The Broken Road

Chapter 10

Authors note : Thank you readers. Review

"I will get my rough draft to you as soon as possible." Lucas said. Smiling as he saw Josephine entered the car. On the passenger side.

"How did it go?" Lucas asked.

"I was nervous for no reason. I think she liked me." Josephine replied.

"She loved you i'm sure of it. All right Jelly bean."

"Let's get you home. Have you started you're summer reading yet?" Lucas asked. As he started to drive.

"No I have all summer for that. Plus reading isn't as fun when you have to write about it." Josephine replied.

...

Lucas wanted to hear all about it. But he didn't want to push. He was alot more relieved then he thought he would.

"I have a rough draft to start. Will you be able to find something to do until dinner?" Lucas asked. Once they got home.

"I'll find something. Did you know Brooke started Clothes over bros because of a broken heart?" Josephine asked.

"Yeah I've heard." Lucas replied.

"Did she tell you about this guy?" Lucas asked.

"No. She just said he belived in her. That she could change the world someday. She called him her first love." Josephine replied. As she went upstairs.

Lucas sighed deeply. He went into the living room. Grabbed his laptop and opened a fresh document.

He had a deadline to keep. As he started to type a working title for his rough draft. How Many Things

It was a passing glance. As she locked on him in the backseat.

In his backseat was a newborn baby his passenger seat taken up by his broken heart.

Her eyes had tears in them. He was so confused and angry. Yet he wanted to wipe them away. It was one summer. That changed both their lives.

He couldn't watch her leave and didn't.

Lucas saved what he had written then put his laptop away.

...

How I Spent My Summer

Josephine placed the picture of her and Brooke. On the display board. Amongst the other pictures she had already put up.

"Tell me everything." Jane said.

Josephine wasn't surprised to see Jane there it was very expected to see one or the other just appearing at each other's houses.

They had been best friends all their lives. Along with the other kids in their small friend group.

"She's warm and smart and her parents are like matilda's from the movie. They never really cared or made an effort to raise her at all."

"Is it weird that I want to meet them?" Josephine asked.

"I wouldn't. They don't sound warm and fuzzy. Plus she isn't close to them. I don't think they are worth getting to know." Jane replied.

"So what are you're weekend plans plans like?" Josephine asked.

"Jenny's home." Jane replied.

"I guess i'm more happy about that then you are." Josephine replied.

"Its just she's going to be home for the summer and I would rather hang out here. Hearing about how talented smart and amazing Jenny is. Get's to be alot. After a week." Jane admits.

"I hear you i don't have any siblings. I wouldn't mind a sister or brother one day. You're welcome to hang out here whenever."

"My dad won't mind." Josephine replied.

"Tommorow we're going to the mall. Right after breakfast."

"Its my favorite place. The clothes. The fun. The food. The air conditioning." Josephine added in.

...

"It went better then i ever imagined. She's a dream come true." Brooke said.

"I knew it would work out." Peyton said.

"You need to listen to us more about this stuff." Haley replied.

As they were seated around the Naley living room.

"That's the thing. I don't know how to be a mother."

"I walked away. Why should i get another chance to be her life and possibly ruin this life she has going on?"

"I got to see her. Spend time together. Maybe that's all i get."

"Maybe she's better off without me." Brooke confessed.

...

Days Later

"We should discuss Brooke and her being back in town." The older man said. Sitting across from Lucas.

In his office of light and dark wood tones and bookshelves.

With comfortable seating.

Lucas looked to his therapist. "Besides our daughter there is no other common link between us." He replied.

The older man looked to his patient.

"Are you trying to convince me or yourself?" He questioned.

"I don't give chances to people who screw me over." Lucas replied.

"Anger. Avoidance. So you have no lingering feeling for Brooke?" He asked.

"Long over it. Her. That relationship. She ruined my life." Lucas replied.

"I repeat. Who are you trying to convince here?" He questioned.

...

Lucas went home after his session. He found a note on his bedroom door.

Went to the movies. Will be back by right after - Jo.

Lucas took the note and put it on his end table.

He went into the bottom of his closet.

He picked it up. He opened the box.

To Lucas Scott

From Brooke Davis

Various envelopes. He put the box back in his closet.

"Why can't you let her go already?" Lucas said to no one.

His cellphone ringing brought him out of his thoughts.

When he saw it was Brooke he almost declined the call. But he picked it up and listened. She asked him to come and meet her. She was on the front porch.

Lucas agreed. As the call ended and he left his bedroom.

Making his way outside to see her there was a weird feeling.

"I came back for our daughter. But also for you."

"You were the one Lucas. I just needed you to know."

"What we had wasn't a fling. Some summer adventure i wanted to conquer with the boy from other side of town."

"I loved you." Brooke said. As she scanned his face.

"I'll leave you alone now." Brooke replied.

He took her hand in his. The two locked on each other.

"I loved you too." Lucas replied.

He pulled her towards him. His body pressed against hers.

He cupped her face. Leaned over and kissed her.

Brooke kissed him back. At some point they pulled apart.

She had to pull her gaze away. And went back down the stairs.

I'm leaving cause i have to go. I can only wait so long.

Is it true you love me yes or no?
