Chapter 3: The raid

Chase and Hunter were temporally blinded by the sun. Once they could see again Chase saw Ryder and the pups running towards him. He braced himself for the impact of his friends; Ryder picked him up and hugged him for a very long time. The smile on his face was so big, but it turned into a shocked open mouth expression when he saw hunter.

"Hunter," Ryder whispered with tears of joy

"Hi Ryder, it's been a long time, Its good to be home." Hunter said.

The pups all stood in awe that hunter was even alive. Though they had never seen him before they all said hi and welcomed him back. Hunter was glad to be back, but his eyes were filled with tears when he saw Skye.

"Skye," Hunter said.

"how do you know my name," Skye said with confusion.

"Well, you wouldn't remember, you were only a puppy, but a father never forgets his daughter," Hunter said as he started to cry.

"What, d-Dad, Ryder, why didn't you tell me hunter was my dad." Skye said with a iritatied tone.

"Probably because it was a long time ago and I myself forgot about it." Ryder defended.

"Dad, I, I can't belive this, well, I'm happy that you alive and that your home," Skye said.

"Oh, sunshine, come here," Hunter said.

Hunter and Skye, embraced each other, happy that they were both alive and well.

"It's good to have you back old pal," Ryder said.

"And I brought back what I was looking for," Hunter said.

"Me too," Chase said.

Ryder and the other pups examined the ore carts with wonder. Rocky fired up the old ore Furness and started to make pure gold, silver, and iron bars. There was so much of it, that it could not be counted in a day. The Ryder and the pups held the pure gold, silver, iron, and diamonds in their hands, and paws. Soon they began to use the precise metals to buy more food. They also built new homes and a wall around their village to protect them.

The pups began to live life like kings, it was so great. Everyone was so happy that they were no longer poor and hungry. Chase was satisfied that he had done his duty, but little did he know that the most evil, most vile dog roamed the mine below.

This dog by some ancient evil had the power of Chain lighting. He had the power to shoot lighting out of his paws. He has many names, but many simply call him death, because nobody has ever survived his attacks. That's what the legend says at least. Death roams thought the world looking for riches; he kills all people and pups that have gold, silver, iron, and diamonds.

Death walked through the mine. He saw the remains of Chase's mine shaft. And he smiled with that wicked smile that turns water to ice. He gathered his undead minions and walked towards the entrance. Chase had no idea, but death had watched him the whole time he was in the mine. Death liked to let others do the hard work, and then he would glide in like a hawk and do the easy part of killing and taking. Death and his minions headed of to take Chase's gold, and leave him and his friends bleeding on the ground.

Meanwhile Chase was laying down on a soft cushion atop the wall. he felt safe, or he should have felt safe, but somewhere in his stomach he felt a feeling that something bad was about to happen. He stood up and watched the sand dunes, he had and iron sword strapped to his back.

"Chase, it's daytime, any monster would be a fool to attack in the daytime, come and play with us and put you sword up for now, were safe," Skye said.

"Oh, Skye, I know I would love to play with you, but I've got this bad feeling in my stomach that there is something out there, something, evil, and it's my job to keep us safe."

"Okay, but you don't know what you missing." Skye said.

Nothing could have prepared Chase for what happened next. Chase was about to give up on looking for danger when his eyes fell on the old mine entrance. Chase thought that he had seen two glowing eyes in the dark opening, Chase rubbed his eye. Before he knew it, the glowing red eyes emerged into the light revealing a wolf, eyes Red as blood, mated fur, black like the night, a mouth full of deadly fangs. And behind him followed to other dogs, both clad in Diamond armor, but they weren't just any dogs, they were undead dogs. He also had to creepers with him.

Before the Chase could sound the alarm, the leading wolf raised his paw and shot a blast of blue lighting at the gate. The gate though made of iron was no match for the blast of lighting. The pups nearly jumped out of their fur, it took them completely by surprise. After a few seconds the pups realize that they are being raided. The scramble for there weapons, as the wolf named Death and his minions waltzed right into the gate, no blown to pieces. Chase drew his sword and confroted him, he swung his sword at the wolf. But it was met with a block from his attaker.

"What do you want with us," Chase yelled.

"I want you gold, silver, iron, And Diamonds," Death cackled.

"How do you know we if we even have that stuff?"

"Because I watched you mine, ever single chunk of ore, I watched you build your little box fort here, I watched every second of it." Death said with an evil snicker.

"No, no it can't be," Chase said with fear.

"And now, you die and watch as I take everything you worked for," Death said with a blood curdling laugh.

Before Chase could say another word, Death raised his paw and blasted Chase with 10,000 volts of electricity. Chase lay down on the ground, dazed from the blow. He saw through his blurred vision, on if the undead dogs ran his diamond blade strait through his friend Rocky's heart. Then he heard his other friend Zuma yelp in pain as another blade pierced his back. Chase desperately wanted to help, but he too was on the brink of death. One by one he watched his friends fall to the sword. He saw Death start collecting his gold and other ores, laughing the whole time.

"No, no, this can't be happening," Chase said to himself.

Then he saw something that made him burn hot with anger. Skye, lying on the ground, crying as a creeper approached her and began to explode. Chase was so angry that he didn't even think about what he was doing. Before he knew it he had leaped on the exploding bomb. He was lucky enough to shove the creeper right on top of Death. Then it exploded throwing Chase across the ground, and knocking him out cold, not to get up for a few hours, but that is a story for another time.
