Awaken the Lightning
Spyro and Adir once again awoke in the familiar realm within their minds. It was more than obvious by now that this could be the last awakening of their powers. After three times each one not only receiving an awakening of each of their elemental abilities but they gained new knowledge for their quest.
Once both got to their feet Adir looked at the purple dragon. "Here we are again." Sighed Adir seeing all the familiar objects flying and floating about in illumined light in the evening sky all around. Parts of a temple was seen across a few floating platforms all too simple for, Adir to hop across and for, Spyro to fly over them towards the pool where they stood the last three times to regain their elements, but they stood in place as, Spyro was deeply concerned.
"Adir this is getting worse. We need answers and have to get them now! I want to know what has happened with, Cynder!" Exclaimed the Dragon.
Adir nodded in agreement. "Yes. I still hate myself for losing her in the first place. If I only held on and looked out for that Dreadwing that was coming at me!" He stomped his foot in frustration. It was no mere chance they took, Cynder. The Apes had plans for her it seemed. And that could not be good at all.
Spyro walked over to him and gently nuzzled into Adir's side. "We'll find her and get her back. The Chronicler has to know what has happened."
"Yeah. Let's get down there!" Adir pointed to the place where they had to go and made haste towards it with a quick flight and few hops across the platforms until they were on the ground. Spyro and Adir then looked around expecting to hear the Chroniclers voice, but it was silent with only a light breeze being heard.
But around them everything started to get dark. The Light was fading, and darkness was starting to overwhelm the surroundings. It was hard to see past the broken structures now. Only the pool nearly glowing yellow kept the darkness at bay, but it deeply concerned the two that now went back-to-back thinking something dreadful was about to happen.
However, nothing was coming their way, but the silence became eerie. "Why has it gone dark so suddenly?" Gasped Adir keeping his fists up. He expected trouble yet other than facing the sentries that were sent upon them for practice nothing else came but with the sky growing darker by the second he was starting to feel rather scared.
Spyro stood his ground but looked around but still there was nothing but darkness and the quiet. "Hello? I want to know what has happened to, Cynder!" Demanded the Dragon impatiently. But then the pool glowed brighter then a series of flashes of yellow lightning surged all around dissipating the darkness.
"Wow! That cleared up fast!" Marveled the human his fear quickly leaving as fast as the darkness did while, Spyro started to walk around until the voice of the one they were calling on finally addressed them.
"A Flash of lighting is born out of the sky and its tempers, young ones." The Chroniclers voice called out to them from the shadows once more. "You both must learn to control your emotions if you are tame the free spirit of electricity."
The Pool glowed brighter and the two around it knew what they had to do nodding to the other climbing on top of it and stood in the middle shutting their eyes.
"Surrender to its erratic nature. Allow its energy to charge through your bodies and anticipate its movement…then unleash it willingly." The Chronicler finished.
Spyro and Adir steadied themselves and drew deep from within. They could feel their emotions rage and cackle and felt a surge of power seep through them. Their Bodies felt as of lightning and with one charge up of themselves they unleashed together a shockwave that send out a multitude of electrical streaks that covered the entire area with sparks of surging electricity.
"This Power is accentuated by your impulsive natures. Trust your instincts, young ones." The Chronicler explained as the two stepped out of the pool and shot out streaks of yellow electricity to test out their reawakened power.
Adir only laughed, which caught Spyro's attention. "What's funny?"
"Oh, just ironic." Replied Adir looking over his hands the tiny strands of electricity dissipating off of them.
"How is that so?" Inquired the Dragon.
"My brother, Rai. When this all started we got our fire element back. Rai the first among my family to awaken his power that we did not even know they could wield, and it was electricity. Now it's the final element we get back." Chuckled Adir, though thinking of his brother he looked up and saw nothing but darkness but one shot of lighting streak of electricity from his hands brightened up the surroundings again. He missed his family greatly already and they only left just hours ago.
Spyro grinned as Adir was right. Fitting that one of Adir's family got their element which as now turns out was the last element they received while, Rai got it first. Again, he saw the despair forming on his friends face. Leaving his family once again was so hard for him. A Time he once believed they were dead then they were found and rescued. They became a family to him as well like the dragonflies that took him in all those years ago. Their family now was tied not in blood or race but by the bond they formed through their journey together.
"We'll get through this, Adir. We will get back to them all when this is over." Assured Spyro.
"I hope so. Despite all we been through already. I just can't lose them again. I can't live with that twice." Sniveled the Human. The Thought of losing even one of his family would destroy him. They survived a tremendous deal and faced death at every turn now. It could have ended up badly for any of them. Was this truly what it was like for his father? When he was still alive fighting the enemies of his country relying on those that became family to him but at times losing them in the war and appearing at every funeral for those he lost. He remembered how much his father was in despair and silent sorrow.
Despite the best attempts by the family to comfort him the loss was heavy on his heart and heading back out to serve another tour it eventually resulted in his own demise. A Death that still to this day haunted him. Now it could be any one of his family now.
Spyro nodded understandably nuzzling into Adir again. His family was part of him now too. They had to be protected at all cost, but he witnessed first hand how capable they are. Strong and compassionate. Cunning and resilient. Each one he saw were warriors worthy of their titles and the elements they received and used to fight against those of darkness showed that, Adir's family were worthy of them and were beings of good just like the second son of the family he was proud to call a brother to him along with, Sparx.
"Come on. Let's get to the temple on the other side. The Chronicler may give us some answers there." Spyro pointed out through the broken entrance ahead of him seeing a temple drenched in moonlight across many platforms with armored sentries on them. No doubt for them to get some practice in using their last awakened element.
Agreeing with the dragon Adir followed him through the entrance with each platform they used different type of attack out of use of their electrical powers. From streaks of Lightning to spinning electrical waves and homing attacks out of charged up balls of electricity and a few others along with one final attack with a powerful surge of energy that cleared entire platform of over a couple dozen of the sentries sent against them. Now they were ready to get the answers they sought when they made it up to the floating temple.
Standing in front of the temple Adir was the first to run inside but there was nothing but a pool in the middle. This time the water was clear, but it was agitated. Spyro followed inside but there was no one around. Again, nothing but silence filled their ears.
"Hello? Chronicler! We did the tests!" Called out Adir but it was met with no response. The young human gritted his teeth. This was maddening. They needed answers and they needed them now. It did not matter that now they finally had all their elemental powers back. The Situation was very dire with no cause for even a quick celebration.
Spyro looked around too but there was nothing inside and the silence remained. "What do we do next? Where can we find you? Hello? Are you there?" He called out but was met with no response at all.
"Great!" Grunted Spyro. "The voice in both our heads is ignoring us!"
"Yeah. I really do hope this is not for nothing! We came too far now just to be led on. I hope whenever we do meet him in person he will give us some answers finally. We have to eventually get back to make sure, Cyril and my family is okay." Said Adir but then his eyes looked to the pool. The Water in it was agitated and splashing slightly with nothing inside it but it seemed to be calling to him and the dragon who noticed the pool started to glow light blue.
"Adir come to the pool. I think its going to show us something." Said the Dragon coming over to it and looked over the side. Adir joined him and looked down over it to see something was coming into view.
"Yeah. A Peek sounds good. Maybe it may show something that can give us some clarification for once." Replied Adir but when the pools water formed into a clear view of what it began to show both, Spyro and Adir's eyes shot wide, and their worries grew vastly in an instant at what they were seeing.
Inside a massive chamber that was light by green torches and braziers across the walls with beam of violet colored energy was coming down the middle of the chamber were large apes gathering around. They were a menacing sight. Snarling and jabbering about and sitting in the middle of them upon a great throne was, Gaul the Ape King. He sat upon his chair grumbling as who was being brought before him was one that was once the prized champion of all the apes. Who ensured their victory across the islands and scattered the Dragons until her defeat by the hands of the Purple Dragon and the boy from another realm. Very disappointing.
Now she is being brought to him young and feeble. When she once stood above him as an equal but until his direct command. He gave her all she needed to complete their masters plan. She may have succeeded in unlocking is prison but her defeat by two insignificant youths was intolerable. She should have finished them off when their guard was down when she was with them but instead she ran like a coward. A Traitor to their cause.
"So…the Traitor has returned." Growled the Ape King as the black dragon was brought to him by a chain around her neck. Forced to come forth though she tried to resist but her strength was waned and when she was carried all the way to the mountain she was immediately placed in bonds until it was time for her to face her former overlord to face the consequences of her actions.
Once she was facing him just across an open gap she looked up at him with a glare. "You can't go through with this, Gaul!" She spat trying to get herself free from the grip of the large ape that held her chain, but she was too weak, and he kept a firm grip on her and tugged sharply on the collar making her jolt in agony.
Gaul only laughed at Cynder's attempts to plea. "Nothing can prevent this. We are merely here to welcome our master back into this realm and join him at his side. But fear not, Cynder. You have been a faithful servant. I am sure he will take you back."
Cynder growled at that. She did not desire to be the Dark Masters puppet again. Trying to pull herself free but it was no use.
"And if not then you will have the honor of being the first to perish by his hand." Gaul stood up and reached out his arms to address all the apes present. "Long have we waited. Long have we suffered. But soon our master will return and his coming shall bring forth a new age of power for the apes and we shall have our revenge!" All the Apes cheered and bellowed at their Kings proclamation while, Cynder stood ready for a fight trying to show some courage but in her eyes she knew that doom was approaching and if she remained in chains this whole time then her death is inevitable. She wanted to find her destiny somewhere else, but she could not allow her life to end so soon. Maybe there was a way to get out of the chains without having to fight?
"We're nearly there!" Called Zima at the helm of the ship. When Sparx had explained to her more on what had happened with, Spyro and Adir passing out which involved listening to more clues to the Chronicler and gaining back more of their elemental powers her worries left her but the concern remained but she had to return to the wheel and keep the ship steady when the winds picked up and nearly blew them off course.
"Got it." Replied Sparx calling up to her as he remained by his friends and brothers side. They were okay only twitching in their slumber if that is what they were doing sleeping? But given to everything that had happened he would not consider it sleep as it only meant more ill news when they woke and the sight of a leviathan coming up beneath the surface of the sea was a grand sight, but it only was a temporary respite but then he saw those beneath him were starting to stir.
"Hey! I think they are coming around finally!" Shouted the Dragonfly as he folded his arms watching, Spyro and Adir wake up shaking and stretching but their faces showed a grim look.
"What's the bad news now? Let's get it over with, please!" Grunted Sparx knowing this was coming while, Zima maintained their heading, but she smiled at the two glad to see that the dragonfly was not lying about what he said.
"What happened? Anything you wish to say? We're almost upon the island." The Snow Leopard inquired as the island was coming closer by the second. The winds shifted from behind and gave the ship more speed with the sail.
"Its worse than ever!" Cried Adir recalling that horrible sight in the pool.
"Yes. Cynder was indefinitely taken by Gaul. They mean to turn her back into a monster or kill her if the Dark Master returns." Spyro explained his face full of worry. Cynder looked completely helpless and scared. She should have never left the temple. If only they managed to convince her to stay instead of running away she never would have ended up the Skavenger ship and then recaptured by those who used her before.
"Oh, Goodie! Told you all didn't I? I said she was no good to begin with at all!" Grumbled Sparx hating the fact that he had to have been right all along.
Adir shook his head disapprovingly at the dragonfly. Sparx was far too stubborn. Seemed he would never be convinced that, Cynder never was a monster only a pawn who now was at the greatest risk of becoming one again. It took him and Spyro everything they had when they faced her before. If she becomes the monster they knew again it would be a question if they could truly fight her knowing she is an innocent and combined with the Ape King and the rest of their forces would they even stand a chance then?
Spyro too showed how upset he was over his brothers arrogance. The Dragonfly was strong willed in his beliefs it would take a great deal to earn his faith especially after all that, Cynder did but he refused to believe that she did not do any of monstrous deeds against her will. If they could find a way to save her maybe, Sparx will finally change his opinion of her. But first they needed to find exactly where she was.
"Glad to see your both okay. Look ahead we are nearly to shore!" Zima pointed out keeping the helm steady in its course and slowly pushed it downwards to descend.
Spyro and Adir looked ahead and saw that the island they saw in their past visions was nearly upon them. It looked quite mysterious as it was enchanting. It was covered in mountains, yet the island was quite small. It seemed there was nothing to see other than a many light blue colored crystals were all over it making an illuminated glow that shined through the evening.
"I don't see a way inside. I could try taking us up?" Suggested Zima as the islands mountains were covering any potential spot to land in it but as they drew closer, Spyro looked over to see there was a cave ahead which he could make out was small, but the sight of a temple could be seen within it.
"There Zima! Take us down to that shore! The Temple is inside! We will dock there and head inside to find the Chronicler." Yelled Spyro from the bow of the ship and, Adir joined him at his side.
Sparx flew back to Zima as she did what she was told by the purple dragon. She was very anxious about the island itself. With how great importance it was to her new friends she had to help get them there, but she could not help herself but feel disturbed by the look of it. The Island seemed to be uninhabited given how the sands were on the tiny shore looked undisturbed for a great number of years. The Cave in sight as they came down onto the water and moved closer to shore she could make out the temple, but it did not appear to be in the best of shape. Either it was abandoned or something sinister could be at play. But she did what she was asked, and they would be landing on the beach within minutes.
The Dragonfly looked at Zima sharing her anxiety too. They came this far and faced many dangers yet, Sparx was never used to it at all. He followed the two that took him on the journey from the swamp all the way to here. He did not truly regret leaving home but he wished the danger would pass but with, Spyro and Adir looking at the temple within the cave with such determination it seemed danger was not too far behind yet again.
The Ship slowed until it finally breached upon the ship and the snow leopard left the helm. "We're here." She said coming up to her friends at the bow of the ship.
"Great job at piloting the ship, Zima." Complemented Adir. He admired the girl. She had a lot in her and given her history he cannot say he was surprised. Seemed piloting a vessel was simple for her as it was for many other traits she had that she got through many trials in the past.
Zima smiled and let out a purr brushing against the young human. "Why, thank you." She winked at him. Adir looked away trying to hide a blush but, Spyro flew down off the ship and onto the beach looking at the temple that appeared to be undisturbed for a great many years. Perhaps more but this was the correct island that much was clear.
"Come on! We have to find the Chronicler." He called up to his friends and, Zima threw down a ladder and, Adir climbed down along with, Zima with, Sparx following them.
Once they were with Spyro the dragon looked at the girl concerningly. "Maybe its best you remain on the ship, Zima? You don't have to come with us."
This surprised the snow leopard, but she shook her head. "No. I vowed to look after you all. I cannot let you go into that place by yourselves." She had her bow with her and her quiver along with her daggers in their sheaves at her waist. Even if the island appeared uninhabited and maybe not as dangerous as it appeared she had to uphold her word.
"Just be careful we don't know what's inside. And the Chronicler was calling on, Adir and myself. Be cautious." Warned the purple dragon before turning around and walked towards the temple entrance. Adir followed gesturing Zima to come along and, Sparx reluctantly came as well.
"Hearing voices in their heads. Having led us all over the place. Which has been great because we've been having so much fun." Sparx grumbled sarcastically. "And now we are stranded on an enchanted island, and I just can't wait to see what happens next." The Others just shook their heads and rolled their eyes. Should anyone had to remain with the ship it should have been Sparx, but he would not have done it for he just could not be anywhere with, Spyro or Adir as the temple doors suddenly opened up for them.
Be it they were expected or simply because they came so close the door opened up the group headed inside hoping to find the one that lived on the island and seek the answers they sought before it could be too late.
