and Rolf like her for some inexplicably reason.
"Oh, please. I'm too good for that!" the alien exclaimed, though he looked aside, not wanting to remember that he HAD actually caused a fire when he went alien for the first time. Of course Kevin had no idea he was thinking that, as he had no tell of the events, but that last part was the lesser thing he didn't understood right now.
Why were those DORKS hanging out with an alien? HOW come they knew him? And WHY was Sarah with them too? Everyone in the Cul-da-sac knew that she couldn't stand her brother, much less his dorky friends… wait a minute. Dorky? Where was the leader of the dorks himself? Where was Eddy? In that moment, realization hit upon Kevin, as he recalled what they all had called that alien. They called him… no way, NO FREAKING WAY.
"D-Dorky?!" Kevin exclaimed despite himself, as he was just too bewildered to realize he'd blown up his cover and now everyone was looking at him, in almost as much surprise as he was looking back at them in fact.
"Hey guys, look! It's Kevin!" Ed said and waved happily at him, totally oblivious to the situation.
"K-Kevin?!" Double D also exclaimed nervously.
"This is not good…" Sarah muttered.
The fire alien, which of course was known as Heatblast, was actually the most surprised out of everyone, as he couldn't even mutter a word, his rocky-face expression being the only indicator of his astonishment. Then, and as if just on cue to make everything worse, the hourglass symbol on his chest started beeping before a red light covered him and he finally found the right words to say.
Kevin closed his eyes due to the blinding light appearing suddenly and, when he opened them again, his suspicions were confirmed as instead of the fiery rocky alien, Eddy stood in his place. "Oh crap…" he heard him mutter.
"D-D-Dork?! Y-You're that fire alien?" Kevin exclaimed, unable to believe what he'd just seen.
"Uh-ummm… I-uh…" Eddy tried to come up with something, ANYTHING that could cover this up but, despite his natural talent of lying, he just couldn't think of anything. Kevin KNEW. His worst rival KNEW his biggest secret! He was doomed! No matter if he had managed to convince Sarah not to spill the beans on him, he just knew there was no way Shovel-chin wouldn't tell at least every of the other kids! And when word got around… He suddenly shivered as he recalled that time when the bug freak had found out his secret identity, as well as where he lived.
"Um… pardon me Kevin, but this is all a big misunderstanding! You see…" Double D quickly interjected, trying to come up with a cover himself. "Eddy here was just testing one of my latest inventions, yes!"
Kevin didn't buy this at all. "Oh really? And why is Sarah hanging out with you then? I thought she hated you, dorks…"
Double D's façade immediately broke upon hearing this, he hadn't thought of a good lie for that. "Um, oh, well…"
"I-I was…" it was now Sarah's turn to try and come up with something. "I was just coming to pick over my dumb brother! ED! Mom says it's dinner time!" she pretended to yell angrily and pulled her brother by the ear.
"AAAAH! But Sarah, we just had lunch! And I still want to see Eddy turn into more aliens!" Ed exclaimed, not realizing he was blowing up their cover.
"ED!" everyone minus Kevin shouted.
"More aliens…?" Kevin muttered, before realizing something else. So that's why that speedy alien knew his name… "Y-You're also that speed guy from before!" he exclaimed. What was his name? Accelerate?
"Actually, it's XLR8, Kevin. X-L-R-8. Clever huh?" Ed of all people explained it to Kevin, which earned a knock on the head from Sarah.
"You dolt!" Sarah said angrily
"W-Wait Kevin! I can explain!" Eddy threw up his hands defensively, and Kevin noticed something he hadn't seen before. The dork's wrist… he had some strange kind of… watch? It was unlike any other watch he'd seen… then, he noticed the strange hourglass symbol and it hit him.
"It's that watch! That's how you turn alien?!" Kevin questioned as any remaining color evaporated from Eddy's face.
"I…" Eddy just couldn't finish a sentence right now.
"That's so… AWESOME!" Kevin exclaimed and his entire demeanor immediately changed.
"It… it is?!" Eddy asked with surprise, not expecting that reaction from him.
"Of course! You're all those awesome aliens from the news!" Kevin said with what appeared to be… glee?! "I bet you're also that diamond-dude who destroyed the giant robot at the Cul-da-sac, right?" he asked and, seeing everyone's silence at the question like they'd been so far, it was a clear indicator he was right. "So cool! You saved our butts back then!"
"I… I did?" Eddy asked again, to which Kevin nodded. "Yeah… I did, didn't I?"
"And you also saved me from those broads, the Kankers. I gotta admit, pal, that was so choice" Kevin complimented to Eddy's, and everyone else's, astonishment.
"It was?" Eddy repeated again, not believing that the cool kid of the Cul-da-sac was being nice to him for once, after years of calling him a dork.
"Say, how about I invite you to my place?" Kevin asked. "Y'know as a thank you gift and all, I could even give you some jawbreakers if you want…" Eddy's face soon turned into a huge grin at the mention of the word 'jawbreakers'. This was all he's ever wanted and more!
"Of course!" he exclaimed, before he and Kevin started walking off.
"Party at Kevin's, yay!" Ed cheered. "Can we go as well?" he asked, but his question fell on deaf ears.
"Wait, Eddy! What about the rest of our training session?" Double D asked.
"Meh, we do that all the time Sockhead, and for what? There's not been a single baddie who's butt I haven't kicked yet!" Eddy stated with a shrug as he dismissed the training and decided to go with Kevin instead.
"But who's going to clean up all this mess?" Double D pointed out at all the remains of the course, as well as some obstacles still around.
"I'm sure you, Lumpy and the brat can take care of it, right?" Eddy simply responded before leaving.
"Oh, you gotta be… are you really leaving us to do the cleaning for you?!" Sarah angrily questioned.
"So, are we going too? Eddy? Where are you going, buddy?" Ed tried to call back as he saw his friend left, to no avail.
At Kevin's house:
Here we see Eddy and Kevin riding on the latter's bike, approaching Kevin's house, which was right next to Eddy's house. The ride was... awkward, for Eddy at least. It was just so strange, walking along with Kevin, and not to get him to his next scam. But he would not let that feeling ruin his chances, as he felt that this was going to be great for him.
"This year's Marathons gonna be awesome! They got this new truck, that can drive around with SPIKES on its tires, and not on the hub of the wheel, but on the tires THEMSELVES! It's gonna rock man, I'm telling ya" Kevin said with excitement as they got to the front door.
"I bet it will be" Eddy said with a bit of fake excitement, he wasn't really a fan of monster trucks, but hey, if it meant getting free jawbreakers, he would watch that marathon for even DAYS, if necessary.
Kevin opened the door, and what Eddy saw surprised him... a lot. Jonny was there too, and Rolf, and Nazz! He never thought they'd be there too, but then remembered Kevin was the 'leader of the pack', if he wanted to do something, they would follow.
"Sup dudes!" Kevin made his presence felt, and the rest of the Cul-de-Sac kids turned their heads to greet him.
"Hey Kev—" Nazz said but stopped mid-sentence.
"Hiya Kevin—Huh?" so did Jonny.
"Hallo, double-wheel unicycle using Kevi—" and so did Rolf.
The reason for that?
The fact that Eddy was right next to him.
"Uh, Kevin..." Nazz began.
"You might have not noticed, but uh..." Jonny continued.
"The hot-headed Ed boy is right next to you, Kevin" and Rolf finished.
Eddy felt a bit insulted, but Kevin shrugged it off and simply said, "I know, I invited him here" which shocked the other three even more.
"Wow! Seriously?" Nazz asked but Jonny butted in and spoke, right after her, which kinda annoyed her a bit, she was there too you know?
"Really?" Jonny asked, and then looked at Plank. "What's that, Plank?" he listened for a few seconds before saying, "Plank asks why have you invited that no-neck loser chump here?"
...Eddy was THIS CLOSE to turning into Heatblast right then and there, and scorch that stupid piece of wood Plank of his, FINALLY getting rid of that annoying, smart mouth comedian. He would've got home away from Jonny quickly as Grey Matter if it wasn't for him—for that thing!
But luckily Kevin was there to ease away any conflict. "Tell your buddy to wash his mouth with soap, Jonny" Kevin said with a bit of authoritative tone. "From now on, Eddy has risen from the rank of a dork to the rank of a cool dude" another round of shocks, especially from Eddy, but Kevin continued. "This dude saved me from those broads of the Kankers, so he gets to hang with us from now on."
With that everyone was surprised, though Rolf was still skeptical. "Are you sure this is wise, Kevin? Need I retell you the story of how the Ed-boys ruined his chances of redemption against the Krakken?"
"More like saved your butt from getting eaten alive. Come on man, you were way out of your league there" Kevin retorted Rolf, who decided to remain silent and accepted what he said.
"Sit there, dude. I'll be back with jawbreakers" Kevin said. After that, he went into the kitchen, while Eddy sat right next to Nazz on the couch.
"Gotta say, that's really cool of you Eddy" Nazz praised Eddy, and unfortunately for him, this time he wasn't transformed into Diamondhead to hide his super red blush and sweaty-ness.
"Well-I-uh-it was nothin-I mean-uh." Eddy stuttered like a mess, which amused Nazz a little and made Jonny and Rolf giggle at his expense.
"Coming in guys!" Kevin said as he turned with 5 Jawbreakers, for each one of them. "Here ya go, dude" Eddy took the Jawbreaker and stared at it a bit, a good chunk of his life he tried to get himself one of those sweet treats with his scams, only to fail miserably, and the very few times he managed to get one, he would try to savor it as much as possible because it meant his victory, and now, he felt the most victorious!
He would've never thought being a hero would pay off so well. After the marathon was over, which Eddy had to admit was quite entertaining, even though he was still not that big of a fan, Kevin surprisingly invited him to go-karting! Which he accepted without a second thought.
Now that was more entertaining, even won a few rounds at it. And since Kevin knew, he decided to spice things a little.
"Hey, Kev" Eddy got his attention.
"Yeah, dude?" Kevin asked, and then saw Eddy activating the watch and with a blinding green light, turned once again into XLR8.
"Do you have the need for speed?" XLR8 asked with a devious smirk.
"...YOU BET I DO!" Kevin said in excitement as he hopped on XLR8's back, and XLR8 soon took off the rally and into the city, for a more fun ride.
After that, they hit the new arcade in the heart of Peach Creek City, called Total Zone. They've been playing all sorts of games, though a lot of them were very... scammy, and Eddy knew scams better than anyone.
"Oh come on! It barely started!" Eddy shouted as he tried a baseball arcade, at which he immediately lost, with the "GAME OVER" showing on the screen. "This thing ate my quarters!"
"Do you have a turn the volume down kid?" A teen employee with tons of pierces said as he walked around, checking everyone around for any sort of trouble makers. "Get your eyes checked and read the sign again, it says 'Play at your own risk' shorty" he said smugly before leaving.
"This whole place is a rip-off, you know that?!" Eddy called out but got no response from the guy.
"You got a point there, dude. Most of these games here stink" Kevin told Eddy, and he smiled at this.
"Yeah, but not as bad as that walking spiral notebook's breath! MAJOR case of sewer mouth!"
Kevin laughed at that, which pleased Eddy, though he wouldn't admit it out loud. "Good one, man!"
Just then a beeping noise was heard, but not the one the watch made, which confused Kevin. "What's that?"
"That would be me," Eddy said as he took some sort of... junk-made walkie-talkie. "Sockhead made me this to notify me in case of an emergency since I don't have a phone. Gotta take this, be right there."
"Uh...sure," Kevin said, though with a bit of a frown, which got unnoticed by Eddy, as he went to a less populated part of the arcade, but still close to where Kevin is.
"What's up Double D? Over" Eddy asked.
"Well Eddy, aside from leaving me, Ed and Sarah to clean up the obstacle course after you left us for Kevin" Double D sourly reminded Eddy, with him groaning in annoyance at this. "There's an armed robbery at the Peach Creek Northern Bank as we are speaking! Get there quickly, and use Diamondhead to be safe from bullets, and to use his crystal to keep innocent people safe from possible misfires, over."
Eddy's eyes widened at this, then he looked at where Kevin was, waiting for him. Just when he had such a great time, bad guys just HAD TO strike?
"Uh...I'll be there Double D, just wait for me, over" Eddy finished as he put back his walkie-talkie in his pockets. He hoped Kevin wouldn't be too upset about this.
"YO DUDE! CHECK THIS OUT!" Eddy heard Kevin shout for him, so he ran to see what's the damage. And apparently, the damage came from one of the arcades machines, that began spewing a MOUNTAIN of quarters!
"Holy Antonucci..." Eddy muttered as he knelt down and dug in the tons of quarters on his hands. He never had this much money in his life! Well, except for when Ed tricked him with fake money, and when that Korean 'mail-buddy' student sent him a ton of Korean cash for one of his scams, has that guy never heard of dollars?!
"Sweet right?" Kevin said with crossed arms and a devious smile. "This joint sucks, but I know a really cool one not too far from here, we could hit the machines there, I'll even get the others to join. What'cha say, dude?"
"Uh..." Eddy was really conflicted at that moment, there was the robbery, but then there was more fun time with Kevin and the others, to be a part of what they were doing, and not being cast out or ridiculed...
'...The cops could handle the robbery... Yeah, besides, they won't have to be talking about how the aliens are stealing their jobs now' Eddy reasoned with himself.
...Ok, he never heard ANY of them ever complaining about that, but he saw that a lot in hero movies and cartoons, so there must be some truth to it, right?
"So?" Kevin asked with a raised brow.
"...count me in!" Eddy said with a smile, which pleased Kevin.
"You sure? Ain't nothing happening right now?" Kevin asked, but Eddy shrugged it off.
"Nothing the cops can't handle, besides, they can use the exercise after doing their jobs for so long, need to lay off the donuts a bit" Eddy joked, and Kevin chuckled.
"Glad to hear..." Kevin said a bit... weird but went unnoticed by Eddy as they grabbed as many quarters as they could and made a run for it before that stinky breath could catch them.
Meanwhile at the Peach Creek Northern Bank:
We see a couple of masked robbers run out of the bank, one of them is wearing a werewolf mask and the other has a skull mask, they're holding bags full of stolen money inside. They rushed into a van, where their third partner, who has a hockeymask, is waiting for them in the driver sit. As the other two robbers get in the back of the van, they drive off before the police can get them. However and unbeknownst to them, a different vehicle is chasing after them, a small scooter made out of different spare elements, piloted by a beanie wearing boy, with his tall friend standing behind him and his little sister on his back.
"Where's Eddy? The robbers are already out of the bank!" Double D wondered as he frantically looked everywhere, hoping to see Stinkfly flying down or XLR8 running in at the last possible second, perhaps Diamondhead coming from underground or even Ghostfreak appearing out of nowhere, yet none of that happened. Eddy told him he would be here, so he should be coming at any second…
"Who cares? The bad guys are getting away!" Sarah exclaimed and pointed at the escaping van. "After them! Can't you go faster, Double D?" she demanded. Double D sighed, but knew she was right and accelerated the Garbage Speedster, positioning behind the robbers' van.
"Uh boys, we've got some company…" the driver told his partners upon noticing the chasing vehicle through the rear view. They had expected the cops to chase after them, or maybe even one of those alien freaks from the news if they were very unlucky, and they had something in store for either of them, but a pair of kids in a weird scooter wasn't something they planned for. Still, they would teach them not to mess in adults' business…
"IS THAT A ROCKET LAUNCHER?!" Double D screamed as the van's backdoors opened and they saw the skull mask thug was holding in fact a rocket launcher, pointing it straight at them.
"NOT GOOD!" Ed shouted as the robber fired his gun at them, Double D barely having time to move and avoid being hit, however they got caught in the following explosion, which sent the Garbage Speedster flying over with them still in. They all screamed as they went up the air, but Ed managed to hold onto a street light, using it to spin them around before bouncing back and landing back on the road to chase the robbers' van.
"That was a close call…" Double D muttered, totally terrified about nearly getting blown up by the rocket launcher.
Ed's face turned into a serious expression as he saw the robbers fleeing. "Double D, get me close to the van!"
"What? Ed, what are you-?"
"COME ON!" Ed shouted and, without second thought, Double D speeded all the way until positioning next to the van. "Hold on, Sarah" Ed instructed before sticking his head close to one of the van's rear tires and ripping it off with his own teeth. Without a tire, the van went off road as its axels began to spark against the pavement, before crashing into a nearby wall.
"How did you do that?!" Sarah exclaimed as she looked at his brother in a mix of disbelief and… proudness?!
Meanwhile, the robbers got out of the van and began trying to collect all money bags to run away. "Let's go, get the money!" the skull masked thug commanded.
"What about those kids?" the one with the hockeymask asked.
"You've said it, they're a bunch of wimps! If they come any close, we'll show them who's boss!" the werewolf masked thug responded. As if on cue though, the Garbage Speeder came at them, with Double D spinning it around before stopping in front of them and letting all the exhaust of the motor, which was actually a fire extinguisher, into their faces, blinding them momentarily as Sarah jumped at them and took them down in a quick succession of punches and kicks.
"Ha! Does karate classes do pay by themselves!" Sarah stated proudly she'd been able to take those thugs down, but unbeknownst to her, the werewolf masked robber had gotten up behind her and was lifting a pipe to strike her, however he couldn't bring the blow down as something caught his wrist in a brutal hold that actually made him yelp in pain. The thug turned around and came face to face with a more than angry Ed, who proceeded to punch him repeatedly.
"BAD WOLFIE! NO ONE HURTS MY BABY SISTER!" Ed shouted before smashing the wolf masked robber into the van, dropping him unconscious into the ground. He would have continued to beat the guy into a pulp if not for Double D and Sarah restraining him.
"ED! Stop right there, mister! We've seen enough violence for a day!" Double D exclaimed as he tried to calm his friend down.
"Yeah Ed, that's enough! You could have killed him, what's into you?" Sarah questioned, also having never seen her brother act that way before, at least not ever since he got a pebble on his shoe.
Ed's angry scowl suddenly disappeared and a wide smile spread across his face. "Baby sister, you're alright! Yay!" he exclaimed happily as he hugged Sarah, much to her annoyance and discomfort.
"Let go you elephant-head!" she angrily demanded and struggled to break free of her brother's grasp.
Double D meanwhile looked at the scene in wonder as he'd never seen Ed beat up someone in such a fury, not even since they've started apprehending criminals. It was even more than what Eddy would do in alien form… speaking of which, he just remembered a certain someone who told him he was coming, yet never showed up. "You better have a good explanation for your absence, Eddy..." he said to himself as they left the scene just in time as the cops arrived to take in the crooks.
Back with Eddy:
"Man, that was great!" Kevin said as he stood on his bike, laughing with Eddy at remembering the fun they had today.
"You said it!" Eddy returned the feeling. Man, this was just what he needed after so much hero this and hero that, just a bit of unwinding.
"Alright dude, I gotta bail. Same time tomorrow?" Kevin said casually.
"Sure!" Eddy agreed with a wide grin before he parted ways with Kevin for the moment, both going in their direction. Today had been great and he hoped tomorrow would be even better!
Eddy walked into his house's backyard and opened the door to his room, then he turned the light switch. When the lights went on, Eddy was surprised by the view of his friends, sitting across his room with different looks on their faces. Sarah has fuming with anger. Ed was a bit distressed and down, and Double D had a look that could've only be described in one word... disappointment.
"What are you guys doing here?" Eddy asked confused as to how their friends had sneak into his house without him knowing.
"I have a spare key, remember Eddy?" Double D responded in a cold voice while keeping his stern look.
Eddy still didn't get what was going on with his friends nor why they were acting this way, and so he asked, "Well, what's with y'all?" which made Sarah grit her teeth.
"What's with us?! WHAT'S WITH YOU?!" Sarah shouted, which surprised him a bit. "WHERE WE'RE—"
"SARAH!" Double D exclaimed with an authoritative tone, which surprised everyone, and silenced them all at the same time.
"Eddy..." Double D locked his eyes at Eddy, which unnerved him a bit. Sockhead can get a bit stiffy when angry, but he NEVER saw him like this. "...Where were you?"
"What are you bla—" Eddy was cut off by Double D.
"WHERE. WE'RE. YOU...?" Each word was a sign that he was losing his patience, and Eddy decided to speak.
"I... Uh, I was just hanging out with Kevin and the other kids..." Eddy tried to sound innocent, but no one changed their mood.
"But... but what about the robbery, Eddy?" Ed asked with a bit of trembling, he was not happy, he was not in his happy place!
"Well... it was just a robbery, the cops handled it" Eddy reassured but got nothing but more scolding in return.
"Handle it?! You stupid Flathead! You were completely blind to the whole thing, WEREN'T YOU?!" Sarah said harshly, and Double D added himself in the scolding.
"Eddy, the people who robbed the bank had expertly calculated the entire event, they had everything prepared for their escape, they even had obtained a rocket launcher with them, a ROCKET LAUNCHER Eddy!"
Eddy was in a REALLY bad spot. "Well... and who told YOU guys to intervene?! Cause I surely didn't tell you guys to get rockets to the face!" Eddy tried to argue back, but it didn't do much for his case.
"But Eddy, if we didn't stop—" Ed tried to speak but Sarah continued.
"If WE" Sarah waved her hands at everyone in the room, but Eddy. "Didn't stop them, they would've had gotten away, AND get many people hurt!"
"Sarah is right Eddy," Double D told his trouble-making friend, starting to get a migraine from all of this. "It was your job as a hero to stop them and do the right thing, but you abandoned all of that for your own fun! I swear at this point it is like I'm speaking to a broken record..."
Eddy took offense in that statement. "Excuse ME, Sockhead, I've used the watch a hundred times for good! Is it truly that bad if I use it even just once for myself?!"
Double D massaged his templates "My goodness, Eddy, you ARE a broken record" he said frustrated. "It's not how many times you use it, Eddy, it's how you use it!"
"And if ya ask me, that thing was wasted on your wrist" Sarah said with venom in her voice, that's when Eddy started to get angry himself at that point.
"Watch it, bratmouth!" Eddy retorted back at Sarah. "If it wasn't for me, there wouldn't have been a Peach Creek by now! And look who's talking! Cause of you taking that amulet from us and with your showboating, that Hex guy nearly took this Cul-De-Sac apart! And then blackmailing us into joining the team, if it were up to me, I would've turned into Stinkfly, and gooped you to the town's biggest skyscraper and left you there for hours! Just so you would shut it about my watch!"
This surprised many in that room, Eddy could be harsh, but it was usually blind anger, this time, it was like he MEANT what he was saying.
"Why you..." Sarah was about to tackle Eddy right there, until Ed got in between them, blocking the way, standing in a protective manner with a serious look on his face. "What the..."
"No one talks to my baby sister like that, Eddy! NO ONE! NOT EVEN MY BESTEST BEST OF FRIENDS!" Ed told Eddy harshly, and even with all that, everyone could see Ed starting to tear up.
Eddy's look started to darken at this. "Lumpy..." he began with a serious voice. "...you and your winged friend are the only ones I still think are cool, so DON'T even think about it... Or maybe you would like GHOSTFREAK to teach ya ALL a lesson?"
Silence fell upon the room, Ed started to tremble and sweat, the twists kept coming and coming, and the argument got more heated.
"By Heaven almighty..." Double D muttered, then his look hardened and let his anger, still holding back A LOT, out. "ARE YOU EVEN HEARING YOURSELF AT THIS POINT?! FIRST YOU NEGLECT YOUR DUTIES, AGAIN, LEAVE US FOR PEOPLE WHO I MUST BE BRUTALLY HONEST, BARELY ACCEPTED YOU ONLY BECAUSE KEVIN TOLD THEM TO, AND NOW YOU ARE THREATENING YOUR OWN FRIENDS! AND THEIR RELATIVES! ARE YOU TRULY THAT DEAF ABOUT LEARNING TO GROW UP?!"
"AND YOU WATCH IT TOO EINSTEIN!" Eddy retorted back, his face turning red and his hairs burning down like fuses. "ALWAYS LEARN THIS, LEARN THAT, DO THAT, NOT THAT! ALWAYS TELLING ME HOW TO DO IT, SINCE WHEN WERE YOU THE LEADER HERE?!"
"APPARENTLY, SINCE YOU GOT THE WATCH AND BEGAN TO BE MORE RECKLESS THAN EVER, SOMEONE HAD TO TAKE CONTROL OF ALL THIS MADNESS!" Double D said.
"WELL TOO BAD! I GOT THE WATCH AND YOU DIDN'T, SO DEAL WITH IT! IF YOU THINK I'M THAT BAD AT BEING A HERO, THEN GO AHEAD, TAKE MY WATCH, AND BE MISTER BRAINIAC, THE WIMP HERO WHO CAN'T EVEN LIFT A FOOTBALL BALL TO SAVE HIS LIFE! I'M JUST SUUUUREEE YOU WOULD BE THE BEST HERO THERE IS!" Eddy snapped hotly at his 'friend' he knew for so long. "Don't you guys see it? This is all I ever wanted! Everything I've worked all my life to gain! I'm finally in with the kids, Kevin thinks I'm cool and even gives me Jawbreakers! I'm finally accepted!"
"What about OUR acceptance Eddy, huh?!" Double D said as he teared up as well, feeling betrayed by Eddy's words. "Ed and I accepted all of your flaws and all the troubles you got us into way before Kevin even considered being friends with you! We could have easily abandoned you long ago and moved on with the other kids, but we didn't because we CARED about you Eddy, and still do! Is our acceptance not good enough for you anymore?!"
Tension between the group was so thick, you needed a chainsaw to cut it. A deafening silence rang in the room before Eddy spoke again. "Your just jealous, Sockhead! You're just jealous that I'm finally getting more popular than you! Finally stronger than the others! Finally having some sort of ACTUAL power! No longer the laughing stock of the Cul-de-Sac! No longer the one to be humiliated by ANYONE!" he told Double D.
"So now you are gonna abandon us, Mister Big Shot?!" Sarah snapped at Eddy. "You don't care about anyone but yourself! You abandon your lifelong friends for some superficial jock who only liked you after he learned you have powers! Haven't you considered that a little fishy? Or what, did ya learn to abandon the ones you care about from your 'big bro' too—?!"
In that instance, Eddy's face turned almost as red as Heatblast's rocks as he walked right in front of Sarah. "DON'T...YOU...EVER...DARE to compare me to... HIM..." he told her in a threatening tone. Eddy then turned his back at everyone and opened the door to the backyard. "That's it! I want ALL OF YOU out! And nowhere near my house!"
...
...
"... E-Eddy…" Double D stuttered as tears poured down his face.
"OUTTA MY ROOM! OUT! OUT! OUT!" Eddy shouted repeatedly. Ed started to loudly weep and cry, while Double D clenched his fist and lowered his head before walking out of the room. Sarah soon followed, pulling her crying brother by his arm with her and giving Eddy one last angry glare before leaving.
Eddy couldn't even look at them as his eyes were too watery, yet he didn't want for them to see him cry. After he heard them walk out, Eddy slammed the door hard, then began to throw thing around his room in a fit of rage. All he saw was his friends, of all the people, trying to ruin his fun, trying to ruin all he ever worked for and now had at the palm of his hand. How could they?! How could they turn their backs on him now?! Whatever, he didn't need them, and they preferred that brat's company over his now anyways. They could all-
A knock was suddenly heard on the door and Eddy turned to look at it, barely stopping himself from throwing a small lamp he'd just grabbed in his fury. Of course. Of course they were going to come back and beg him for forgiveness. Well, he wasn't going to put it any easy on them after what they'd said. He angrily stormed off towards the door, lamp still in hand, and shouted. "DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO GET-!" he stopped mid-sentence upon opening the door and seeing Kevin on the other side, rather than his apparently now former friends.
"…Oh, hey Kev…" Eddy tried playing it like nothing happened, even hiding the lamp behind his backs a few seconds later.
"Geez dude… what's going on? I heard some shouting next door and decided to come check on you. Are you okay?" Kevin asked with seemingly a bit of concern, though he didn't show so much as he did confusion at why Eddy was holding a lamp behind him.
"Um… I... don't think so" Eddy admitted with a sigh.
"Who died then?" Kevin asked a bit jokingly, to try light up the mood.
"My friendship with the guys...I think?" Eddy said somberly, which made Kevin rethink his way to get Eddy's spirits up.
"What happened?" he asked. Eddy sighed again and motioned for him to come in.
Once they did, he sat on the bed and told Kevin what happened, or at least from his point of view. "…So basically, the guys think it's my fault they almost got killed by those thugs, but no one told them to get involved! They could just had let the cops handle it, but nooo! They have to be goody two-shoes and always play by the rules!" Eddy finished telling.
"Well... I wouldn't worry about that kind of stuff, I mean, when haven't you blow their nerves up and they forgave you" Kevin said and Eddy chuckled at that, though a more nervous one at that.
"Heh heh...yeah, when haven't they..." Eddy tried to sound more lighten up, and thankfully Kevin bought it. "Man, this hero shtick is so complicated! I didn't even ask for this, y'know?"
"I feel you, man…" Kevin responded, then he paused for a moment as he seemingly thought about something. He looked back at Eddy and spoke. "You know, Eddy, I always thought you were… well, y'know, a dork and all that, but… now I think you and I ain't that different."
Eddy looked at him more curiously. "What'cha mean by that?"
"For instance, we both have some… unique abilities" Kevin told him.
"How so?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. Kevin glanced at the lamp Eddy had left on his nightstand, before reaching for it and plugging it. Then he removed the top off it and put his palm on the lightbulb, flashing it in front of Eddy. Suddenly, blue waves of electricity started coming out of it and into Kevin's hand! And he wasn't even hurt by that!
"What... the..." Eddy stuttered as his eyes were glued to the scene before him. Then, the lights on his room actually started to flick, before Kevin stopped whatever he was doing and put the lamp back in his place. "How..." he questioned, and Kevin grinned at that.
"Neat, ain't it, dude?" Kevin asked as he showed his hand, which was now emanating the energy he seemingly absorbed. "I always had those powers, since I was born with them" he told Eddy, who listened carefully to what he said. "I discovered them around when I was seven, drained the batteries of the remote control, then I started practicing bit by bit, and then I could do it to any sort of device!" he explained. "I haven't told my folks about it 'cause I didn't want them to freak out, and I didn't tell anyone else either."
"Not even Rolf? Or Nazz?" Eddy asked and Kevin answered.
"Nope. I didn't want them to think I'm some kind of freak, so I stopped using them after a while until you came around" he looked at Eddy right in the eyes.
"Me?" Eddy asked completely dumbfounded.
"Well, you and your alien transformations dude" Kevin explained with a smile. "Seeing you fight all those bad guys out in the public, and being praised despite looking like a complete circus of freaks, got me, a confidence man. Confidence that one day I could do the same, and not be judged for my powers" Kevin told Eddy with sincerity. Suddenly Kevin's strength, his facility for sports and all those beatings he used to give him started to make more sense, especially as to why his hands felt so 'electrifying'.
"If you ask me, I think we should be partners, we could be celebrity heroes in no time! And you would even probe the others how wrong they were about you! So what do you say…" Kevin offered his hand to Eddy. "Friends?"
Eddy was almost entranced by the hand in front of him, this all seemed too good, but it must have been true! He gets Kevin to join the team, he would show the guys he did take things seriously, they would make peace and all ends well! He could not let this opportunity go.
"Yeah..." Eddy shook Kevin's hand. "Friends."
"Awesome! Hey, tell ya what, I got this big gig going on and believe dude, you won't want to miss this..." Kevin said. While a bit vague, Eddy blindly accepted the offer, if it meant they could work together and prove the others wrong, then count him in!
"You bet I wouldn't!" he said with a wide grin.
"Then it's a deal" Kevin signaled Eddy to get closer to him to listen to what he had to say. "Can you get us to the Subway Station right at the entrance of the city in less than an hour?" he asked, to which Eddy looked at his 'watch' and nodded in understanding.
"I think I know just a guy that can take us there…"
Later:
We see them entering the Subway Station, which had no security of any kind for some reason, not even cameras, they both jumped over the ticket checks and soon arrive inside the station, which was empty, but still illuminated.
"Awesome, no one's here" Kevin said as he jumped onto where the two tracks were, which worried Eddy a bit. What if a train came in? But Kevin was not worrying a bit as he got to a switch of sorts. "Hey partner, land a hand for me?"
"Uh... sure" Eddy gave little thought of it as he got his hands on the switch, and Kevin put his hands on it too.
Energy coursed from Kevin through the switch, which helped them both move it from its place, causing the rails on one track to shift and connect to the other.
"Uh... partner, what are we doing?" Eddy questioned Kevin, this whole thing started to not sound so appealing.
"Okay so," Kevin began explaining. "A money train loaded with cash comes down this track, so when it crashes into the incoming passenger train? Boom! Instant jackpot! You turn into that XLR8 guy and we're outta here!" Kevin finished the explanation, it was a solid proof plan, thanks to his new partner, and an easy one at that too!
However, things did not go the way he thought they would.
"Woah, Woah Woah, HOLD THE PHONE A BIT!" Eddy said as he looked at Kevin in shock, this was NOT OK! "Are you crazy?! if we do this, hundreds of innocent people will be killed!"
Kevin only laughed at Eddy's freakout. "Told ya you worry too much. Listen, man, I know those trains are gonna leave a mark on each other, and that's why you're here!" Kevin told Eddy, and he listened to what he had to say. "XLR8 is like, super mega fast, right?" Eddy nodded in confirmation. "Then there ya go! before the trains come close to each other, you go alien, get everyone from both trains out somewhere far out from here, and then we cash in the loot!"
"Do you see what I'm saying?" Kevin asked as he wrapped Eddy around his shoulder, which was an uncomfortable situation for Eddy, to say the least. "It's like with your scams, you can still save the world like a good hero, AND even get 'paid' for it. All you have to remember is to look the other way on occasion, you know?"
"On any occasion I choose?" Eddy questioned. Like one of his scams...huh. Scams. Scams that brought him nothing but trouble. Scams that brought him into the bottom of society's standards. Scams that made him untrustworthy and ridiculed and scolded by most of the people he knew, Kevin himself being one of them, in all three aspects of it! And now he wants in, in a scam himself and bring him back to his old ways?
'No…' that thought rang in Eddy's head. '...No, no, no, this is not okay, this is not okay, THIS IS NOT OKAY!'
'THIS'
'IS NOT'
'OKAY!'
"FORGET IT!" Eddy broke free from Kevin's grasp, which surprised him. "We can't do this!"
"Of course we can, I switched the tracks" Kevin said in an obvious tone.
"I MEANT, I won't let YOU do this!" Eddy said harshly. "I don't care how much money is on that train, I won't risk the lives of others for my own gains, or yours. You've ridiculed me for my scams for years, and now you want to commit a huge one yourself?! Just what the hell's wrong with you?!"
Kevin's smile dropped at that moment, with a not-so-happy look on his face. "Listen, dude..." Kevin began with a dangerous tone "We shook hands, we are partners, we are gonna do this, I am not gonna bail out after I got this close, and neither will you." Kevin got close to Eddy's face. "You don't want to go back to being a DORK, now do you Eddy?"
This hit a nerve in Eddy but he stood his ground. "Drop it, Kev, I said I won't do this, and I will stop you too!"
"Just try... Watch Dork." Kevin said tauntingly
"...They were right. You don't care about anyone but yourself" Eddy said softly but Kevin still heard him and got angry.
"You talking about me, short stack?!" Kevin asked.
"I'm talking about ME!" Eddy marches up to Kevin, who grabs him and throws him to the ground. As Eddy got up, Kevin's hands started sparking with energy.
"Nice try, dork, but I'm a better fighter than you. Give up now, cause, believe me, you DO NOT want to make me mad!" Kevin warned Eddy, but he did not listen.
"Me neither! I'm switching the tracks back!" Eddy said, and Kevin used his powers to shoot an energy attack at the switch, destroying it.
"Yeah...don't think so," Kevin said smugly. Eddy gritted his teeth and activated his watch.
"Upgrade should be able to switch the tracks, and give you a good whooping!" Eddy said as he got to Upgrade's silhouette and immediately pressed the watch. When the light died down, only Heatblast stood in Eddy's place, much to both's confusion.
Heatblast looked at himself and groaned in annoyance. "UGH, stupid watch…" he saw Kevin moving forward, so he extended a flaming hand. "Back off!"
"Or what?" Kevin asked daringly. "You're gonna burn my dinner?"
"...Play with fire, and YOU will be the one who gets BURNED..."
Kevin gritted his teeth and glanced behind him. He turned and ran to a generator next to the track switch. He gripped it and absorbed its electricity.
—BZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTT!—
Heatblast looked around him, only to see the lights around him popping out and glass shattering. Then the entire subway station went dark, his flame being the only source of light. Heatblast looked over to the generator, but Kevin wasn't there anymore!
'This is not good...' Heatblast thought as he panicked and started looking around him, hoping to find Kevin before he got away.
But Kevin was not going anywhere... not yet. He sneaked up behind the fire alien and jumped on his back, a struggle beginning between the two. As Heatblast flailed and tried to get Kevin off him, Kevin got his right hand on the watch's badge, seemingly absorbing its energy.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Energy traveled up Kevin's arm and he screamed, his body repelling and flying off of Heatblast.
Heatblast looked at where he went flying, looking concerned as he saw the remains of his trademark red cap fell to the ground on fire. He tried to approach him "...Kevin? Are you—AAARGGHH!?"
Out of nowhere, Heatblast got blasted back by what seemed to be red fire, contrary to his yellow fire, causing an explosion. As Heatblast recovered and got up, he got a good look at Kevin... and he swore his heart stopped for a second at that moment. The entire right side of his upper body and head had been transformed to have the same rocky fiery skin as Heatblast, though a different pattern to it. His right arm was like Heatblast's, which must have been the arm Kevin used to attack him while the left arm remained the same.
"Sike, Charcoal Dork!" Kevin said smugly with a rocky smile, which crept Heatblast a lot. "I absorb ENERGY, remember? And from the looks of it, that watch of yours sure got plenty of that!"
Things took a sudden turn south QUICKLY...But Heatblast felt like he should have seen that being the end result. He got up and glared at Kevin, narrowing his eyes "You DON'T have to do this, Kevin!" Heatblast told the mutated Kevin. "I'm giving you a chance, turn your powers down, let me fix the tracks, go home, and we will forget this ever happened, and you will make SURE this sort of thing NEVER happens again..."
"Yeah well..." Kevin put his fiery hand on his rocky chin in fake thought. "You see, Eddy. Like you, dork, I don't do well with people telling ME what to do..."
If a fight is what he wanted... HE WILL GET ONE!
Heatblast rushed at Kevin, but he moved out of the way and blasted him in the back with an intense wave of fire, sending the alien falling to his knees on a track. "It's time I got what's coming to me, nobody's calling me 'freak' anymore!" the half-burning boy declared as he approached menacingly.
Heatblast suddenly heard a horn coming from his left and raised up his head to see a passenger train come barreling down the track. Then, he heard a second horn on his right and turned around to see the cargo train comes down that same track, gasping in shock at this. "Payday" Kevin muttered with a grin on his now rocky face.
Quickly thinking, Heatblast shot fire at the track switch, melting it and causing the switch to short-circuit back to its first position. The passenger train went back to its track and past them, the people inside saved. However, as he was getting up, Heatblast looked over and saw the cargo train about to ram into him, the conductor unable to stop in time.
Thinking quickly again, he created a fire tornado to lift himself onto the roof, the train simply speeding through the fire with Heatblast now on its rooftop, gripping the edge. His grip slipped and he tumbled down a couple cars, but he saved himself by melting through the roof with his hand and holding on that way. Kevin had seemingly disappeared, though Heatblast heard the last thing he said. "You think you've won!? You may have super powers, but what about your dorky friends?" he called over from the darkness, before running away.
Heatblast's fiery eyes widened in horror upon realization. His friends were in danger! He had to get to them before Kevin, or else… he couldn't think of the rest, not only because he didn't dare to but also because he spotted a sign coming up in front of him as the train exited the tunnel and rode the overhead subway lines in the city.
"Ooh, that's gonna hurt!" Heatblast muttered as he let go before he would hit the approaching sign, falling backwards and maintaining in the air with his fire, then turning his feet into a fireboard to fly back to the Cul-da-sac and warn his friends about Kevin, however the watch seemed to have other plans as not long after this his hourglass symbol started beeping and flashing a red light. "Not now, please!" Heatblast exclaimed, unable to believe his luck, before a red light flashed and reverted him back to Eddy, who started falling over and into a dumpster.
"Man, I really hate that sound!" Eddy commented as he got out of the dumpster, a banana peel on his head.
Meanwhile with the others:
Ed, Double D and Sarah were sitting over a fence at the lane, still feeling over their discussion with Eddy, with less than joyful looks varying on their faces. Ed was still weeping over, while Double D looked downhearted, and Sarah was just...she didn't know how she felt, or WHAT to feel. When she wanted to kick in with their adventures... this WAS NOT what she imagined...
"I miss Eddy, Double D!" Ed cried.
"I know, Ed, but I don't think Eddy would be most fond of our company right now…" Double D responded and pat him on the back to try and comfort him. Sarah just didn't know what to say, however she suddenly heard something… coming!
"GET DOWN!" she shouted, before grabbing both her brother and crush, throwing them to the ground before jumping down as well, a strange feeling in her mind sensing impeding danger. No sooner had she done this, a big fireball hit the fence they were sitting, making a big explosion and blowing that part of the fence into pieces.
"What was that?!" Double D exclaimed as they got up, merely a few meters away from the explosion, their eyes narrowed and unable to see much due to all the smoke coming. Then, he managed to spot a bright light through the smoke, which after it faded seconds later he saw was a familiar rock face on fire. "I-Is that Heatblast?" he asked dumbfounded, not believing that their friend would try to attack them even after their previous argument.
Sarah finally found what to feel, the all too familiar emotion of anger, and also what to say. "YOU DUMB IDIOT! HOW CAN YOU USE YOUR POWERS TO ATTACK US LIKE THAT?! YOU COULD HAVE KILLED US, YOU KNOW?! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!" she yelled furiously as she stepped forward to the fire being, however she halted when he extended his fiery hand forward, pointing at her while forming another ball of fire. Surely he wouldn't…
"SARAH!" Double D now shouted in concern as he dived and pushed Sarah onto the ground, the incoming fireball flying over them and destroying part of the fence that was behind.
"Eddy, stop! We're very sorry!" Ed tried to plead, however the fire alien shot a fireball at him as well, which he barely managed to avoid.
"Ed! That's not Eddy!" Double D called as he got up and, with the smoke cleared out of the way, noticed something very different about this 'Heatblast'. For instance, he was a bit shorter than the usual, and also half his body wasn't the usual fire rock figure, but rather had a more human appearance, with black shorts and a familiar looking green shirt that looked a lot like… "K-Kevin?" he asked in disbelief.
"Hey, Double Dweeb" the mutated Kevin grinned maniacally at him.
Back with Eddy:
We see Eddy furiously pedaling on a bike he, um… 'borrowed', trying desperately to get back to his friends before it was too late. If Kevin found them before he did… if Kevin HURT them due to his own fault… he couldn't dare to think about that. He tried moving faster, though he was too tired to get any more speed going. Man, if only he could go XLR8 right now…
As if on cue, a beeping sound was heard and Eddy looked at his watch to see it was now back to its green color, a big sensation of relief coming as he dialed the watch and slammed down the core, a green light enveloping him. However, rather than turning into the light and nimble XLR8 as he expected, his body felt bigger and heavier, even making the bike he was sat on completely collapse and break into pieces, him falling sat on the floor.
"Great, NOW I turn into Four Arms!" he angrily shouted, the bike's handlebar still in one hand. He had no time to lose however, and so he got up and began leaping over, taking big jumps to move a distance in short time.
Back to the Cul-da-sac:
"OH DEAR!" Double D screamed in terror as he, Ed and Sarah fleet away from the rampaging fire-mutated Kevin, who continued to shoot fireballs at them. Unfortunately for the latter, her short legs made her slower and she fell over while running, barely avoiding an incoming fireball. However, Kevin wasn't about to be done, as he extended his fiery arm and prepared to shoot another fireball straight at her.
"SARAH!" both Ed and Double D shouted in concern as they saw her on the ground and unable to defend herself. Sarah closed her eyes as she saw the flames approaching, thinking she was done for, but on the last possible second before the fire hit, Ed jumped over and protected her with his body. The two were sent flying a few meters, though Sarah was relatively unharmed as Ed took most of the blow.
"ED!" Double D exclaimed worriedly after seeing his best friend get hit.
Sarah opened her eyes to see her brother embracing her, part of his olive jacket had been burned down and smoke was coming from a hole on its back. "NO!" she exclaimed upon realizing what happened. Why had he done this for?! After all, she's never treated her brother even half as nice as he does for her. "Ed… Why?! Why did you do it, you imbecile?!" she questioned, her eyes suddenly filling up with tears and her usually loud voice cracking as she yelled.
"S-Sarah… Y-You're… m-my baby s-sister… I-h-have t-to p-protect… you…" Ed managed to say weakly, before losing consciousness. Tears started rolling down Sarah's face as she looked at her brother, still embracing her on the ground.
"Well, isn't that sweet?" Kevin mocked in a fake tone, before pointing his fire hand directly at them. "Sayonara, sibling dork-" suddenly he was cut off when the fire on his hand began to extinguish, a different kind of smoke coming out of him as the red rocks detach from his skin and he returned back to his normal appearance.
"Huh? W-What's going on?" Kevin wondered in his regular voice, the fire on his head also disappearing. Then, he heard a loud thud sound coming, before turning around and seeing a huge bulky red creature with four arms jumping on the air and landing in front of him.
"KEVIN!" the creature angrily yelled and the boy recognized him as another of the aliens from the news, realizing it's another of Eddy's transformations. "Your time's up, freak!" Four Arms declared, deducing that if the watch's powers functioned temporarily, so did the energy Kevin absorbed.
"Looks like you're about to give me some more, Dorky!" Kevin laughed, but then Four Arms noticed the unconscious Ed behind him, with a tearing Sarah holding him in her arms.
"LUMPY! NOOOOOO!" he yelled, worried down to his very soul for his friend safety. He'd been too late, his friend had gotten hurt and it was all his fault.
"You don't have a choice! I still got enough juice to fry these two!" Kevin declared as he turned back to Sarah and Ed, walking menacingly at them with his hands lighting up in blue energy.
"NOOO!" Four Arms yelled again as he charged headfirst at Kevin before he could hurt his friends anymore, restraining him with his arms not realizing this is what the boy intended. Kevin smugly smirked as he touched Four Arms' arms when he wrapped around him, laughing maniacally as he began to absorb his power. Energy traveled through his body again, his skin turning into a light red color and his body beginning to morph, growing in size. His feet grew so much that his heels and toes stuck out of his now broken shoes, the sleeves of his shirt also tearing up as his arms' muscles grew into a considerable large size (as big as Four Arms'), which he immediately used to punch him so hard it sent the big alien flying away.
"HAHAHAHAHA!" Kevin laughed as he continued to transform, an extra pair of arms growing under his upper ones and his left eye turning into two yellow eyes like Four Arms'. "This is gonna be REAL fun!" he exclaimed as he stood up and another pair of arms grew out of his midsection.
Four Arms was stunned by this, but then his look turned into an angry four-eyed glare as he remembered that this freak not only had threatened his friends, but also hurt one of them. "You're gonna pay…" he venomously spat before charging at the enlarged Kevin, who charged back at him in response, the two meeting in a bull clash and locking four hands against each other in a colossal tussle.
"I'm taking ALL your alien powers!" the mutated Kevin exclaimed as he used his third pair of arms to punch Four Arms in the face, then kneed him and sent him through a fence before pouncing on him.
As the two continued fighting, Sarah was tending her brother, his head resting on her hands as she tried to shake him awake. "Ed! Come on Ed! Wake up!" she cried.
"Sarah!" Double D called over as he approached them. "How's Ed?" he asked as he went to check on his unconscious friend.
"He's not awakening! Double D, you don't think…" Sarah's heart sunk at the thought of losing her brother like this.
"Don't worry, I can feel his pulse, he just lost consciousness" Double D reassured her. "We need to get him to a hospital! I'm calling 9-1-" he was cut off as Four Arms came crashing back through the fence.
"Just like good ol' times, huh Dorky?" Kevin taunted as he reared from over the hole in the fence. Four Arms gritted his teeth and charged back at him, the two struggling against each other with Kevin getting the best of it, overwhelming Four Arms and throwing him to the ground. As the big bulky alien tried to stop the incoming punches, the hourglass symbol on his shoulder started beeping and his four eyes widened in horror as he realized that after timing out he wouldn't be able to protect his friends from this freak, protect them from being hurt like Ed had, and it was all on him.
However, Four Arms wasn't about to let that happen and, with a rush of both adrenaline and fury, he double kicked Kevin on his knees, bringing the six armed mutant down in order to catch him by his arms and, in a flash of willpower, started spinning him around before throwing him through the fence again. He wasn't done though and, before Kevin could get up from the ground, Four Arms leaped back at him and began punching him in the face over and over and over…
A beam of red light flashed through Kevin's eyes, blinding him temporarily, yet he felt a smaller hand punch him in the face once more. It didn't hurt him, though he was still pretty stunned from the repeated punches. "Come on! I give, I give! Please, just...lighten up" he pleaded while on the ground.
The now de-transformed Eddy stood over him, his face still a scowl of pure anger as he looked at the mutated boy. "I swear, if you ever try to hurt one of my friends again…" he said threateningly, despite not being on alien form anymore.
"I- I'm sorry! I went too wild with power! I don't have anyone else like you to help me..." Kevin said, feign repentance for his actions, but upon noticing Eddy was now back on his human form, he swiped his legs and used his bigger arm to grab Eddy's hand with the watch, lifting him up by it. "Hoho, man, you are still a dork! Your mommy drop you on your head when you were a little baby?" Kevin mocked as he pinched the watch, trying to take it off Eddy's wrist. "Now gimme that watch!"
"You're the dork! It's stuck on my wrist, don't you see?" Eddy responded as Kevin still tried to pry off the watch. "I can't-" he tried to tell but suddenly, the watch turned green again despite having just about timed out, and sent out a large feedback of green energy, which sent them flying in opposite directions. Kevin went through another fence, while Double D attempted to catch Eddy, only for the two to be sent onto the ground.
As the two got back up, Kevin reared again from the fence hole, but thankfully he was back to his human form, pretty bruised from the fight and with his clothes torn up and his toes sticking out of his shoes. "Huh? Noooo!" Kevin shouted after looking at his only two arms now, noticing he'd lost his new powers and also all the energy he'd stored before. He was clearly in no condition to keep fighting. "You're gonna pay for this, dork…" he glared at Eddy, before running away.
"Kevin!" Eddy called as he tried to chase after him, but a hand on his shoulder prevented him from running. He turned around and saw it belonged to his other bestie. "Double D! We have to get him, he knows-"
"I know, Eddy. But we have more important things to look for right now" Double D responded as he glanced back at the still unconscious Ed, with Sarah holding onto him.
"Lumpy!" Eddy exclaimed worriedly, before rushing to help his friend.
Later on, at the hospital:
It was almost the morning of the next day as Eddy and Double D sat in silence at the waiting room, having managed to get Ed to the hospital after Double D called emergencies. Of course they had to lie about the whole nature of their friend's injuries, saying it had been some kind of freakish accident.
Sarah had to stay behind due to being too young to accompany her brother in the ambulance. She was heartbroken by this, but Double D had assured her that Ed will be okay, and they would seem he gets taken care of by the best doctors and specialists. She also had to get back home and inform her parents about it, though omitting the crucial details.
"Double D…" Eddy finally gathered the courage to speak to his friend again, causing the smartest Ed to spin his head to look at him. "I'm sorry, for everything. This is all my fault, if I had listened when you said-" he began to tear up, and Double D decided it was for the best to comfort him.
"It's okay, Eddy. You're our friend and nothing will ever change that" he reassured, however he turned his head back to the emergency room and frowned. "As for Ed, we can only hope for the best…"
Eddy sighed profoundly and sobbed. "I know, but… it's not just that. Kevin's still out there…" he stated as he thought about what Kevin could possibly do now that he knew about his secret.
Meanwhile in the sewers:
A maniacal cackle echoed through the darkness, making a rat run away on the sidewalk. At the end of a tunnel, Kevin was sat laughing and looking at his hand. "Oh, if they thought I was a freak before… Just wait!" he exclaimed as his hand suddenly lighted on fire, though it didn't seem to hurt him at all. In fact, he proceeded to laugh hysterically at this, his voice starting to change and deepen as it sounded throughout the sewers.
And that's chapter 5, the longest chapter yet! Man, they're getting longer and longer… I'll try to get the next one rolling as soon as possible, in the meantime here's some trivia facts about this chapter!
Trivia:
1) The title and plot of this chapter are based on the original Ben 10 episode, "Kevin 11". It's also the first chapter not to include an Ed pun like the episodes of the show, this was done in purpose to coincide with the Ben 10 episode of the same name, since this is basically Kevin's introduction.
2) This is the first chapter in which all of Eddy's alien transformations are mentioned and the one so far in which he has transformed the most, a total of eight times and into six different aliens (Diamondhead, Stinkfly, Upgrade, XLR8 X2, Heatblast X2 and Four Arms).
3) Part of the introductory scene is actually taken from the Ben 10 episode, "Haunted", which will be base for the next chapter.
4) The Kankers tying Kevin to a wheel is based on the EENE episode, "Dawn of the Eds, in which they do the same.
5) The masks of the robbers in the heist scene are taken from the Ben 10 episode, "Gwen 10", the third guy having a hockey mask was Soul's idea and a reference to the Friday the 13th franchise.
