After Neji's conversation with his father, a routine started taking form. In the mornings, Neji would spar with Hizashi and train the Gentle Fist, his father often giving him tips and correcting Neji when his form was subpar. Then in the evening, he would train his chakra control, as well as leaving his Byakugan activated for long periods. He was doing this with the hope that his body could acclimatize and adapt to the strain the white eye had on his chakra system and stop the already small drain it put on his body.
It appeared like his theory had been correct, as following two months of training, Neji was capable of activating the Byakugan without hand seals as well as being able to use it for an entire day without losing any chakra whatsoever.
Other activities Neji had been doing had been learning how to read and write with kanji, something that had proven way more difficult than he had expected.
It was strange, to his brain, everyone here seemed to speak English, yet at the same time, he'd heard other people use Japanese honorifics and even his half-sister/cousin call him Neji Niisan.
Sparring with Hinata was also something he had been doing. Two times every week he would spar with the apparent heiress of the Hyuga clan. In their spars, Neji would often have to control himself and his emotions so as to not hurt Hinata too much, making Hiashi activate the seal and fry his brain.
And so life went on, days became weeks and weeks turned into months and before Neji knew it, a year had gone by.
"Happy birthday!" two voices said loudly in the Hizashi residence.
Neji looked at the strawberry-cream cake before him with a smile, six lit candles decorated the delicious looking cake.
"Thank you, Father, Mother." Neji bowed slightly before blowing the candles away.
"Alright, think it's time for some gifts." Himeko said as she pulled a bag under the table. Neji looked inside excitedly and pulled out four objects, three of which he assumed were what he had written down three weeks ago that he wanted for his birthday.
The first item was an ordinary looking envelope with 'happy birthday' written on it, the second was a rectangular shaped box covered in gift wrap, the third looked to be a simple rectangular piece of paper and the last was once again another object wrapped in colorful pink paper.
Neji put the envelope and piece of paper aside before unwrapping the book-shaped gift. He smiled as he looked at the black journal, not too big but just small enough to fit comfortably in a standard shinobi weapon pouch. "That one is from your uncle." Hizashi said, "All you have to do is pour some chakra into it to mark it as yours, then every time you wish to open it do the same thing." "I shall thank Higachi the next time I see him." This was perfect, now he could keep notes and write plans concerning certain sensitive information without fear.
That is unless a seal master got a hold of it, which he assumed someone like that could break it easily, as this was no high level seal.
Guess he would just have to write in German as an extra level of precaution.
Neji moved on to his next wrapped gift and tore the paper without a care in the world, like a child on Christmas day.
Ever since he had arrived in this new world, Neji hadn't missed much of anything or anyone from his old world.
By the time he had died, he'd finished high school some time ago, and subsequently lost contact with almost all the friends he had made there. His old parents had been swiftly replaced by his new ones in his mind thanks to his memories and personality being fused with five-year-old Neji, and every and any all the entertainment he could have missed had been overshadowed by the ability to use chakra and having such a powerful body, even as just a six-year-old.
Still, there was a single thing he missed, quite a lot in fact.
Music.
The way he'd been able to listen to music this past year had been via the radio his mother owned, but that meant he couldn't select what music to listen to.
The device he was holding in his hands should help with that. The compact tape player had a rectangular shape with 4 buttons and a headphone jack to plug the simple black earphones it came with.
"I hope you like it, Neji dear." His mother said, Neji bowed slightly and stayed like that as he replied, "I do, thank you very much, Mother, Father."
"Alright, now this is the part I'm curious about," said Hizashi, eying the rectangular piece of paper. Neji grabbed the litmus paper with his index and middle finger and injected some of his chakra into it.
The family of three stared at the litmus paper curiously before it crumbled into a bunch of small pieces and fell on the table.
"Earth Release huh?" his father said quietly.
Neji pouted slightly, Earth Release was kinda lame wasn't it? Except if you also had Water and could use Wood Release of course. "What nature do you have, Father?" "Water, but I have never trained it at all. In modern history no Hyuga has trained any nature transformation, since a master of the Gentle Fist is much more powerful than almost any normal Ninjutsu user could ever be. Even for long-range attacks, the Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm has that area covered."
Neji looked up, excited at the mention of one of the techniques of the Gentle Fist. "And before you say anything, no. You're still too young. I'm sure you're strong enough to defeat any Hyuga under the age of twelve but they don't learn any Gentle Fist techniques either. So until you grow a little and I can see your chakra is developed enough we won't be training any Jutsu."
The pout on Neji's face grew, "alright… So what's in the envelope?" "That young man," his mother replied, "is the start of your monthly allowance." Neji perked up at this, he'd never had an allowance in his previous life.
"It's quite a small amount, we're giving this to you so that you can learn the value of money and how important it is to use it well."
Neji picked up the envelope and moved it up and down slowly, "you said small? This feels quite heavy." his mother looked up as she raised a finger, "oh yeah, inside there is some extra money, it is another person's gift." Neji raised an eyebrow, "Who?"
"Hiashi." His father answered in a calm tone with his eyes closed. Neji's eyebrows shot up in surprise, "How nice of him…"
A somewhat uncomfortable silence fell between the family before Hizashi spoke, "So, why did you want to know your Chakra Nature?" Neji just shrugged, "I was curious to know," he replied honestly.
"Well, the last gift is one I can't physically give you, so how about we eat a slice and then I start teaching you the Transformation Jutsu?"
A bright smile spread across Neji's face, "I would like that very much Father."
"Neji Niisan," a soft voice behind Neji said. He was resting in the lotus position in the backyard of the dojo the main main branch of the Hyuga clan often used. He was resting after a spar with his father that Hiashi and the clan elders had requested to see.
"Yes Lady Hinata?" Neji asked as he turned his face around to look at his cousin. She was wearing the same black training jumpsuit he was.
A small laugh escaped from Hinata's lips as she got a good look at Neji's face.
He was confused for only a second before he realized the source of Hinata's amusement. He quickly cut off his chakra and the five leaves that had been stuck to his face fell to the ground, a small blush of embarrassment clear on his face.
"What are you doing?" Hinata asked with an amused smile. "It's a chakra control exercise."
"Oh I know, Father taught it to me a few weeks ago, I just wanted to know why you're doing it now and with five instead of one?"
Neji grabbed one of the leaves and put it in his chin, holding it there with chakra without problem. "Ninjas use chakra for almost everything they do, so in my opinion there is almost nothing as important as having the best chakra control possible. Not to mention that if you do the exercises for a very long time it also helps with expanding your reserves. Additionally, this specific exercise becomes harder and more taxing the more leafs you use."
Hinata stayed silent for a few seconds before speaking again, "I wish I could switch with you Neji Niisan, you are so strong and smart…" Neji felt a sharp pain in his chest as his rage grew, he was about to snap at Hinata before he took a deep breath to calm himself.
She was only a five-year-old child, she didn't know any better. "Please do not say such foolish things Lady Hinata, you are to be the Head of the Clan after Lord Hiashi, it is beneath you to say such things," Neji spoke, a small amount of venom clear in his voice, even if hadn't intended to.
A comfortable silence fell between the two as Hinata sat down beside his half-brother.
"I heard your mother passed away in childbirth, I am very sorry." Hinata shook his head, "Do not be Neji Niisan, you are not to blame." she said with a sad expression on her face.
"So, how is Lady Hanabi then?" a sad smile now spread across Hinata's face, "She is healthy, and very cute too."
"Oh I almost forgot! Here you go, Neji Niisan, your birthday gift. Sorry I'm a week late." Hinata said, pulling a kunai from behind her.
The male Huyga grabbed the kunai and inspected it, it looked incredibly sharp and was quite shiny, most likely new.
"Thank you Lady Hinata, I appreciate it," Neji said, musing on how he now lived in a world where it was considered normal for a five-year-old to give a six-year-old a knife for their birthday.
Neji walked outside the Hyuga clan compound, and after walking far away enough he entered a dark alley. It had been two months now since his sixth birthday and he was now ready for step one for one of his plans to begin.
Waving the necessary hand signs that his father had taught him, a cloud of smoke enveloped the young Hyuga as the illusion took hold. Now a boy that looked to be thirteen was left standing where Neji had stood a few seconds ago. sporting short brown hair, about 156 cm tall, and a very average face, it would be the perfect disguise for the first step of Project Sharingan.
Neji walked between the villagers of Konohagakure without anyone looking at him, his transformation Jutsu perfectly hiding who he was.
He saw the sign of the shop he had been looking for and entered.
A Medical Supplies shop for shinobis.
Hello! What can I help you with?" a burly man behind the counter almost screamed.
"Hi, I was looking for two cristal containers the size of my hand and for some sort of liquid to store organs for a long period of time, if such a thing exists that is."
What Neji assumed was the store owner looked at him up and down, curiosity clear in his eyes. "May I ask what for?" Neji almost grimaced, but managed to maintain a straight face.
Time to see if he could still lie as good as he had been capable of in his past life.
He was pretty certain he could do it, he didn't like to admit it, but in his old life, Neji had what could only be described as a pathological liar.
Neji was aware it was not a good thing, but it was the truth. He'd lie often and enjoyed seeing people believe his lies.
Now that he was in the Ninja world, he hoped he still possessed the skill, even if he hadn't lied since he'd woken up as Neji 14 months ago.
"My Mother recently came into some money and wants to use it to pay for my father to have an eye transplant as he's currently blind after an accident at work last year." Neji sighed and raised his arms in a shrug, "The thing is my old man wants to keep his old eyes for whatever reason, so that's why I'm here."
To convince someone of a lie could be hard, but something he had learned after many years of lying was that if you sprinkle a bit of truth inside the lie, it would come out more easily and convincingly.
"Makes sense, If I got an eye transplant I would also like to look at my old eyes after it's finished." the shop clerk said with a slightly disturbing smile. "Wait here." the man said as he turned around and walked to the back of his shop, a curtain and wall were covering it so Neji was left with nothing to do but wait.
The thought of activating his Byakugan crossed his mind for a second before he dismissed it, even if the chance that this man had been ninja and a sensor type and would feel the miniscule chakra spike that activating his Byakugan would make, he wasn't going to risk it.
After what felt like an eternity, the man walked between the curtains with the two transparent containers with black plastic caps and what seemed to be an IV bag filled with a green liquid.
"Here's what you're looking for," the man said as he carefully put everything on the counter.
"This," he said as he pointed to the IV bag filled with liquid, "is called Optisol-GS35. Originally it was called Optisol-GS and was developed during the Warring States Period. Its function is/was to keep organs fresh and 'alive' as long as possible to transport them and store them for emergencies. Back when it was developed it could only keep the organ healthy for up to 12 hours to a day at most.
It wouldn't be until the Second Great Ninja War that Lady Tsunade Senju would create the version we have and use today. Her expertise in medical ninjutsu was such that she managed to take the liquid from a simple 24-hour period to what we can only assume to be forever. Truly worthy of the title of best medical ninja in history, don't you think?" Neji's eyes widened at that, worthy indeed.
The man smiled at his customer's reaction, "Of course, Lady Tsunade created it when she was 20 years old, so it has only been in use for 23 years, but there are still samples from back then that remain just as fresh as the moment they were taken from the body." The store owner smiled, "that little history lesson is for free."
Neji nodded, "Thank you, I never knew Lady Tsunade had developed anything like that." the man behind the counter chuckled, "You don't wanna know."
"Anyway, how much is it?" Neji asked, as enlightening as this conversation was, every minute he spent under the Transformation Jutsu was another minute more he could be caught.
"Ooohh! Take it easy." the man exclaimed, "a special procedure is necessary if you want the Optisol in these two vials. If you just poor it, germs and other nasty stuff can infect the Optiso and render it useless." Neji sighed, this was taking way longer than he had anticipated.
"Alright then, so how long will that take?" "Come back in an hour and I'll have them ready for you, I'll also need to be paid in advance, as once the bag is open it can't be closed or reused." "Ok, so how much is it?" "500 ryō please."
"Damn! That will leave me with almost nothing!" The store clerk exhaled from his nose as he saw his customer' expression. "I know, it ain't cheap. You sure you wanna buy this just for your dad to put his old eyes in? Seems like a waste of money."
Neji smiled, "oh I'm sure, but he's definitely not getting any birthday gifts from me this year or the next," Neji said as he placed a wad of money on the counter. "Guess I'll have to buy the other stuff when I save a little more."
Neji didn't immediately return home, instead wandering the village aimlessly, taking in the view of the different buildings. He noticed the sun would soon set, so he activated his Byakugan and searched for the nearest training ground with a pond.
He quickly found one not too far away and ran towards it at a jogging pace. Once inside the empty area, he walked near the pond before taking his black t-shirt and blue sandals off.
Another reason why he liked the Village Hidden in the Leaves was the temperature, it seemingly was always at a perfect temperature, except in Winter. He concentrated his chakra on his feet and started walking towards the center of the small lake, stopping once he reached it, then slowly sat down and placed his back on the water, seemingly levitating.
A perfect position to look at the sunset and to ponder on what should be his next move.
It wouldn't be long before the Hyuga Incident and the Uchiha massacre, one of which he hoped he could affect so it happened differently and another he planned to take advantage of.
He tried to think of other events in the near future that he could take advantage of but couldn't come up with anything.
A sound on his left made him turn his head, he put his hand above the leaf that had fallen from a nearby tree and made it stick to his palm with chakra as he raised his hand to stare at it. His thoughts now moved to training and how strong he was. He theorized his chakra control must have been equal to that of Sakura at the start of the manga, or was that giving himself too much credit? He had already mastered the three chakra control exercises he knew so maybe it was time to up the ante somehow.
When it came to his reserves he could certainly feel how they had grown quite a lot in the last year, but how much of that was thanks to simply growing up and not training was impossible to know. He hoped his taijutsu was on the same level as Neji had been originally at this current moment but that was ultimately impossible to know.
Besides those two things there was not a lot he could train on that would give any noticeable results at the moment.
Now he was really racking his brain, what was something he could realistically start training now? Something powerful that took years to accomplish? Nothing came to him.
It didn't take long before for the sun to set over the horizon, it was quite the view.
Neji sighed and slowly got up, no point in staying here any longer.
"It is great to see someone as young as yourself with their youthful flames burning so brightly."
"AAHHH!" Neji screamed, almost losing concentration and falling in the water from being startled.
Gaining stability, Neji quickly jumped away from where he'd been standing a few seconds ago, turning around to see who had spoken the second he landed on the water again.
The sight both surprised him and didn't. There was no other man or woman, at least currently, that would speak about the fires of youth.
He looked slightly younger than Might Guy would look when he took a team, but the bowl cut paired with a green jumpsuit, a Konoha flak jacket and huge eyebrows made him as recognizable as Kakashi or any Hokage.
Might Guy was standing with a surprised expression on his face. "AHAHA! Sorry, sorry young one, I did not mean to startle you." Guy said, giving him a thumbs up.
"I must say however, not only to have already mastered the Leaf Concentration Exercise and the Water Surface Walking Exercise but to combine them as well! Very impressive indeed, especially at your age! Tell me young one, how old are you?"
Neji stood in silence for a bit more than he should have, utterly shocked due to the fact that the famed 'Konoha's Sublime Green Beast' was standing before him and was even praising him.
"Uhhh six Ninja-San," he said with a small bow. "Only six and you have already mastered such chakra control exercises... I must praise your dedication and youthfulness! Tell me, do you wish to become a Medic Ninja one day?" Before Neji could neither deny or confirm, Guy spoke again. "Your eyes. I see now. You must be from the Hyuga clan, I have heard how their special Taijutsu requires great chakra control to be performed optimally."
Guy knew his stuff, "That's right Shinobi-san, in truth however, the Gentle Fist does not necessarily require as much chakra control as I have now, I simply wish to train my control to be perfect."
The green beast put a hand under his chin and quickly nodded multiple times. "Perfection huh? I can respect that greatly, to be able to meet someone already so dedicated to his ninja training at such a young age is a great honor! I can assure you that your flames of youth will take you far indeed! Oh goodness! Where are my manners? My name is Might Guy, Konoha's Sublime Green Beast!" the man finished striking a pose.
Neji smiled and let out a small laugh, Guy's overflowing energy was contagious, "It is a pleasure Guy-san, my name is Neji Hyuga. What would you be doing this late here?"
"Well Neji, the pleasure is mine. What I'm doing here is quite simple, I'm here to train." "This late sir?"
"Yes indeed! I recently suffered an injury in my last mission and have been out of commission for an entire week. I have only been able to leave the hospital today, so I came here to reignite my flames of youth!" Guy finished explaining.
Neji nodded, made sense, "Could I watch for a while?" the smile on Guy's face grew even more "Of course young Neji, having spectators is one of the best incentives to train even harder!"
To say that Neji was shocked would be an understatement, he was amazed. Guy's speed and striking power seemed inhuman, even with the Byakugan activated and focusing only on Guy, he could not keep up.
And assumed Guy was doing all of this with weights on his ankles. God only knew how heavy!
Just who or what had injured him the previous week?
After around an hour, Might Guy stopped and approached him again. "Well young Neji, what did you think of my warm-up?"
"WHAT!? THAT WAS ONLY A WARM-UP!?"
Neji gave a deep bow, "Thank you for letting me bear witness to it, Guy-san. I strongly doubt anyone in the Hyuga Clan would be able to defeat you."
"AHAHAH! I'm afraid you might be overselling it." Guy said, scratching the back of his head "I'm afraid I must insist on the contrary, I think you're selling yourself short, Guy-san."
"Well, I appreciate the words of support! I shall hold them in my heart for a long time. I am afraid that for today it is enough, however. I just recently healed, and while training is important one must know his limits as well!" Might Guy finished, slamming his chest with his fist.
"It was an honor to see you train Sir, I hope we meet again." Neji finished with a small bow.
"Now I really must get going, or I shall be seen blushing by the simple praise of a small child, goodbye!" and with that Guy disappeared before Neji's very eyes in a blink.
Even with the Byakugan still on, as Neji had never deactivated it since Guy had started training, he could not see where the Green ninja had gone to or even in what direction.
Neji couldn't think of anything else but Guy's strength and speed as he made his way home, seeing in real life had been a totally different story…
His punches had seemed to be almost as powerful as the ones from Tsunade Senju herself, only Guy didn't use the strength the female member of the Sannin did, he was all natural with some basic chakra enhancement.
That made it the second time he thought of the Legendary Sannin today, the supposedly Fifth Hokage if everything happened like it was supposed to.
Wait. That was it! Tsunade Senju was the key. Or at least one of her most famous techniques was.
The Strength of a Hundred Seal was a Jutsu that fitted perfectly into what he had been trying to think before Guy had shown up. A Jutsu that required almost no chakra and he could start practicing right now!
If his memory served him right, the Byakugou Seal was achieved by storing a vast amount of chakra over an extended period of time in a specific point of the body, then after several years, the seal would manifest in the form of a purple rhombus marking.
He remembered how both Tsunade and Sakura had achieved this by focusing their chakra on their forehead, but that simply wouldn't work for him.
Staying completely still, the young Hyuga started directing a small portion of his chakra to the center of the palm of his right hand. After a few seconds, he started feeling a tingly sensation where the chakra was being directed, which Neji could only assume was the Jutsu taking hold.
A wide smile spread across his face as he strutted home, today had been a great day.
