Coming home much later in the day right at around sunset, there are two things Ronnie Anne immediately noticed. One: Bobby is already gone and two: her mom is sitting down on the couch in her regular everyday clothes, quietly watching TV. "Hi Ronnie Anne."
"Hey mom." She happily greeted. "You got the night off?"
"Oh yes. Ashley took in my late night shift, letting me have a nice, relaxing evening." It's an unexpected pleasure and she was going to take every single advantage of it. Ronnie Anne liked it to for it's always great to have her mother home for the entire night, sure she was most likely going to turn in early, but at least she could spend some time with her while she's still up.
"That's great mom. And I take it Bobby has already left for work?"
"He did, but he wanted to catch a bite to eat first. Says his co-worker had made him crave for some Burpin Burger." She exclaimed while not noticing the slightly disappointed look on her daughter.
Not only did she fail on getting to her brother and tell him about the surprisingly very disturbing backstory of Freddy's, but he also has the nerve to head on over to Burpin Burger without her. She really wanted to try that BurgerZilla for herself as she has heard some rather good, juicy things about it.
Guess she'll have to tell him about it sometime later tomorrow when she has the chance. Sure; she could just text or call him right now, but it'll probably be better to tell him when he's home. Don't want to scare him away during the job.
As for right now. She is feeling rather hungry herself, and seeing on how her mom has just fallen asleep on the couch. She might as well begin cooking a nice dinner just for the two of them.
Switching from the camera showing the south side of the main room to the one overlooking the kitchen. Bobby checks for anything amiss with a very watchful eye. So far; he doesn't see anything suspicious to get himself alarmed about, but he couldn't let that ease him up for all he knew, someone could be hiding out of the camera's view or in the shadows.
Deciding that one more camera sweep was in order. Bobby casually flips through all of the cameras; passing by a corner in the main room, the front of the restrooms, above the back of the prize counter, a hallway leading up to a supply closet, a backroom with all sorts of items, another backroom where the robot parts are stored in, the show stage, the arcade.
Suddenly stopping on his camera flip. Bobby quickly switches back over to the show stage as he could've sworn that he saw a brief image of the three animatronics staring right back at the camera. Looking at them now; they were still in their frozen positions from what he saw last night.
That's odd, he was sure he saw them staring back at him.
Perhaps after looking through these cameras for more than thirty minutes, he was beginning to see things as a result. That was the most logical explanation for there was no way they had moved for that brief second without him noticing them going back into their original position.
Seeing how he needed a much needed break of checking over the cameras, he turns away from them to look at the lockers instead. Then by letting himself stretch back a bit in order to glance up to the ceiling with the fan creating a soothing background noise, Bobby slowly finds himself relaxing.
But by having his back now facing the cameras, he fails to notice that on the camera facing the smaller stage. The curtains were slowly moving apart, revealing one glowing eye right behind a open mouth of a fox's snout.
The camera then abruptly switched over to a blank, blue screen for a couple of seconds before turning back on, which now reveals the fully open curtains of the now empty stage.
On the other camera overlooking the hallway towards the office. A shadow of the fox with its hooked hand raised up, stood behind the door.
Unaware of these events happening LIVE right behind him. Bobby let's the soothing sounds of the running fan to drift himself off into a easy, deep sleep.
Holding out a piece of white bread for the approaching hungry duck. Bobby releases a series of lighthearted laughs as the bird took it right out of his hand and gobbled it up with a series of shakes.
It's a overall very nice day to be feeding some ducks at the park; a bright sun in the sky with very few large puffy clouds drifting pass overhead, a cool, gentle breeze blows through, and everything is in full bloom.
"Remember to watch your fingers Bobby. They may have no teeth, but they can still bite." His dad gently cautioned from the bench behind him with the half empty bag of bread standing near his leg.
"Aw! But dad. How can anything this cute hurt anyone?" As if the universe was listening to him and wanted a quick laugh at his expense. The duck he had just fed suddenly lunged her head forward and bit him right on the index finger.
Shooting straight up to his feet, Bobby held his finger in pain for it burned like fire. "OUCH! Papa! The duck bit me!"
Turning around fast, he shockingly finds that his dad wasn't there. The only thing that remained is the bag of bread that fluttered in the wind. In fact looking around while still holding onto his poor finger, he sees that everyone, including the ducks have mysteriously vanished. Where did everyone go? Did the ice cream truck pull up?
Moving around the park in search of other people, Bobby did eventually find some, but it wasn't the ones he was looking for. Standing on top of a small hill, twenty feet away from him were those kids again and just like the night before, they all had that distrustful demeanor of him. Well; except for the tiara wearing one, who now looked at him unimpressed after watching him cry out to his dad like a baby after that duck bit him.
He didn't know why they were in his dream again? But perhaps this time he can break the ice between him and them. So once again, he took one, slow step towards them with his hands up. "Hello again. I know we kind of gotten off on the wrong foot yesterday, but perhaps this time; we can start being on more friendlier terms with each other."
Taking two more steps closer to them, they remained where they stand with unchanging expressions. Maybe that was a good sign. "Do you have any names? My name is Roberto Alejandro Martinez-Millan Luis Santiago, Jr. Or Bobby for short."
One of them finally changed their expressions. It was the one in the red hat, who has switched to full out puzzlement as she tried to fully comprehend his name while scratching her butt. Feeling that it was okay to get in more closer, Bobby gets about ten feet away from them, when they once again scattered in different directions and ran.
Learning from his painful lesson last night. Bobby this time chases after the one in the red hat, leading him downhill which in turn gave him extra momentum to catch up with the fleeing girl. They reached the bottom of the hill, when he reached forward and grabbed hold of her shoulder.
He was about to turn her around when a strong force from his right side, completely knocked him off his feet. Landing on the grass with a grunt, he merely raises himself up, when the sting of a sharp hook slashing against his cheek causes him to wince in pain as fresh blood splattered onto the grass.
Reaching up completely stunned over the sudden stinging pain across his cheek. Bobby gently rubs his cut before pulling back to look at the fresh blood on his two fingers. Glancing his gaze up to whoever struck him, he sees the girl with the number 1 jersey is standing protectively in front of the younger girl with her fresh bloody hook raised up next to her face.
Opening her mouth, wires came dangling out as a disoriented voice that's half robotic and half human spoke out. "STAY AWAY FROM MY SISTER! SCUMBAG!"
Lunging for him with a in-human scream. The last thing Bobby sees is her eyes turning black with blood coming out of them like tear marks.
Waking up from his nightmare. Both of Bobby's hearing and site were assaulted by a combination of lights flickering and loud rock music blaring out through the speaker.
Covering his ears up from the sudden assault. The office light flickers madly as all of the monitors showed nothing but static with the occasional glitches. If it wasn't for these events taking place right now, Bobby would've taken notice that he was now leaning against the wall instead of sitting on the chair or that the door was wide open.
Remembering on what he needed to do in case something like this happens. Bobby gets up from the floor and raced over to the generator, flipping it off it causes everything to turn pitch black for about five seconds before Bobby switched it back on.
Having everything go back to a much more calming demeanor. Bobby sits himself back down onto the chair with great relief that both the dream and the building's power going crazy is finally over, allowing him to recollect on how real that dream was, right along with the sting on his cheek. It was almost like he could still feel it; right along with the blood leaking down his face right at this second.
Tilting his head back for a quick stretch, Bobby is suddenly startled by the sound of running footsteps retreating away from the office. It puts him on high enough alert to jump off the chair and grab hold of the flashlight from the desk in complete reflex, then slowly; he shuffled his way over to the door, where he pokes his upper body out and shined the light down the empty hallway.
Moving the light over to the other doors for someone may be hiding within the doorways, he sees that they were still closed meaning that whoever was running away earlier, they were somewhere in the main room.
Now if there was someone in here, he wasn't just going to go running in with his flashlight raised up like some brave hero. He needed a complete visual of the area first by checking the cameras as the last thing he wanted was to get jumped from behind.
Checking each camera overlooking the main room. He doesn't really see anyone standing anywhere near the tables, the walls with either the pizza decorations or the children's drawings, or sees any outlines of someone hiding in the darker areas. Wherever this intruder was? They are staying well out of the camera's view.
What was he going to do? He supposed that as the night guard; he has to scare the intruder off. Oh how he wished that he had something more than a flashlight to defend himself against a possible intruder.
Holding in a gulp. Bobby slowly went out of the office and down to the main area where he takes a good sweep around the area with the light coming up with nothing but empty room. Going over to the middle of the room, he then jumps and spun his body towards the direction of the lobby as a figure stood behind the front doors, tapping on the glass has gotten his full attention.
Stepping under the arch for a much more closer look at the mysterious figure. Bobby can make out that it was a female police officer with blond hair straighten out in a ponytail.
Curious on why a cop was here? Bobby walked on over to the door while not noticing the hunched over figure standing at the edge of the arcade, posed to run at him with its sharp hook raised up to its chest.
Opening the door; the female officer gives him a gentle smile that's accompanied with a polite nod. "Hello. I see that your doing a patrol around the place."
"Yes officer. I heard something earlier, it sounded like someone was running around the place, so I figured that someone might be in here. Have you seen anyone running out?" Perhaps the sight of a police officer was enough to scare the intruder away, which would be great for he doesn't need to fear about someone being inside the place with him, waiting to strike when he least expects it.
"I haven't seen anyone. Believe me. I would have seen someone coming out from my car over there." Pointing over to her police cruiser parked on the very end of the parking lot briefly, she then gives Bobby a more firmer smile. "You want me to take a look around?"
"That would be great officer." Stepping aside for her to come in, Bobby now has much more confidence for with someone in the police force here. That intruder now has no chance of ambushing him.
And so for the next pass forty minutes, they both do a great sweep around the restaurant, checking out every nook and cranny of the place, but overall found no evidence of anyone being in here with them. After their long search, they went back into the office and sat down on two chairs, and with them settled down. The officer finally takes the chance to address something about Bobby that she quickly took notice, upon first meeting him at the entrance.
"So did you notice that you have a nasty cut on your cheek?"
The statement very well surprised Bobby enough to slowly reach up to his cheek, wincing upon touching it. Incredibly; it was on the exact same place where that girl in the jersy slashed him in his dream. "What on Earth?"
"Did your intruder do this to you?" The officer questioned as she took out a tissue and gently cleaned out the wound.
"I don't know. My only recollection on how I got this cut was from this girl in a number one jersey in this recent nightmare I had." This was just so unreal.
Spraying some disinfectant on the wound, which did sting a bit, she cleans out more of it before finally pulling away. "Your saying that you experienced a Freddy Krueger moment." She lightly joked.
"I honestly don't know officer." Bobby sighed as with everything that has happened tonight going through his mind, it was hard to make sense of it. He was only brought out of it, when the officer plastered a bandage onto his cheek with a very satisfied smile.
"There we go. Just keep that bandage on and your cheek will be all better in no time."
"Thanks Officer."
"Oh you can call me Vanessa; Mr-"
"Bobby Santiago." He replied. She was definitely nice, but he still needed to know one important thing though. "So what brings you here? I can't imagine a pizza restaurant is causing any trouble to bring a police officer all the way over here."
"Freddy's is on my route. I used to come here often when it was open. You can say it's the closest thing for me to relieve my experiences here by passing it twice a week."
"Does anything ever happen here often?" He might as well hear on how much risk he would be in with any criminal activity in the area.
"I occasionally stop a few drunks and vandals, but it's pretty much quiet. Especially in this overall area around Freddy's. You can say the place gives out an aurora of some sorts that keeps people away."
"Or no one wants to break into a kid's pizza restaurant." Bobby pointed out.
"That to." Vanessa shrugged with her eyes gazing on over to the monitors with deep thoughts of consideration. "So you've been here long?"
"I actually just started this gig yesterday. This is my second night on the job and I can say these nights have been really strange. What with these dreams, me getting hurt in real life after experiencing pain in them, not to mention those quick footsteps I swore I heard earlier." He recollected.
Still looking over to the monitors, specifically; the ones aiming at both stages in silence for only a moment, Vanessa then turn her gaze back over to him with a slight shake of her head and that trademark smile she seemed to have. "Sounds like a typical night at Freddy's."
"It does?" Bobby question in confusion.
"Yep. This place can really get to people from how isolated it is from everything else. It can really make anyone more alert and fearful as they often don't realize that they're truly alone and must make do with whatever they have. It'll happen to you, which is why you're going to quit."
"Yeah. I- wait; quit?" That certainly came out of left field. There was no way he was going to quit this job. Not over his dead body. He goes to reply to her on what he thought, but by then she is already up and stood near the door with a much more excited smile.
"I taken you haven't met them yet?"
"Met who?" Was he supposed to meet someone?
"The animals on stage?" She clarified.
"Oh. Yeah I met them."
"But not when they're doing a show?"
"They still work?" Surely their robotic parts must have become rusty and stiff by now.
"Follow me."
Doing so; Bobby follows her down the hall and to the door leading back into the main room, where she suddenly halts in her tracks, reached over to the wall that with a flip from a couple of light switches. The entire room lit up brightly, including the arcade which buzzed and booted up as endless demos played on several screens.
Whistling to himself in amazement, Bobby continues to fallow Vanessa into the middle of the room. Why from how lit this place was now, Bobby can see on how colorful the carpet of the floor was. But still; he needed to know about Vanessa's earlier statement.
"So why do you think that I'm going to quit this job?"
"Come on Bobby. Do you honestly tell me that you can see yourself working alone in this place for twenty or forty years?" She question without breaking her stride.
"I do have other jobs. I just need this one to fully pay the bills." He remarked in clarification.
"Busy guy aren't you. I bet all those other jobs didn't have any children going missing."
Stopping in his tracks, Bobby at first stayed silent for he needed to make sure that he heard that right. "Wait. what?"
Stopping in front of the same red button on the wall that he saw on the training tape yesterday. Vanessa turns to him like a excited game show host presenting the top prize. "Prepare to have your mind completely blown."
Slamming the button. A mechanical roar came to life as the colorful lights from both stages turn on, then had their curtains part ways for the four animatronics that all began to move around.
The three on the main stage; moved their torsos left and right to mimic dancing, the bunny's hands played the guitar with the top of its ears tilting in and outwards, the chicken lifted the plate with the cupcake proudly up as the pastry moves its mouth up and down to mimic talking. Then there was Freddy, who sang proudly into his microphone, while joyfully waving out to a nonexistent crowd that used to cheer for him and his friends.
On the smaller stage; the pirate fox raised its hooked hand up to its chin, its eye patch would occasionally open up to reveal its other eye, then it would close both of them with a wide open mouth.
Watching them silently. Bobby wasn't really sure on what to make of this live performance. They certainly moved smoothly, but with those eyes, the exposed endoskeleton parts of the pirate fox or the short glimpses on the main trio, or to simply just their teeth. It actually made Bobby a little creeped out for he has certainly entered the uncanny valley with these guys.
The bunny's gaze then turned to him and stayed firmly locked on him, even as the rest of its body moved around. The head then twitches left to right at a quick pace until finally turning away from him and back to Freddy much to Bobby's overall relief.
As for the song itself, it was from one of the famous rock star's; Mick Swagger's library of songs. He doesn't know all of his songs as he only occasionally listens to him, but he doesn't need to be a super fan to know that it was one of his most famous songs. "Transformation"
On the sidelines; Vanessa smiled fondly at them as if seeing a couple of old friends after a long time of being apart. Bobby guesses that you had to have been here to fully appreciate this performance of robotic engineering. She eventually turns to face him with one hand extended out in invitation.
"You wanna dance?" She offered him.
"Sorry, but I have a girlfriend." He quickly objected.
"We can just do some casual dancing if you like?" A great amount of sparks just then suddenly shot out of the bunny's guitar causing them both to look back up to the two stages as all of the animatronics slowly grinded down to a halt. The curtains then went back into place, where only a few seconds before it completely covered up the trio, Freddy's eyes remain fixed on Bobby, creeping him out further.
Releasing a snort of amusement, Vanessa slowly shook her head. "I guess dancing is out of the question."
"Excuse me, but. Can we please get back to what you said about missing children earlier." Bobby remarked after gently tabbing her shoulder blade.
"It's the main reason why the place shut down. I'm surprised you never heard of it, though I supposed they wouldn't really say anything about it during the job interview." She exclaimed with a bit of humor.
Bobby on the other hand is completely speechless. Children actually went missing here, he wanted to find out about the mystery of Freddy's closure, but that was way too much information for his liking. Oh god! Were those creepy kids he's been seeing in his dreams them? Did he actually encounter some ghosts? The mere aspect alone terrified him as he's afraid of anything related to ghosts.
He's so scared right now, he nearly launched himself off the floor when Vanessa places a hand on his shoulder. "I know it's terrifying to think of. But calm yourself down."
"How can I possibly do that?" He's very much certain that his feelings about the place has drastically went downhill.
"I'll show you." Now walking on over behind the prize counter. Vanessa looks around a bit until finally finding on what she was looking for. "Here it is."
Pulling out a golden badge, she walks back over to him and stuck it right on the chest of his vest. Looking at it himself, the badge had Freddy's face with security imprinted above it. "There we go. You now look the part."
A short silence overtakes the room as Bobby continues to inspect the badge, eventually he began to talk again, but in a much more down tone. "This is a nice badge and all, but this really isn't taking my mind off those poor children."
"Are you going to quit then?" She question him. 'It's perfectly understandable if you do."
While that was very much true as the big reveal put a big damper on his work ethics, especially with the aspects of this place possibly being haunted by those children. Bobby however found that he just couldn't leave this job, not when his family's finances are at stake. "No. I need this job."
"Your very brave then." Vanessa complimented with an admirable smile.
"I suppose it does." The compliment did overall give him a small boost of confidence.
Vanessa however suddenly got more serious. "Let me give you a small piece of advice if your so insisted on staying here."
"And what's that?" He curiously asked for any advice is good.
"Things may get a bit spooky here, but you must keep a complete calm and level headed mind. It may keep you alive."
Very much alarmed over that last statement of that sentence, Bobby grew even more afraid. "Wh-what do you mean by that?"
The look she suddenly given him made him step back a bit. It seemed like that she really wanted to tell him something, but just couldn't no matter how much it was eating her from the inside. "Your just going to have to trust me."
He wanted to probe her further on the whole him staying alive statement. Plus he really wasn't even sure that he should trust her, sure she was nice, but he only just met her an hour ago. The only reason why he was holding himself back was simply because she is a police officer and as a fellow enforcer of the law. He has to respect her on keeping certain things private. Even if it is important for his overall safety.
"You know." She then announced. "Seeing how it's only five. How about I stay here and keep you company for the rest of your shift."
"You sure? Don't you need to patrol the rest of the area?" Bobby pointed out.
"Technically yes, but it's usually dead up here anyways. Besides; it may be best to have backup with you. You know; just in case whatever you heard earlier is still in here." She replied.
"That's a good point." He has to admit. Having backup from a police officer would deter any attack from any vandal or thug.
So for the next hour. The two sat down at one of the booths and had a nice chat with Bobby explaining to her on why he took this job, right along with some information about his relationship with his family. Vanessa in the meantime; talked about her life as a police officer, it really wasn't that much exciting as it was just usually the routine traffic stops, listening to the police radio, and the occasional breaking up fights at the biker hangout. She also provided him with some more, but much more light-hearted information of Freddy's, such as the fact that the bunny's, chicken's and fox's names were Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy or that the restaurant owed its very existence to a small diner that's equally abandon, but far more secluded than this place.
As Bobby listened to her. He began to find that she was actually very pleasant to be around, even if she kept several details to herself; like her family life or on what her childhood was like. But as they chatted with each other, Bobby couldn't help but get the feeling that he was being watched by a multiple pair of eyes.
Before they knew it, Bobby's watch beeped 6 AM; completely cutting off their conversation as he went to shut it off. "Well; looks like my shift's over."
"So it does. Mind escorting me to the exit?" She asked with a bit of humor in her tone.
"Sure. But first I need to put this vest away." He informed her.
"Take your time." She assured him as she got up to stretch out her arms.
Going back into the office, Bobby puts away his vest and shuts off the power. He then meets Vanessa back underneath the arch and walked with her to the exit.
As he goes to lock up the gates; she went into her police cruiser and pulls up to him just as he placed in the lock.
"Hey. Let me give you some more advice before I head off. This place may get a little bit intimidating, but like I said earlier; just as long as you keep a calm mind. You'll do just fine here."
Bobby still didn't know what she meant by that, but he'll keep that in mind. She gives him one last smile before finally driving out of the parking lot and down the road. Leaving Bobby to get into his car and head himself home, where he'll catch some more sleep, then prepare himself for the big dinner date with Lori's family.
He couldn't wait to meet them, he's so excited that he wished that he could fast forward time just so it could start right now. In the back of his mind; he is beginning to feel very confident that he would make a very good impression on them, he'll even share one of his dad's best jokes with them.
Oh yes! This dinner was going to be a big stepup to both his and Lori's relationship. Nothing can go wrong tonight.
