Having reunited with Jibanyan, Komasan, and Usapyon, the next big step for the Hero Alliance was to recruit their first Legendary Yokai. To that end, Sunset knew just the one she wanted to start with: the stalwart Samurai Cat, Shogunyan.
"Shogunyan, eh? I'm guessing he's another cat Yokai like Jibanyan." Ragna said.
"Right on the Money," Hope said.
"So what's the deal with him being a Legendary Yokai?" Makoto asked.
"Within each of the original 8 Yokai tribes, there's a group of powerful Yokai that have a special status to them. They're known as Legendary Yokai. But you can't just find them like other Yokai, you need to gather a set of different Yokai Medals for each one." Sunset said. "Each Legendary Yokai needs a set of 8 specific medals. Thankfully, we've got a head start because we have 1 of the medals needed to summon him."
"Really? Whose is that?" Kieran asked.
"Mine, duh!" Jibanyan piped in.
"It would make sense in a way." Hyde said.
"So who are the other 7 we need to find to summon Shogunyan?" Al asked.
"Let's see…there's Mochismo, Tattletell, Castelius III, the power couple Happierre and Dismarelda, Draggie and Leadoni." Sunset listed.
"Quite the ensemble cast." Archer remarked.
"So, any idea where they are?" Mark asked.
"Well I know Draggie stays in a temple. Castelius and other Yo-kai like it would be in competitions, Leadoni leads people astray, Mochismo tosses mochi to the ground, Tattletell exposes your secrets, and the couple could be anywhere honestly. But just look out for any kind of discord between couples." Sunset said.
"Hmm…we may have to split up to try and find these guys." Jexi said.
"Oh, this is gonna be fun." Rainbow said.
In a certain temple…
Sunset walked up to it alongside Dan, Issei, Bow, and X as they entered the temple and saw a crystal ball sitting on a pillow.
"Hey….been awhile." Sunset said as she leaned towards the ball.
The ball then shook a bit before appearing as a small green dragon with a bib and orange hair and the ball sitting on top of his head.
Draggie
Slippery Tribe
"Sunset…" Draggie said, looking up to her.
"Yeah…I know." she said as Draggie ran up and hugged her.
"Aw, that's sweet." Bow said.
"And what's more….Draggie can actually see into the future as well as the hidden potential in others." Dan said.
"Wow, a mega-clarivoyant? That's nuts!" Bow said.
"I never stopped believing you'd return to making friends with Yo-kai, Sunset. I was worried for you though." Draggie said. "I saw a future where after you died and came back… well, let's just say things would go down a darker road for you. I'm…glad I was wrong."
"Hmm…Don't worry. We're still friends." Sunset said as they fist bumped as Draggie handed over his medal to her.
"That was really heartfelt, but something tells me gathering the other Yokai we need won't be as easy." X said.
"Some are easier to befriend than others. Oftentimes, you do have to get a little…violent." Sunset said.
"So…the others are going to get into battles?" Issei asked.
"A few of them? Probably." Sunset answered. "It all just depends on the personality."
Sports Stadium, Standard Universe…
"Dang it! How does this keep happening?" one guy said as he was finishing on a third place podium.
"Huh. That athlete always seems to get third place in everything, no matter how hard he tries. Don't suppose that's the work of our mark?" Ragna asked.
"Without a doubt. Anyone Castelius III inspirits always ends up in 3rd place no matter how good they are." Usopp said.
"That's…oddly specific." Pearl said.
"Believe it or not, there's a whole series of Castelius Yo-kai. And I got a feeling…." Izuku said using a makeshift light and shining it on the podium. "I was right." he said as there were three different castle shaped Yo-kai on the Podium.
Castelius III
Castelius II
Castelius I
Tough Tribe
"So we have a 3 for 1 deal going on." David said.
"So if Castelius III makes anybody get 3rd place in anything, does that mean the same goes for II and I in the higher effect?" Kaibara asked.
"That's right. Castelius II makes the inspirited get 2nd Place, while Castleius I makes bonafide winners out of anyone." Usopp said.
"I bet that makes competitions a nightmare for anyone really wanting to win something, but end up 3rd or 2nd instead." Ragna said.
"Perhaps we should go see what their intentions are here." Pearl suggested.
They headed down to the field where the three castle Yo-kai were talking.
"See that? My guy has been number one." Castelius I said.
"Yeah but my guys' slowly catching up." Castelius II said.
"Mine can still top yours." Castelius III said.
"Excuse us, gentlemen but…what exactly are you doing?" Pearl asked.
"Duh. We're competing so we can decide which of us gets to topple him." Castelius I said pointing to a large castle yo-kai made of platinum watching from up high.
Castelius Max
Tough Tribe
"Holy cow!" Kaibara said.
"That's Castelius Max. You could say he's the best. Those he inspirits are said to go beyond just winning and losing." Usopp said.
"I'm… not sure how anyone's supposed to beat that guy." Makoto said..
"That's why we're competing so we get the chance to topple him and take his place." Castelius II said.
"Okay…let me get this straight. You three lock your targets in specific places. So…doesn't that mean it's kinda pointless since you can only win those places?" Pearl asked.
The three looked at the group before reacting in sudden shock.
"You mean you three just now realized that?!" Usopp said.
"What have we been doing?!" Castelius II asked.
"Throwing your heads against the wall, for one. And here's another thing. If the guy Castelius I inspirits always wins at everything, that means he's the most likely to win and face Castelius Max everytime." Ragna said.
"He's right on the money." Castelius I said.
"Doesn't that get boring? Always knowing who's going to win if one of you always inspirit's the winner?" Kaibara asked. "Competitions are supposed to have unpredictability."
"...That's pretty childish thinking." the three of them said.
"Okay…I've had enough." David said as he went and knocked down Castelius Max before taking down the three other Castelius's. "There…problem…solved."
"I think you may have gone a bit overboard. Kaw!" Mitsunari said.
"Sorry. But there was only so much of that kind of malarkey and disrespect that I could take…" David said.
"Well, that's one way to do it, I suppose." Pearl said, collecting the medals of all four Casteli that had dropped. "We only needed one Castelius, but do you think we can use the medals of the other three for anything?"
"Sunset is trying to regain as many friends as she can. Just take them anyway." Usopp said.
"Fair enough." Pearl said. "Let's hope the other yokai we're looking for aren't as stubborn."
Meanwhile, a few cities away…
On a street after school had let out, some kids were wandering around before a voice called out.
"Hey…hey kid!" a voice said as a large arm beckoned to one of them. "Walk this way…" he said slowly moving away as one of the kids suddenly became entranced and followed the arm down a different alleyway.
The kid was stopped in their tracks when a hand grabbed the back of their shirt and yanked them back, before being shaken out of their trance by a snap of the fingers.
"Get home, kid. This place isn't safe." Mark stated as the kid ran off, the half-angel walking into the alley followed by Catra and Nami. "Thought Sunset talked you out of doing this to kids, Leadoni."
"Sorry, what can I say? For Yo-kai…old habits die hard." spoke a small blue oni with a large left arm.
Leadoni
Shady Tribe
"Y'know, for an Oni Yokai, I was expecting something a little more scary looking." Catra said.
"Hey, we can't all be scary!" Leadoni said. "There's only one Oni among us you don't wanna cross paths with, furball."
"Who's that?" Catra said.
"Gargaros, he's big…he's mean….and…." Leadoni said as a fog rolled in as a large figure was coming in behind the trio. "Right behind you!"
They turned around and saw a big red oni wielding a giant club as he roared.
Gargaros
Tough Tribe
"Yep…he's still as intimidating as ever." Nami said.
"You sure?" Mark asked genuinely. "I'm…not really feeling it."
"How can you not be scared after seeing him?! Gargaros is feared by a lotta people, especially those who wander out when Terror Time goes active. He chases them down to punish them." Nami said.
"Punish them for… what exactly?" Catra asked.
"Oh…you wanna find out?" Gargaros asked as he lifted his club up and slamming it towards the three, only to find it stopped. "Huh?" he said seeing Mark holding it.
"News flash, big guy: you're not dealing with a ten-year-old." Mark said as he pushed the club aside and coated his arm in metal as he landed an uppercut on Gargaros's jaw, sending the oni up into the air before crashing back down. "C'mon, get up. I'm sure you can do better than that, right?" he asked.
"Grrr….now you're in for it!" Gargaros said lifting his club. "Here it comes! Iron Anger!" he said swinging the club down as if bringing down a meteor.
"Yikes!" Leadoni said. "There's no way he's gonna be able to block that!"
Mark grinned as he watched the club come down, before he transformed into his Vajra Angel Form, holding the club with two hands, the ground under him shattering. "Now that's more like it! C'mon, put everything you got into it!" he urged the large oni on.
"Grrr…!" Gargaros struggled as he pushed down on the club with all his strength, yet unable to do so much as make the boy take a knee.
"With Mark holding him down like that, he's wide open. I'm gonna get some shots in." Catra said.
"Are you crazy?!" Leadoni exclaimed.
"I've seen worse than tall, red and gruesome there. And besides, Sunset's counting on us to build her friendship circle up again. And I'm willing to bet that the big guys' got a medal too." Catra said.
"Okay…that does it. Brothers! I need back up!" Gargaros called out as two more Oni came out. One colored blue and another colored black.
Ogralus
Orcanos
Tough Tribe
"I admit I underestimated you three. This is a three man job." Gargaros said as all three oni roared at them.
"Hmm…yeah…but…" Catra said as she pounced onto Gargaros's face and started scratching it up.
"Ah! Get off me!" he cried out trying to get her off.
"I've got her!" both of his oni brothers said, swinging their clubs, only to nail Gargaros right in the face.
"That's not the kitty…that's…my…face." Gargaros said in a daze.
"Brother!" both oni called out.
Catra had jumped off Gargaros' face just seconds before Ogralus and Orcanus could strike, and now Gargaros was stunned.
"You'll pay for that!" Ogralus said as he summoned a blast of water that rushed right towards Catra.
"No thanks, I'm not in the mood for a bath!" Catra said, dodging again as Orcanos was the one who got soaked instead.
"Why you little…!" Orcanos said, raising his club high in the air… which was a big mistake.
"Hey, I've got a question. Ever wonder why it's dangerous to raise a metal object into the air while you're soaking wet in the middle of a thunderstorm?" Catra asked.
"Huh? What are you even talking abou-?" Orcanos said as a dark cloud was formed above.
"Now Zeus! Zeus Tempo!" Nami called out as lightning struck Orcanos's club, electrocuting the oni, leaving him smoking before he fell over in a smoldering mess.
"And then there was one." Mark said as Ogralus was the last one left standing. "So…you wanna keep going?" he asked, cracking his knuckles.
Ogralus was in shock before he dropped his club and started groveling along with his brothers.
"We give up! Please spare us!" the three of them begged.
"Wow…" Leadoni said. "Sunset…made some interesting friends."
"Yeah…and they can be a bit much sometimes." Nami said.
"Well, that settles it." Leadoni said as he pulled out his medal. "I'm going back on the wagon! Better than suffering what those three went through."
"Cmon, I'm not bad as Mark, am I?" Catra asked.
"You showed no fear against three of the four oni brothers. And you beat them really easily." Leadoni said.
"Yeah, I guess I am pretty fearless- wait, there's a fourth one?" Catra asked.
"Gilgaros. He's another Legendary Yo-kai. Unlike these three though, he doesn't have much of a problem with humans." Nami said.
"Yeah…shame he hasn't been seen for awhile…" Leadoni mentioned. "Anyway, why don't we head back to the ship so you can tell Sunset how I've not been getting children lost again?"
"You made the sandwich, Leadoni." Mark said as the four started to walk out of the alley.
"Wait!" Gargaros called out as the four turned back, seeing three medals being rolled over to them. "Give these to her."
Catra picked up the medals, seeing that they were for the three Boss Yokai.
"We won't cause you trouble anymore. Promise." Ogralus said.
"We'll be friends from this day forth." Orcanos said.
"Well that's nice of you." Catra said as they headed out. "Four oni for the price of one, this was a good grab."
"Yeah. Though I admit, I was not expecting us to take on all three of them." Nami said.
"I still call it a win." Catra said.
"You've been with this group from the start, and you didn't expect things to escalate?" Mark asked.
"Yeah, but…well…doesn't matter. We still won." Nami said. "Though….what Leadoni said…I guess that means all the Legendary Yo-kai vanished around the same time the war happened."
"We're just going to have to summon them all back using the method we're using for Shogunyan." Catra said. "But we'll get to Gilgaros later."
"Yeah." Mark nodded, even as he was in thought. "(It makes sense that the Legends disappeared when the medals did, but…I get the feeling it's a little bit too coincidental. Better keep that tidbit in mind.)"
Magical Girl Universe, Love City, a place dedicated to the feeling of love. However, today…
In the middle of Love City Park, several park patrons were suddenly arguing with one another, killing any sort of romance.
"Well, Sunset did say to keep a lookout for any kind of discord among couples." Marta said.
"Then one of the couple halves should be around here somewhere." Chrysalis remarked, as she took in all the arguing. "And here I thought I could get a little meal on the way…" she sighed.
"Don't worry, Chrysalis. Once we resolve this, you can sneak in as much of a feast as you want." Merrin said as she stroked Chrysalis' mane a bit. "Does… Does this help?"
"Not really, but it is appreciated." Chrysalis said.
"You really are a natural animal lover, are you, Merrin? Maybe… Maybe you really would be a great Pokémon Trainer one day." Jude said.
"Oh shut up, Jude! I know I'm the best. I don't need you telling me." Merrin said.
"Whoa…where is this coming from?" Marta said. "Wait…" she said, shining the makeshift light. In the center of the discord was a large purple blob with eyes, lips and a bow.
Dismarelda
Eerie Tribe
"Looks like we found it." Jude said.
"No duh!" Merrin said, unaware she was also being inspirited by the Yo-kai.
"What's going on with Merrin? She has never acted like this before, has she?" Teepo said.
"I think this Yo-kai might have got her." Kokoro said.
"It was in Sunset's notes. Apparently, Dismarelda causes discord in those around her." Ochako said. "She's usually the reason a lot of relationships go south."
"That's horrible, nothing should ever stand in the way of love." Marta said.
"We need to get her to clear out of here." Chrysalis said, her twisted horn glowing. "A few magical blasts should do it."
"Wait, let's at least try to talk to her first!" Connie interjected as she approached the Yo-kai. "Excuse me, miss. You're Dismarelda, right?"
"Yes. That's me. No filter." she said.
"We'd like you to move out of this park…please?" Ochako asked.
"You are so polite in this cruel world. But….no. I won't." Dismarelda said.
"Can we at least ask why?" Ochako asked.
"I got lost and am waiting for someone." Dismarelda said.
"Waiting for who?" Ochako said.
"Hey, guys!" a voice called out as Glimmer ran over. "I was exploring the city and you would not believe what I ran into." she said pointing to a large yellow cloud-like creature with a flower on his head.
Happierre
Heartful Tribe
"Allo!" he said.
"Darling!" Dismarelda said.
"Ah, my lady love. I've been looking for you all over. Let us never split again." Happierre said as his natural happiness energy canceled out the gloom as the couples returned to normal.
"Love triumphs once again." Marta said.
"...What was I doing just now?" Merrin said in slight confusion.
"Don't worry about it." Ochako said.
"Apologies. We normally try to stay together due to our powers but we ended up getting lost in this city." Happierre said.
"I decided to stay in the park, but I kept making people fight. But when I tried to stop it, it just made things worse. No filter." Dismarelda said.
"Well, at least you tried." Connie said. "In any case, if you two need a place to go, Sunset is planning to make a place like that."
"Ah…I remember that girl. Such a bright and shining one. Count us in." Happierre said as the two handed over their medals.
"Alright, let's get these medals back and-" Glimmer started.
"Ah…actually, can we stay a few minutes?" Chrysalis asked as she gestured to all the couples, now happy once more. "It's been ages since I've had such a feast presented."
"...Okay. But don't take too long." Glimmer said.
"Or drain too much, we still want them up and about, after all." Jude said.
"I will try to restrain myself." the Changeling queen promised.
In the middle of a busy street, people walking to and from were having a hard time moving their feet.
"Yeah…take that. And that." said a large block of living mochi. "This is for all those rice cakes that got stepped on for the longest time."
Mochismo
Brave Tribe
"Yup, that's Mochismo alright." Yuzuriha said, checking the Yo-kai info. "He's a Yo-kai that tosses mochi to the ground but also gives people a boost in strength."
"Good thing we didn't bring Uraraka with us. She's a Mochi Maniac." Hagakure said.
"So, how should we bring this guy in? Just talk to him?" Kieran asked.
"We don't have time for talk. We need action." Vashyron said as he went and fired into the Yo-kai with his gun, only for the bullets just to stick to him.
"Did…you…just…try to hurt me?" Mochismo said as an angry face burst out of the mochi as his muscles bulged.
"Damn, he's jacked." Vashyron said.
"Hope you're hungry!" Mochismo said as he started hurling mochi at the group.
"Incoming!" Hagakure said as everyone dodged the incoming mochi, or otherwise countered it.
"Why did you have to shoot them, Vashyron?" Kieran asked. "Alright, not a problem. We just have to calm him down."
"How are we supposed to…" Yuzuriha said as one shot got in her mouth. "Mmm…hmm. You know…this really isn't half bad."
"Wait…what did you say?" Mochismo asked as he stopped.
"This mochi isn't half bad." Yuzuriha said.
"You really like it? That…that makes me so happy." Mochismo said as he calmed down.
"Huh…it was that easy." Kieran remarked.
"Say, are there any other people in your group who love Mochi? I'd like them to try mine." Mochismo said.
"You bet. We have a gal in our group who loves the stuff." Yuzuriha said. "We got a bit of a project going on for a Yo-kai community. If you come with us, you can make all the mochi you want for us."
"Now that sounds like a fair deal." Mochismo said, offering up his medal.
"Nice. And the others say they got the other medals we needed too." Yuzuriha said.
"That just leaves Tattletell, the Yo-kai who can make anyone she inspirits reveal whatever they're hiding, no matter how secret it is." Hagakure said.
"Wait, they can do that?" Kieran asked. "...Who volunteered to go find her again?"
"Okay, so before we start looking for Tattletell… is everyone here completely sure they have nothing to hide?" Ranma asked.
"Of course not." Aoyama said.
"Good. Cause moment she globs onto your face, your secrets are as good as gone." Lucy said.
"Wait…I think I see her!" Leia said.
They looked as they saw a small old lady with long arms leaping around.
Tattletell
Mysterious Tribe
She then globbed onto a guy and hung under his chin.
"I have a confession! This is not my real hair!" he said, taking off his toupee.
"Wow, that is certainly embarrassing." Yuri said.
"Tell tell." Tattletell said, taking notice of the group.
"She spotted us." Ranma said.
"Tell tell!" Tattletell said, leaping onto Yuri first, hanging under his chin.
"Yuri!" Balthus said.
"I'm alright, Balthus. There's nothing to hide. Especially when I tried to kill Bernadette when she was younger." Yuri said before realizing what he just said. "Okay, she is good." he said.
"Good thing Bernie-Bee wasn't here to hear you say that." Hapi said.
"Nevermind if Marky heard you." Eddy added. "You'd be sixty feet under, I'd bet."
"Hey, that's something I regretted and hesitated trying to do." Yuri said as Tattletell jumped off his face. "Guess she was done with me."
"Tell Tell!" Tattletell said as she jumped onto Eddy next.
"Ah! Get her off me! I got stuff I don't wanna spill!" Eddy said.
"Hold still, I got her!" Scorpia said as she tried to snap Tattletell up in her claws, but she jumped off Eddy before she could clamp her down. "Don't let her grab you!"
The entire group did their best to catch Tattletell as she bounced all over the group. Eventually, Tattletell found a suitable target. It was too late for anyone to stop her as she grabbed onto…
"Oh no." Aoyama said seeing her on his face.
"Oh…phew. That's a relief. You don't really have any secrets." Ranma said.
"No, you don't understand. I…" Aoyama said. "I'm…the one who helped the villains locate the USJ."
"Oh, that's- wait, WHAT?!" Flamberge asked.
"And…the location of the training camp….I was the one who told them about that too." Aoyama said.
"Why would you…?!" Leviathan asked.
"Some of you might remember when I said me and Midoriya were alike with Quirks that don't match our bodies. Well…it's more literal than you might think." Aoyama said.
"You were born Quirkless?" Leviathan asked.
"Yes. And I wanted to become a hero. So…my parents found a miracle worker. One who could take and give Quirks…" Aoyama said.
"All for One…" Ranma said.
"Your parents wanted the best possible life for you, so they were willing to do anything to make you happy. So they made a deal with the devil, and he gave you your Navel Laser." Flamberge asaid.
"But that Quirk didn't come without a price, so he asked me to be one of his spies. He has several among the civilians of my world, all working from the shadows." Aoyama said.
"Dude, that's…" Eddy trailed off, shocked. "...Why didn't you tell us? I mean, yeah, makes sense you couldn't go talking at home, but why not us?"
"You…You don't understand! If he finds out I've told you…my parents…" Aoyama said, looking scared as he started to cry.. "I thought I was finally free once he was sent to prison…but now…it feels like he's coming back on us. I'm sorry, everyone. The truth is… I am a despicable villain."
Tattletell then pried herself off of Aoyama's face, looking shocked and guilty about what she had just revealed.
"This is an absolute nightmare. No doubt this truth will spread throughout the entire Galaxy King. What will the others think of me when they find out…?" Aoyama said.
"Okay, Aoyama, listen. We're gonna unpack all this when we get back, but me, personally? I do not blame you." Eddy said. "Trust me, I know what it's like having someone bigger than you push you around. This ain't your fault. And I'll fight anybody who says otherwise."
"Even I have my own guilt of stabbing people close to me in the back that I have to live with, but I'm not letting it happen to someone like you." Yuri added.
"Besides, Aoyama. You're not the villain you think you are. If you were really on All For One's side, would you have made that clutch shot to get Tokoyami out of Mr. Compress' hands back at training camp?" Flamberge asked. "And what about that message you left Izuku? That wasn't just a sympathetic message, was it? That was your cry for help."
"In a way, yes. I knew he had a Quirk that didn't fit his body so…" Aoyama said.
Tattletell was also in tears upon hearing all of this.
"Hmm…maybe we should head on back and tell everyone after we finish summoning Shogunyan. After all, not like anyone was listening in." Flamberge said as they took off, unaware of a hidden figure with a single eye and a big old grin on his face, having listened to the whole thing.
On the Galaxy King, later…
"Okay…we've got at least eight." Sunset said. "Geist said we only need at least 8 of the required medals to get the legend. So…hope this works." she said inserting them as a bright light shined in the room.
Ladies and Gentleman
Introducing…a Legendary!
A chorus could be heard as a brilliant light shined down.
Legendary, Legendary, Legendary!
Le~gen~dary~!
Appearing in the very room was a cat dressed in samurai armor with a sword by his side.
"Shogunyan!" he declared.
Shogunyan
Legendary Yo-kai
Brave Tribe
"At last, I have returned to the material realm after so very long." Shogunyan said.
"Great to have you back, Shogunyan," Sunset said.
"Yeah, we've missed seeing you cut things in half with a single slice, so amazing." Zephyr said.
"And calling out your ridiculously long attack names." Gemini said.
"Hark. Fear not. I shall not leave you all behind this time around." Shogunyan said. "I am with you all always."
"Good…now that that's settled…there is something we need to talk about." Flamberge said.
"Aw…you about to go and expose the traitor?" a voice asked.
"Uh…who said…." Sunset said as she shined her watch on one of the empty chairs to reveal something. A humanoid yo-kai that was yellow with only one eye, a red scarf and a sword carried on his back as he leaned in the chair.
"Who the heck are you?" Ranma asked.
"Me? No one special…just someone with some dirty laundry that needs to be shared. You know…a lot of traitorous laundry to a lot of places." he said looking at Aoyama before looking to the screen. "Don't miss this next chapter boy's and girls. It's gonna be a fun one."
