Hello! I know it has literally been years since I've updated this. There were some personal real life issues that kept me away. I am currently in a place where I was able to re-read and become acquainted with this story again. I've started writing updates and have a few chapters completed, but there were some things I wanted to modify in some of them. I know this one is a little what the heck and unexpected, but I was already going extreme, why not all the way, right?

"What do you want Dennis?" Riley asked, annoyed. She wasn't pleased being called out in the middle of the night. Especially by someone that she left far in her past.
"Matthews, we need you." Her former boss said bluntly.
"It's Riley, and I am done with you. I am done with the DHS."
"Even if has to do with the people who hurt Hailey?" Dennis asked with his eyes pinned on her. Riley's eyes snapped to his in shock.
"W….What does anything have to do with Hailey?" Riley asked shaking. Her heart pounded hard against her chest, and she had felt herself becoming lightheaded.
"Hailey didn't kill herself Riley, it was staged."
"You're lying! Hailey was a sweet girl, with no enemies. Why would anyone have a reason to stage her murder?"
"You." Dennis said. This caused Riley to stagger back.
"No, impossible. I didn't have anything to do with the DHS until much later."
"Well, it's not you directly, but your mother."
"My mother?!" Riley became even more confused. "How is my mother involved with any of this?"
"Your mother spent some time with the district attorney's office in New York, before she left for a private firm. During her time there, she put away a very dangerous man. A man who is planning something very big. The leader of the Mr. Solomon syndicate."
"Mr. Solomon Syndicate? He's a drug dealer. How does the DHS have anything to do with it?"
"His transactions originate from outside of the country. We have reason to believe he has been planning an attack on our soil. His plans were thwarted temporarily when your mother put him behind bars. He's not only coming for our home Matthews, but he is also coming for your mother."
"How does any of that involve Hailey?"
"You were always the target Matthews. Hailey was an agent. You were her assignment. Her identity was discovered by Adan, and that lead to her demise."
"Wh..what?" Riley stammered. All this information began to cause her great distress. "Dennis, I can't help you. I'm out. I plan on staying out." Riley said coldly. She left that part of her life behind her and a secret from everyone in her life. She had no intention of ever turning back.
"Matthews. Did you miss the part where I said your mother is their target?" Riley's head immediately snapped back up. "What do you need me to do?"

Riley turned her headlights off as she pulled onto the rocky driveway. She glanced at the time, and it read 3:30 A.M. She had been gone for over 2 hours. She took a deep breath in relief. Everyone should still be asleep. It was only 2 hours, but it felt like 6. She laid her head back against the head rest and closed her eyes in defeat. Every time she thought she had escaped the past; it always came knocking. She thought back to her time with the Department of Homeland Security. She had just graduated from Rice. She didn't know what to do with her life at the time. She told her family and friends that she was going to take a year to figure herself out. No one questioned her, they all assumed she still needed time to heal from Lucas. She still couldn't figure out what caused her to join the Department of Homeland Security. She completed training and would go on to complete a few small assignments. One day, she was recruited for a big assignment. An assignment that lead her to applying for medical school. That assignment lasted well over three years. It was almost unheard of for an agent to integrate their real life into an assignment. That assignment took a toll on Riley. It was beginning to turn her into someone she didn't want to be. She resigned from the DHS and continued medical school. Never did she think that she would end up getting pulled back into that world. She had no choice; her mother was in danger.

Riley slowly entered the house, trying to be as quiet as possible. Lucas would be awake soon. He normally got up early to start his chores on the ranch.

"Where have you been? Dr. Matthews." Lucas's voice boomed from the dining room table. This caused Riley to jump with a slight gasp.
"Lucas, you scared me!" Riley exclaimed in a whisper. Lucas rose from his seat and took long strides towards Riley. He stopped in front of her, and she kept her head turned away from him. He gently grabbed her by the chin and pulled her to face him.
"Not as much as you scared me. I was terrified, Riley. You disappeared in the middle of the night, after our first night together. I thought you ran. Now, where have you been?"
"I.. I'm sorry. I didn't leave because of that. I woke up, and I couldn't go back to sleep. So, I went to the gym." She half lied. After her meeting with Dennis, she did spend some time working out. This was one of the reasons she wanted to go far away from any type of agency. It made her too good of a liar. To placate her own guilt, she always added some truth to her lies. Lucas pulled back and looked her over. She was in gym attire and had a little sweat on her. Lucas knew she was telling the truth. He installed a track on her car, and her car was parked at the gym the entire time. It took everything in him to not follow her out there, but he couldn't let her know. He couldn't let her know that he had installed that tracker in her car. It was for her own safety.

"It seems like I didn't wear you out enough, Dr. Matthews." Lucas said throwing her over his shoulder and headed towards the bedroom.
"Lucas!" Riley exclaimed in a whisper.

"I told you to leave Riley Matthews out of this." Adan looking up at the man in front of him. His eyes narrowed on the stack of photos laid out in front of him. She was as beautiful as ever, and it tore a hole in his heart to see her with another man. She was his, and always would be. It upset him that his men were trailing her without his authorization. He never intended to and never would endanger Riley to get to her mother.
"It was the big boss's order." The idiot in front of him said. Adan looked up at the idiot in front of him again.

"I am your boss, and either you stop listening to that son of a b- or I kill you. Leave Riley Matthews out of this!" His voice boomed. The idiot staggered off, afraid. The man he called big boss was scary, but that man was no match for Adan. Adan watched as the idiot ran off. Dennis was getting out of control and would need to be taken care of.
