Rolling across the payment of the skatepark at incredible speeds, Ronnie Anne successfully managed to jump a couple of ramps, went down a pit where she did a couple of neat tricks before getting out after her last trick, she then rolled over to a long pipe where she does an awesome half pipe all the way to the end. After jumping off it, she now headed straight for the U-shaped ramp with narrowed, determined eyes for this was it.
Accelerating into maximum speed, she gets on the ramp and proceeds to swing back and forth, getting more faster and higher while preforming awesome tricks that really amazed the younger kids on the ramp's platforms.
Swinging in one last time, Ronnie Anne goes higher than what she has ever previously reached before. While she slowly stopped in mid air, she suddenly gets off her board and spun it around like a top at about four times, then got back on it just seconds before she finally went back down.
Successfully landing on the ramp, she went down and up before outright jumping onto the platform, where a nine year old girl wearing a Star Wars T-shirt; looked to her with a wide gaping mouth. "Whoa! That was awesome! How did you do that?"
"Years of practice and watching countless skateboarding videos more than once." Ronnie Anne replied with her skateboard being held right by her side like a cane.
"I wish that I can do that. All I can do are just some plain, boring jumps." She sighed.
"Hey no worries kid." Ronnie Anne reassured with a comforting hand placed on the kid's shoulder. "With just enough practice; you can do it to in no time. I mean just look at me. I wasn't exactly a skateboarding expert when I first started out."
"You weren't?"
"Nope" Ronnie Anne chuckled. "I in fact; fell very often during my first few weeks of skateboarding. I couldn't even do any jumps." In fact, she was actually very afraid to do any of them when she was little, not that she would admit it to anyone of course.
"Can you possibly teach me a few moves?" She would love to do a simple flip.
"I would like to kid, but I need to get home for lunch." The bagels she had this morning wasn't enough for her and with all the tricks she's been doing all morning, she was hungry.
"Aw!" The girl however whined.
"Hey don't worry. I'll gladly teach you some moves later, maybe this afternoon."
Smiling in delight; the girl gives her a thumbs up which Ronnie Anne gladly gave back before getting back onto her skateboard, rode herself down the ramp, then out of the skatepark.
Now while she traveled down the sidewalks, Ronnie Anne makes sure to do a couple of cool jumps over vegetable stands in front of the market, open manhole covers, and a parked green car.
Reaching her house at last, she jumps off her board after doing a cool skid, then uses her foot to bounce it into the air which she catches it firmly underneath her arm. She doesn't know what she'll do for lunch, but it will most likely be a sandwich.
Coming into the house, she stops in complete surprise underneath the kitchen archway for right at the table, looking through his laptop is her older brother. Which is seriously odd for he should be at work right now. "Bobby? What are you doing here?"
Looking up from the laptop, Bobby kindly waves to her. "Hey sis. I'm just looking for a new job."
"Why? Don't you got Lally's?" Seriously. How many jobs is her brother going to take? At this point he might as well have every single job in Royal Woods.
"I got laid off." He sadly answered with his eyes casting downward towards the floor.
"Really? Why!?" Bobby was a great worker. Why on Earth would they kick him to the curve? What kind of numbskulls are running that store?
"The store had to close down due to the lack of customers. Now I gotta find a new job to work at, which currently isn't going very well for me as I can't find any job openings." It was just his luck that every job in Royal Woods was already taken. Maybe there's something in Hazeltucky he could pick up.
"Why even look? You already have more than enough jobs."
"It's just something I need to do." Bobby insisted for every paycheck he gets, it helps them all out.
"Well, if you're so sure on getting yet another job. Then you should go see one of those job counselor's, I heard they give out good advice for people looking for work." Ronnie Anne remarked for she knew the guy who worked at Burpin Burger greatly benefited from it.
"Of course! Why didn't I think of that!" Raising off the chair as fast as a boy waking up on Christmas morning. A joyful Bobby rushes over to his sister, giving her a rather tight hug. "Thanks Nini! You always know what to say."
Releasing her from the hug, Bobby rushes out of the house to go find a job counselor to help him out on his current dilemma. Shortly after his departure his sister places both hands on her hips, feeling rather proud of herself for it always felt good to help out family, even if Bobby says her embarrassing nickname that should never be called out in public or else it would outright destroy her reputation of being the most toughest girl in school.
Now Ronnie Anne also understood on why her brother is taking up so many jobs as of lately, but still; he shouldn't be working ten jobs just to support them, one or two is more than enough. If he wasn't careful, he may have a burnout from all the stress of having so many jobs, something she really hoped their mother wouldn't be witnessing. She didn't need the added stress of Bobby breaking down during her struggle of maintaining the household as a single parent.
Deep down though, Ronnie Anne had a good feeling that the other reason he is taking in so many jobs was to fill in the role their dad left behind. She greatly missed him to and has coped with it her own way by going to the gym to beat up a punching bag and doing several wrestling matches with several people.
In her opinion, it was certainly way better than taking more than one job, plus it gives her a chance to improve her favorite wrestling moves.
But by all else though. She really hoped that this would be the last job Bobby would apply for.
After finding the job counselor building on the same street as the library. Bobby heads into the building, where after taking in a number from the receptionist, he sat himself down on a chair that was in the middle of the line of light grey chairs that stood in the middle of the waiting room with grey walls, decorative plants, a table with magazines on it, and a boxy TV hanging on the corner with some cooking show Bobby wasn't very familiar with.
Bobby also noticed that there are about two other people sitting in the room with him, both weren't paying attention to him as they are either looking at their phone or a book. Silently watching them doing those activities and upon knowing it may take a while for his number to be called up. Bobby took out his own phone and decided to text his girlfriend in order to pass some of the time.
"Hey babe."
He didn't need to wait for her response for very long as less than a second later, her reply came through. "Hey Boo-boo Bear. Did you find a new job yet?"
"Unfortunately not yet babe. I'm currently at the job counselor's to see if they can suggest something for me."
"I'm sure they can help you out. Your literally the greatest worker in Royal Woods."
"Aw thanks babe. :)"
"I do hope it's a security gig however. I do love a man in uniform."
"Maybe, but who knows what's in store for me."
"True dat. By the way. Are you excited for our dinner on Thursday?"
"Sure am babe, but I'm also a bit nervous. I really hope your parents are going to like me.''
"I'm positive they will. I've been giving them lots of positive reviews about you, but if you really want to get on their good sides; say something good about cowbells for my dad and ask my mom about her novel."
"Cowbells and your mom's novel. Got it."
"Number 87. Number 87." The receptionist then suddenly called out, interrupting Bobby's text conversation with Lori as he raises his head up in attention. "Your up."
"Op, I gotta go now babe. Talk to you later."
"Good luck, Boo-boo Bear."
Putting his phone away. Bobby gets up from his seat and fallows the receptionist down a hallway of doors until reaching the last one on the left. Once there; the receptionist gestures for Bobby to head on in.
Entering into the room. Bobby is met with a mid-aged man with slight facial hair and glasses, wearing a purple shirt and black tie, looking up at him from behind a wooden desk with a bugs bunny figurine in-between a computer, and a name tag that read: "Dave Miller".
Motioning him to come in, Bobby takes a seat across from him with the best posture in order to make himself look presentable. It's a thing his body is hardwired to do after taking many interviews in the past.
"Hello there Mr. Miller. Um, I'm sorry for coming here without calling in advance. I just got too excited on the aspect of gaining a new job to call in for an appointment."
"Indeed." He spoke in a slightly deep voice. "You are certainly a last minute showing. How lucky that I just so happen to be having a slow day Mr.-"
"Santiago. But my friends call me Bobby."
"Of course they do. It is your first name." He pointed out in amusement.
"True, but anyway. I was hoping that you can help me out with getting a new job. I've been recently laid off and I'm having a bit of trouble finding anything that will suit me."
"Well now Mr. Santiago. I can see what I can do, but first; I need to look over your profile. It's a standard procedure you know."
"No worries man. I completely understand." Restraining himself from leaning back on his chair to keep up the professionalism. Bobby silently watched Dave type into his keyboard and look intently on the screen as he switched through various files of other people.
If there's one thing Bobby can pick up on, it was on how silent it is in here, with the slight exception of the tiks of the clock hanging behind Dave, right along with the noises of his keyboard and mouse clicking, it is actually kind of peaceful in here.
"Ah; here we are." Reading his profile carefully, Dave slowly looked back to him with a bit of bewilderment. "It says here; you already got several jobs."
"Well" Bobby slightly shrugged with a sheepish smile. "Life at home is a bit complicated recently. I'm just doing what I can to help out."
"Divorced parents?"
"Yes. How did you know?" He asked in slight astonishment.
"I have a talent of reading people." Dave remarked before going right back over on reading the list of Bobby's current jobs. "Hmmm"
"Anything wrong?" Bobby asked in a bit of worry.
"It's nothing, just looking at your lifeguard job." Suddenly looking to him closely, Dave leans forward a bit as he seemed to be considering something. His stare actually kind of made Bobby uncomfortable, he didn't know why, but it had to do with those eyes.
Dave then suddenly rose himself up from his chair, startling Bobby a bit as the movement was just so sudden. Dave then quickly walked on over to the counter behind Bobby and poured himself a cup of coffee, lifting it up to his lips, he takes in a small sip and let's out a satisfied sigh. "That hit the spot. Do you want any coffee?"
"No thanks." Bobby didn't understand. Why did he go get a cup of coffee? It was such a sudden change.
Taking in another sip of coffee meanwhile; Dave looks up to the ceiling in deep consideration, until finally making a decision. "You know. I may have a job for you?"
"You do? Oh man that'll be great." Bobby exclaimed in relief.
"It's a security gig. More specifically; a night guard position for a special place. I warn you though; the hours are brutal and it doesn't pay much, but it should suit you just fine."
"A night guard." That would work nicely. Bobby always wanted to do something related with authority, plus it will fill his girlfriend's dreams of seeing him in a uniform. There was just one thing he needed to know about first before taking the job. "Um, what are these hours exactly?"
"Your shift would start up at twelve and end at six." Dave replied before taking another sip of his coffee.
Dang it! That was a problem, sure he worked late hours before, but never an entire night. His mother would be worried sick about him suffering from sleep depletion. So unfortunately; it looks like that he needs to turn down this job. "I'm terribly sorry Mr. Miller, but I can't work nights shifts."
"You sure? I seen on your profile that you work as a pizza delivery boy."
"What I mean is that I can't take shifts that require me to work all night. Do you have anything else I can do?"
"Sorry, but that's all I got." Dave stated much to Bobby's disappointment.
"Oh." Slowly raising himself up from his seat, Bobby sadly heads over to the door. "Sorry for wasting your time."
He would've left right there, but got stopped by Dave's voice before he could even take a step out of the room. "If you ever change your mind. Feel free to contact me." Handing him a white business card, Bobby raised it to his face and carefully studied the phone number, not knowing if he would contact him. Who knows. Perhaps he would get another job opportunity later.
As of right now however; he stuffs it into his pocket and walks away from the room, leaving Dave to finish up his coffee with a deep look in his eyes, knowing that Bobby will be back. He saw the desperation in his eyes.
"I'm so sorry you got laid off hijo. It was your favorite job." Maria exclaimed in comfort as they all sat around at the kitchen table for dinner. Since they didn't have these kinds of moments very often these days, they are taking full advantage of this the best they can before the night was over.
"It's okay mom. There was nothing I could've done and I'll be back with a new job in no time." Bobby reassured before taking a bite out of his chicken.
"Didn't you get help from the job counselor?' Ronnie Anne asked after taking a sip of her cup of sprite.
"Oh Mr. Miller did try to help me. In fact; he even offered me a sweet security guard gig."
"A security guard huh. That sounds very exciting." Maria remarked. She's seen several of the security guards in action at work, dealing with unruly family members, friends, or patients who go a bit crazy when things don't go their way.
"It does and I wanted to do it, but I turned it down."
If Ronnie Anne had sprite in her mouth, she would of spitted it out right then and there. "You turned it down? Why on Earth would you do that?" He was seriously missing a opportunity to hit bad guys with one of those baton sticks.
"I would have to work the night shift." Bobby simply replied.
"But you already take night shifts." Ronnie Anne pointed out.
"I mean from twelve to six AM." Bobby clarified.
"Yes. That would definitely be a problem. You do need your sleep and staying up through the night could cause you some serious health problems." Maria stated for she had read on what multiple nights without sleep can do to someone.
"But couldn't he just sleep before his shift." That was the most simplest solution in Ronnie Anne's opinion.
"I thought of that, but then I started thinking about my other jobs. What if I accidentally sleep through one of my shifts? I don't wanna loose another job." Bobby could just see it now. Him sleeping in bed for a couple minutes, but then he wakes up to find out that he missed a shift, then immediately afterwards one of his bosses will angrily call him and then promptly fire him on the spot. He didn't wanna go through that.
"That's very good judgement Bobby. You just need to focus on your current jobs, I honestly don't think you need to get another one. I know that you are worried over the current status of the household, but I can reassure you that mine and your paychecks are good enough to keep us afloat. Besides; you should keep the extra money for yourself for it is your money after all."
"I know mom, but I feel more comfortable on helping you out." Bobby replied with a gentle smile.
"I don't know how I got so lucky on getting such a sweet, considerate son." Reaching over with a chuckle, she ruffles up his hair a bit before turning to address her daughter. "So how was your day Ronalda? Did any of those fancy tricks on that new ramp?"
"You bet! You should've seen me. I was flying through the air like Superman! Did several half pipes! And I even taught this kid on how to do some basic flips."
"That was very nice of you. Did she do good?"
"We had a few slip ups." Ronnie Anne admitted, recalling the kid falling three or four times. "But she was a very fast learner." It really warmed her heart watching her give out a joyful cheer after finally doing a simple flip. It heavily reminds her on how enthusiastic she had been, when she did her first flip.
Next time; she'll teach her on how to jump the ramps. There may be a few falls, but it'll be very rewarding after pulling it off.
"Just make sure you don't push her too far sweetie." Maria gently reminded as she cuts a piece of chicken.
"No worries. I got it completely under control." After all; Ronnie Anne fully believed that she is a good teacher. At least in skateboarding.
The family continue to eat and chat throughout dinner with Maria recalling an event in the hospital today, where one of the front desk ladies accidentally brought in her husband's lunch with her. It was funny because that meant her husband has her lunch after both of them were in such a rush this morning. After she was done with her tale from work, Ronnie Anne started to talk about her full list of summer plans, ranging from swimming at the pool; to a fun day at Dairyland.
After dinner; they then settled down on the couch to watch the newest episode of both Dream Boat and Kitchen Ambush with Guy Grazer visiting the Aloha Comrade. After that; they spent the rest of the evening doing their own things, until it was time for all of them to get to bed.
Bobby in his white, night shirt and green boxers is the very last one to switch off the light. Letting out a loud yawn, Bobby couldn't wait to lay his head down on that comfy pillow after such a long day. Climbing into bed, he gets himself comfortable by lying on his side and fell into a quick sleep the moment he closed his eyes.
Cheerful Mexican music played through the radio in the brightly lit kitchen of Bobby's old house. Gleefully listening to it as he bobbed his head up and down to the music, a twelve year old Bobby helped out his dad with placing the last toppings onto their very own pizza.
"Oh boy. I can't wait to eat this pizza dad."
"Me to Bobby. There's something more delicious of a pizza made by your very own hands."
"Because it's made by love?" Bobby innocently asked.
"That and mostly because we don't need to pay for one." His father shrugged as he placed down the last topping. "Hmm mmm. The Santiago Pizza is now ready to be cooked."
"Alright! This is going to be the best pizza ever."
"You bet hijo. After all; I don't know anyone else who has made a lettuce, tomato, and cinnamon flavored pizza." Taking the pizza, he goes over to the oven and gently places it in, then sets the timer to tell them when it was done cooking, while they watched it bake together through the oven window. In the background; the cheerful music plays well into another cheerful song.
Twenty minutes later. The oven dings to signal them both that the pizza was now ready to take out.
"Aw right. Let's see how it turned out." Putting on some oven mitts, he opens up the oven and they are both met with a interesting cinnamon like smell.
"Whoa! That's sure a strong smell." Bobby exclaimed as he took a couple steps back.
"Let's go see how it tastes." Taking it over to the table, where both his little sister and mother are waiting. They all watched as dad cut the pizza into equal slices and gave each of them one piece.
Picking his piece up, (after waiting for it to cool down a bit), Bobby takes one bite and slowly nodded his head for it wasn't terrible, but wasn't exactly the greatest pizza in the world.
Beside him; his father also nodded a bit before swallowing it. "Hmmm. I think we need to lessen up the cinnamon."
"Totally dad. It has this weird after taste."
"At least Ronnie Anne likes it." His mother spoke up as she directed their gaze over to Ronnie Anne, who had ate up her whole slice before shrugging. "What? I like the taste."
The statement was simple, but it was enough to cause the whole family to go into a laughing fit. In the middle of his laughter, Bobby looked at his entire family with a bright smile for he knew that they were going to be together forever, no matter what life throws at them.
