The Broken Road

Chapter 9

authors note : I'm having so much fun exploring both brooke and lucas's pov and of course my baby girl jo. Stay tuned.

The world is brighter than the sun now that you're here.

I'll give you everything I have

I'll teach you everything I know.

I'll do better.

"This is all going to be fine. She'll show up and I can stop freaking out. Right?" Lucas asked.

Looking at his video chat screen.

"Yes I think you're first instinct is to go in there and get Jo but you shouldn't. This has to play out."

"This is so important to her. I know the two of you have alot to work through and putting that aside so Jo can have a relationship with her mom. That means everything to her. So relax."

"Nathan and I planned a friend group hang out at beach house. It'll be just like old times. Late nights. Movies. Fun." Haley explained.

"I'll think about it." Lucas replied.

"Are we going to talk about it?" "You not really making finding someone a priority." Haley said.

"According to my therapist. I'm emotionally distant and have a pattern of self sabotaging romantic relationships." Lucas explained.

"Well i'm not going to disagree." Haley replied.

...

Brooke took a deep breath. And entered the diner.

She looked around looking for Josephine. A smile coming to her face. Once she spotted her.

Brooke made her way over to the table. Smiling nervously as she sat down across from the girl.

"I read you're letters. Thank you for writing them."

"I'm sure that was hard for you." Josephine said.

"It was. I wanted to be honest with you. I wanted you to know i thought about you even though we were apart." Brooke replied.

A waitress brought over menus.

"I'll get what you order. You know the menu better then i do." Brooke said.

"Josephine smiled as she gazed at the menu then handed over both menus.

"Two orders of Sinkers and suds. One order of Eve with a lid on it." Josephine announced.

"You got it. It should be out shortly." She replied. As she went back to the kitchen.

"I want to know all about you Josephine." Brooke said.

"I want to know about you too Brooke." Josephine replied.

And the two sat there once they orders of coffee. Donuts. And pie had arrived. Talking.

Josephine talked about her love of basketball. How her dad taught her how to play at only 4. That she liked expressing herself through clothes and loved books. She liked to keep moving. And loved being able to do that and more with cheerleading. Which her dad enrolled her into once she was old enough.

Brooke shared about her travels. Growing up with victoria and Ted. The reason her fashion line started at all.

They shared a love of keepsakes and dancing. Clothes.

Josephine had her dimples.

Brooke saw first hand now Josephine was loved cared for well. Adjusted.

She saw herself and parts of Lucas.

She smiled as they took a picture together.

Josephine thanked her coming. And hugged her goodbye.

Brooke felt wrong and guilty for showing up here and disrupting this girl's life.

Josephine had asked about having siblings and Brooke clarified she was her only child.

The only guy she had ever truly loved was here.

Any attempts at romance fell flat.

Brooke left the diner feeling confused and conflicted. But only grateful knowing Lucas had been the father she knew he was capable of. And their daughter was better off for it.
