Fuchsbau aren't fighters. In their Wesen form they're only a little stronger than a human, but they do have a far superior sense of smell and as Cordelia had warned Jesse, a better than human bite force. Fuchsbau rarely got into fights with other Wesen or a normal human for that matter, at least not physical fights. But when they did, they usually didn't stop until they'd taken a chunk out of their opponent. Cordelia leaped for the Wesen who'd dared to actually put that smelly rag over her mouth, woging as she did and knocking him down and biting down on his ear. She could taste the blood and growled.
Jesse, Johnathan, Lance and Andrew, a Mauzhertz, mouse Wesen, were working together. Bauershwein, Eisbeibers and Mauzhertz were not Wesen that were really able to fight, but they do tend to be very intelligent. The three worked out a method of attack that included throwing stones simultaneously at one Wesenrein member and Jesse would follow up by darting in with his own sword and striking out at the Wesenrein member.
The Wesen teenagers that had accompanied Xander and Jesse woged in to among others, a Klaustreich, an alley cat type of Wesen, very strong and capable of leaping huge distances. A Jagerbar, a bear, ferociously strong and large. A Lowen, lion type of Wesen, incredibly strong and much faster than a human, their ancestors had been forced to fight in the gladiatorial arena in ancient Rome. And a Malin Fatal, a boar like Wesen with two knife sharp tusks that protruded from his lower jaw. Malin Fatal will use them to slit the throat of an opponent in a fight.
And Xander? It is said that Grimms are a people that can see into the heart of darkness. When a Wesen looks into a Grimm's eyes they see their true form reflected back at them and a feeling of infinite darkness. Cordelia maintained that what she saw in Xander's eyes didn't reflect either of her faces and perhaps reflected what he felt when he looked at her. It was an image she actually liked.
When those Wesenrein members looked into Xander's eyes they saw black pools of cold fury. They saw their deaths and he delivered it with brutal efficiency.
"Why are you attacking us?!" One of the Wesenrein members demanded of one of the teenage Wesen. "We're just like you!"
"You're nothing like us. We've chosen not to prey on others, human or Wesen. You choose to prey on our own kind." The Wesen answered. "You should never have come here!"
They may have been teenagers going up against adults of their own kind, but they were angry teenagers protecting one of their own from killers. The Wesenrein members never stood a chance. In the end Xander and his allies were the only ones still standing, even if some were barely still standing because of injuries. And than the bodies of the Wesenrein just disappeared.
"What happened?" The Klaustreich, Percy West, Captain of the Basketball team, asked.
"Buffy and Giles must have figured out what was causing everyone's nightmares to come to life." Xander speculated. "And judging by the fact that we're still hurt and bleeding, it was physically real while it was happening. Whether those Wesen were actual members of the Wesenrein or just lifelike constructs whatever caused this to happen created, we might never know. Let's head back to town and get cleaned up. Thanks guys, that's the second time you've me helped out."
"The real Wesenrein could choose to come after any one of us." Larry, the Lowen, quarterback for the Sunnydale Razorbacks, pointed out. "All they need is what they think is a valid excuse. If they did, you'd stop them. Even before you became a Grimm or knew anything about any of this, you were never someone who stood by and let others hurt people. Even if it meant standing up to people bigger and stronger than you, like me."
Xander ducked his head, he never felt like he'd done anything that really deserved praise. He just did what he felt was the right thing to do. But Larry was right, he wouldn't let the Wesenrein hurt any of them. He walked over to Cordelia, who had blood on her clothes from where they'd splashed her and her face from where she'd bitten the ear off the Wesenrein she'd attacked. He didn't see any of it, he just pulled her into his arms and finally began to let go of the fear that he'd lost her. She clung back just as tightly.
"Your car is parked at the edge of Miller Woods." He told her. "You can drop me at my place before going home to get cleaned up. Meet in the library?"
"Yes, I want to know what caused this. And I smell bad, they threw blood on me, Xander! And put a gag in my mouth and one of them slapped me! Who the Hell do they think they are? Don't they have any idea who I am? I'm Cordelia Chase, I don't answer to anyone! If I wanted to date a purple unicorn it would be my business and no one else's!"
"Then I'm doubly glad you chose me. You have no idea how happy I am to be chosen over a purple unicorn." Xander said dryly, grinning his lopsided grin at her.
"Ooh! You know what I mean!"
"Yeah, I do." Xander said soberly. "You're the one thing in an insane world that makes sense to me. I love the way you think, your need for as much honesty as you can get in a life lived in secret. I love your strength and fierceness. I just plain love you, Cordelia Chase."
"Well of course you do. You're not an idiot." She flashed her brilliant full watt smile at him and the two of them led the way back to the cars.
"Sunnydale High School's odd couple." Percy commented. "And yet they fit." He glanced at the others around him and got no arguments from any of them.
