Chapter 8

(Jules hasn't communicated with Michael since his big announcement. She wanted to, more than anything. However, she wanted to honor Michael's request to be left alone while he thought about things. It was honestly killing her. She was momentarily grateful that George provided comfort and that George kept her up to speed on things. She couldn't help but wonder if Kimmy was worming her way into Michael's decision making. George looked at her with a serious expression in her hotel room)

George: "Do you honestly believe that, Jules?"

(Jules raises her hands up in the air in exasperation)

Jules: "I don't know what to believe anymore, George! I know if it was me, I'd want space, too. But I'm going out of my mind fearing the worst." (sighs) "I've always loved Michael. I've never NOT loved him. I've always considered him my other half even though he technically isn't. He's never judged me, even when I probably deserved it."

George: (shakes his head) "No one's perfect, Jules." (chuckles dryly) "Even Kimmy, who pretends to be."

Jules: (laughs) "That girl is delusional. She seemed nice at first. Not anymore."

George: (nods) "She's definitely a tool. It's Michael's choice in the end. For what it's worth, I hope he chooses you. It seems like all Kimmy wants to do is win. Does she truly love Michael? I used to think so." (shakes his head) "Not anymore. While you made it clear it's his choice, Kimmy tries to say Michael will choose her. Even though here's nothing wrong with feeling confident in someone's love, she looks like she's too confident. That, to me, is a recipe for disaster."

(Jules sits down on her bed with her shoulders shrunken)

Jules: "Do you feel I made the mistake in telling Michael how I feel?"

(George stares at Jules for a bit before speaking)

George: "You probably picked the wrong time to confess. You put Michael in a bad spot. However, do I feel you made the mistake in confessing your love? No. Now he knows everything."

Jules: "Did it look like he was getting closer to his decision?"

George: (raises his eyebrows) "Do you want me to make assumptions?"

Jules: (shakes her head) "No. Just your honest opinion."

George: (nods & sighs) "I feel he was. It looked like he was clued in to Kimmy's overconfidence. We discussed the pro's and con's to you and Kimmy and her family. Let's just say the timing of your confession opened his eyes because he saw Kimmy's other side."

Jules: (weirdly) "That doesn't sound very positive."

George: (chuckles) "No, it doesn't. I told him to block everyone out and ask himself who's always been there for him and who'd put him first. I left him be to think about things." (tilts his head) "I admit I'm kinda surprised you haven't went to Michael to plead your case more or ask him how he feels."

Jules: (snorts) "Oh, trust me. I thought about it. But I don't want to be like Kimmy and pretty much stalk Michael like she might be doing." (shrugs) "As much as I'm dreading his decision, I'm prepared to hear what he decides."

George: "For what it's worth, my dear, I'm proud of you. You're taking the high road."

(They are caught off-guard by a knock at the door. They weren't expecting anyone, so they wondered who it could be. Jules gets up and walks to the door and answers it, showing the bellboy)

Bellboy: (smiles) "Julianne, I assume?"

Jules: (confused) "Y-Yes. People usually call me Jules, but Julianne is fine."

(The bellboy nods before giving her an envelope and then walks away. She shuts the door and goes to George, staring at the envelope)

George: (puzzled) "What's that?"

(Jules looks on both sides of the white envelope before seeing her name on the front again)

Jules: "I don't know."

George: "Who's it from?"

(Jules examines the way her name was written and immediately knew)

Jules: "Michael. I know his handwriting anywhere."

George: "Are you going to open it?"

Jules: (sadly) "What if it's to say he chose her?"

George: "You won't know what it says until you read it."

Jules: (sighs) "I know."

(She turns the envelope over to break the seal before opening it. There's a little white card inside. She briefly closes her eyes while sighing deeply and reads it)

Jules: "'Jules, I'm sorry for the wait while I was trying to come to a decision between you and Kimmy. After much soul-searching, I made a choice. Please come to the park at 8pm so I can tell you who I chose. Kimmy will be there, too. Michael'."

George: "It sounds like he came to a decision."

Jules: "It would appear that way."

(She rests the card in the envelope and then puts it on the table. She didn't know what to think. All she knew is she needed some air)

Jules: "I need to get out of here. I'm going for a walk."

George: "Want some company?"

Jules: (smiles slightly) "No, thanks. I think I'm going to go to the pond."

(Jules grabs her purse and leaves the room, leaving George to think aloud)

George: "I hope for your sake, Jules, Michael chose you."

(Once reaching her destination, Jules sits on the bench in front of the pond. She stares at the birds swimming and chirping at the other. A small smile forms as she was glad someone was happy in that moment. She didn't hear her name being called until the person touched her arm, causing her to jump a little. She was surprised at who it was)

Jules: "Walter, hi."

Walter: (chuckles) "Hello. I take it I shocked you?"

Jules: (chuckles) "That's one way of putting it."

Walter: "Is this seat taken?" (referring to the spot next to her)

(Jules shakes her head while moving her purse so he can sit down. After getting comfortable, he speaks)

Walter: "I'm going to guess you received an envelope like Kimmy did?"

Jules: (nods) "Yes. He made his decision and wants to meets us both in the park."

Walter: (nods) "Her card said the same. For what it's worth, Jules, I don't hate you. I'm not mad at you for speaking from your heart."

Jules: "Your daughter is."

Walter: "She thought she was marrying the man of her dreams. As it turns out, that man may not be Michael. She loves Michael and he loves her, though."

Jules: "I know. I hope you know that I love him, too."

Walter: (laughs) "I should hope so, otherwise your declaration of love would've been for nothing."

Jules: (smiles a bit) "I've always loved him. I just feel bad it took me this long to admit it."

Walter: "I don't know you well except for what Michael and Kimmy say. From what I've seen, you're a nice young lady." (smirks) "With your announcement being at the wrong time."

(Jules laughs at his words as he was right)

Walter: "I will always be on Kimmy's side being she's my daughter. I will say this, though. I know that you love Michael. It's been obvious since you've arrived and more so when you announced your love for him. I also know my daughter does, too. Does she go about it the wrong way sometimes? Yes. I know she'd make Michael happy, but I feel you would, too. Whoever Michael chooses, I hope it will be respected."

Jules: (nods) "It will. Selfishly, I want him to choose me."

Walter: "I understand. You and my daughter will see at 8pm who Michael wants to be with."

Jules: (sincerely) "I appreciate you not giving me grief on the whole situation like the others have."

Walter: (nods) "You're a human being with feelings like the rest of us, Jules. While I don't control what the rest of the family does or thinks, I can control how I feel."

Jules: (smiles a bit) "Thanks."

(At the Wallace family property, Kimmy paces back and forth in the living room. A helpless Isabelle, Mandy, and Samantha look on)

Mandy: "Kimmy, you're going to make a hole in the floor with the way you're walking."

Isabelle: "Please, honey, sit down."

Samantha: "You're not doing yourself much good stressing on the situation."

Kimmy: (laughs incredulously) "Do you have a better idea? In just a few hours, my future will be forever altered. Not sure if it's for the better or worse."

(Isabelle tilts her head and sighs at her daughter's words)

Isabelle: "Just believe it's for the better."

Kimmy: (shrugs sadly) "What else can I do, mom? The love of my life could pick her over me."

Isabelle: (shakes her head) "You don't know that."

(Mandy and Samantha raise their eyebrows and whisper to each other)

Mandy: "For her sake, I hope he does choose her."

Samantha: (snorts) "You and me both. It'll be a nightmare if Michael chooses the bitch."
