No regrets.
Arizona placed the phone back into her pocket, span round, opened the door to the attending's longue and made her way to exam room 2. She would be undeterred.
Okay, so that went well right? I mean, Carlos is going to have the guy 'seen to' by 'people' but that could mean a number of things. Ultimately, I was just informing the family member of a patient, its normal, I'm normal, this is normal. Just because this is my wife & father-in-law, who had threatened to have me 'taken care of' once, doesn't mean I'm going to be an accessory to murder.
She reached the exam room, it appeared everyone had surgery, patients or just wanted to give Callie some space, no one was outside. She took a deep breath and composed herself, she had to be the person her wife could rely on, not the psychopathic, furniture destroying crazed animal she'd briefly morphed into. She gently knocked and entered.
What was the term she once used? 'Breathtakingly stunning'? Yes, as accurate now as it was then. Callie's head was up, she was in a hospital gown and it looked like her face had been somewhat cleaned up. No detectives in sight but she was deep in conversation with Bailey. Should she leave them to finish their discussion? Pffft, no.
"Hey, are you okay? What happened?"
Before Callie could respond; "the detectives have finished their initial enquiries and a nurse just completed her checks, we've been given the go-ahead to clean her u-"
"I'LL DO IT"
Chill Robbins, jeez.
"I mean, I'm off now. Technically, so I can stay and help, I mean- if Callie wants, Callie may not want-, I mean I can- I can, I'm fine- I know how to- to clean- how to clean injuries, Sofia scraped her knee once, I can clean- stay- and help…"
SENTENCES ROBBINS. FORM SENTENCES.
Both Callie & Bailey looked slightly concerned, was Arizona having some sort of stroke?
She exhaled and looked at her wife "it's just I'm free, so I can help you clean yourself up and take you home, or wherever you need, unless you're being admitted? Are you being adm-"
"Dr Robbins", sigh, Bailey was going to have to full Bailey, "I've ordered some tests, including a CT scan, to rule out internal damage. I've admitted her but hopefully only overnight", she paused, looked at Callie, "now I'm going to leave you in the capable hands of Dr Stutter Mouth over there and get a rush on your results. I've also got to find out what the hell happened in the pit, some crazy ass woman was screaming the place down and I need to see the damage, damn fool lost their mind. Call if you need anything". She offered a reassuring hand to Callie again and left, shutting the door behind her.
Arizona meanwhile pursed her lips and looked up at the ceiling. She hoped Bailey wasn't a fan of that particular table in the longue. Or the window.
She then looked at Callie, her Calliope, and was glad she seemed in a much better place than earlier. Again, she had been cleaned up slightly but still needed some dried-on blood washed from her face. There was a moment's hesitation between them, an awkward silence, which frustrated them both. An internal monologue caught hold of Arizona's thoughts.
Okay Robbins, you've had time to digest, alleviate the stress, cry and come back down to relative normal. Your focus now is 100% your wife, your wife and only your wife. Your daughter is safe, you're safe, your wife is safe, if Carlos has anything to do with it, the perpetrator wouldn't be sa-…
"Hey, so are you just gonna stand there or help me get cleaned up? I'd kinda like this dried blood off my face."
Snapped from thoughts, "Oh yeah of course sorry, million miles away, let me grab some supplies and I'll be back, sit tight."
"Not going anywhere in this attractive hospital gown, don't worry."
Dimpled smile, "it's not the hospital gown that makes you attractive."
Oh for GOD'S SAKE ROBBINS.
She scurried out the door.
Do you hate yourself? Do you hate the world? Calliope has just been beaten up, has no memory of what happened, you'll both have to explain this to your daughter and you're openly FLIRTING?! Do you hear yourself? Focus, you need to focus. You need to be that good man in a storm. Grab the supplies, clean her up, ask what happened, ask that she gives our relationship another shot, ask how you can help, ask what the detective said, ask everything.
She grabbed some gauze, alcohol wipes, an unhealthy amount of saline solution amongst other things and then stood there.
Give it another shot? Why do I-
Her phone pinged, a message. If it was urgent about Sofia, it would be a call and not a message, issues around kids were always calls, village rule. Carlos? No, he'd also call, the man didn't text. If it wasn't about Sofia or Callie, she didn't care. Her girls were first, everything else secondary. She wouldn't put it past Herman to get an intern to text her though, just to wind her up.
She was brought out of her trance, again, this time by a shorter haired brunette.
"Hey, Meredith told me about Callie, is she okay?"
Juggling an amount of supplies she's sure she didn't need, she replied "okay I think, Bailey ran all initial tests, she's spoken to detectives and a nurse completed an exam, so I'm hoping that rules out most things, but she still needs a CT sca-"
"And that's why they called in the big dog", Amelia smiled, confident in her superpowers.
"Absolutely, she'll also need x-rays, it's just the person most qualified to read them probably can't lift her arm high enough to hold to a light." Arizona changed tact, "how is Sofia?"
"She's fine, April relieved me. She followed behind you and Meredith and knew someone would order a CT scan, so she came to ours and took over childcare so I could come ASAP."
Oh yes, April was in Kepner mode.
"Amazing", a small sigh of relief, "well I'm going to clean Callie up as much as she allows and hopefully by the time I've finished, the scanner will be ready."
"I hear Bailey threatened the entire staff of Grey Sloan saying this took priority. Priority over other patients, clocking off, sleeping, dates…"
Oh. CRAP.
"Okay well great, I'll be staying with Calliope whilst she has all these tests so I'll no doubt see you again later. Thank you so much for looking after Sofia at such short notice", a slight smile with the smallest hint of water her eyes glistened, "it means so much to us."
Amelia nodded and let the blonde go tend to the VIP patient, she knew Callie Torres was popular, she liked her (she'd had initially questioned in what capacity, I mean, she wasn't blind, Callie was hot) but had never heard anyone refer to her as Calliope before. It was… intimate.
Arizona reached exam room 2, managed to fumble the door open with her elbows and placed the plethora of supplies on the table next to her Callio… sigh, Callie.
"Hey sorry about that, got caught by Amelia, April took over childcare duties so she could come here and do your CT scan once the machines ready."
"No worries", a thankful smile offered, Arizona was taking care of her, albeit in an awkward, clumsy manner. It was adorable, her ex-wife was the most lovable dork. She was however expecting the questions Meredith, Bailey and the detectives had all asked, she knew she wouldn't be able to provide much information. She was slightly nervous her lack of memory would be perceived as her purposely withholding information from Arizona, which it wasn't. These communication issues at the forefront again.
"Right, so, first let me grab the gau…"
Ping.
Erugh, go AWAY.
"…ze and we can start to clear up that pretty face of yo-"
"Aren't you going to check that?"
Indifferent shrug, "No, it's nothing, it's fine."
"How do you know?"
"Because, it if it was important, they'd call, right?"
"Can you just check it please? Before you start with operation 'clean up the basket case'?"
"You are not a basket case Calliope, you were attacked, clearly. We need to get you tidied up, fully checked out, inside n' all, and get some answers. I'm guessing because the detectives weren't here for that long, you didn't have much to tell them?"
Head down again, damn. "No, I can't remember anything."
"Okay, so we need to start-"
"Phone Arizona, please check your phone."
"All right all right, divorced for two years yet you still order me about", she rolled her eyes.
Callie let out a small, just audible laugh, what happened to them? Oh, right, a LOT.
Arizona reluctantly checked her phone, her breath hitched.
Michelle: Hey, are you okay? Where are you? I'm in the lobby waiting for you. You may be in surgery but I'll still try and pop back there to say good night ; ) xx
Craptastic.
