Commander-in-Chief Edo Phoenix watched over the battlefield. He saw as gigantic Ancient Gear Monsters shot beams of energy as well as fall. Resistance Duelists and Academia Duelists alike were all falling, both sides fighting for what they believed was right.
The Destiny HERO stood there…contemplating. Thinking. A lot has happened in the past couple of days. More so than a week ago. As always, the Lancers have thrown a spanner into their works, meddling with their affairs once again.
But now was the chance…to finally end it all. All of the bloodshed, Carding, and loss could finally come to an end.
Edo cringed, the image of children crying as their parents would be sealed away before their very eyes entered his mind. He had seen many such scenarios during his tenure in the Xyz Dimension, and as much as he told himself it would get easier with time, it did not.
Every single time he looked at those crying children, it would take him back…
Father…Edo thought to himself in deep thought. What would you think of this right now? How would you react to seeing your creations bring such carnage…Edo held out his Deck out, fanning the Cards between his hands.
The Destiny HEROS…his father did not create them so they could be used for destruction. They weren't intended for the use of hurting other people. They were…
"Wow…they're so cool!"
"Right? They're called the Destiny HEROS. They are heroes who take destiny into their own hands…"
They were created for my excitement of seeing a new hero…Edo thought to himself deeply. My father created them to make me happy…
Until his father's death that was…
Edo felt his heart drop. No matter how long it has been, the very thought of his father's murder always brought him to a sullen mood. His father was robbed and killed, and one of his creations was stolen from him.
Destiny HERO Bloo-D…
Edo removed said Card from his Deck. It was one of his father's final creations…said by the man himself to be one of the most powerful of the Destiny HEROS.
And the killer got away with it…while Edo's father was left dead on the ground in a puddle of his own blood and scattered creations…
When Edo was just a kid…
"Father? Father? Wake up…wake up! Father!"
He would spend years awaiting for the day that his father's killer would be brought to justice. However, the authorities never came up with anything.
And then he came…

3 Years Ago - Fusion Dimension
A 15-year-old Edo Phoenix growled with irritation. As of today, seven years ago when Edo was eight, his father was murdered In cold blood.
To this day, the killer had not been found.
The cops had all but given up on the search.
What help they've been…
So Edo decided to do some searching of his own. Unfortunately, just like the police, he came up short. He searched for years and years on end, and all potential leads eventually just reached dead ends after dead ends.
And this lead was no different…
He sighed to himself.
"I'm sorry, Father. It's been seven years now, and I still haven't gotten justice for your death." The young boy apologized, stating longingly at his Destiny HERO Deck, a memento of his late father.
He leaned back in his chair, glancing around his room in the orphanage.
Even before the death of Edo's father, Edo's mother had already past away when he was very young. Edo hardly remembered at all actually. Furthermore, Edo did not know of any other family outside of his parents…and even if he did, he had no contact with him. As a result, when his father was murdered, Edo was placed in the orphanage. And in the orphanage he stayed…for seven more years.
"Mark my words…" Edo mumbled. "I'll find the guy who did it, if it is the last thing I do. I'll do anything to find out who did it!"
"You will do whatever it takes?" A voice asked.
Edo jumped out of his seat with a yelp, whipping his body around to see a bald man in a purple suit standing at the doorway.
"Hello, Edo Phoenix." The man greeted curtly, no discernible emotion behind his eyes.
As far the man himself, Edo had never seen him before in his life.
Just who was this…?
"I apologize for my abrupt arrival." The man gave the slightest nod, "My name is Akaba Leo. I heard what happened to your father…"
Edo looked away, disinterest filling his stomach. Another person giving condolences, even seven years after his father's death. It never ended…
"And I have also heard that they have not caught his killer."
"Don't worry. He'll get what's coming to him sooner or later…" Edo's mind played out the line he had heard many times in the past, said by people just like this man.
"If you come with me, I promise to use all resources at my disposal to help you bring the killer to justice."
Wait, what? Edo did a mental double take, shocked at what he heard.
"You…want to help me find my father's killer?"
"Yes." The bald man responded. "I know a bit about losing something dear to you. Especially a family member. That feeling of helplessness…thinking that you could have done something…is suffocating. But, that person is gone now…and the only way to do right by them is to extract justice on the one who committed the crime. I am a firm believer in justice."
"Justice…" Edo whispered, glancing at his Destiny HERO Deck lying on the Deck.
Heroes…fought for justice…
"And I am aware of your prowess as a Duelist. I believe that it would benefit us both if you come under my tutelage at Academia."
"Academia?"
"Yes. A school designed to create pros." Akaba Leo responded. "I think you would benefit much from being there. And I could use a skilled Duelist like yourself to lead my ranks…"
Edo blinked, pondering in silence. He glanced back at his Deck. As he did, he saw a younger version of himself at the door of a dark room. The poor kid had a frozen, traumatized expression as he shrieked out for his father, who he found lying in a puddle of blood facedown, his Destiny HERO Cards having been spread out along the ground around him.
Edo then remembered the scene of a police station. Many. Many. Times. And each time he was there, he would be told the same thing.
The killer was still at large…
Well, no more…
He would forge his own destiny now…
Edo turned back to see Akaba Leo holding a hand out as a gesture for a handshake.
"So, what do you say?" The man questioned with a firm, alluring gaze.
That determined gaze was the last straw for Edo. This man truly intended to help him. He wasn't like the police officers he had interacted with. This man was different…
Without so much as a second thought, Edo grasped Akaba Leo's hand firmly, shaking the old man's hand.
"I gladly accept."
And thus, a partnership had been born…

And with that partnership, they had managed to track down the killer of Edo's father. Not only did they take him down, but Edo also managed to retrieve Destiny HERO Bloo-D.
To say that Edo was indebted to the Professor was an understatement. The man had helped bring Edo closure as well as avenged his father. To simply pack his bags and leave would be a stain to everything his father taught him.
So he stayed at Academia. excelled in his classes, rising through the ranks quickly. He heard and saw many things during his time at Academia, and thanks to the Professor's promising results, Edo had found himself adhering to Akaba Leo's teachings. After all, such teachings were what helped him so much with his father's case.
But now, for the first time…he found himself doubting the Professor's teachings. Yes, they were efficient, but…was there truly another way of doing things? The way that Sakaki Yusho and his father followed.
No! Edo shook his head resiliency, expelling the thoughts. He can't think like that. The Professor's teachings were absolute.
And to prove that, he needed to take down opposing ideologies once and for all. While he had defeated Sakaki Yuya in their Duel, he still felt conflicted. The only way to settle this once and for all…was to beat Sakaki Yuya again. He must purge his head of these impure thoughts at once.
After all, he did owe the Professor…
Elsewhere in Heartland City
"Are you okay, miss?" Gongenzaka asked the lady he and Sawatari had just saved from a couple of Academia Duelists.
"Yes! Thank you so much!"
"Do not worry." The big man assured as a d-wheel harboring a member of Security stopped in its tracks by them. Gongenzaka led the woman, who got onto the d-wheel, straddling the back of its owner. Gongenzaka turned to the driver, "Get her and any others you find to safety."
"Understood." The former enemy nodded. He slammed on the accelerator, boosting away from the chaos of the battlefield.
To his side, Sawatari sighed.
"I wish we had our d-wheels…"
"Stop complaining, Sawatari." Gongenzaka chided stoically. "We will just have to make do with what we have now. Akaba Reiji gave us a task to do. We must fulfill it without failure."
After encountering Reiji's forces, Sawatari, Gongenzaka, O'Brien, and Ryoga all filled their comrades in on the situation. They mentioned how the Monastery seemed to be getting attacked as well as the importance of protecting that area due to the volume of civilians over there.
They also mentioned that most of the others were most likely defending the Monastery, and that the Security Duelists would be very helpful in fending off the enemies.
Reiji and the others as well a good chunk of their Security reinforcements began to make their way to the Monastery to assist the others. Meanwhile, Gongnezaka and The other three were ordered by Reiji to hold off soldiers out in the city as well as save any other civilians that may be on the run.
And then, within not even ten minutes of the reinforcements arriving, the tides of the battle seemed to have evened up. What was once going to be a slaughtered for the Lancers now was an even playing field. The Resisfance truly had a chance of victory. For the first time in a long time, the Resistance had hope…
The four remaining Duelists split up into two teams to carry out their task. To Gongenzaka's dismay and frustration, Ryoga and O'Brien quickly partnered with each other, practically running away from Sawatari and himself.
And Gongenzaka couldn't blame them after all. Sawatari could be very insufferable…almost all the time.
"Still, even without having d-wheels, it is good to have the others back." Sawatari said with relief. "With them, we can finally teach these bastards not to mess with us!"
"I…can't argue with you on that…" Gongenzaka trailed off.
It was very creepy how Sawatari had suddenly began to make sense recently. Gongenzaka has actually found himself agreeing with some of the things he would say in recent times.
"With Akaba Reiji and the others back, the tide of the battle will now turn in our favor."
"I don't know about that." A female voice chimed in playfully.
Sawatari and Gongenzaka turned around, seeing the Tyler Twins standing behind them with smug smiles on their faces.
"Look at that, sis, it's the saps we beat the snot of already!" Grace said with a laugh.
Though she remained more composed, Gloria's face still held a cocky smile.
"Indeed, we didn't get to Card them the last time. Maybe you guys should just save us all some time and turn yourselves in."
Gongenzaka growled, while Sawatari burst out in anger, "Like hell that's gonna happen! I've been wanting another crack at you two since we got beaten!"
"And this time, we are Dueling with our own Fields and Graveyards!" Gongenzaka exclaimed, remembering how he was rendered useless last match.
"I don't think so!" Gloria replied as yellow anchor beams shot out from both her and Grace's Duel Disks, latching onto Sawatari and Gongenzaka respectively. "You're playing on our rules! A Tag Duel!"
"Shit!" Both Lancers cursed as they tried to break free of the anchor, but to no avail. Now they had no choice but to follow the rules of the Tyler Twins.
"The fun begins now!" Grace cackled as the four Duel Disks activated.
"DUEL!" All four participants bellowed in unison, commencing the Duel.
A ball of Action Cards scattered around the Field as the Action Field took its hold on the area.
"I think I'll take the first turn!" Grace proclaimed, slamming a Card onto her Duel Disk preemptively. "Come forth, Amazoness Blowgun Soldier!"
Appearing to Grace and Gloria's Field was a muscular dark-skinned woman with blue hair and a blowpipe in her hand.
Blowgun Soldier: Level 3, 800 Atk, 1500 Def
"And now, I set three Cards." Grace said, the three aforementioned Cards appearing facedown in front of her. "Turn end."
That's it? Sawatari thought to himself with concern. No Fusion? Could she have simply gotten unlikely? Regardless, if there was a time to strike, now would be the time.
"My turn!" Sawatari exclaimed, drawing his sixth Card. He took a long gaze at his Hand, grimacing. He glanced at Gongenzaka, considering his options. He softly nodded to himself, making his move. He removed two Cards from his Hand, holding them out to the Tyler Twins. "I, using the Scale 3 Abyss Actor - Extra and the Scale 7 Abyss Actor - Curtain Raiser, set the Pendulum Scale!"
Sawatari's arm swung over his Duel Disk, dropping each Pendulum Card on the edges as the word played across his Duel Disk in a bright rainbow color. Three green creatures with a single open eye each and a purple-skinned Monster wearing a curtain appearing to the Field on Sawatari's sides inside a see-through column. They rose to the top, the numbers of their Scales appearing beneath them.
"I activate the Pendulum effect of Abyss Actor - Curtain Raiser!" Sawatari announced as said Monster lit up with a blue hue. "If I control no Monsters, then I can Special Summon this Monster from the Pendulum Zone! Appear, Abyss Actor - Curtain Raiser!"
The purple man wearing a curtain appeared to the Field in front of Sawatari.
Curtain Raiser: Level 4, 1100 Atk, 1000 Def
"And I'm not finished yet!" Sawatari said, removing his other Card from the Pendulum Zone, "If you control a Monster, then I can Special Summon Abyss Actor - Extra from the Pendulum Zone! Appear, Abyss Actor - Extra!"
Disappearing from the Pendulum Zone and reappearing in the Monster Zone was a group of three purple men wearing different color jackets.
Extra: Level 1, 100 Atk, 100 Def
"I release these two Monsters on my Field to Advance Summon Abyss Actor - Big Star!" A doll with pink skin, hair, and a black suit appeared in place of Sawatari's precious two Monsters, descending in front of its owner.
Big Star: Level 7, 2500 Atk, 1800 Def
"Sawatari's ace Monster…" Gongnezaka mumbled to himself.
"Battle!" Sawatari declared, thrusting his hand at the Tyler Twin's Monster. "Abyss Actor - Big Star, attack Blowgun Soldier! Big Star!"
Big Star brought its hands close together. A yellow star appeared between the doll's palms. Big Star cackled, thrusting it's hands out and sending the star at Blowgun Soldier.
"I activate the Trap Card, Amazoness Substitution!" Grace countered, her Trap revealing itself, "If an Amazoness Monster I possess is targeted for an attack, I Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Amazoness Monster from my Hand to the Field! Come on, Amazoness Swords Woman!"
In a flash of light, a muscular woman with red hair and a sharp sword appeared in front of Blowgun Soldier. She threw her sword in front of her, taking a stance to defend her sister.
Swords Woman: Level 4, 1500 Atk, 1600 Def
"Now, the target of the attack is switched to Amazoness Swords Woman!"
The large star smashed Into Amazoness Swords Woman. The warrior let out a scream of agony, her pain being drowned out by the sounds of war around the surrounding area. However, as she was destroyed, Sawatari and Gongnezaka cried out in pain. Their bodies were blown backwards. Though startled, they kept their ground, their feet scraping across the ground.
"Shit!" Sawatari cursed.
"Just what was that?!" Gongenzaka asked, startled. He looked down, gasping in shock at what he saw on his Duel Disk.
Sawatari and Gongenzaka: 4000-3000 LP
"We took damage?!" Sawatari voiced Gongenzaka's confusion for him. "But how?!"
"Hehe!" Grace chuckled with amusement. "You're so cute when you're confused!"
Gloria groaned at the sudden flirting from her sister. Shaking her head, she spoke up, "The effect of Amazoness Swords Woman states that you take any battle damage we would take during battles with this Card."
"Such a cheap effect…" Gongenzaka trailed off, a drop of sweat trickling off his face. "Be careful, Sawatari. They might have more Monsters just like that."
"Now, I…" Sawatari began, before halting. He glanced down at his Duel Disk and then at his Hand. His eyes darted to his teammate, Gongenzaka. He sighed, conceding his current course of action. "I end my turn."
"What?!" Gongenzaka cried out in disbelief and anger. "Sawatari! What the hell are you doing?! Are you trying to make us lose?! You could have used Big Star's effect to add an Abyss Script Magic Card from your Deck! And you still have three Cards left in your Hand!"
"Kgh!" Sawatari grunted, lashing out in anger. "Why don't you shut up! Don't talk on crap you don't know shit about!"
"Enough!" Gloria Tyler interjected, already annoyed by the arguing. She placed her hand on her Deck, "It's my turn, now. So, shut up and lose! Draw! And now, the effect of Amazoness Blowgun Soldier will activate during the Standby Phase! I select a Monster you control, and they lose 500 Attack Points until the end of the turn! Of course, I choose Big Star!"
Blowgun Soldier brought her weapon to her mouth. With a sharp breath of air, a dart shot out from the edge of her blowgun. The dirt hit Big Star in the shoulder, weakening the Monster.
Big Star: 2500-2000 Atk
"Next, I will activate the Magic Card, Amazoness Secret Technique! With this Card, I can Fusion Summon an Amazoness Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck using Monsters on my Field or in my Hand as Material!" Gloria announced as her two chosen Monsters appeared beside her. Amazoness Chain Master and Amazoness Pet Tiger. "Wild beast of the jungle with vicious fangs! Obtain the power of the master of chains, become a new savage beast and appear! Fusion Summon! Come before us! Level 7! Amazoness Pet Liger!"
The two Materials converged into a vortex. The form of a large scarred tiger appeared. The beast pounced onto the Field, bearing its eyes on its opponents.
Pet Liger: Level 7, 2500 Atk, 2400 Def
"Now, Reverse Card, open! Magic Card, Fusion Substitution!" Gloria threw her hand out, revealing the set Magic Card.
"Fusion Substitution?!" Gongenzaka widened his eyes.
"Using Monsters on my Field as Material, I can Fusion Summon! I fuse Amazoness Blowgun Soldier and Amazoness Pet Liger!" The two Monsters from the amazon leapt into the air. Their forms began to dissolve, blending together into one being. "Hidden soldier! Obtain the power of the savage beast and cast your judgment across this world! Fusion Summon! Appear, Level 10! Amazoness Augusta!"
A spark of light appeared in front of Gloria. Out of the light swung a massive steel sword. Its owner was a tanned woman with red paint adorning her body, wearing a colorful amazonian top and waistcloth. The powerful woman let out a fierce cry, swinging her sword in front of her, ready for battle.
Augusta: Level 10, 3200 Atk, 2800 Def
"Don't think it's over yet!" Grace grinned as her sister thrusted a hand out at her Monster.
"When Fusion Summoned, Amazoness Augusta's effect activates! I can Special Summon an Amazoness Monster from my Deck! Join the fight, Amazoness Queen!"
Upon her command, a blue-haired tan woman with a red cape and bikini armor descended, settling next to Amazoness Augusta. The new arrival yelled, swinging her sword onto her shoulder.
Queen: Level 6, 2400 Atk, 1800 Def
"I activate the Magic Card, Amazoness Fighting Spirit!" Gloria declared, revealing a Magic Card depicting a fierce Amazoness Fighter with a fire burning behind her. "Now, let's battle! Amazoness Augusta, attack Abyss Actor - Big Star! Kaiser Slash!"
Amazoness Augusta let out a shriek, crashing her metal blade into the ground, causing shockwaves to rupture the ground. Sawatari and Gongenzaka were thrown back by both it and the destruction of Big Star as their Life Points dwindled further.
Sawatari and Gongenzaka: 3000-1800 LP
"Damn it!" Gongenzaka cursed, staggering slightly as he regained his footing. His eyes widened as he saw Amazoness Queen prepping an attack, awaiting an order from her owner. "We're wide open! If we take this next attack…"
"Like hell is it gonna be that easy!" Sawatari spat, removing a Card from his Hand and slapping it onto his Duel Disk. "When a Pendulum Monster I control is destroyed, then I can Special Summon Abyss Actor - Mellow Madonna from my Hand! Come, Mellow Madonna!"
Replacing Big Star on the stage was a beautiful yet gloomy purple-skinned woman with pink and yellow hair wearing a black dress. She placed her hands in front of herself, a blue hue surrounding her body as she took a defensive stance on the Field.
Mellow Madonna: Level 7, 1800 Atk, 2500 Def
"Mellow Madonna has more Defense than the Attack of Amazoness Queen. Good luck getting over her!" Sawatari boasted with a pointed gaze.
Gongenzaka smiled, "Good work, Sawatari."
"Tch!" Gloria growled out of annoyance, placing a Card into her Duel Disk. "I set a Card and end my turn."
Good. We managed to make it to Gongenzaka's turn without me using a Magic or Trap…Sawatari thought to himself, beaming. With this, Gongnezaka would not be a sitting duck.
"Behold!" Gongenzaka shouted, his voice booming throughout the battlefield as the fires of war raged on around them. "Even in such dire straits, my steadfast spirit lives on! My turn, draw!"
Fusion Substitute has an extra effect in the Graveyard. Gongenzaka thought, glancing at Grace. On the next turn, she will probably use the effect next turn to draw a Card. In that case…
Gongenzaka revealed the Card in his Hand. "If I have no Magic or Trap Cards in my Graveyard, then I can Special Summon this Monster from my Hand! Come to me, Superheavy Samurai On-32!"
A purple mechanical samurai with a green scroll in its mouth appeared to the Field in a defensive position.
On-32: Level 1, 200 Atk, 700 Def
"Furthermore, by having no Magic or Trap Cards in my Grave, I can use On-32's additional effect! By releasing it, I can target a Magic or Trap Card in your Graveyard and set it to my side of the Field!" On-32 disappeared from the Field in a burst of light as quickly as it had appeared. Then, the image of a Card flew out of Gloria's Duel Disk, flying over to Gongenzaka.
The Card set itself, reflipping briefly to make its identity known. The Card Gongenzaka had chosen to steal was Fusion Substitute. As the Card concealed itself, Grace growled in annoyance.
"And I was going to use that Card too!"
"Then I, the man Gongenzaka, did my job!" Gongenzaka retorted in response fiercely. "And next, I will set the Scale with the Scale 8 Superheavy Prodigy Waka-U4!"
Gongenzaka swiped the Card onto his Duel Disk. And, since the Scales were incomplete, no visual cue had occurred.
"I activate the Pendulum effect of Waka-U4! Since I have no Magic or Trap Cards in my Graveyard, I can set a Superheavy Samurai Pendulum Monster to the Scale from my Deck. I set the Scale 1 Superheavy Warrior Monk Big Ben-K!"
A blue robed version of Big Ben-K appeared to the Field, rising into the air in a column of blue light.
"And now, Prodigy Waka-U4 Special Summons itself from the Pendulum Zone! Come to my side, the Tuner Monster, Waka-U4!" Gongenzaka yelled as a green robed Monster with a white and yellow-lined cloth on its back appeared, moving from the Pendulum Zone to one of the Monster Zones in front of Gongenzaka.
Waka-U4: Level 4, 1000 Atk, 1500 Def
"I activate the effect of Waka-U4! When I have no Magic or Trap Cards in my Graveyard, I can discard a Monster and Special Summon a Superheavy Samurai Monster in Defense Position from my Hand or Deck!" Gongenzaka explained, inserting Superheavy Samurai Glo-V into the Graveyard as he removed a Card from his Deck, slamming it onto his Duel Disk, "From my Deck, appear! Superheavy Samurai Big Ben-K!"
The orange and black armored ace Monster of Gongenzaka appeared to the Field. The mechanical samurai twirled its weapon around in its hands masterfully, holding a defensive position.
Big Ben-K: Level 8, 1000 Atk, 3500 Def
"Tch!" Gloria grunted while Grace frowned. "That annoying hunk of junk again!"
"You can't hide behind your defenses forever, you know." Her sister said in a sing-song voice.
Gongenzaka ignored their words, maintaining his steadfast demeanor, much like the namesake of his style. He removed a Card from his Hand, slamming it onto his Duel Disk.
"From my Hand, I Normal Summon Superheavy Samurai Dai-8!" A green mechanical samurai hauling a wagon of machine parts appeared to the Field alongside Big Ben-K.
Dai-8: Level 4, 1200 Atk, 1800 Def
"When this Card is Normal or Special Summoned, I can switch it to Defense Position!" Gongenzaka announced, switching the position of the Card sideways. However, he kept a hand on the Card, continuing. "And now, I activate Dai-8's additional effect! Once per turn, I can switch this Card's position from to Defense to Attack and add a Superheavy Samurai Soul Monster from my Deck to my Hand!"
Almost as quickly as it went into Defense, Dai-8 returned to an offensive position. As it did, the wagon it was carrying glowed with a white hue as Gongenzaka removed a Card from his Deck, revealing it to his opponents. The Card was Superheavy Samurai Soul Double Horn.
"Now, I tune the Level 4 Superheavy Samurai Dai-8 and the Level 4 Tuner Monster Superheavy Samurai On-32!" On-32 jumped into the air, its body turning into four green rings. On the other hand, Dai-8 also jumped into the air, its figure being swapped for four white stars that flew through the rings I a straight line. A beam of light flushed through the rings, enveloping the stars as the figure of a new warrior took shape. "Synchro Summon! Appear, Level 8! Superheavy Ninja Saruto-B!"
A large, round black-clothed machine with yellow and blue limbs appeared to the Field, taking a defensive stance.
Saruto-B: Level 8, 2000 Atk, 2800 Def
"A Synchro Summon?" Gloria's eyes widened in interest. "You didn't do that last time. Perhaps there is more to you than I first thought…"
"That said, your Monster is still no match for Augusta! And, while Amazoness Queen is on the Field, Amazoness Monsters we control cannot be destroyed by battle!" Grace added. "New trick or not, you two still have no chance!"
"Do not underestimate the power of my Steadfast Duel!" Gongenzaka retorted, revealing a Card in his Hand. "From my Hand, I activate the effect of the Superheavy Samurai Soul Double Horn I just added! I can target a Superheavy Samurai Monster on the Field and equip this Card from my Hand or Field! I equip Double Horn to Saruto-B!"
The horns off the mechanical samurai detached, latching onto Saruto-B, infusing it's own power within the Monster.
"I, the man Gongenzaka, am not finished yet! I activate the effect of another Superheavy Samurai Soul Monster in my Hand!" The Synchro user announced, revealing the Card and inserting it into his Duel Disk. "Much like Double Horn, the effect of Soul Shine Claw allows itself to be equipped to Saruto-B! And, when it is, the equipped Monster gains 500 Attack and Defense!"
Saruto-B held its hand out. Soul Shine Claw appeared briefly before disassembling into many different pieces. The five red metallic fingers implanted themselves onto Saruto-B's hand. The mechanical samurai growled, flexing its new fingers.
Saruto-B: 2000-2500 Atk, 2800-3300 Def
"I'm still not finished." Gongenzaka declared, holding his hand up to his Monster. "I activate Saruto-B's effect! Once per turn, when I have no Magic or Trap Cards in my Graveyard, I can target a Magic or Trap you control and destroy it!"
"What?!" Gloria and Grace gasped as Saruto-B swung with its weapon.
A wave of energy erupted from the blade, chopping into one of the Tyler Twins' set Cards, Amazoness Reincarnation Technoque, destroying it. The Tyler Twins' both let out a cry of shock as the particles from the destroyed Card rained down on their lower body.
Gloria and Grace: 4000-3500 LP
"I forgot to mention, when your Card is destroyed, Saruto-B inflicts 500 damage to you." Gongenzaka explained with a smile.
"Hell yeah! With that, we managed to give them their first damage…" Sawatari mumbled to himself.
"Battle!" Gongenzaka declared with an abrupt wave of his hand. "Saruto-B, attack Amazoness Queen!"
Saruto-B roared, it's weapon cleaving down upon Amazoness Queen, slicing through the woman's stomach.
Shockwaves from the attack smashed at Gloria and Grace as they stumbled in place, crying out from the sudden jolts to their bodies.
Gloria and Grace: 3500-2600 LP
"Your Amazoness Monsters may be invulnerable to battle," Gongenzaka began, noting that Amazonsss Queen remained on the Field, "But the fact is you will still take the damage from the battle! And it's about to become even more, for when equipped with Superheavy Samurai Soul Double Horn, Saruto-B can attack twice!"
"No way!" Grace exclaimed in shock.
"Attack once more, Saruto-B!"
The Monster did as it was commanded, unleashing another ferocious strike to the gut of Amazoness Queen.
Grace and Gloria screamed, both of them having been sent Flying from the force of the attack. While in midair, they both recovered, landing on their feet.
Gloria and Grace: 2600-1700 LP
"With this, I end my turn." Gongenzaka concluded.
"Tch! My turn!" Grace grunted, sliding the top Card of her Deck into her Hand. She glanced at it, grinning and revealing it to her opponents. "I activate the Magic Card, Pot of Greed! Using it, I draw two Cards! And now, I will reveal my Reverse Card! It's the Magic Card, Amazoness Charm! Targeting a Defense Position you control, this Card forces your Monster into Attack Position and gives an extra 200 Attack! I will force Saruto-B into Attack Position!"
The declared samurai struggled. The machine tried its best to resist the effect of Grace's Card, but ultimately succumbed, taking an offensive position and tightly grasping its weapon. Just then, a red aura appeared around the warrior, increasing its strength.
Saruto-B: 2500-2700 Atk
"Battle! Amazoness Queen, attack Saruto-B!" Grace announced, earning gasps of shock from Gongenzaka and Sawatari.
"Attacking with lower Attack?!" Sawatari blurted out in confusion.
"Not for long!" Gloria chimed in. "The effect of Amazoness Fighting Spirit gives an Amazoness Monster an extra 1000 Attack when attacking a Monster with higher Attack!"
"That's right! So, continue your attack, Amazoness Queen!" Grace yelled alongside her Monster, invigorating themselves in the process.
Queen: 2400-3400 Atk
Amazoness Queen's sword smashed Into Saruto-B. Gongenzaka let out a cry of the pain as the shockwaves from the attack crashed into his body. Despite the attack however, his Saruto-B remained on the Field. Furthermore, as Damage Calculation was now over, the Attack of Amazoness Queen returned to normal.
Sawatari and Gongenzaka: 1800-1100 LP
Queen: 3400-2400 Atk
"Heh…" Gongenzaka chuckled, his eyes catching the startled expression on the faces of his opponents. "Soul Shine Claw has another effect! The Monster equipped with it cannot be destroyed in battle!"
"I see. In that case…" Grace glanced at her sister, who returned the silent look. They both nodded at each other, their feelings being silently conveyed through their bond with one another.
And then…
Gloria Tyler broke off into a run for the first time in the Duel.
Meanwhile, Grace Tyler continued her assault.
Thrusting her hand forward, Grace commanded, "Amazoness Augusta, attack Abyss Actor - Mellow Madonna!"
With ease, Sawatari's Monster had been cut in half mercilessly. Both Lancers let out a preemptive sigh of relief. They managed to survive…
"Action Magic, Single Distraction!" The voice of Gloria Tyler yelled. She was holding out an Action Card which she had picked up from the ground while she was running. "When you control a single Monster, I can target it and destroy it! I destroy your Saruto-B!" As Gloria pushed her arm out, the aforementioned Action Card appeared as a life-size hologram alongside her. A bolt of lightning burst out of the Card, striking Saruto-B and decimating the Monster instantly.
"Shit!" Sawatari cursed.
This was not good.
"Now, I activate the Quick-Play Magic Card, Amazoness Assault!" Grace declared, a Card appearing in front that depicted Amazoness Queen with a fierce expression on her face, swinging her blade at an unknown enemy. "By releasing an Amazoness Monster, I can target another Amazoness Monster I control. Depending on the Level of the released Monster dictates how many times the targeted Monster can attack. I released a Monster whose Level was 5 or higher, so Amazoness Augusta can now attack three times this turn!"
"What?!" Sawatari's eyes widened in shock.
"Amazoness Augusta, attack the opponent directly!" Grace yelled with a grin, thrusting a hand out at her enemies. "It ends now! And this time, you aren't getting away from your prison!"
Damn it! Sawatari thought to himself. If we take this attack…
"I won't let this happen!" Gongenzaka exclaimed as Gloria suddenly broke off into a run in a random direction. He chose to ignore this for now, and continued with his move. Removing a Card from his Graveyard, he spoke, "I activate the effect of Superheavy Samurai Glo-V! When you declare a direct attack on me, I can banish this Card from the Graveyard! Then, I draw a Card and reveal it. If it is a Superheavy Samurai Monster, your Monster's Attack becomes 0 until the end of the turn!"
Yes! Sawatari gloated internally.
"Tch!" Grace hissed. "In a Deck with only Monsters…"
"He's guaranteed to get one…" Gloria muttered as she ran.
Gongenzaka drew his Card resolutely. And, to no one's surprise, the Card that he drew was a Superheavy Samurai Card, Superheavy Samurai Taima-2. Due to drawing a Superheavy Samurai Card, the Attack of Amazoness Augusta dropped to 0.
Augusta: 3200-0 Atk
"Alright!" Sawatari cheered aloud, raising a fist to the air. "Great move, Gongenzaka!"
"We're not finished yet…" Grace trailed off as Gloria jumped up a layer of platforms, landing on and picking up a Card and inserting it into her Duel Disk.
"Action Magic, Nanana!" Gloria interjected with her Card. "I give Amazoness Augusta 700 Attack!"
Augusta: 0-700 Atk
Amazoness Augusta swung her sword, releasing a wave of energy that struck Gongenzaka, sending him backwards. He cried out in pain as his body hit the ground a decent distance away.
Sawatari and Gongenzaka: 1100-400 LP
Damn it! Gongenzaka groaned, sitting up and glancing at Sawatari who was looking at him with a concerned expression, completely frozen in place. What is he…?
"Sawatari!" He roared out of anger. "What the hell are you doing just standing there?!"
"Shut up! I don't see you doing much either!" He snapped, before softening his glare. He looked away with shame. "I…"
He didn't get it. Sawatari never hesitated in a Duel before. Now, here he was, frozen in place and not even going for an Action Card or fully utilizing the capabilities of his Monsters. Why…
Gongenzaka's eyes widened as the realization dawned on him.
I see. Sawatari, you…
"Now, to end this!" Gloria smiled, glancing st her sister, who gave a sharp nod in response.
"Amazoness Augusta, finish this Duel!" Grace shouted as her Monster through swung her blade down.
Gongenzaka quickly darted his eyes to Sawatari. He saw the most miniscule movement in Sawatari's body. However, he clearly stopped and looked conflicted.
Gongenzaka glanced to his left, seeing an Action Card lying on the ground lodged in between two rocks. Time seemed to slow for him as the words of his father rang through his head.
"The Gongenzaka method of Steadfast Dueling is not simply a method. It is a way of lie, and it cannot be forsaken. To do so would bring great shame to you and your family. Never forget that, Noboru. However, there is one exception to the rule. There is one greater shame than forsaking your ideals. When faced with a dilemma between the Steadfast Duel and your comrades, then always…"
Sawatari…you idiot!
"ALWAYS CHOOSE YOUR COMRADES, NOBORU! NEVER FORSAKE YOUR COMRADES!"
"Action Magic, Selection of Miracle!"
"What?!" Sawatari's eyes widened, his gaze shooting back to Gongenzaka, who now Had a Magic Card hologram in front of him.
"I can either prevent a Monster from being destroyed in battle or half the damage. I half the battle damage!" Gongenzaka exclaimed as the wave hit. "GAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
Gongenzaka's body smashed Into a pile of rubble.
Sawatari and Gongenzaka: 400-50 LP
Sawatari gasped, "Gongenzaka!"
He ran as fast he possibly could over to his larger teammate.
"Gongenzaka!"
Sawatari knelt onto a knee, grasping the Synchro user's shoulder.
"Gongenzaka!" He yelled once more, earning a groan from the Superheavy Samurai user. "Are you okay?"
Gongenzaka sat up, grimacing as he did. "It will take more than that to keep me down."
Sawatari breathed a sigh of relief. He glared at his comrade with a stern gaze.
"Just what the hell were you thinking?!" He shouted. "What you just did…you completely restricted your Deck for the rest of the Duel!"
"It's either that or we lose." Gongenzaka replied. "I know what you are doing, Sawatari. You don't need to hold back for my sake."
"I-"
"Don't speak! Let me finish." Gongenzaka interjected. He met Sawatari's gaze with his own, "Go all out, Sawatari. You are a much stronger Duelist than any of us give you credit for. You have the potential…to become a Duelist that rivals even Akaba Reiji!"
"Me?" Sawatari repeated. "Rival Akaba Reiji? You must be-"
"Believe in your power, Sawatari Shingo!" Gongenzaka shouted at the top of his lungs, startling the blond.
"..."
"Touching speech." Grace taunted, inserting a Card into her Duel Disk. "Too bad it won't help you. I set this Card facedown. Turn end."
As it was the end of the turn, the effect of Superheavy Samurai Glo-V wore off, returning the Attack of Amazoness Augusta to normal.
Augusta: 0-3200 Atk
"Remember what I said, Sawatari." Gongenzaka said once more. "And do not hold back."
"Gongenzaka…" Sawatari whispered, nearly speechless. He nodded with determination. "I understand. I've received your feelings, Gongenzaka."
Sawatari rose to his feet, glaring at the Tyler Twins. He walked forward with a confident stride, a grin on his face.
"Bear witness! This is the great Sawatari's Super Show!"
"Sawatari's…" Gloria started with a suspicious gaze.
"...Super Show?" Grace finished with an interested tone.
"It's my turn, draw!" Sawatari ripped off the top Card of his Deck, glancing at the Card briefly before placing it into his Hand.
"Sawatari, make use of my Pendulum Scales!" Gongenzaka bellowed.
"Got it!" Sawatari nodded, raising his hand into the air, a large pendulum swinging between the two Pendulum Monsters. "Using the set Pendulum Scale, I Pendulum Summon! Come to me, my quintet!"
A blue portal opened above Sawatari, spitting out five colorful beams of light, each of which took a place on the Field.
"First, from my Extra Deck, Abyss Actor - Extra, Abyss Actor - Curtain Raiser, and Abyss Actor - Mellow Madonna, and Abyss Actor - Big Star! And now from my Hand, Abyss Actor - Sassy Rookie!"
The five Monsters all appeared in front of Sawatari.
Sassy Rookie: Level 4, 1700 Atk, 1000 Def
"Continuous Trap, Amazoness Battle Cry!" Grace shouted, revealing a Trap Card depicting Amazoness Fighter screaming, the sheer strength of her voice breaking the ground around her. "Once per turn, when you Special Summon a Monster(s), I can target an Amazoness Monster I control and increase the Attack and Defense of the Monster by the total Attack of the Monsters you Special Summoned until the end of the turn."
"What?!" Gongenzaka widened his eyes. "Sawatari Summoned five Monsters…"
The combined Attack of the five Monsters Sawatari Summoned was 7200. As a result, Grace increased the Attack of Amazoness Augusta by 7200. Amazoness Augusta let out a fierce roar as a red aura appeared Around her body, increasing her Attack.
Augusta: 3200-10400 Atk, 2800-10000 Def
"Give it up!" Gloria gloated with a mad grin. "Our Monster far surpasses any of yours! Face your fate and become a Card!"
Sawatari firmly shook his head in refusal, bringing confusion to the Tyler Twins and even Gongenzaka.
"I will never give up." He started with a growing smile. "My comrade has given up his way of fighting for me. There is no way I can't bust my ass off just as much as he did. Besides, the performance isn't over until the last Card is played!"
"Sawatari…" Gongenzaka whispered, stunned by Sawatari's unusually mature words.
"Now then, the fun begins now! Our show isn't over just yet!" Sawatari exclaimed, raising his hands flamboyantly into the air. "I activate the effect of Abyss Actor - Big Star! Once per turn, I can add an Abyss Script Magic Card from my Deck to my Hand. I add Abyss Script - Closing Ceremony to my Hand! This Card will go to my Graveyard at the end of the turn, but that doesn't matter! Next, I activate Cyclone to destroy your last set Card!"
Appearing out of Sawatari's Magic Card was a torrent of wind that enveloped Grace's hidden Card, destroying it, much to the annoyance of the Tyler Twins.
"I release Abyss Actor - Extra and Abyss Actor - Mellow Madonna to Advance Summon Abyss Actor - Devil Heel!"
Replacing two of Sawatari's Monsters on the Field was a large purple monstrosity with red eyes and a red-toothed mouth on its stomach.
Devil Heel: Level 8, 3000 Atk, 2000 Def
"I activate the effect of Abyss Actor - Devil Heel!" Sawatari announced, motioning towards the new arrival to the Field. "I can decrease the Attack of a Monster you control by 1000 for each Abyss Actor Monster I control right now!"
"What?!" Grace's eyes bulged.
"He has four Abyss Actor Monsters…" Gloria seethed. "That means…"
"That your Amazoness Augusta loses 4000 Attack!" Sawatari cheered, pointing at the warrior.
Devil Heel vomited a dark gooey energy at Amazoness Augusta. The warrior from the amazon was submerged in the substance. She let out a cry of pain as she could feel her strength being drained.
Augusta: 10400-6400 Atk
"Tch!" Gloria grunted, before a smile returned to her features. "It doesn't matter! Our Monster is still stronger than any of yours!"
"For now, that is. As I said before, the performance isn't over until the last Card is played. And I still have more Cards to use!" Sawatari interjected, inserting a Card into his Duel Disk. "I will now activate the Card I added to my Hand! Magic Card, Abyss Script - Closing Ceremony!"
In front of Sawatari a Magic Card depicting Big Star taking a deep bow as curtains closed on his figure came into existence.
"For the rest of this turn, whenever an Abyss Actor Monster I control battles with a Monster whose Attack is higher, the Attack of the enemy's Monster is decreased by the Attack of the battling Abyss Actor Monster!" Sawatari explained.
"That doesn't matter! You'll still take the damage from each battle! And with 50 Life Points left, you're sure to lose!" Grace exclaimed, throwing her arm to the side.
"Not with this next Magic Card!" Sawatari revealed, swiping the Card into his Duel Disk as it unveiled itself in front of him. It was a Magic Card that depicted Abyss Actor - Devil Heel taking an oncoming attack for Big Star. "I activate the Continuous Magic Card, Abyss Script - Show Must Go On! Now, as long as I control an Abyss Actor Monster, I take no damage in battle!"
Gongenzaka smiled with joy. Sawatari had just made a brilliant play. He could see something like this coming from Yuya at the end of a Duel. No matter what the odds, he never gave up until the end.
It seemed he underestimated Sawatari so much that he never saw such perseverance in him…
"Let's begin. Battle!" Sawatari smirked, thrusting his hand forward. "Abyss Actor - Curtain Raiser will make the first attack!"
Sawatari's Monster leapt into the air towards Amazoness Augusta. However, it was easily cleaved in half by the fearless female warrior. The Monster split into millions of particles, yet Sawatari remained unfazed and continued.
"Now, your Amazoness Augusta will lose Attack equal to Curtain Raiser's 1100!"
Amazoness Augusta grimaced, her legs buckling as her strength decreased even more.
Augusta: 6400-5300 Atk
"And now, Sassy Rookie will make the next attack!"
Sassy Rookie charged towards the opposing Fusion Monster. Just like it's ally, it was too easily struck back. However, unlike Curtain Raiser, Sassy Rookie survived the blow Amazoness Augusta had dealt thanks to its own effect of being able to prevent its destruction in battle once per turn.
A red aura surrounded Amazoness Augusta. The warrior let out a moan, dropping to a knee as her strength was sapped from the battle.
Augusta: 5300-3600 Atk
"Now, Abyss Actor - Devil Heel, attack Amazoness Augusta!"
The purple giant charged forward with a roar, ramming right into Amazoness Augusta. The woman let out a groan, standing firm and digging her feet into the ground. Though it was great effort, Amazoness Augusta managed to thrust her sword through into Devil Heel's mouth and out the other side of its body, destroying the Monster.
However, just like the previous two attacks, Amazoness Augusta once again found her strength leaving her. And this time, she fell to both knee, lodging her sword into the ground in an attempt to support herself.
Augusta: 3600-600 Atk
"Damn it!" Gloria cursed with venom. "This can't be happening! Not to us!"
"Amazing…" Unlike her sister, Grace was in complete awe. "Despite being at such a massive disadvantage from the start, he managed to turn it around like this…"
"But of course!" Sawatari replied, snapping his fingers excitedly. "That is the true essence of Entertainment Dueling! To be able to come back no matter what kind of a pinch you're in!"
"Entertainment Dueling…" Gloria and Grace both repeated, pondering the weight of Sawatari's words.
"Well said, Sawatari." Gongenzaka nodded in approval. He could imagine Yuya saying the same thing. Perhaps it was the Entermate user who had taught Sawatari that lesson. "Now, finish this!"
"With pleasure! Abyss Actor - Big Star, attack Amazoness Augusta and finish this Duel!" Sawatari commanded with a fierce thrust of his fist.
Abyss Actor - Big Star cackled, condensing a handful of energy within the palms of its hands and forming into a star-shaped ball of energy. The dark performer threw its energy towards Amazoness Augusta.
The star lodged itself into Augusta's stomach, imploding from the inside. The warrior screamed in pain as she was blown to pieces generating fierce shockwaves that ruptured the ground.
Gloria and Grace both cried out in pain, their bodies getting thrown back from the force of the destruction. Their bodies hit the ground, rolling through the dirt in the destroyed city as their Life Points dropped.
Gloria and Grace: 1700-0 LP
Sawatari and Gongenzaka had emerged victorious, standing triumphantly over the enemies who had bested them so easily last time. And now, despite the massive disadvantage they had during the Tag Duel, they managed to pull through.
Sawatari's Monsters disappeared from the Field, signifying the end of the Duel.
"Good job, Sawatari." Gongenzaka congratulated his teammate with a smile. "Without you, we surely would have lost."
Sawatari grinned. "Of course. The great I certainly helped us bring victory…is what I would like to say." He paused, giving Gongenzaka a grateful nod. "However, you shouldn't disregard yourself. Without you, I wouldn't have been able to pull off my winning combo."
The blonde-haired boy stuck out his hand, much to Gongenzaka's surprise.
The giant smiled, grasping Sawatari's hand tightly. Unfortunately for the Abyss Actor user, neither of them had accounted for the size difference. As a result, Sawatari found himself howling from the pain of Gongenzaha's hand crushing his own.
"Stopstopstopstopstop!" The boy cried out.
Gongenzaka immediately let go, giving Sawatari an apologetic look.
"Forgive me."
"Agh!" Sawatari groaned flailing his throbbing hand around to relieve the pain. "You really have to watch your strength, big guy…"
Just then, the two Lancers heard the mechanical roars of engines in the distance. They turned to see a trio of Security members driving toward them.
Instinctively, they lifted their guards. They knew that the Security Duelists weren't under Roget's control anymore. However, that didn't mean they forgot how they were hunted and chased by them.
"Are you two alright?" One of the three Security members questioned.
"Yeah, no thanks to y-"
Gongenzaka cut off Sawatari, elbowing him in the stomach, causing the boy to cough from the pain.
"We are fine." Gongenzaka answered more politely. "We were on our way to help our comrades at the Duel Monastery when we came across the Tyler Twins." The Superheavy Samurai user motioned towards the fallen figures of their opponents.
"Understood." Another member of the Security Duelists nodded, getting out of his d-wheel alongside the third. Both of them pulled out a pair of handcuffs.
Gongenzaka's brain lit up at the sight of them.
"I see…" He muttered. "You are restraining the defeated Academia Duelists so they cannot interfere later…"
"Yes." One of the Duelists replied as they walked to the bodies of the Tyler Twins.
Removing the Duel Disks from the Tyler Twins' wrist, they applied the handcuffs to their hands. As they put on the handcuffs, both of the sisters stirred.
"RGH!" Gloria growled, her hands pushing on the cuffs to try and break out, but to no avail. "Let us go, you bastards!"
"No." Came the dry response from the Security members in perfect unison.
Grace, however, looked at Sawatari with an awestruck gaze.
"Entertainment Dueling, huh?" She mumbled.
The Security Duelists ignored her, returning their attention to Sawatari and Gongenzaka.
"You two should make your way to the Duel Monastery." One of three authorities said. "We will continue to look for any other Duelists or civilians."
Gongenzaka nodded in response. He knew what they had to do. Their comrades were fighting for their lives up on that mountain. And here they were not helping them.
"Understood. Let's go, Sawatari!"
"Right!"

Abyss Script - Closing Ceremony, Magic: This turn, when an Abyss Actor Monster battles an opponent's Monster whose Attack is higher, the Attack of the opponent's decreases by the Attack of the Abyss Actor Monster that battled. If this set Card in its owner's control is destroyed and you have a face-up Pendulum Monster in your Extra Deck, you can add an Abyss Script Magic Card from your Graveyard to your Hand. You can only activate one Abyss Script - Closing Ceremony per turn.
Abyss Script - Show Must Go On, Magic, Continuous: As long as you control an Abyss Actor Monster, you take no battle damage. If this set Card in its owner's possession is destroyed and you have a face-up Abyss Actor Pendulum Monster in your Extra Deck, you can add an Abyss Actor Pendulum Monster from your Extra Deck to your Hand.
Another chapter done and in the books!
So yeah, in this chapter, we see Edo's backstory. It is similar to his backstop from Gx, but adjusted to include Akaba Leo in it. A bit more inside into both characters.
And then, the main brunt of the chapter. Sawatari and Gongenzaka face Grace and Gloria in a rematch. And this time they emerge victorious. Both Sawatari and Gongenzaka haven't gotten a solid win against any competent opponents in this fic yet so this is a chance to rectify that. Not only do we see the extent of Sawatari's development, we also see how much a true friend Gongenzaka is, willing to throw the teachings of his treasured Steafast Dueling to the side in order to save a comrade.
And with this Duel, the Tyler Twins have been taken out of the battle.
