A/N I'm not writing the stories in order. You'll get more chapters more often that way. This chapter is inspired by the episode the slide. I might rewrite chapter 2. I'm not really happy with it.
The Jump/The Slide oc version
Min Hee sat atop her white horse named Katana and studied the jump.
This was her first time jumping ever and she was feeling nervous.
She took a deep breath and urged Katana forward. She closed her eyes preparing to take the jump. All the hours of practicing were going to finally pay off. She had to do this. Today was her last nothing happened. Everything stayed dark. When Min Hee woke up again, she was on her back on the ground and her wrist burned like it was on fire. She was at risk of passing out again due to the pain until she heard Katana. She got up as quickly as she could, ignoring a few kids who had gathered to help her. She raced over to her injured horse who was being looked over. Min Hee didn't miss the large gash that was present on Katana's right leg.
''Let's get you to the hospital and Katana to the vet.'' The owner of the stables said as she noticed Min Hee standing nearby.
''It's not that bad.'' Min Hee insisted putting her injured wrist behind her back. In that moment she only cared about Katana.
''You were out for five minutes. There's an ambulance on the way. You're going to the hospital.'' The owner remarked in a tone that made Min Hee sigh and give in.
Meanwhile at the park Ji Yeon stood at the top of the big toy with the new taller, twisted slide.
''I can't go down. It's to high and twisty.'' Ji Yeon called down to Dil, who looked up at her with wide eyes as a line of kids began to form behind his best friend.
Dil watched in horror as girl twice Ji Yeon's size shoved her way to the front of the line and shoved Ji Yeon head first down the slide and slid after her. Ji Yeon screamed and landed hard on her back. The big girl came sliding down and landed on top of Ji Yeon.
Mi Sun rushed over as the big girl ran off.
''Are you alright?'' Mi Sun asked checking Ji Yeon over.
Ji Yeon sat up and struggled to catch her breath.
''I think you got the breath knocked out of you. You'll be ok soon.'' Mi Sun assured her daughter as she helped her to stand.
''It's time to go home.'' Didi said pulling Dil closer to her.
''We need to leave too. We have to pick up your cousin from riding lessons.'' Mi Sun said picking Ji Yeon up and pulling out her ringing phone from her back pocket and answering the call.
She barely got her greeting out before suddenly picking up her pace and hurrying to her car. She quickly buckled Ji Yeon into her car seat before quickly hopping the drivers seat and putting on her seat belt and speading away.
''I'm not gonna slide again.'' Ji Yeon declared quietly as she watched the scenery race by.
Ji Yeon was confused as they arrived at the hospital.
''Why are we here?'' Ji Yeon asked before taking a breath.''Do you have to work?''
''No. I still have the rest of the day off.'' Mi Sun answered as she unbuckled Ji Yeon and carried her into the hospital.
''Why are we here?'' Ji Yeon once more as Mi Sun walked up to the first floor nurses station to find out which room Min Hee was in.
''Min Hee fell off her horse.'' Mi Sun explained after getting the information she needed.
She quickly found Min Hee's room and stepped inside.
''It's just a sprained wrist.'' Min Hee insisted loudly wincing at the sound of her own voice.
''And a concussion.'' Miju stated handing Mi Sun a chart.
Mi Sun read over the chart before giving it back to her sister and going over and examining Min Hee.
''You'll have to take it easy for at least a week.'' Mi Sun said as she sat down in a chair after finishing her examination.
''A week, but the jumping competition is in a week and I haven't learned how to jump yet. I can't go if I can't jump. I was so close this time.'' Min Hee sighed as she tucked into herself.
''I'm sorry.'' Mi Sun said.''I know how much you were looking forward to the competition.''
''Yeah and now I'll never learn to jump because I can't practice for the rest of practicing time. Can we just go home.'' Min Hee said looking up from her knees.
The following Monday Mi Sun had to work and since it was summer Ji Yeon would be babysat by her two teenaged cousins.
''We don't have to go to the park.'' Ji Yeon insisted as she drug her feet while each of her hands was being held by her cousins.
''You can't spend all summer inside watching tv.'' Mun Hee told her.
''Yes I can.'' Ji Yeon insisted stopping in her tracks once they reached the edge of the park.
''What's wrong? I thought you liked the park.'' Mun Hee asked kneeling down to Ji Yeon's level.
''I don't want to play.'' Ji Yeon shrugged not wanting to admit that she was afraid of a slide.
''Good because I really don't feel like watching you play.'' Min Hee stated rollimg her eyes.
''What do you want to do then?'' Mun Hee asked standing up.
''We could go riding.'' Min Hee suggested.
''You're the only that's ever ridden a horse and Imo said you have to take it easy. Mun Hee reminded her.
''I just want to check on Katana.'' Min Hee pleaded.
Mun Hee turned to Ji Yeon.''Are you sure you don't want to play?''
Ji Yeon took one last look at the park. The slide stood tall and imposing, glinting in the sunlight. Ji Yeon gulped and turned to answer her cousin when she suddenly noticed Dil rushing towards her.
''Want to play?'' Dil asked.
''I can't. Min Hee wants to check on her horse, Katana.'' Ji Yeon quickly told him.
''Neat. I want to see a horsie in real life.'' Dil said.
''Go ask your mom if you can come with us.'' Mun Hee groaned knowing there was no way of getting out of a forty five minute car ride when an almost three and almost four year old want to see a horse for real life.
Dil came back a few seconds later and they walked back to the house and got in Mun Hee's car.
About halfway into the drive Ji Yeon fell asleep. Dil was disappointed that his best friend had fallen asleep, but contented himself with looking out the window to pass the time. It felt like forever before they finally arrived at the ranch.
''Ok we're here. Go check on your horse and get back here so we can leave. It stinks out here.'' Mun Hee commented.
''You get used to it. You should come with me. It might change your mind about horses.'' Min Hee told her.
''I'm more of a city girl.'' Mun Hee said.
''Please can we go see the horsie. I never saw one for real life before.'' Dil pleaded as he unbuckled his seat belt.
''Fine.'' Mun Hee relented. She retrieved Ji Yeon from the backseat and together they followed Min Hee to Katana's stable.
Dil ran ahead excitedly.''Which one is Katana?''
''She's right here.'' Mim Hee said stopping at a stall where a tall white horse stood. Min Hee opened the door stepped inside inspecting the bandage.
Dil was about to go into the stall when Mun Hee stopped him.
''She's looking good. She'll be better in no time.'' A woman with brown hair and a soft smile said walking into the stall.
''That's good to hear.'' Min Hee told the vet.
''You can take her for a ride if you want. It will do her some good.'' The kind vet said.
''I want to ride.'' Dil cried excitedly waking Ji Yeon up in the process.
''Where are we?'' Ji Yeon asked looking around.
''Dil is about to go for a ride. Want to go?'' Mun Hee asked looking down at a still sleepy Ji Yeon.
''No.'' Ji Yeon answered while rubbing her eyes.
''Do you want to feed her an apple first?'' Min Hee asked holding an apple out to Dil.
''Yes.'' Dil amswered excitedly as Min Hee handed him an apple. This was turning out better then Dil had imagined. This was not an ordinary day for him and he was happy about the nice change. He giggled as Katana ate the apple from his hand.
Min Hee saddled Katana and put Dil on her back. Min Hee walked Katana outside with Mun Hee following.
''You sure you don't want to ride?'' Mun Hee asked once more as Min Hee lead Katana to the riding erea.
''I want to watch Dil first.'' Ji Yeon told her.
Min Hee got on Katana behind Dil. They started out slow and worked their way up in speed, but not to fast since this was Dil's first time on a horse.
Min Hee suddenly stopped when she came upon a huge mud puddle. She didn't want Katana to get her wound dirty and the only way around the puddle was to jump it. The very thought of trying to jump again made Min Hee nervous.
She quickly dismounted Katana and began leading her back to the stables.
''That's it?'' Dil asked with a frown.
Min Hee saw the disappointed look on Dil's face and sighed. She was tired of disappointing people.
''You can ride a little longer.'' Min Hee offered leading Katana back to where they had just come from.
''What happened back there?'' Mun Hee asked once they were back in the car heading home.
''Nothing just didn't feel like riding.'' Min Hee answered with a shrug.
''Didnt look like it to me. You were fine until you came to that mud puddle.'' Mun Hee commented giving her cousin a look.
Min Hee sighed before answering.''I think I'm scared to Jump. I mean I know it sounds stupid. It was a dumb mud puddle and I couldn't even jump over it. I think I'm afraid of me or Katana getting hurt worse then we did last time.'' Min Hee confessed.
''That's a valid reason for being scared. Maybe talk to imo about it. She used to be scared of dogs and now isn't.'' Mun Hee suggested.
In the back seat Ji Yeon was listening intently to the conversation completely ignoring Dil as he talked on and on about riding a horse for the first time.
''I think I want to go down the slide.'' Ji Yeon commented quietly.
''What?'' Dil said mid sentance.
''I want to face my fears and go down the slide. My mommy isn't scared of dogs no more and Min Hee wants to face her fear of jumping on a horse. I figure a slide is nothing to be scared of. Dogs and horses are scarier then a dumb slide.'' Ji Yeon told him.
Later that night Min Hee sat outside under the tree in the backyard. She didn't want to be afraid anymore but wasn't sure how to tell her aunt without sounding like a baby.
''Is everything alright?'' Mi Sun asked sitting down next to her niece.''You hardley touched your dinner.''
''I'm not that hungry.'' Min Hee told her.
''Is there anything you want to talk about?'' Mi Sun asked. She could sense that there was something Min Hee wasn't telling her.
Min Hee was about to speak when Cleo suddenly came bounding towards them.
MI Sun was pushed against the tree as Cleo jumped on her covering her face wort slobbery dog kisses.
''I'm sorry I didn't say hello to you when I got home, but you can't lick my mouth.'' Mi Sun said gently pushing Cleo down.
''Why not?'' Ji Yeon asked as she sat down beside her mom and blew in Cleo's face making the dog lick her on the lips.
''See just do that.'' Ji Yeon said matter of factly.
''That's discgusting.'' Mi Sun said with a grimace.''Go ask oppa to help you wash your face and brush your teeth. I'll be in a minute to tuck you in.''
''Ok.'' Ji Yeon sighed as she got up and went back inside the house.
''Now is there anything you want to talk about?'' Mi Sun asked as Cleo settled in her lap.
Min Hee sighed before answering. ''I think I'm afraid to jump.''
''How do you know you're afraid?'' Mi Sun asked.
It didn't take Mi Sun long to figure it out when Min Hee ducked her head down in shame.
''You tried to jump today didn't you?'' Mi Sun asked lifting Min Hee's chin so she could look at her.
''I just wanted to check on Katana, but then Ji Yeon's weird friend wanted to come so we went and rode, but it was literly like not even five minutes and we came to a mud puddle and I didn't want Katana to get her injury dirty and there was no way around it so I took the kid back but he wanted to ride more so I walked Katana. Don't get mad at Mun Hee. I made her take us.'' Min Hee explained and began to cry.''I'm sorry I don't want to keep disappointing people, but I just keep doing it.''
MI Sun pulled Min Hee into a hug.
''Nobody is in trouble. Thank you for telling the truth.'' Mi Sun said.
''How did you get over your fear of dogs?'' Min Hee asked wiping aw ay her tears, but still staying close to her aunt.
''I started small. Cleo wasn't always this big.'' Mi Sun said petting Cleo's head.
''What made you want to get over it?'' Min Hee asked.
''Min Jun kept asking for a dog and the more I thought about it the more stupid it seemed to be afraid of something when I can't even remember what made me scared in the first place.'' Mi Sun explained.
''So I should start with the mud puddle?'' Min Hee asked figuring that that was the smallest jump that she could come up with.
Mi Sun nodded as they stood up and went back inside.
Min Hee went up to her room and got ready for bed. She was about to turn off the light when there was a soft knock on the door.
''I just wanted to say good night.'' Mi Sun said stepping into the room.
''So when can I start practing again?'' Min Hee asked.
''Have you had any headaches or dizziness?'' Mi Sun asked sitting on the bed.
Min Hee shook her head no in response.
''You're not afraid anymore?'' Mi Sun asked.
Once again Min Hee shook her head no.''Life is to short to be afraid. Besides I love riding and I don't want to give that up. If I have to learn to jump then I'll do it, and if I have to wait past competition time I will. There will be others.''
''Go ahead and practice if you really feel ok to.'' Mi Sun said standing up.''Good night.''
The next day Mi Sun got up a little earlier then she needed to. She went upstairs and woke Min Hee up.
''What time is it?'' Min Hee mumbled sleepily rubbing her eyes and she sat up.
''It's early, but the competition is on Friday and it's Tuesday.'' Mi Sun said.
This made Min Hee jump out of bed and get dressed in record time. She met Mi Sun downstairs in the kitchen where they made a quick breakfast of smoothies and coffee for Mi Sun and made their way to the ranch.
''Be careful. Call me if you feel dizzy or sick.'' Mi Sun said when Min Hee got out of the car.
''I will. Thanks imo.'' Min Hee said with a smile.
Later on in the day Ji Yeon was once again taken to the park.
''I'm gonna go down that slide today.'' Ji Yeon declared stepping out of the safety of the sandbox and standing in the shadow of the slide.
''Are you sure?'' Dil asked as he followed Ji Yeon.
''I don't want to be afraid of a dumb slide all my life and my mommy faced her fears so I will too.'' Ji Yeon said as she climbed the stairs to the slide.
She took a deep breath when she got to the top. There were no kids waiting this time. She took a step closer to the slide and then another. Before she knew it she was at the edge. She took another breath and sat down and slid down.
''That was really fun.'' Ji Yeon cried as she met Dil at the bottom.
''I knew you would like it once you did it.'' Dil said.
Meanwhile at the ranch Min Hee had been practicing all morning. Unfortunately the summer sun was beating down and had dried out all the mud puddles. Min Hee had to improvise with rocks or sticks.
She lead Katana to her stall to rest and cool off while she went inside the house to do the same.
Min Hee was on her way to get Katana to do some bigger jumps when a boy with brown hair rushed past her with his brown and white spotted horse in tow.''There's a fire and it's heading right for us.''
Min Hee rushed to get Katana while the other teens at the ranch did the same with their horses.
The fire spread faster then anyone could've predicted and soon the stable was on fire.
Smoke engulfed the building making it hard to see. Min Hee was able to free Katana from her stall but not before being trapped by a fallen beam that was on fire.
Min Hee needed to get out fast. She climbed on Katana's back and held on to her main since she didn't have time to put her saddle on.
''We gotta get out of here.'' Min Hee coughed. She held on tight and leaned against Katana as she leaped over the fallen beam not even touching the flames.
Everyone cheered as Katana and a few other horses came bursting out of the burning building.
''We did it girl.'' Min Hee told Katana patting her neck.
''I let you ride for one day and you end up in the hospital.'' Mi Sun almost shrieked.
''It wasn't my fault there was a fire. I just inhaled some smoke.'' Min Hee said sitting up.''I can home whenever you're ready. And guess what? I jumped like a big jump.''
''That's great. Im just glad you're ok.'' Mi Sun said.
Friday arrived and everyone gathered at an arena for the competition. Min Hee sat on Katana feeling confident. She didn't care about winning. She just wanted to land a jump, which she did perfectly twice. Overall she came in third.
''Aw you didn't win.'' Dil complained as Min Hee joined her family. Dil wanted to go so he could watch the competition and maybe get to ride Katana again.
''Can I ride her please?'' Dil asked as Didi lifted him up so he could pet Katana.
Didi looked to Min Hee, who nodded and took Dil and lifted him onto Katana's back. She soon joined him and they rode around the arena a few times.
The End
