Chapter 48: Revenge
Brothers reunited!
Darth Maul, the sinister Sith thought to have been destroyed so many years ago by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi was found alive by his brother, Savage Opress and taken back to Mother Talzin on Dathomir.
Though Darth Maul's memory has yet to be fully restored, his need for vengeance has awakened, more powerful than ever.
Nadia was eating breakfast was at the refectories of the Jedi Temple, eating a plate of Corellian-style hotcakes with poptree syrup and a glass of blue milk.
Ferus stood next to his girlfriend as he ate his plate of bantha-butter pancakes.
"So what do you think of the hotcakes?"Ferus questioned.
"They're okay."Nadia said simply."But my great-grandmother Mirax Horn made them far better."
"You said you wanted to talk about something very important to me."Nadia said with a soft smile.
"Umm, Nadia? I need to tell you something."Ferus admitted."We've been dating for a year now and I was wondering..."
"Yes?"Nadia asked.
"If you would like to meet my parents."Ferus suggested.
A surprised look appeared on Nadia's face.
"Oh um..."Nadia said and blushed shyly."Wow. So your planning to take our relationship to the next level?"
Ferus chuckled slightly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"So what do you say, Dia?"Ferus asked.
Ferus carefully held Nadia's hands with a hopeful expression.
Nadia blushed a bit more and smiled at her boyfriend.
"Yes, Ferus."Nadia agreed with a nod."I would love to meet you parents."
"Great."Ferus remarked."I'll inform Anakin and Padme about it."
"There you guys are."
Both Nadia and Ferus became startled and stopped holding hands when they saw Ahsoka.
"Soka, please don't sneak up on us like that."Nadia grumbled.
Ahsoka laughed lightly at her best friend's respond.
"Sorry, guys. Couldn't help myself."Ahsoka apologised with a smirk."You two are really heading to the next level."
Ferus nodded as Nadia ate another piece of her hotcake.
"You could say that."Ferus responded."But we're still a long journey from bended knee to the altar."
"If you two end up in the altar, I want to be your best woman."Ahsoka insisted.
Nadia smirked at Ahsoka.
"Thanks, Soka."Nadia thanked."But you know you'll also have to act as a coordinator and detail-wrangler as well as handling all the little things that the groom shouldn't have to worry about."
"That's a fair point."Ahsoka chuckled.
Ferus frowned at Nadia's reply as he ate a bit more of his bantha-butter pancakes.
"I don't worry too much."Ferus muttered.
After finishing breakfast with Ferus, Nadia went to look for Obi-Wan.
The raven haired girl smirked as she caught sight of Caleb giving her small wave before following after his Master, Depa Billaba, to a training room.
Nadia simply gave Caleb a slight wave before the boy joined his master.
After walking up to a nearby pillar, Nadia rested her back against and looked down for a moment in thought.
Her romantic relationship with Ferus was developing as her powers were growing with Obi-Wan's training.
However, she as many others weren't still happy that the Clone Wars were still happening.
But she sensed the Force was more out of balance.
Was it perhaps due to all the chaos and killing caused by the conflict?
If so, this was not right.
"Everything in this galaxy is getting so much darkness."Nadia thought with a troubled expression."Where is the light these days? It feels like the Jedi just aren't doing enough to stop Darth Sidious and the Clone Wars."
A wave of concern grew within Nadia.
"If that's true, what am I to do about it?"Nadia thought."Do I keep serving the Jedi Order after becoming the Jedi Knight or do I leave after that?"
"Boo!"
Nadia became startled and looked to her left side to see Olee Starstone looking at her with a bright grin.
Olee Starstone was an eighteen year old girl with jet black hair that was twisted around itself and pulled to the back with two sections falling before the shoulders held by small grey bows. The eyebrow-length bangs and short forelocks were cut straight across. Her eyes were azure blue. She wore a pale beige undertunic, an overtunic, a cloak with wide sleeves and matching trousers, a tabard, a broad sash tied around the waist with a belt and tall brown boots. She bore a blue lightsaber and was physically fit. But her best skills were as a researcher and historian like her original Master.
She was a Padawan, who was trained by the Jedi librarian Jocasta Nu and now Jedi Master Bol Chatak.
"Hi, Olee."Nadia answered with an unfazed look.
"Hey, Nadia."Olee greeted."Why so down?"
Nadia shrugged in response.
"Just in thought. Nothing else."Nadia retorted slightly."There have been a lot of people blaming the Jedi for the destructions in the galaxy."
"Yeah. I hear that as well here in Coruscant. It doesn't seem us, Jedi, aren't that popular as we usually were anymore."Olee admitted."But at least you and Ahsoka are sort of popular."
"Because of our masters; the famous negotiator and the bug-eating pretty boy."Nadia declared with a small smirk.
Olee laughed lightly at Nadia's reply.
Nadia suddenly winced when she heard screaming of terrified children reverberated in her mind.
The raven haired girl scowled as she held her head causing Olee to become alarmed.
"Are you okay, Nadia?"Olee questioned in concern.
Nadia stopped holding her head when she felt the pain go away.
"I'm fine. I felt a disturbance."Nadia answered with a frown."I'm going to talk to my master. See you around, Olee."
Nadia headed off to look for her master and decided to check the Jedi Temple's communication center.
She carefully peeked her head, only to become shocked at what she saw.
Obi-Wan, Mace Windu and Master Yoda were watching a hologram of five innocent civilians being taken hostages.
Plo Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi were present at the meeting as holograms.
The screams of civilians were heard in the background.
Nadia became disturbed when she caught sight of a being that appeared to be a Dathomirian Zabrak male with cybernetic legs next to the innocent civilians and immediately realised who he was.
Darth Maul.
The monster who killed Obi-Wan's Master Qui-Gon Jinn during the Invasion of Naboo.
"There will be more innocent blood on your hands, Kenobi! Unless you come here, face me!"Maul growled in fury."Come alone and if you do not, this world will burn!"
Nadia quickly turned her head away in shock as Maul then slaughtered the inhabitants with his red lightsaber.
Mace Windu then paused the hologram on Maul.
"I have to go."Obi-Wan declared.
"Not alone you're not."Mace Windu stated."We'll send a task force with you."
"No, you see what he's capable of."Obi-Wan commented."He's a broken, unbalanced monster. I've dealt with him before. I can do it again."
Nadia's eyes widen in disbelief.
Her Master was planning to face Maul by himself this time!
"I disagree."Mace Windu replied."This is clearly a trap."
"Against my better judgment, agree with Master Kenobi, I do."Master Yoda admitted."Finish what he started long ago, Obi-Wan must."
"I'm off to Raydonia."Obi-Wan informed.
Obi-Wan then walked out of the communication center, only for Nadia to tap his shoulder and earn his attention.
"Hello, Master."Nadia greeted.
"Nadia, were you listening to the meeting?"Obi-Wan questioned.
"Only the part where Darth Maul is threatening you to come to him by yourself."Nadia stated."You're going to need my help on this one."
"Nadia, I would advise you not to get involved."Obi-Wan declared."If this is Darth Maul, I must go alone."
Nadia shook her head.
"Master, please let me come with you."Nadia begged with a hint of worry."That monster was the one who killed your Master during the Invasion of Naboo. I don't want to end up losing you to him as well."
Obi-Wan placed his hands on Nadia's shoulders.
"I appreciate your concern over me, young one."Obi-Wan assured."But this is something I have to finish on my own and can't risk getting you involved in. Stay here and I'll be back soon."
Nadia looked down in disappointment.
"Okay, master."Nadia answered.
Obi-Wan then removed his hands from Nadia's shoulders and walked away from her.
When her master was out from sight, Nadia suddenly began to feel more worried.
If Obi-Wan was going to face Maul alone, it was likely that the former Sith apprentice had some sort of ally to back him up.
What else would explain his sudden return?
"No way, I'll let my own Master face that monster alone."Nadia thought with a frown.
Afterwards...
Obi-Wan travelled to a village on the planet Raydonia on his Eta-class shuttle.
There he saw everything was destroyed and no civilians were alive.
Obi-Wan walked in front of an old building that was on fire as he passed the other buildings that were now damaged and in ruin.
"Jedi!"
Obi-Wan glanced in front of him and saw Maul standing not far from the burned building.
"I have been waiting for you."Maul snarled.
"I'm not sure I've made your acquaintance."Obi-Wan responded.
Maul glared at Obi-Wan.
"I am surprised you could have forgotten me so easily after I killed your master and you left me for dead on Naboo."Maul scowled.
Obi-Wan's frown deepened.
The being in front of him was indeed Darth Maul.
"It is you."Obi-Wan said with a frown.
"You may have forgotten me, but I will never forget you!"Maul declared in fury."You cannot imagine the depths I would go to to stay alive, fuelled by my singular hatred for you."
"That may be so, but I defeated you before, and I can defeat you again."Obi-Wan replied firmly.
Obi-Wan activated his lightsaber and stood in his battle stance.
This caused the old Sith to let out a cruel chuckle.
"Don't be so certain."Maul answered darkly.
Then Savage Opress landed and appeared behind Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan frowned. "You."
The Jedi Master began to fight the Sith brothers.
But the two Siths were too strong for Obi-Wan to fight alone and he ended up getting defeated before being knocked into unconsciousness.
A T-6 shuttle arrived to Raydonia and arrived not far from the destroyed village.
As soon as the Jedi shuttle landed, Nadia came out of its cockpit and headed out to look for her master.
Nadia became horrified to see the bodies of young, old, male, and female alike strewn across the streets, but she couldn't let the sight distract her now.
The raven haired girl suddenly became alarmed when she felt another presence and slowly moved her hands to her lightsabers.
Nadia rushed to a ruined building and activated her lightsabers, only for her blades to be blocked by Asajj's red blades.
"Ventress?"Nadia said in disbelief.
"Aomori."Asajj scoffed."What are you doing here?"
Both Nadia and Asajj deactivated their lightsabers, but kept glaring at each other.
"I'm here to save my master from Darth Sidious' original apprentice, Darth Maul."Nadia admitted."What are you doing here?"
"I came to collect Savage Opress."Asajj replied."There's a bounty on his head."
Nadia looked at the Dathomirian female with a glimpse of confusion before remembering Dooku abandoned her during the Battle of Sullust and the former Sith assassin was working as a bounty hunter when General Grievous killed her people at the order of Darth Sidious.
"Well, it seems he's working with Maul."Nadia admitted."You're going to need my help to fend him off.""Well, it seems his working with Maul."Nadia admitted."You're going to need my help to fend him off."
Asajj scoffed at Nadia's reply.
"I have no desire to help any Jedi, Aomori."Asajj snarled."And besides, you're still a Padawan. You'll only get in the way."
Nadia frowned at the former assassin's respond.
"Well, I'm not your biggest fan either. But it doesn't seem we don't have another way."Nadia declared in a firm yet stern tone."You want your award money and I want my master back. Regardless, whose side we are on, we have common enemies on this one."
A light yet irritated snarl escaped Asajj's mouth.
"Fine."Asajj retorted."I'll help you."
"Wonderful."Nadia praised smugly."This must be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
"Don't push your luck, girl."Asajj muttered.
In the TR-RL3 Terrapin-class bulk tanker...
Maul and Savage brought Obi-Wan to their hijacked freighter to be tortured to death.
"Still as weak as ever."Maul retorted.
Maul slapped Obi-Wan on the face before Savage threw the Jedi Master in a pile of crates.
"And they call you, "Master."Maul stated disdainfully.
"You know, when I cut you in half, I should have aimed for your neck instead."Obi-Wan muttered in pain.
Savage punched a few crates away and threw Obi-Wan to the floor.
Maul then gestured Savage towards the entrance of the cockpit.
Savage nodded at his brother before slightly kicking Obi-Wan on his way by and heading to the cockpit to start the ship up.
As the TR-RL3 Terrapin-class bulk tanker prepared to take off from Raydonia, both Asajj and Nadia used the Force to leap onto the ship's roof before secretly heading inside it.
"Anything more to say?"Maul snarled.
"I like your new legs."Obi-Wan insulted with a hint of amusement."They make you look taller."
Using the Force, Maul grabbed Obi-Wan by the face before activating his lightsaber.
"I will make sure you stay awake long enough to feel every single cut."Maul admitted darkly."Your death will be beyond excruciating. You will suffer as I have suffered."
Savage returned back to the room causing Asajj to come out from her hiding place.
"What a surprise!"
Obi-Wan, Maul and Savage looked up to see Asajj standing up on the balcony.
"My former servant. Still an animal."Asajj replied casually before her gaze went on Maul."And you have a friend now."
"My brother."Savage replied.
"A brother?"Asajj mocked as if she was shocked."Looks like he's half the man you are, Savage. How unfortunate. I was looking for a challenge. Not some wretched castoffs from the Nightbrothers Clan. What a disappointment."
Asajj then headed linto the shadows with a bone-chilling cackle.
"Who is this, brother?"Maul asked.
"A Dathomir witch."Savage scowled."She betrayed me."
Ventress let out another wicked laugh as a door from above the balcony closed.
"She knows too much!"Maul snarled."Destroy her!"
Maul then backhanded Obi-Wan hard enough to knock him out.
The two Sith brothers then left the room just as Nadia came out of her hiding place and checked on Obi-Wan before Asajj joined her.
"Master, wake up."Nadia insisted.
"Kenobi, don't tell me someone's finally knocked the fight out of you."Asajj retorted as she slapped Obi-Wan hard on the face."Wake up!"
Obi-Wan groaned as he immediately woke up from the assassin's slap, making Nadia sigh in relief.
"Ventress?"Obi-Wan asked.
"It looks like me and your Padawan are here to rescue you."Asajj replied slightly.
Obi-Wan dusted himself off before becoming shocked to see Nadia next to Asajj.
"Hey."Nadia said with a wave.
"Nadia, didn't I tell you to stay in the temple?"Obi-Wan reminded.
Nadia raised an eye brow.
"And let you die? No, thank you."Nadia declared with a frown."At least it will be three against two."
Obi-Wan brought his attention back at Asajj.
"When did you become the good guy?"Obi-Wan questioned in curiosity.
"Don't insult me."Asajj scoffed.
"In our situation, the job here is not done yet."Obi-Wan replied.
Nadia nodded at Obi-Wan before the door of the balcony hissed open.
"The witch and the Jedi."Savage responded.
Obi-Wan, Nadia and Asajj glared at Savage.
"Here for our taking."Maul added coldly.
Maul stood from the opposite side of his brother and activated his lightsaber.
Asajj handed Obi-Wan one of her lightsabers.
"I want that back."Asajj reminded sharply.
"That's fine, red's not my colour."Obi-Wan replied.
Obi-Wan then activated the red blade.
"Looks like I'll act as the backup."Nadia remarked.
Nadia moved her hands to her two lightsabers as Asajj gave her a small glare.
"So long you're useful and don't get in the way, Aomori."Asajj warned.
Nadia lightly smirked as she stood behind her master and the former Sith assassin, ready to fight.
The two Jedi and the former Sith assassin form a circle while taking their fighting positions.
"Ready?"Obi-Wan asked.
"Like you even have to ask."Asajj responded.
Maul became focus on fighting Obi-Wan while Asajj started fighting Savage.
Nadia went out of the away from being impaled by the blades as Obi-Wan and Asajj swapped in one fluid motion.
The raven haired girl used the Force to throw crates at Maul and Savage, who easily slashed them with their red lightsabers to give both Obi-Wan and Asajj the opportunity to strike against their foes.
Nadia scurried off to the side a safer distance away and summoning her Force abilities again to wait for the right moment to strike.
When Obi-Wan and Asajj switched foes again, Savage managed to disarm Ventress and knock her over a crate causing her to bend awkwardly backwards.
"No, you don't!"Nadia retorted.
Nadia used the Force to throw Savage into a pile of crates to buy Asajj the time to straighten and regain her bearings.
As soon as Ventress had gathered herself, she jumped onto Savage's shoulders and began punching him in the face.
But Savage plucked Asajj and threw her into the crates above Nadia, who moved away to remain out of the fight.
"Ventress, here!"Nadia shouted.
Nadia quickly gave Ventress her yellow blade to use to fight back against Savage from being stabbed by his red double-bladed lightsaber.
The raven haired girl then ignited her aqua lightsaber before using the Force to summon her master's blade that was on Maul's belt into her hand when Obi-Wan managed to shove the Sith into a stack of crates.
"Master, catch!"Nadia called out.
Nadia threw the deactivated blade toward Obi-Wan and he easily caught his weapon.
"Thank you, young one!"Obi-Wan thanked and glanced at Asajj."Ventress!"
Obi-Wan threw the red lightsaber back to Asajj before activating his blue lightsaber to fight against Maul.
With the distraction of the switch, Savage began bringing his blade down against Asajj's blade while Maul kicked Obi-Wan so hard that the Jedi Master went smashing into the top crates and was there for a few moments before he hefted himself up into the balcony.
Nadia scurried along the edge, limping in her wounded state as she sought out Asajj's other fallen blade, her cyan lightsaber ready in case she needed to use it.
The female Padawan found it in the way back behind a stack of crates, activating the red blade and rushing towards Asajj.
"Need help?"Nadia asked.
"Gladly!"Asajj answered.
Nadia kicked Savage on the jaw to send him a few steps back before she and Ventress gave each other their rightful lightsabers.
The two of them then took turns fighting Savage, who was annoyingly spinning his double-bladed lightsaber in a circle that kept them at bay.
Nadia shot a small glance at Obi-Wan, who clashed his blue blade against Maul's red blade before focusing back at helping Ventress fight Savage.
"Your master, Qui-Gon Jinn, I gutted him while you stood helpless and watched."Maul snarled with an evil smirk."How did that make you feel, Obi-Wan?"
Obi-Wan let out an angry yell and attempted to slash Maul on the neck, but got kicked into the wall.
"Your rage has unbalanced you."Maul mocked."That is not the Jedi way, is it?"
Obi-Wan ran toward Maul, only to get kicked off the balcony and landed where Asajj and Nadia were.
"You okay, Master?"Nadia questioned in concern.
"I'm fine, Nadia, but we're outmatched."Obi-Wan replied.
"You want to run?"Asajj suggested.
"We learned from watching you."Obi-Wan admitted.
"Funny."Asajj mumbled.
"The cockpit then?"Nadia assumed.
"Now!"Obi-Wan ordered.
Asajj duelled Maul while Nadia fought Savage as Obi-Wan rushed to the door to the escape pod and opened it.
"Come on!"Obi-Wan called out."Come on!"
Nadia leaped out of the way before Savage attempted to impale her with his double-bladed lightsaber and successfully jumped back to Obi-Wan.
Ventress forced pushed Savage and went into the escape pod to join Obi-Wan and Nadia and shutting the door just before Maul could rush in.
The two Jedi and the former Sith assassin were in the escape pod to try and escape while two brothers were using their lightsabers to try and open the door.
"Hurry, Kenobi!"Asajj warned.
"I'm working on it!"Obi-Wan replied.
Obi-Wan began pressing a few buttons as Maul and Savage were getting close to break into the escape pod.
"Come on, hurry!"Asajj demanded.
"Now would be a good time, master!"Nadia shouted worriedly.
At the last moment, Obi-Wan slammed a button causing the escape pod to take off away from the bulk tanker.
Inside the Escape Pod...
Nadia patted in utter relief and exhaustion upon her, Obi-Wan and Asajj having to escape the two Siths that were close on killing them.
"Crap."Nadia murmured while rubbing her forehead."We just barely escaped by jettisoning the ship's cockpit."
"To me, Aomori, it was cutting it a little close."Asajj admitted.
"You do know, it's not over."Obi-Wan reminded.
"I know."Asajj replied.
"They'll be after the three of us now."Obi-Wan warned.
Nadia remained silent at her Master's reply as she carefully began rubbing her gloved wrists that ached a bit.
They escaped Maul and Savage.
But their fight with them and in the Clone Wars were far from over.
Season 4 finished! Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter!
