"She's doing well. I thought she would be a bit more-" Madame President paused to find the right word. She has previously visited with the heads of G and T Corps before coming to this section, but their candidates have already been eliminated in the first and second events. Their pool of candidates they could contribute to the operation was limited, leaving them to turn to him. Her eyes slipped over to the man who was the head of the newest corporation of the A.B.C. corporations, the Prosperity Corporation. The Director had peppery hair rapidly turning grey, blank chartreuse eyes, and skin so pale you would think he was a vampire. It was not his physical abilities that worried her, but his character and his knowledge.
"Unstable?" the Director added helpfully, a pleasant smile gracing his face.
The president nodded in affirmation as she set down a clipboard containing some basic information about the Prosperity Corp. employee admitted into Class 1-D after a few slots opened following the Unforeseen Simulation Joint incident, allowing her to appear in the U.A. Sports Festival.
"Yes, as the sole survivor of Operation Ashes, her age makes her more susceptible to lasting mental issues. As stipulated in our contract with B, I had a personal hand in repairing her mental state to a state agreeable to the terms set. The wounds she sustained were extensive, but nothing that could not be patched up with the right quirks." The Director said assuredly.
"So you say." Madame President said tonelessly as she watched the festival progress.
On-screen, the third and final round of the first-year segment of the festival began; they observed the first round, which was a boy with messy purple hair with a brainwashing quirk versus a boy with green hair and eyes with some sort of strength-enhancing quirk that had significant drawback to the user.
"Who do you think is going to win, Director Garaki?"
"Hmm, I'm sort of biased for mind quirks, Madame President. Shinso's quirk is perfect in one-off scenarios, and so far, his irritating personality can help ensure a response. Still, his lack of training and physical attributes make him quite vulnerable to Midoriya's superior physical attributes." The Director commented as he watched on the screen as the two competitors walked onto the stage. He gave a short hum as before and gave a clear answer. "I will go with Midoriya." Director Garaki commented cheerfully.
"That's a surprise."
"Not really; despite the drawbacks, I think Midoriya's mindset will counter Shinso's."
The president stayed quiet, remaining skeptical of the Director's prediction. They both waited for the result in earnest and true to his answer. Just as it looked, Midoriya was about to step out of bounce; he snapped out of his trance by breaking his finger and then quickly throwing Shinso out of bounds.
"Looks like my prediction was correct," Director Garaki said with a certain amount of self-satisfaction.
"It seems so."
No other words were exchanged from there until the match they both had a mutual interest in, appeared. It was no secret that there was a particular strain between the President of the HPSC and the Director of Prosperity Corp. Neither side would voice it, so it remained there quietly, simmering, yet visible for all to see.
After a couple more matches, the first marquee match-up finally appeared. Entering from one side was a girl with pink hair and pink skin; the other was a girl with blonde hair and golden eyes.
"I'm quite interested to see how she has progressed since I last saw her."
"Hmm, I did not know you met her?" The Director said with interest.
"I met her a bit before, actually. Before she was screened to be a part of your program that became Prosperity Corporation." She said
"That was three years ago, wasn't it?"
"It was."
"Then, hopefully, her performance satisfies you. She had gotten pretty far with her quirk before that unfortunate incident, which nearly forced us to start from scratch." Director Garaki stated.
"I thought you said you could made her 'whole'." Madame President questioned.
"Whole, what particular word to use? Before I gave the go-ahead to begin the recovery process, I consulted several professionals on what must be done to satisfy the contract. It's an old insurance term that means an insurance company is to compensate insured people for their losses before taking any money for themselves. This means an insurance company replaces the lost or damaged property with a monthly amount, not necessarily one for one, replacing the lost or damaged property. With that in mind, we interpreted that clause as getting our operative back into a state that allows her to live without debilitating long-term injuries or major mental illnesses." Director Garaki calmly explained.
"And why not get her back to a state nearly identical to what she was before she was deployed in Operation Ashes?" She pressed to try to get a reaction out of him. She knew Operation Ashes was a complete disaster. All objectives failed, and three teams of S.A.I. were wiped out; only the girl survived. To this day, she never understood the operation's goal, but it was a subject she knew would needle the Director.
"Quite simply, if not for our contract with B, then I would have deemed her totaled. Her mind and body were broken. The injury report alone was over 19 pages long. We did what we could. We were able to fix her body and appearance, but some things were lost, like memories, muscle memory, and her quirk identities. But her match is about to begin, so let's watch," Director Garaki crossed his arms and frowned.
"We are moving to the 6th match! Is there any purpose for those horns sticking out of the head? From hero course, it's Ashido Mina!"
"I think I got this." Mina said confidently, looking towards her opponent, a girl with golden eyes and blonde pigtails.
"She hasn't really done much, but hey, she's here, and she knows no fear. It's Hattori Junko from Class 1-D's general course!"
"Thank you for the introduction, President Mic." Junko began to pose with V signs before twirling around towards Mina and saying, "Don't underestimate me just because I'm in general studies."
"Love the energy, girl, but I'm taking you down!"
"Right, back at you, with the world looking at us, I'm going to go all out!"
"Looks like you two are fired up! Are you ready, ladies?" Midnight said enthusiastically.
"Ready, Midnight-Sensei." Mina replied with a mischievous smile crawling up her face.
"Yes, ma'am!" Junko said, smiling and saluting.
"Then, let the battle begin!" Midnight shouted, jumping back and signaling the start of the fight.
As soon as the fight started, Mina dashed towards Junko, hoping to catch her off guard with her acid-boosted mobility. She then formed some mild irritants in her hand and tossed them towards her opponent.
Junko sidestepped the acid balls, put up her fists in a boxing position, and cheekily said, "Ehh, you missed."
"Nice, dodging, but you're playing right into my hand." Mina yelled out as she threw herself into the first punch.
Junko grunted as she blocked the first punch and countered with a punch of her own, but Mina quickly saw it coming from a mile away. She ducked under the punch, landed a punishing block to the stomach, and followed up with a kick that sent Junko flying a few meters.
"Ha! You're too slow, Hattori! You can't touch me with those lame punches!" Mina said as she watched her opponent slowly pick herself up.
"That was a nice one-two combo, but that won't be enough to take down," Junko said as she rushed towards Mina for another round.
"And the fight continues!" Mic yelled while the crowd cheered.
Back in the conference room, the Director and the President were taking notes on the fight. The look on the face of the Director was not one of concern or care but one of careful thought.
"You do seem very concerned about how this fight is progressing." She stated as she watched Junko barely roll out of the way of acid being thrown her way.
"Junko has not yet used her quirk." He replied as he continued taking notes as Junko and Mina's fight continued.
"Based on operative Junko's movements and fighting ability, I assume her ability has significantly degraded far more than expected. Was there an issue with the treatment process?" She asked with a bit of terseness, coloring her tone. It was as if she was asking the Director why he sent her out there in the first place.
"The treatment process was completed on schedule. Her rehab and reconditioning were not completed in time for the mission you issued." He countered as he turned to face the president.
"Then why send her out? Did Prosperity Corporation not have any other candidates?"
"Operative Junko should still be able to win the fight; the acid girl does not have what it takes to defeat Junko." Director Garaki stated as he watched the fight, ignoring the question the president had asked.
"For our sake, I hope you are right." The president huffed as she fell back into her chair and watched the fight.
"Neh, why don't you give up? You look a bit winded, Hattori?" Mina asked with a bit of concern as she watched her pull herself up again. Her opponent has been slippery so far, but she looks worse for wear.
"Can't give up just yet, you know? The fans are watching, and I have yet begun to fight." Junko stated, half seriously, half comically. A small smile graced her lips as if she knew something no one else knew.
Mina giggled before shrugging and racing towards her opponent, hoping to get a finishing blow. As she charged, she launched two globs of weak acid at her opponent but instead of dodging. Junko raised her towards her mouth and bit her finger, drawing a bit of blood.
Two blobs of acid smashed into Junko, but instead of a girl in dirty gym wear, there was a girl cloaked head to toe in full-out riot gear. The riot gear consisted of a primarily black uniform with green highlights, a black helmet covering the face with a bluish visor, a shield with a K, and a baton saying 'go away' in bright green letters.
"What's this?! Is she a magical girl?!"
"No, it's her quirk Identity; it allows her to switch gear with a few drops of blood." Eraser Head yawned.
"So that's your quirk neat." Mina said as she began reevaluating her strategy. She watched her acid drip off the shield for a second before for the first time in this fight, she was on the defensive as Hattori was already coming at her.
Back in the meeting room, the President was perplexed by Junko's choice.
"A K Corp security officer?"
"Yes, apparently, there was some compatibility there."
"It's not that, I'm just surprised you would allow her to use equipment from a rival?"
"Operative Junko can make her own choice in this matter. As long as she succeeds with the mission, then it's fine." Garaki said as a matter of fact. He thought to himself as he watched the fight turn towards Junko, that identity is suitable for this occurrence. Whatever identity Junko assumes, a personality shift occurs, even if it is small, like liking apple versus pecan pie or liking the color blue versus dark blue. In this case, however, the K Corp security officer's identity is less expressive and more to the point than her new base personality. Hopefully, she finishes the fight quickly, not waste her energy and his time.
Junko pressed her assault, hoping to close the distance and prevent her from retreating and using her superior range. She swung her baton at Ashido's torso, but Ashido ducked and took a risk, rolling to the side and spraying some acid at her side. Junko ignored it as her gear was thick enough to prevent contact between her skin and the acid, and she used the opportunity to strike her opponent's arm.
"Say, Hattori, did you really have to hit me that hard?" Mina said as she wiggled her arm around and felt a bruise form.
"Surrender, and you can go to the nurse's office to heal your arm." A stern, monotone voice exited the armor. It did not fit the cheerful girl that Mina was fighting, but Mina did not think much about it as her mind was on one thing only: Winning.
"Can't do that, Hattori; you said it yourself. The world is watching." Mina smiled as she prepared some more acid.
Hattori was silent for a second before replying, "Very well."
Hattori dashed at Mina, swinging her baton again. Mina blocked it with her arm but felt a jolt of pain. She counterattacked with a blast of acid from her hand, aiming for Hattori's chest. Hattori blocked it with her shield, but the opaque acid obscures her vision. Hattori move the shield out of the way so she could see her opponent, but not before Mina took the opportunity to try to sweep her legs.
Hattori reacted quickly and struck her opponent on the head, leaving her dazed. Junko used this opportunity, grabbed Mina, and tossed her out of the arena with all her might.
"Hattori advances to the next round." Midnight declared to the roar of the crowd.
Junko dropped the transformation and yelled, "Victory!" while making V-signs with both hands.
"And it's a ring out! What a fight?"
Junko stepped out of the ring and headed towards her opponent.
"Ohh, did you have a bonk on the head that hard?" Mina whined as she rubbed her head.
Junko offered her fallen opponent a hand, "Sorry about that, but I wanted to win, you know."
Mina accepted a helping hand and stood up, "It's fine. Recovery Girl can heal me up, and I will be alright. But man, that was a good fight."
"What sportsmanship! Can we get around applause for Ashido Mina and Hattori Junko!"
"And now for the 7th match of the first round!"
President Sayaka relaxed just a little bit, feeling relieved. A general studies student who won a match versus a student from the hero course usually joins the hero course. She wondered if U.A. would remove a student or increase the number of students in classes 1A and 1B. Ethier way, it does not matter.
"Looks like the mission is go?" Director Garaki smiled softly, which slightly irritated the president. That smile reminded her why she hoped for one of the other candidates to make it that far.
"Yes, we can proceed." She sighed again as she felt another headache coming up.
"Hmm, before we proceed, I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a brief overview of the main goals of this mission. I have to prepare a report for Junko and ensure that we have the appropriate protocols and tools in place." He asked.
"I'll make this brief; objective one is getting a better idea of All Might's status."
Japan's number-one hero has been quite elusive, and his appearances are becoming less and less frequent. Something was wrong with the Number One Hero, and HSPC wanted to know what was wrong with him. If there is a solution that could help mitigate the problem or perhaps it is time to start planning for the future. He thought to himself as his thoughts returned to the creature that was taken into custody, Nomu. It was familiar, not that he knew or had seen the creature previously, but it did remind him of someone he had fallen out with a year ago.
"Objective two: Find potential individuals who are compatible with the HPSC and its ideas."
The HSPC was all about maintaining the status quo. It was created to stabilize society and prevent any quirk-related chaos. But the HSPC had many dark secrets, and it was only a matter of time before they exploded. The near exposure of the Nagant program was one of them. The President was unaware of the looming crisis, the biggest one since the First Quirk Wars. And if he was a betting man, D Corp and a particular department within the HSPC would be the fuel that helps set up crises alight. The Director turned his thoughts away from the President's briefing; he thought about the main reason he had submitted a candidate in the first place. He quickly shot down that train of thought as he noticed the President was almost done giving him a rundown of what was expected.
"Thank you, Madame President. I'll be informing Junko of her objectives." The Director said as he stood up and headed to his office. He felt the burning gaze of the President on his back but ignored it as his thoughts turned towards the future.
"So what do you think?" Midnight asked her colleagues as they finished watching the film of Hattori Junko and a few other candidates for the hero course.
"It's an interesting quirk." Vlad King said as he took a mild interest in the blood requirement for the quirk.
"I'm not sold on her. She barely made it by the first two rounds of the festival." Eraser Head spoke up. And he was right, as Junko placed 42 in the first stage and got herself brainwashed in the second round.
"I don't know, but she got a win against your student, so that got to count for something." President Mic countered.
"And then she got trounced against Bakugo in the next round. It was like she was not even trying as hard compared to her first fight." Eraser Head. In her fight against Bakugo, she was on the defensive the entire time, and the equipment she used was interesting, to say the least. An Idol costume with a pink staff versus what she used in the round before heavy riot gear.
"Hmm, what do you think, All Might?" Nezu chimed in.
All Might thought a bit before answering, "I think she has a unique quirk that could be used in many circumstances; her fighting prowess she displayed in the first round is adequate for a first-year, though I do agree with Eraser Head that she chose equipment that was not suited towards the situation, she also seemed to be more relaxed in her second fight then on her first one. But she did have a few bright spots in that fight, like how she used glitter to blind Bakugo."
"How insightful; I believe I have a solution to this conundrum. We stick Hattori in 1-A and Shinso in 1-B, making it 21 students per class." Nezu proclaimed.
"I would rather have Shinso in my class." "I would like to take Junko under my wings." Eraser Head and Vlad King said simultaneously.
"And that's why I'm doing the exact opposite." Nezu cackled.
Everyone's face vaulted at the proclamation.
"Now, now, don't give me that look, especially you, Aizawa; favoritism is something we should strive to above, so all in favor of admitting these 2 in the hero course?" Nezu stated thoughtfully, leaving no room for argument.
Everyone in the room raised their hands, though Vlad King and Eraser Head seemed a bit disappointed with who they were getting. Eraser Head wanted to speak up about how unlogical Nezu's conclusion was. Vlad could help the girl since her quirk was blood-related, and he could have helped Shinso, who reminded him of himself. But Nezu's words were final regarding these types of propositions.
"Splendid, I'll get to papers sent out to them; the meeting adjourned."
As everyone began to file out of the room. Nezu began to look at the Junko file again. He could put his word to it, but something felt a bit off with her file. "How exciting!"
"Oh hey, Shinso, what are you doing here?" Midoriya asked as he saw Shino walking towards the classrooms where the hero students were.
"I'm in the hero course now; I'd like to thank you for believing in me."
"It's no problem. Are you in 1-A or-"
"1-B." He said with a bit of disappointment.
"The girl at the before-school orientation with me will join 1-A." Shinso said.
"The one that threw sparkly glitter into Kaachan's face back at the Sports Festival?"
"That one."
"Ohh, well, he is not going to be happy-"
"Who's not going to be happy?"
Midoriya turned around and was face to face with a girl they were just talking about. Well, it was sort of face-to-face as the girl looked up at him; she was at least 8 cm shorter than him.
"So close." She still looked the same back at the Sports Festival with long blonde hair styled in some pigtails, a little hair clip with a little crescent moon with a keyhole shape on it, and golden eyes, but instead of the standard U.A. gym clothes, she was wearing a girl's uniform and white gloves.
"Oops, sorry for getting in your space. My name is Hattori Junko. Let's get along." Hattori said as she smiled and did some V signs.
"It's too early in the morning to be this cheery, Hattori." Shinso groaned.
"It's never too early to have a little pep to your step, you know. And you." Hattori pointed at Midoriya.
"Me!?" Midoriya squawked.
"Yes... could you please show me the way to class 1-A?" Hattori asked.
"It's literally right over there." Shinso pointed out.
"Um, well then, can you be my escort?" She gave him a smile that he could not refuse.
Midoriya began to sweat nervously. Years of social isolation have not trained for this situation. "Uh, yes?"
"Great, then let's get going." Junko said as she dragged the poor boy along.
"R.I.P., he was a good friend." Shinso shrugged before heading to 1-B.
Dramatically, Hattori entered the room and posed: "Hello, everyone, my name is Hattori Junko; let's get along!"
It was followed by myriad responses, some positive, one angry, and some polite, but poor Midoriya was a bit catatonic with eyes dazed and red-faced.
Behind the doorway, Eraser Head sighed, "This is going to be a long day." before entering class.
This is my first New Story/Update in a while; this crossover was something I was interested in doing after I started playing Limbus Company. And its abit of experiment on my part.
