Ch 3 A Dance with Devils

Miko was hoping Vergil would stick around a bit longer even though he did help her get Ei back. Vergil did free them from the demons completely, he didn't have much of a reason to stay with them.

Vergil disappeared into the night, Shogun and Miko were like lost shadows left behind. Miko turns to check and sees the Shogun in better condition than before which is a good indication that the demons are truly gone and defeated this time.

Ayato and Ayaka take a knee in front of the Shogun.

"It's good to have you back but I fear the danger has not passed." Ayato explained.

"Yes, as I am right now it's difficult to move around and to deal with current threats." Shogun stated.

"Ayato, is there something else?" Miko asked.

"After they took you away the ones responsible came and gave us the option to surrender or perish. They made it quite clear what they are capable of." Ayato explained.

"They are not aware that we escape from captivity yet but I can imagine how that will go once they do. While captive, they told us that Inazuma was not the only place they attacked, but other cities in Teyvat as well around the same time." Miko explained.

"That would make the overall situation far worse than we initially thought." Ayaka found Mikos's words troubling.

Ayato processed the new information and concluded.

"There is not much time before they return. I would advise Lady Guuji and you to go into hiding until you have recovered." Ayato advises.

"The ones who attack us will stop at nothing once they find out we have escaped captivity. We are not exactly on good terms with the Watatsumi in the west." Shogun points out.

"They will search every corner of Inazuma and there is no telling what will happen to anyone aiding us. There is also no telling what methods they will use to draw us out." Miko points out.

"That is why you won't be in Inazuma but somewhere else. There are limited places you could hide out here but at least Teyvat has more options. The way things are right now, we will be no match for the demons, and if it against the stronger and larger demons which some have already been cited."Ayato summarized

"Where will we go?" Miko asked.

"Only the person, who I have made arrangements with knows. That's how severe the situation is, however, the final decision is yours."

Shogun sees that Ayato took great steps and prepared for this situation. If the situation requires her to leave and recover someplace while finding the cause of all this, then leaving Inazuma would be the best choice for now. Shogun pondered on a solution while looking out the window and up at the mountain.

Leaving Inazuma City

Thoma and a few guards were leaving the city. They were discussing the recent events that happened along with what could happen in the next few days. Along the way back to the estate the group were ambushed by a group of demons. The guards knew they didn't stand a chance but Thoma confronted them head-on. After watching Thoma, the guards gain some courage and also engage the demon. After a long tough fight they are able to fight off the demons. Thoma and the guards pick up some injuries but nothing they can bounce back from. A cloaked figure watched from a distance and observed Thomas's fight with the demons.

"Looks like some humans got some backbone in this place. Still, that one human possessed a Vision that allowed him to confront the demons. Would he have done so if he didn't have a Vision?" Vergil thought to himself.

A small group of Fatui soldiers were passing by and spotted Vergil. They slowly begin to approach Vergil with ill intent.

"Well, what do we have here? A poor local lost out here." Electrowarhammer Vanguard mocks him.

"Nah, maybe he owed so much debt, he had to give up his home to try to pay it off." Geochanter Bracer

"I have no debt to anyone nor any busy with you clowns. Get lost." Vergil didn't bother to look at them.

Fatui soldiers just laughed at Vergil.

"This local thinks he can talk to us however he pleases." Pyroslinger Bracer added.

"Let's show him what happens when crosses us." Electro Vanguard preparing to fight.

The Fatui soldiers charged their weapons and prepared to confront Vergil. Vergil slightly turned his head towards them.

"Resign to your fate I see." Vergil turns and faces them.

The Fatui sneakered at Vergil.

"You don't seem to realize who you're messing with? We are your worst nightmare." Cryo gunner boasted.

Vergil sees the Fatui soldiers powering up their weapons.

"Hmm. They don't look like locals and seem to possess Visions but it feels different. Let's see what they're made of." Vergil thought to himself while observing them.

"A nightmare? No, your practice." Vergil calmly stated while electro crackled.

"Get him!" Pyroslinger.

Cryo Gunner leaps toward Vergil and after he lands he begins to shoot him with his cryo gun. The Cryo Gunner was certain he close the gap between the two of them. Vergil extended his thumb and drew Yamato with electro crackling around it.

Vergil removed his cloak and used his electro to dash and attack the Cryo Gunner in four different directions. The attack was so fast that there were four electro-type after-images. Vergil reappeared slowly sheathing his sword. The after images returned to Vergil while hitting the Cryo Gunner.

"So slow." Vergil sheaths his sword.

The Cryo gunner's blood sprayed out and was hit by lightning in quick succession.

"Shit, no time to waste." Electro Vanguard powered up even more and charged in at Vergil.

Electro Vanguard swings his hammer horizontally a few times at Vergil and finishes with an explosive vertical smash causing a small explosion. Geochanter puts up a barrier. After the dust clears, the Electro Vanguard sees none of his attacks connected.

"He is fast. I'll give him that." Electro Vanguard stated.

Pyroslinger started feeling hesitant. Electro Vanguard was preparing to attack again and raise his electro-war hammer. Vergil dashes towards him and hits Electro Vanguard multiple times and appears behind him (Rapid Slash)

Vergil slowly sheaths his sword. Electro Vanguard was preparing to hit Vergil.

"You're already dead." (Omae Wa Mo Shindeiru.) Vergil calmly stated without even looking at him.

"What?" (Nani?) Electro Vanguard not sure what he meant.

*Ga-Shin SFX*

Vergil sheathed his sword and blood spread everywhere and the Electro Vanguard fell to pieces. The other two Fatui begin to freak out.

"Who is this guy?" Pyroslinger asked.

"Don't know. I don't think there was anyone like this around." Geochanter answered.

Geochanter raised his staff and pointed it at Vergil. He shoots a couple of geo rocks at Vergil. Vergil casually parries the attack with finesse and shoots some back at the Geochanter. The Geochanter warps to a different spot and his comrade is too scared to move and was hit by the rocks knocking him over. Vergil was slightly surprised at Geochanter's high-speed movement. Geochanter shoots more rocks at Vergil and smacks them back at him again. Geochanter is not able to warp again but sets up a barrier to block the incoming attacks.

"Hoh? What else can you do?" Vergil was slightly surprised at Geochanter's response.

After blocking the incoming attacks and setting up the barrier, the Geochanter was showing signs of fatigue and continued to shoot more rocks at Vergil. Vergil just shook his head.

"Disappointing." Vergil taunting Geochanter.

"Why you!" Geochanter irritated.

The Geochanter shoots more rocks at but Vergil dashes towards him using electro and closes the distance. Vergil did an Upper Slash that lifted Geochanter off the ground and followed up with a Downward Slash that slammed the Geochanter to the ground. Vergil stylishly sheaths his sword. Geochanter doesn't get back up. Vergil turned towards the last Fatui soldier who was standing scared out of his mind.

"You haven't seen the last of the Fatui!" Pyroslinger's shouts as he runs away.

Vergil watches the Pyroslinger run for his life and walk off in the opposite direction while his cloak floats down and he retrieves it.

Evening Time

The sun was going down and more demons and other monsters were appearing. A group of demons were heading towards the Kamisato Estate. The estate was within the demons and monsters' view. They continued further until a cloaked figure stood in front of them. Vergil slowly raises his head and faces the demons. They roared and howled at him. Vergil just extended his thumb to draw Yamato.

The outside was rowdy with demonic and abyssal activity. Shogun decided to read the book Miko gave her to take her mind off things for the moment . She pulled it out and began reading.

"..during their travels, they met many allies. One of the people they met along the way seemed questionable. Were they an ally or enemy? The individual did have much respect for the man and company after their assistant in one of the areas they passed through." Shogun reading.

Three Days Later…

Over the next couple of days, there were a lot of demonic activities at night. Thoma and the others handled what demons they could but there was no end to the demon's numbers. Ayato had placed the final touches into his plan but there was one thing that needed to be addressed.

"The last couple of nights have been really active with demons." Ayato points out.

"Hard to rest with that noise going on." Miko commented.

"Everything is prepared. Now, the only issue left is for someone to accompany you two." Ayato sums things up.

"Well, I would suggest a certain someone but he is nowhere to be found." Miko suggested.

"Oh, you mean Vergil. I'm very surprised you would suggest him. I figured he was the type to not want to get involved in some things that don't concern him." Ayato interested in Miko's response.

"Who?" Shogun asked.

Shogun was curious about who they were talking about. The only other person who comes to mind would be Koujou Sara but she is in charge of the army and it would be ill advised to replace her with the current situation. Shogun looks out the window again as if she felt a familiar presence.

"By the way, he did say something before he left?" Ayato mentioned this while looking at the Shogun.

"What exactly did he say?" Shogun asked.

"He will be waiting at the Narukami Shrine once you recover enough." Ayato looking at Shogun.

Shogun was curious but was pleased with the news.

"I see. A secure location away from prying eyes and ears. Take me to Narukami Shrine." Shogun commanded.

Ayato and Ayaka made a nod to the Shogun command. After some preparation, they took off to their destination.

Heading up the Mountain.

Shogun, Miko, Ayato, and Ayaka headed up to the Narukami Shrine. Along the way, they found countless demons and abyssal corpses along the way to the top.

"There are so many, who could have done this?" Ayaka wondered.

"I wonder indeed. Thoma did report there was a lot of activity the last few days" Ayato replied.

Shogun and Miko looked at all the demons and abyssal bodies that were cut up and sliced along the way.

Plane of Eithumia

The realm of the true ruler meditated in her pursuit of Eternity. Ei ponders on the recent events. Shogun brings Ei to speed on recent events such as the attack from the demons, abyssal creatures, and Fatui. Ayato plans from Miko and Shogun. Shogun also mentioned that Miko recommended someone to accompany but he hasn't been seen or heard of for a few days until moments ago.

"An attack from unknown demons and abyssal creatures and Inazuma was not the only place to be attacked but also Teyvat." Ei summarized.

"That's correct." Shogun replied.

"What of the one who Miko suggested?" Ei asked.

"The one known as Yae Miko seems to know of the one who could accompany us." Shogun informed Ei.

"I see. How is your recovery from the demon attack?" Ei asked.

"Unfortunately, it has left me in a state not appropriate for dealing with the invaders. I should be asking you about your condition." Shogun points out.

"That demon was able to force me to relive those horrible moments I wish to not be reminded of. It .." Ei not wanting to think about her torment by the Nightmare demon.

"But then something else appeared. Something from within that darkness came and set me free. Whatever it was, it seemed worse than the ones tormenting me but to my surprise, it didn't come for me." Ei looking at Shogun.

Shogun noticed that Ei was thinking about something.

"You seem distracted?" Shogun points out.

"No, it's just that, there was a man in blue who was with Miko. I briefly saw him for a moment before he left. He didn't look like someone from Inazuma." Ei wondered who was with Miko.

"A man in blue?" Shogun asked.

Shogun, trying to recall recent events, doesn't recall seeing a man in blue much less the one who saved her while she tried to recall some details.

"White hair?" Shogun trying to remember.

"Regarding the one she recommended, no one has been in contact with him. Do you think he could be a threat to Eternity or Inazuma?" Shogun asked.

"I'm uncertain. Although he had a strange presence that left me uncertain and uneasy about him. I hope and want to believe. There is only one way to find out and be certain." Ei response.

"Are you sure there isn't someone else more suited for this task?" Shogun asked.

"Could there be anyone else better suited for this task with the way things are currently?" Ei replied.

"I'm uncertain about this and judge it to be a very questionable move based on recent events. We know nothing about him or where he comes from. Or if he is involved with everything that has happened. I don't think he is suited for this task nor does he have any obligations to help us." Shogun points out.

"I know it's not the most advised move. Even I have questions about everything that happened recently, especially him. If he was somehow involved then why would he go through the trouble to save Miko and help us?" Ei points out.

"That is a fair point."

"It was Miko who suggested him and I know she wouldn't recommend just anyone. I'd say he is very much suited for this task." Ei stated.

"Even if he is, this man has no obligation to help us." Shogun points out.

"I know but we won't know unless we try." Ei being hopeful.

"We could battle him and force to help us if need be."

"Umm..that is admirable but pointless in our current state. The only option is to present our case and hope he will help us." Ei not really accept the idea of battling him.

"Let us hope for the best. Should he take on this task, I wish to uncover more about him and how he was able to overcome the demon."

Ei gave a curious look at Shogun.

"Sounds like he sparked some curiosity with you." Ei points out.

"Nonsense. I simply wish to understand him. Not as you but for myself. That is all." Shogun crosses her arms.

"Let's not keep him waiting shall we."

There was something else on the Shogun's mind but she was not certain on how to address it.

Narukami Shrine

Ei secretly switched out with Shogun and felt the condition she was in. It would be very difficult to fight and with the loss of a lot of power, she won't triumph over her adversaries at the current moment.

They reached the top of the mountain where the shrine was located and found more demonic corps everywhere. Miko was not happy with what she saw. They continue towards the Sacred Sakura tree. Once they arrived they found Vergil by the tree sitting in a chair facing the tree while looking down at the mountain and holding Yamato in front of him.

"This presence, it feels like the one from before. It must be him." Ei accessed.

"Oh Vergil, mind telling me what happened here and did you have to bring that weird chair?" Miko asked Vergil while the tone in her voice was calm.

Miko appears calm on the outside but everyone could sense her aura that says otherwise.

"Yes, I do need the chair Miko, it comforts me." Vergil replied while slowly standing up and partially facing the group while the chair dematerialized.

"He kinda looks like Oni-sama with shorter hair." Ayaka thought to herself.

"So this is what he looks like under that cloak. He certainly looks like a noble of some kind." Ayato had a clearer view of Vergil's appearance.

"He is most certainly not from Inazuma given how he is dressed. Although he does look like someone from the Kamisato clan. Perhaps he is from somewhere else in Teyvat." Ei thought to herself while observing Vergil.

"Well, you're gonna have to sell it to pay for damages here." Miko upset.

"Oh, is that the case?" Vergil replied.

"Yes. I hope you have a way to pay for all this." Miko slowly approaches Vergil. At the same time, her expression changed once she got a closer look at him and stopped moving.

"Let me be clear Miko, I will never pay." Vergil replied.

"Now, now, we can talk about this matter later, Lady Guuji. Let's not forget why we are here." Ayato tries to calm Miko down.

"Miko seems to get along with him well." Ei continues to observe Vergil and Miko's interactions.

At the same time Ei approaches Vergil with a determined expression on her face. Vergil sees the beautiful Ei slowly and elegantly approaching him. Ei could feel his somewhat cold glare but it also had a gentle feel to it. Sakura tree leaves fall as the two see each other. Ei observes Vergil as she approaches him. The wind was lightly blowing through his white and blue trench coat.

"It's nice to finally meet you. The man who saved Miko and myself." Ei started off.

"You showed up." Vergil focuses his attention on Ei after hearing her gentle tone.

"Seriously, is your brain malfunctioning Vergil, why would she not come here?" Miko remains calm but she wants to give Vergil a piece of her mind.

Ei let out a small laugh from seeing an irritated Miko which is a rare sight to see. Miko soon realized that it was Ei and not Shogun talking to Vergil.

"You are Vergil?" Ei asked in a curious tone.

"Yes." Vergil answered Ei.

"I'm Raiden Shogun. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." Ei introduced herself.

"Mmm."

"My real name is Ei, please just call me Shogun when my subjects are around. I'll explain it later. I'm not one for formalities." Ei whispered.

"You have something to discuss, do you not, Shogun-sama." Vergil being calm and discreet.

"Ah, straight to the point, much like her." Ei observes Vergil.

"I'm not sure how much you are aware of what's going on but I need your help. As I am now, I don't have enough strength to fight off the invading forces or the one who will come after us, due to recent events." Ei explained.

"Recent events?" Vergil asked.

"Yes. Due to my captivity with the demons. It left me in a rather vulnerable state. I'm forced to leave here until I've recovered. I'm told that Inazuma was not the only place to be attacked but all Teyvat. I would like you to accompany us." Ei continued.

"Us?" Vergil asked.

Vergil looks over at Ayato who is drinking his bubble tea and looks over at Vergil with a smile and waves.

"Yes. Miko says you are a capable warrior. Coming from her, that says a lot. I'm also curious to see how capable you are. Will you help me?" Ei asked Vergil.

Vergil looks at Ei and everyone else present for a moment then back at Ei.

"She too, has that look in her eyes. This Ei will most certainly return." Vergil thought to himself while looking Ei in the eyes.

"You are not the type to simply accept defeat are you?" Vergil asked Ei.

"Of course not. I must protect my subjects and preserve Inazuma." Ei replied.

"Again with that. She wishes to protect what's important to them while dealing with the ones responsible. Ei does not have the strength to do it alone but is still willing to protect them. Demons and these Abyssal creatures are involved." Vergil continues pondering while looking at the others and back at Ei.

Images from long ago of his home burning and him reaching out to nothing.

"Protect? Something important?" Vergil pondered.

Vergil continued to assess their situation. At the same time Miko starts to make her way by Ei's side to see what Vergil's decision will be. The wind was blowing and there was silence in the air.

*Light wind blowing SFX*

"Onii-sama, what do you think Vergil will do?" Ayaka asked Ayato.

"Hard to say, I get the impression that there is more to him than meets the eye." Ayato replied.

Vergil's head lowered and eyes closed while thinking. The thing Vergil heard was loud enough that only he heard.

"..." Ei uttered so that only Vergil would hear.

*Light wind blowing SFX*

Vergil lifts his head and to his surprise, Ei's head lowered enough that others would not notice. He recalled the more recent events of his near death followed by Miko saving his life. Vergil still does not understand why Miko saved him to begin with.

"Ei and Miko will be hunted by those who attacked them once it's discovered that they escaped captivity. They could attempt to resist in their current state. Admirable but pointless." Vergil analyzed the situation.

Vergil continues to analyze the current situation.

"This Ei wants to survive, in order to return home and eliminate the threat. Perhaps more of this elementary power can be found. One can only wonder." Vergil thought to himself.

Images of a burning house flash before Vergil's mind. The small bloody hand reaches out towards the house again.

"Might control everything. Without strength, you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself." Vergil recalls telling Dante this when they fought over their ideas many years ago.

"Hm?" Ei and Miko heard Vergil utter something.

*Sibling Showdown DMC3 ost cue*

"We are the Sons of Sparta, in each of us flows his blood but more importantly his soul." Vergil remembers his battles with Dante as they battle over their very existence.

"Dante." Vergil utters.

Vergil raised his head and opened his eyes.

"We have an uninvited guest." Vergil stated while turning towards the Sacred Sakura tree and walking towards it a bit.

"?" Ei not sure what Vergil meant.

At the same time a familiar presence made its way to the top and landed in front of Vergil.

"Sasayuri? You're alive? How?" Ei in shock.

"Miko said the same thing." Vergil recalls while briefly looking back at Ei.

Flashbacks from her captivity as well as the events from long ago flickered in her mind. Ayato took notice that Ei was somehow acquainted with one of the ones who attacked the city.

"If the Shogun is familiar with this individual, does that mean she knows the others who attack the city as well? We can't let this guy inform the others." Ayato processing the information.

"Damn you!" Yuri was furious.

Yuri was battered up and furious with Vergil and slowly approached him. Vergil turns around and walks towards Ei and Miko. Yuri slowly followed Vergil. After a few steps, Vergil stops and draws Yamato while raising one arm and twirling it then slams Yamato to the ground while still looking at Ei and Miko. Yuri stopped moving. Vergil slowly sheaths his sword.

*Gii Shiin SFX*

After Vergil sheaths his sword, Yuri falls backward into pieces off the cliff. Ayato and Ayaka could not believe what they just witnessed. Ei was also in disbelief.

"Onii-sama, what just happened?" Ayaka was in disbelief.

"It appears Vergil finished off that demon with ease. Not even I could see his movements just now." Ayato replied.

"No way! What is he? Humans haven't reached this sort of feat even with a Vision." Ei analyzed while her eyes were rattling.

Ei looked at where the demon Yuri was before he fell to pieces and then at Vergil. Ei resolved herself and stared at Vergil, still trying to understand him even after he slayed the demon that looked like her friend from long ago. Vergil stared back at Ei, unflinching.

"That was.." Ei is still in disbelief.

"The demon that attacked and imprisoned you." Vergil replied.

"That demon looked just like Sasayuri and is the same one that attacked Miko and myself ?" Ei was troubled by this and trying to process what was going on.

Ei looked Vergil in the eyes once again but knew Vergil meant what he said and she was still processing what had just happened. Vergil could see that there was some relation to Ei and the demon he just slayed. Ei looks back at Vergil although she is uncertain about the current things but she is willing to put her trust in Vergil.

"This is a lot to take in and not enough time to process this. I'll need to speak with Vergil alone and sort this out. Maybe there is some explanation for all this." Ei still processing things.

Ei takes a breath and calmly looks at Vergil.

"You aren't really human are you?" Ei asked.

"Well, could a normal person really pull that off?" Miko added.

Vergil slowly walks up to Ei and Miko and stops. He is now face to face with Ei and Miko but there is still some distance between them.

"Now where to go?" Vergil asked calmly.

Ei gave a small smile.

"The location is only known to the person that is taking us there." Miko answered.

"Looks like everything has been decided." Ayaka happy things worked out.

"Indeed, now for the final touches." Ayato was content with how things played out and walked toward Vergil, Ei, and Miko.

Ayato hands Miko a bag and some documents.

"What's this?" Miko asked.

"Oh, nothing much. Just a few things to aid you while you're out there." Ayato smiles.

"Hmm, this should come in handy." Miko was pleased.

"I'm glad you approve. Now, our business here has concluded. I suggested you all depart by nightfall."

Ayato and Ayaka say their parting words and leave. Ayato looks back for a moment.

Flashback

Kamisato Estate Night Time

Vergil was heading out after he destroyed the Nightmare.

"I'll hear what she has to say and decide after that." Vergil informed Ayato while looking back at Shogun and Miko.

Ayato was surprised but gave a small smile.

"Once she has recovered enough, I'll be waiting at shirine on the top." Vergil tells Ayato as he heads out.

End Flashback

Ayato still looking back.

"I leave them to you and shall await your return." Ayato was satisfied with Vergil's answer.

Ayato and Ayaka head down the mountain.

"We should make our way to port soon." Miko suggested.

"Before that.." Vergil reached in his coat to grab something.

Vergil presents Ei's hairpiece to her.

"Eh?" Ei was surprised that Vergil had her hairpiece.

Ei checks her hair for a second.

"This belongs to you." Vergil holds out her hairpiece.

Ei looks at Vergil for a moment then reaches out slowly to grab the hairpiece in Vergil's hand. Ei's soft fingers made contact with Vergil's hand as she slowly retrieved her hairpiece. After she retrieved it, she held it for a moment then placed it in her hair. At the same time Ei looks Vergil in the eyes and sees they look a little heavy and he has been up to something since the last time she saw him. She also is reminded of a sad feeling that she still carries with her but she has a hopeful expression when looking at him.

"Thank you. This is very important to me." Ei thanks Vergil with a small smile.

Vergil wasn't sure how to respond since he was not used to someone thanking him for something. Vergil felt an unusual feeling, that he had to turn around to hide that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

"Eh? What's wrong? What's that unusual expression on your face? Is grumpy O' Vergil feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside?" Miko teased Vergil while trying to see what expression he was making.

"Vergil, I'll be going, let's talk again." Ei smiled.

Vergil had a stoic expression again.

*Light Giggles* " Well, while we are out, I ask for you to get along with her." Ei advises Vergil.

"Her?" Vergil asked while not certain what she meant by that.

"Yes, the Shogun. She is a bit curious about you." Ei smiles.

"Wait, are you not the Shogun?" Vergil is not sure what's going on.

"Yes. It's a long story. I'd be happy to talk about it later."

"Ei." Miko calls for her

"Miko?"Ei responded.

"It's good to see you again." Miko gave a small smile at Ei.

"I'd wish it were on better circumstances. Let's talk again." Ei replied.

Ei closed her and appeared to be asleep while still standing up.

"Miko." Vergil calls for her while facing her.

"Ara, he finally remembered my name, I'm touched." Miko messing with Vergil.

"How are there two of her?" Vergil asks Miko.

*Wind blowing SFX*

Just before Ei switched out with Shogun she heard something fall to the ground. She looks over by the podium under the Sakura tree and walks over to it. Once she reached it she saw a strange-looking red jewel with a gold chain on the ground. Vergil and Miko see Ei by the Sakura Tree.

"Ei, did you find something?" Miko asked.

Ei slowly turned towards Vergil and Miko and was holding the object she found with two hands. Vergil's eyes widened as he recognized what it was.

"My amulet?" Vergil not expecting to see it here of all places.

Miko noticed Vergil's expression and was curious about what this amulet was to him since it seemed to grab Vergil's attention and cause him to show some kind of human expression. Ei sees that this is something important to Vergil. She steps down from the podium and walks towards Vergil. Once she was close enough she presented the amulet to Vergil.

"I'm not sure what this is but I can see that it is something important to you." Ei commented while presenting the amulet.

Ei and Vergil look at each other for a moment. Vergil slowly grabs the amulet while their fingers briefly touch each other. Ei felt the touch of Vergil fingers for only a moment. She hasn't felt the touch of another person for centuries. A feeling long forgotten until now. Vergil holds the amulet in one hand and gazes at it for a moment before bringing it close to his head. Ei and Miko were taken aback after seeing something like this from Vergil.

"Vergil. Dante. Happy Birthday." Eva presented the amulet to Vergil and Dantes on their recalls that day his mother presented the amulet.

"No one can have this Dante. It's mine. It belongs to a Son of Sparda." Vergil tells Dante before staying in the Demon World.

Vergil looks at Ei and Miko then pushes his hair back.

"In the name of my Father Sparda, I will ensure your safety." Vergil declares while looking at both Ei and Miko.

They both gave a small smile and felt reassured.

"Hearing him say something like that along with that gesture seems rather fascinating. I hope to hear more about the item that you hold dear to you. Also, who is this Sparda?" Ei thought to herself with a small smile at Vergil.

"Quite the show off aren't you Vergil? What else will you show me? Not to mention this Sparda. Won't you tell me?" Miko thought to herself while mischiefly smiling at Vergil.

"Miko?" Vergil calls out Miko.

"Hmm?"

"You have a rather unusual facial expression." Vergil regains his composure.

"Oh do worry bout that. Does it bother you?" Miko asked while still having a mischievous smile.

"No."

"Hoh. You pretty brave aren't you?"

Ei switches out with Shogun while Vergil and Miko are talking.

"You must be the one called Vergil?" Shogun clarifies in a calm tone.

Vergil slowly turns in Shogun's direction and Shogun slowly opens her violent eyes to see Vergil with her own eyes. Both their eyes met.

"Yes. You are Raiden Shogun?" Vergil clarifying?

Shogun's eyes widened a bit after hearing Vergil's voice and seeing him. She briefly recalls that moment she was free and the burry image of a man with white hair. The same time Shogun recalls her talk with Ei along with her being captured inside the Nightmare demon she heard Vergil for a moment.

Inside the Nightmare

*Silent Seclusion Genshin Impact ost cue*

The un-clothed Shogun was held by demonic restraints that had a red glow and suspended in the air. The area was dark and had a black water surface. A violent rumble in the area was enough to shake and caused some of the restraints to snap and the captive fell to the water surface. An exhausted Shogun opens her eyes. She is uncertain if it's real or not after being tortured and restrained. Shogun faintly sees a distortion not too far from her. She crawled towards it and once she reached it she could hear some noise.

"Knee before me!"

Hope and determination filled Shogun's eyes. She extends her hand through the distortion. More life returned to her eyes as she felt the outside air.

"Shogun!" Miko shouts.

Shogun was happy to hear Mikos's voice. The Shogun continued to push her arm through but was soon restrained by the demon. Shogun began to get frustrated but kept on fighting. She felt something wrap around her leg and slowly pull her back. Shogun tried to resist but like before she was losing strength. Shogun was pulled away from her only means of escape. She looks back and sees a large black liquid type of skull howling and pulling her away from the escape route. Shogun felt powerless as the restraints were being put back on her. The next moment the whole area was shaking violently. It was so violent that a large black skull lost its grip on the Shogun and tossed. She landed on her back much closer to the distortion. Shogun was dazed and exhausted while lying on her back feeling lifeless. She looked at the large skull that wasn't moving for some strange reason. Shogun heard that same sound from the outside.

*PJC SFX*

"Down you go!"

Shogun realizes that whoever was outside has not given up on her. She summons what little strength she could and crawls towards the distortion and reaches out hoping to escape her imprisonment. She felt the outside air once again but it wasn't enough for her. Shogun was not sure how much longer she would be able to hold out. Suddenly she felt someone's hand grab hers and slowly pull her out. Shogun nearly had tears in her eyes which has never happened before. While Shogun was being pulled out she was once again grabbed and pulled back in. Shogun, shaking to the side, refused to accept this as she was losing consciousness. She felt herself slipping and could not bear to go back. The area began to shake violently enough the large black skull lost its grip on her. Shogun felt the grip on the outside reinforced and pulled her out. She felt at ease as was pulled through.

Narukami Shrine

The next moment she felt a light breeze hit her. Shogun, unable to move much, struggled to open her eyes. She sees a blurry image of someone with white hair before her eyes close again.

*End Flashback*

"It was him?" Shogun thought to herself while her eyes slightly rattled while focusing on Vergil. She realizes it was Vergil she heard and it was him who freed her from the demon.

"Thank you, for saving me." Shogun gives a bow and thanks Vergil for saving her. Miko was surprised at this action from the Shogun.

"Eh? This is most unexpected. Is she broken?" Miko thought to herself.

"Uh..your welcome." Vergil replied and still not used to being thanked. Shogun raised her head to look at Vergil.

Fallen leaves from the Sacred Sakura tree fall as they stare at each other for a moment. A strange feeling began to stir with her.

"It's only natural to thank someone but what is this strange sensation I'm getting?" Shogun not sure what is happening.

*Heartbeat SFX*

Vergil could sense the air around her was different from Ei.

"Yes, I am. I'm also an assistant to the one within. The true ruler of Inazuma. If she wills it, I will assist her." Shogun explained while regaining her composure.

Shogun took a moment and noticed Vergil carrying Yamato, the sword Miko and her repaired with a lot of effort. She looks at the sword and then at Vergil and also notices the heavy bags around Vergil's eyes like he hasn't slept much recently.

"Are you the owner of that sword?" Shogun asked Vergil.

"I am." Vergil answered.

"I'm told you are a capable warrior. Though you are not from these lands you have come to our aid. You have been tasked to accompany the Narukami Ogoshi as well as the Guuji. If you are prepared for such a task, then show me your resolve." Shogun stated.

Shogun walks past Vergil while distancing herself back a bit then she draws her pole arm, the Engulfing Lighting.

"Ready yourself." Shogun commanded Vergil.

"Wait, you can't be serious! You are in no condition for this." Miko standing in between them.

"Stand aside." Shogun commanded Miko.

"No!" Miko answered.

"Miko." Vergil calls out to her while facing Shogun.

"Are you serious Vergil?" Miko facing Vergil.

Vergil didn't say anything and just stared down Shogun. Miko noticed her words wouldn't reach either of them and decided to move. Shogun noticed Vergil still has not drawn his sword yet. Vergil continues to stare down Shogun. He Air Tricks towards results were rather interesting.

*Air Trick boss version SFX*

*Clang*

Shogun was barely able to respond but she was not able to withstand the weight behind the exchange, causing both of them to fall over. Vergil and Raiden Shogun were now face to face but both had a stern expression. Just as she lost her footing Vergil was able to catch Shogun as she was falling. Shogun somehow grabs Vergil's arm to help stop her fall a few inches from the ground.

"My sincere apologies, Shogun-sama. I put too much effort behind that strike." Vergil apologies.

"I'll pardon your rudeness. I simply lost my footing." Shogun replied.,

"Care to try again?" Vergil asked Shogun.

"Certainly." Shogun answered.

Vergil and Shogun got back up on their feet and repositioned themselves.

Vergil changed his approach this time. Electro began to crackle around him for a bit. Vergil used the electro energy to dash towards the Shogun this time.

*Clang*

Vergil dashes towards Shogun using electro this time and pushes her back a bit while their weapons collide. Shogun wasn't able to push him back. Miko noticed that Vergil was only using one hand while Shogun was using two, in addition, he used elemental energy instead for some reason. Vergil and Shogun stared each other down but there was no hostility coming from either one.

"Capable of using elemental energy without a Vision. You appear to be an exception and there seems to be something else about you." Shogun observing Vergil.

"Defeating you like this, would have no meaning. Finished recovering, get strong. After that, we'll do this properly." Vergil advises Shogun.

"A bold claim thinking you can defeat me at full strength. No matter, I'll hold you to that." Shogun replied while looking at Vergil.

The two stared each other down for a moment until Vergil used enough force to send her polearm spinning up into the air. Vergil sheaths his sword and catches her polearm and returns it to Shogun. Miko also heads over to where Shogun and Vergil are standing.

"Was that really necessary?" Miko asked Vergil.

"Yes, it was necessary to confirm and see his resolve." Shogun answered.

"Confirm what?" Miko asked

Miko turns towards Shogun who elegantly puts away her weapon.

" I need to know if we can entrust our lives to him." Shogun stated.

"That's an awfully extreme approach, even for you." Miko pointed out.

"As I said it was necessary and I have confirmed a few things." Shogun continued.

"What have you confirmed?" Vergil asked.

"You are not quite human. The air around you is different like a yokai." Shogun determined.

"That much is certain having been with him for a moment. Although he kindly returned her hairpiece." Miko replied.

"Really? With no ill intent?" Shogun asked.

"I've seen it with my own eyes." Miko replied.

"He's not like those who attack us otherwise he would have struck myself and you down with our backs turned, giving our current state." Shogun looking back at Vergil.

"Such a distasteful method is not needed." Vergil commented.

Shogun and Miko were surprised by Vergil's statement.

"Not the response I was expecting from him, even if he is related to the yokai in some way. Intriguing." Shogun thought to herself while still observing Vergil.

"I'd also concluded he is not completely like them. Sometimes." Miko looking at Vergil.

"He also patiently waited to start our exchange despite you trying to interfere." Shogun looking at Miko.

"I'm still against the idea of you two doing that." Miko with her arms crossed.

"You also didn't hesitate to exchange blows with me despite my current condition and even proposed a second bout after I recovered. You have no lack of conviction." Shogun added.

"One must not hesitate to survive." Vergil comment.

"Lastly, you returned her precious memento with no ill intent. Is that something a yokai would do?"

Vergil remained silent.

"No response, why not just keep it from her?" Shogun asked.

Miko was curious about what Vergil would say.

"It does not belong to me nor is it any use to me." Vergil stated while slowly walking past Shogun and preparing to depart.

"I see. What is useful to you?" Shogun asked while turning towards Vergil's direction.

"Power. Absolute." Vergil turned around.

*Gust of wind blows SFX*

"I see." Shogun replied.

Shogun elegantly walked forward and looked Vergil in the eyes.

"The measure of oneself is not how much power they possess but how they use it." Shogun calmly stated looking Vergil in the eyes.

"What are you getting at Shogun-sama?" Vergil calmly asked.

"There is much to discuss Vergil and the time to depart is close at hand. After we leave, I prefer you to address me as Shogun as we walk among the common folks. I don't want my status revealed." Shogun stated.

"Very well." Vergil replied.

Vergil and Shogun stare at each other for a moment. Shogun had more questions for Vergil but she would save them for later. Shogun noticed Yamato was glowing and flashing. Vergil noticed it as well and held it in front of him. It flashes blue, violet and dark pink.

"This is curious." Vergil looking at Yamato.

Vergil looks at Shogun and Miko.

"Are you the one who repaired it?" Vergil asked while holding up Yamato. It was flashing Violet and Sakura colors that resonated with Shogun and Miko.

"A joint effort of Miko and myself." Shogun answered.

"Place your hand on it." Vergil tells Shogun and Miko.

Miko and Shogun look at each other and slowly step forward and place their hands on top of Vergil's while he is holding up Yamato. It flashes three different colors like before it flashes back to blue and stops. The same time the wind blows and pedals from the Sacred Sakura tree fall down on them.

*Wind blows SFX*

"Interesting." Vergil looking at Yamato.

"What is it?" Miko asked.

"It seems to acknowledge you two since you repaired it and..." Vergil explained.

"And?" Shogun asked.

"It seems to have taken a liking to you. How strange." Vergil tells them.

"What does that mean?" Shogun asked.

"I'm not certain yet." Vergil continues to look at Yamato.

The sun was close to setting.

"We better make way then." Miko prepares to depart.

"One last thing." Shogun halts.

"What is it?" Vergil asked.

"I wish to inform one of my subjects about this situation before we depart. Is it possible?" Shogun asked.

"You know it's pretty risky to go in there." Miko points out.

"Not if we meet outside the city."

"Still risky, even if it's coming from you." Miko is not fond of the idea.

"It will be brief." Shogun looked at Vergil.

"What is the subject name?"

"Kuujo, Sara."

Shogun gave a description of her and where to find her.

"It will take some time to get there. We must make haste." Shogun advised.

Vergil extended Yamato with his thumb and turned around. He drew Yamato and cut a cross into the air.

*Vrmm. Vrmm.*

A portal opens up just like the one Miko saw the first time. Shogun was surprised at such a feature. Vergil sheaths Yamato and proceeds to walk through.

"Let's go." Vergil tells Shogun and Miko.

"I didn't feel any elemental energy?" Shogun was a bit curious as proceed forward through the portal.

They walked through and the portal closed behind them.

Springvale

A small group of people gathered around a bard as he told tales and sang a few songs to uplift the people.

*Wind Blows SFX*

"Oh my, what is this?" Bard felt a little inspiration after the wind blew.

"Worry not people of Monstadt, though these are difficult times. What is done in the dark will be brought to the light. For there will be one from the dark to confront beings of darkness. Beyond the tree, a fire will burn. A scared love and a maidens yearn. But will that dim heart heal or destroy?" Bard playing a tune.

The crowd sprite began to improve. Around the same time Father was passing by as she heard the Bard's tune. Lyney and Lynette meet Father and they walk and talk for a moment until they return to their living area. Father gracefully sits in her chair.

"Speak, my beloved children." Father tells them.

"Yes, Father. Word about the Agents we dispatch is that they have gone missing." Lyney Reports.

"I've placed a request into the Adventure Guild to your specification. Few people have taken up the request but they too have gone missing. Since then, no one has taken up the request." Lynette reports.

Father maintains a calm expression.

"There have been reports of increased demonic activities as well as a sighting of a dragon flying around." Lyney added.

"That will be troublesome." Father not happy about hearing about the updated news.

Father looks at Lyney and can tell what's on his mind.

"Recklessness will only lead to failure." Father points out.

"Yes, Father. I think there's probably more we could be doing."

"Do not do anything that would bring unwanted attention. The siting of a dragon could cause problems if it decides to attack."

"Yes, Father."

Inazuma City Palace area

The head demons made their way into the city and towards the palace after the Tri-Commission made their decision. Sara, not able to bear watching the invaders enter their city, she leaves the crowd and heads over to her headquarters. Sara was about to enter the building when she was met by a stranger from behind. Sara prepared to attack but every cell in her body was telling her "she will be killed" if she did. Sara has encountered dangers before but nothing like this.

"Are you Kuujo Sara?" Vergil asked.

"Are you here to kill me?" Sara asked.

"If you don't attack me, then you have nothing to fear from me." Vergil cautioned Sara.

"Yes, I am. What do you want?" Sara asked.

"Information, on the ones you serve now." Vergil answered.

"I serve only the Almighty Shogun, not these invaders." Sara was irritated.

"Hohh."

"Besides, why would I disclose any of that information to a suspicious person like you? You could be secretly working for them for all I know." Sara stated.

"Depending on your cooperation, I will disclose some information related to the Almighty Shogun," Vergil answered while being discreet.

"What makes you think your information will be useful?" Sara asked while being cautious.

Vergil just looks at Sara.

"They say, you are the most loyal and devoted to the Shogun. Perhaps they are mistaken?" Vergil had doubts about Sara.

"You are not mistaken on that claim."

"Tell me what you know about the invaders and I will tell you the whereabouts of the one served."

Sara was uncertain but given the circumstances, she was willing to cooperate and tell Vergil what she knew if it meant learning the whereabouts of the Shogun.

"Several days ago, the city was attacked by an unknown group along with creatures from the abyss and demons we had never seen before. Somehow, this unknown group of people were able to overwhelm the Shogun and Lady Guuji. They took them away somewhere. The next day the unknown force returned with demons and with members of the Fatui along with a human female with golden hair." Sara explained.

At the same time Sara took Vergil to where a crowd was by the gate. The people were watching as Ibaraki and Kuromi made their way up to the main palace. The same time, there was a large black rectangular object near the palace. The function of this object is unknown for now.

"I don't see the others that were with them." Sara noticed.

Kuromi made an announcement that those with Visions would be detained and questioned. Those who are in government positions are not exempt from this. Vergil looks around Sara's waist and sees her Vision.

The crowd continued to observe the demons that entered the palace grounds while Vergil and Sara headed into the city. Vergil detects two people watching from afar.

"Is there anything else?" Vergil asked Sara.

"The decision was made before the Tri-Commission consulted each other about such an important decision. Everything happens so quickly." Sara stated.

The crowd was getting rowdy after the announcement. Vergil and Sara walk down the street and down a set of stairs that lead to another walkway that leads outside to the city.

"Kujou Sara, the Shogun is no longer in enemy hands." Vergil informed Sara.

"Is she alive?" Sara asked.

"Yes." Vergil replied.

Vergil continues to head out.

"Wait, where are we going?" Sara asked.

Vergil looked around briefly then back at Sara.

"Follow and you will have your answers," Vergil replied.

Byakkou Plain Evening time

Vergil and Sara headed down the walkway and passed some fields.

"When the time comes you will need to make a choice." Vergil informed Sara.

"What choice?" Sara asked.

Vergil stops and slowly turns around to face Sara.

"We're here." Vergil informed Sara.

They stopped in a grassy area with trees. Under one of them was another person in a hood. They continue towards that person.

"It's good to see you are well." Shogun started.

Sara stopped for a moment after hearing the Shogun's voice.

"Shogun-sama?" Sara was startled for a bit.

A hood person appears and stands next to Vergil. Shogun made her presence known to Sara.

"Yes." Shogun replied.

"I'm uncertain how you were able to escape but I'm glad you were able to." Sara is relieved to see Shogun.

"It was not my strength as I was powerless. This man here came to my aid." Shogun points out.

Sara nearly came to tears after seeing her Archon.

"Forgive me for not staying by your side. I accepted whatever punishment." Sara took a knee.

"If you were by my side, then you would have suffered the same fate as me or worse." Shogun pardon.

"Have you come to rid those who have taken over Inazuma?" Sara asked Shogun.

Vergil approaches Shogun.

"Make haste Shogun-sama." Vergil informed her while giving her some time with Sara.

Another Area

Vergil walks to an area not too far from Shogun while keeping her in view. Miko approaches Vergil.

"You know, I'm surprised you agreed to do this. Allow the Shogun to pass on a message to her loyal subject." Miko approaches Vergil.

"It's nothing to be concerned about." Vergil replied.

"Tell me, if I had someone to say my farewell to, would you have gone the extra mile?" Miko asked curiously while looking at Vergil.

"So long as it does not hinder us." Vergil answered.

Miko looks at Vergil and how he responded.

"He is such a mystery. I can't help but be curious about him." Miko looks at Vergil curiously.

Miko noticed Vergil was slightly nodding off.

"Are you alright, you look like you could use some rest." Miko is concerned.

"I'm fine. We just need to finish our business here." Vergil replied.

Miko wasn't quite buying it.

Shogun's Area

"As I am right now, I don't have the strength to fight off the invaders, so I must go." Shogun explained to Sara.

"I understand the situation. It would be the best course of action. I'm certain they used whatever means to recapture or worse. They are formidable but I know you will return and reclaim Inazuma."

"Yes. The man you just saw agreed to watch over us until we are able to return and reclaim Inazuma."

"I shall await your return and help you reclaim our home."

A sound was heard from the sky and several large objects fell from the sky and blocked Shogun's path, preventing her from escaping.

"Unfortunately, that day will never come." Lumine making an appearance.

Lumine was accompanied by armed soldiers but something appeared off about them.

"You fools! You dare point your weapons at the Shogun?" Sara yells at them.

"Heh. All I see is a former Shogun and a traitor conspiring together. Seized them." Lumine commanded.

A few armed soldiers with spears and swords charge towards them. Sara without hesitation summons her bow and shoots them with amazing reflexes and accurates. A few more charge in and Sara shoots them down as well. They hit the ground before reaching Sara and Shogun. Dark clouds were approaching the area.

"Shogun-sama, please flee. I will hold them off while you escape." Sara tells the Shogun.

The soldiers that were down, started moving. Sara was certain she immobilized them. Sara turned

her attention forward as Lumine approached Sara with amazing speed. Sara shoots but Lumine is too quick and takes down Sara and points her swords at her.

"She is faster than I thought." Sara thought to herself.

"Guess you're not the General of the Shogun's army for nothing." Lumine looking down on Sara.

"Shogun-sama, please flee!"

"She knows it's pointless to try and run. She will just end up like you." Lumine smirks at Sara.

"Shogun-sama, why have you not fled?" Sara asked Shogun.

*Stab SFX*

"Be quiet." Lumine stabs Sara in the shoulder.

Lumine pulls her sword out of Sara's shoulder and leaps towards Shogun ready to strike her down.

*Thunder and Lightning SFX*

Out of nowhere Vergil appears still wearing his cloak, right in front of Shogun and smacks Lumine's sword away.

*Clang SFX.*

"Taking longer than expected?" Miko asks Shogun while walking up to her and looks at Sara.

"Lady Guuji?" Sara surprised and looks behind Miko to see a path cut open.

Vergil thrust Lumine in the gut while Yamato was still sheath.

"Where did this guy come from?" Lumine thought to herself as she received a blow to the gut.

At the same time, Lumine looks at Vergil with a smirk. Vergil was curious about what she was smiling about. The next moment Vergil was shot in the back by a demonic energy arrow then stabbed multiple times by demons with a scythe. Shogun, Miko, and Sara slowly back up after watching Vergil get shot and stabbed multiple times. Lumine lands on the ground and stabs Vergil in the gut through with her sword causing Vergil to hunch over. Lumine goes to check to see if Vergil is dead while attempting to take his sword but was met with a hard right hook to the face that sends her flying backward while spinning like a revolver into a tree. The demons made a confused sound before each one was sent flying in a different direction. Lumine gets up and sees Vergil shake his head while standing up and looking menacing with a few scythes still stuck in him.

*Thunder and Lightning SFX*

There was a flash of lightning and Lumine saw demonic eyes glowing under the hood and staring at her during the flash. Shogun, Miko, and Sara were in disbelief that Vergil was still alive despite being stabbed and shot multiple times. Vergil partially turned around and there was another flash of lighting. The demonic eyes glowed under the cloak hood. Shogun's eyes widened a bit. They felt some shivers for a brief second before Vergil turned back around.

Vergil noticed some Enigma demons out in the distance preparing to fire their demonic arrows. Another flash of lighting went off and two shadowy figures secretly left Miko's shadow to deal with the outside threat. Miko had an amusing expression after watching Vergil not die from an attack that would have killed a normal person.

"What's this? That's not the look of a human. Could he be.." Miko wondered

A few Thunderhelm Lawachurl came to Lumine side.

"Kill him." Lumine commanded the Thunderhelm Lawachurl.

Vergil pulls out the scythes and drops them on the side. Sara attempts to get up and help Vergil but Miko stops her.

"I can still fight." Sara looks at Miko.

"It's best not to aggravate your injury." Miko advised.

Sara frustrated and looks at Vergil as he is about to engage the enemy.

"Who is this man? He is definitely not human after taking those killing blows." Sara wondered as she watched Vergil.

Vergil activates Beowulf as he takes his stance and the three Electro Hilicruls charge in.

*Beowulf DMC3 Ost Cue*

The three Thunderhelm Lawachurl come running in and Vergil dashes with electro in front of one. One Lawachurl swings some punches at Vergil. Vergil backflips then dives in with a kick. The second Lawachurl approaches Vergil from behind and is ready to smash Vergil. Vergil cock his leg and back kicks the Lawachurl into the air. Vergil warps behind the Lawachurl and kicks it back down to the ground. The third one attempts to attack Shogun, Miko, and Sara despite not being involved in the fight. Vergil appears in front with his fist already cock back. (Real Impact)

*Pow SFX*

A massive blow to the Lawachurl muscular gut. Vergil unleashes a barrage of kicks (Kick 13) followed by more kicks that launch the Lawachurl into the air. (Rising Sun). He followed up with a couple of kicks before smacking the Lawachurl to the ground.

"He is quite efficient in hand-to-hand combat. This could prove useful in the future." Shogun observed Vergil.

Vergil lands on the ground and Lawachurl gets up and beats its chest. The Lawachurl grabs a piece of the large section of the ground and tosses it at Vergil. Vergil's fist lights up and he shoots the large chunk of rock. At the same time, the Lawachurl rushes in with electro surrounding its body. Vergil backstepped enough to be outside its reach then countered with an explosive straight punch that had the Lawachurl staggering a bit and Vergil followed up with a explosive uppercut (Rising Dragon) that lifted them both off the ground and chunks of the ground came up. Vergil finish with circular kicks that sent it to the ground (Lunar Phase air)

"Good night."

Vergil heads over to Shogun, Miko and Sara.

"Are we done here?" Vergil asked Shogun.

"Yes. There has been a small change of plan." Shogun replied.

"This inconvenience matters not." Vergil replied.

Shogun looks over at Lumine and the others on the opposite side.

"I'm taking her with me." Shogun tells Lumine.

"You think I'll let you just walk away." Lumine smirks.

"That's exactly what I'm doing." Shogun replied.

"I'm afraid I can't let you do that." ?

*Contemplation on Eternity Genshin Impact ost cue*

More soldiers showed up and made a path for a person in a black and purple kimono to walk through along with several Fatui soldiers. Another person followed behind her wearing a black and yellow kimono, Kuromi and Ibaraki. Vergil expression hasn't changed however Shogun was a bit troubled along with Miko. Ei switched with Shogun for a moment secretly after sensing a familiar presence.

"Makoto? But.. that's impossible." Ei is shocked and in disbelief.

Ei had a flashback of that moment when she lost her sister Makoto. Till this day Ei has never forgotten what she lost that day centuries ago.

"You manage to escape from captivity? Hmm, I doubt you could have done it alone given the states you were in but it matters not, given your current condition." Kuromi not bothered that Shogun and Miko somehow escape.

"Kitsune Saiguu-sama and … that's not possible." Miko was a bit shaken by the appearance of two people she wasn't expecting to see ever again.

Ei and Miko were in such a trance Vergil had snapped them out of it.

*Bonk SFX x 2*

"Eh?" Miko comes back to her senses.

"Ah!" Ei also coming back to her senses.

"This is no time to daydream." Vergil points out looking at both of them.

"Did you just bonk a maiden on the head?" Miko in shock.

"My sincere apologies, you were in such a trance I had no other way to snap you out of it. Besides that was nothing compared to your method." Vergil replied with a stern expression.

"Is that how you treat someone who saves your life?" Miko trying to keep her composure.

"Are referring to being struck by lightning or the electrocution?" Vergil ask.

"Miko, you struck him with lighting?" Ei in shock.

"So what if I did, did you die from it? That amount should have tickled." Miko stared at Vergil.

"They sure get along well. What exactly is Lady Guuji and this mans relation?" Sara thought to herself.

Miko and Vergil stared each other down before Miko calmed down.

*Exhale of relief.* "I'll admit this beyond my expectations," Miko admits.

*Giggles* "You should see the expression on your face. Quite amusing I'd say. I'm Nariko." Nariko smirks at them while introducing herself.

Nariko- The Usurper. The one that commands thunder and lightning.

Vergil looks at Shogun and Miko and then at the demons that look like Saiguu and Ei.

*Flashback*

Kamisato Estate

"Before we go, there is one other thing I need you to know about. I didn't want anyone else to hear about this." Ayato briefly tells Vergil.

"What could that be?" Vergil asked.

"The day demons came into the city, one of them appeared as the Raiden Shogun." Ayato disclosed this to Vergil.

"There are two Raiden Shoguns?" Vergil asked Ayato.

"That I'm uncertain about. I've only known there to be one for as long as I can remember, but the fact is that Raiden Shogun appeared with the demons who attack them would create a mass confusion with the people and those who work in the Tri-Commission. I dare say that this would even put the Shogun we know in a very tough spot given the situation. Which is why I was a bit troubled for a moment when I saw her with you."

"Trouble about what?" Vergil asked.

"Well, she was defeated and taken away then came back with the one who attacked us. Most people would be troubled and confused about the sudden demon attack. The ones who attack will more than likely come to finish what they started or worse. I wish to prevent that from happening. I'd like you to take the Shogun and protect her while she recovers." Ayato explained.

"What?" Vergil was in disbelief that Ayato would ask him this.

"You manage to do what no one else could do. She is safer with you. I know that's a bit much to ask but at least think about it." Ayato points out.

"Surely there is a much better option?"

"Afraid not, you just so happen to be the better option." Ayato stated.

"I disagree."

"I know but just give it some thought. Time is very short as the demons will be back. I would be more at ease knowing she is safe with you elsewhere than being hunted around here where they do whatever it takes to find her."

Vergil would think about this idea that Ayato came up with.

"When something is important enough to you, you will defend it even if the odds are not in your favor. I'm betting on you."

Vergil looked at Ayato for a bit before he took off.

"I'll see you soon." Ayato takes his leave.

End Flashback

Present

Vergil recalls seeing the two separate Shogun's before he fought and defeated the Nightmare within Shogun and Miko along with Saiguu.

"So there must have been two at one point in time and something happened. This thing doesn't strike me as the one I saw inside the Nightmare. Nonetheless, she is a demon." Vergil speculated.

Shogun, Miko, and Sara looked at the weapons that the Fatui soldiers were armed with.

"The weapons they carry I've never seen before." Sara notice

Vergil and Nariko stare each other down.

"Admiring your handy work?" Vergil asked Nariko.

"Touring the lands, gravely accessing the devastation, upstanding Shogunate stuff." Nariko calmly replied.

"You're not the Shogun." Vergil points out.

"Things change." Nariko smiled.

"What do you want?" Vergil getting to the point.

"Ah, the direct approach, I can admire that from a man siding with trash." Nariko giggles.

Vergil just stared at her.

"You don't really think you'll win do you?" Nariko's face went stern and tone went cold.

"Things change." Vergil replied with a small smirk.

"Tell me, why would a demon like you side with useless scum like them?" Makoto asked Vergil.

*Thunder SFX*

Shogun, Miko, and Sara looked at Vergil, after hearing the news of him also being a demon. Vergil didn't say anything but looked back at Shogun, Miko and Sara for a brief moment.

"I'm sure they will have alot of questions after this." Vergil thought to himself while preparing for what comes after this moment.

"Ara, Ara, so he's a demon. How interesting and usual at the same time. We will most certainly have a chat about this Vergil." Miko very curious about this news.

"So he is a demon too. That would explain some things but now I have even more questions for him than answers." Shogun processes the news.

"So he is one of them but something about this doesn't add up." Sara thought to herself while looking around.

"I have no qualms with you, however, if you stand in my way I will eliminate you. This is your only warning." Vergil ending the conversation.

"My, my such big talk from a foul-scented creature." Nariko smirks.

"We're leaving." Vergil tells Shogun, Miko, and Sara while heading towards them.

"I think not." Nariko plans to stop them.

Lighting strikes the surrounding area and surrounds the area with fire. Sara manages to get back on her feet while holding her shoulder.

"Why not stay and talk a little more before you hand over those three? They don't mean anything to you since you are a demon." Nariko calmly stated while giggling.

Shogun, Miko, and Sara observe Vergil and wait for his next response.

"Fine. I suppose this is how you wish to die." Vergil cracked with electro and removed his cloak.

More demons, Fatui soldiers, and Hilicurls show up in the area. The demons seem agitated.

"Kill him. Kill him. Kill the traitor." The demons keep repeating.

Shogun and Miko noticed this behavior with the demons and then looked at Vergil from behind. Vergil was not bothered by it.

"There is something more to him. Whatever it is, it's enough to aggravate the demons at least." Shogun noted.

"Vergil, you've got some explaining to do. The demon seems determined to take your life for some reason." Miko noted.

"Now, if you be so kind as to hand them over and die like the foul and treacherous demon you are." Nariko extends her hand while smirking.

"If you want them, then you'll have to take them but you already knew that." Vergil declares while turning around.

Hearing Vergil make a bold statement like the one brought reassurance to Shogun and Miko even against these odds. It was to the point they turned their heads to the side a little.

"More demons and Hilicurls showed up!" Sara looked around.

"Yes, quite troublesome." Miko looked to the side with her arms crossed and one hand covering her mouth.

"Ara, Vergil, you should be mindful of the things you say. Someone could end up misinterpreting it. Although, that was pretty bold of him to say that in this situation. Don't stop amusing me now." Miko turned her head to the side for a moment then looked at Vergil from behind.

Miko found it a bit hilarious and couldn't help but make a little laugh. Miko approaches Vergil's side.

"I'm amazed you can say some entertaining things even in this kind of situation." Miko smiles at Vergil.

"I don't recall saying such a thing." Vergil looked at Miko then forward at Nariko.

"They plan to overwhelm us." Shogun's arms crossed and looked in the opposite direction.

"What was with that statement he made and why do I have this strange feeling? Is this another malfunction?" Shogun trying to process what Vergil said.

Shogun also approached Vergil's side.

"I'm certain she stopped at nothing to prevent us from fleeing to recapture us." Shogun looks at Vergil.

"She may test that at her discretion." Vergil replied while still looking forward.

"Heh. I had a feeling you say that. You are outnumbered with no hope of escape. Don't tell me you plan to resist against these odds?"

Vergil looks around and then back at Nariko.

"You should have brought more." Vergil stated.

Miko couldn't help but make a small laugh.

"Miko, what is so funny about our situation?" Shogun asked.

"This is worse than our previous situation." Miko stated.

"Your sense of humor is strange as always." Shogun commented.

"Shogun, he wasn't joking with that statement." Miko gave a small smirk.

Shogun turns towards Vergil.

"Take them." Nariko commanded.

Vergil raised his sword and extended his thumb to draw Yamato.

*Bury the Light instrumental DMC5 SE OST cue*

"Is it wise to provoke them?" Shogun asked Vergil.

"Well, there is a lot more-" before Miko could finish a bullet was just about hit but Vergil casually swapped it.

Several Pyroslingers aimed their rifles at them.

"That's the guy that took out my team!" Pyroslinger points out.

"We won't let him off so easily." another Pryoslinger stated.

"Ara, what a rude bunch. Seems like you had a run in them while you were away." Miko move behind Vergil

Shogun and Sara moved behind Vergil just in time before Fatui fired at them. Vergil rotates his sword in a circular motion to create a vortex to catch all the bullets. Shogun, Miko, and Sara were in disbelief after watching such a feat. After they finished firing, they quickly began to reload. Shogun used a little bit of her power to lift one of the bullets and examine it along with Miko.

"This object seems to travel faster than an arrow." Miko made note of the bullet.

Miko tapped the bullet and put a little electro on it. Shogun points towards Nariko and shoots the same time Vergil lines up the bullets.

"Scum." Vergil smacks the bullets back at the Fatui soldiers and hits them in the head, instantly killing them. Shogun launches the bullet at Nariko.

Nariko casually redirects the bullet and sneers at Shogun.

"Weak." Nariko mocks Shogun.

Miko summons one of her Sesshou Sakura. Summoning one took a toll on Miko. Vergil took notice.

"What? I know we're not in the most favorable position but I'll do what I can in my current state." Miko tells Vergil.

"I agree with her. If we are to make it out of this, we will need to put in the effort." Shogun added.

Shogun waved her hand in a horizontal line and an Electro symbol appeared over Vergil's head.(Elemental skill Baleful Omen)

Vergil briefly looks up at the symbol as it shoots nearby demons Vergil at Shogun and Miko.

"They choose to fight, despite their current condition?" Vergil thought about Shogun and Mikos's actions.

The soldiers that Sara shot earlier were rattling violently. They were actually demons and moved in to attack them. Vergil swings his sword so fast at the area in front of them it look like they were frozen in time (Void Slash)

*Void Slash SFX*

"Pathetic." Vergil sheaths his sword.

A demon leaps over Shogun, Miko and Sara attack Vergil. The demon's blade only hits the ground while. Vergil Air Tricks pass the demons with his sword partial sheath.

*Vergil Exhale*

*Gii-Shin*

After Vergil sheaths his sword the demon drops dead. The other demons turned around and sounded confused. Shogun and Sara's eyes were heavily focused on Vergil. Vergil Air Tricks in and cuts down two demons. *Slow Motion SFX* One demon attempt cuts down Vergil from head to toe but dodges it effortlessly and then smacks it away. Another demon prepares to attack, Vergil blocks the attack then follows up sweeping them off its feet while his sword is still sheath. Vergil draws his sword and cuts the demon in half he just swept and moved to the next demon. He cuts the demon's weapon in half with one swing then cuts that demon in half, blood shoots out the demon's lower half.

Sara tries to watch Vergil's movement with her eyes but she can barely keep up.

"How is this possible?" Sara wondered.

Shogun watches Vergil slay the demons in a stylish manner that she doesn't take her eyes off him. Every move had a purpose and meaning. Shogun's eyes slightly rattled as she saw blood droplets pass Vergil after he slayed a demon. Another demon approaches him and Vergil uses his sword to tap the ground with enough force that the demon bounces off the ground and its whole body rotates clockwise with its head about to touch at the same time Vergil's sword cut the demon in half. More demons were coming at them from the ground and air.

Vergil does a backflip and mid-way through spirals down (something like raining bullets) to the ground and Yamato is thrown with such force it was like a boomerang killing all demons in the air. Vergil lands and catches Yamato. Blood was raining down and his hair was now down. More demons appear in front of Vergil, Shogun, Miko, and Sara.

Vergil runs through and cuts them up (Rapid Slash) their bodies slide off and blood shoots out. Vergil slashes the blood off his sword and stylishly sheaths his sword behind his back.

*Crazy*

"That is unbelievable." Sara was amazed by Vergil's swordsmanship.

Shogun and Miko continue to observe Vergil.

"There is no wasted movement in his attacks even in his current condition." Shogun observed his swordsmanship.

Lumine comes charging in with her sword dragging on the ground, creating sparks. Vergil casually pushes his hair back.

*Clang*Clash*Clang*Clash*Clang*Clash*Clang*Clash*Clang*

Lumine with two hands on her sword hit's Vergil sword upward and then prepares to thrust her sword. Vergil lets go of Yamato and switches to a reverse grip and thrusts the hilt in her gut, sending her flying back into a nearby tree. Lumine extended her arms and fired off electro electro-looking sphere at Vergil. Vergil summons his swords and counters the incoming attack. At the same time, Lumine came charging with her sword infused with electro. Vergil parries the attack which leaves her wide open. Vergil Tricks Up into the air readying his sword then Trick Down delivers a clean hit that pushes Lumine back. (Aerial Cleve) Lumine uses her sword to break her fall while she is down on one knee. Lumine slowly gets back up. Lumine, irritated with Vergil, infused her sword with electro-elemental power. Lumine charges in at Vergil with the speed of lightning. The two bounce around the area once again using electro.

*Clang*Clash*Clang*Clash*Clang*Clash*Clang*Clash*Clang*

Vergil pushes Lumine off and a few Hell Cana come at Vergil. Vergil smacks them away and Yamato has a dark glow to it. Vergil turns towards the demon, draws Yamato, and cleaves the demon in half. (Yamato Combo B) Vergil began to sheath Yamato until the other two came at Vergil.

*PJC SFX*

"Fall scum!"

Vergil cuts them to pieces and Lumine aims to ambush Vergil with her sword infused with Electro energy but her attack is stopped.

*Clang*

The two swords clash and Lumine sees the strange power from Yamato.

"That sword and that power." Lumine made a notice.

Vergil, not saying anything, trips her with his sheath and smacks her, sending her flying. Lumine a few times before she breaks her fall.

Vergil takes his Iaido stance while standing. Lumine decided to turn things up and use her Abyssal power.

Shogun made note that power was not elemental. Lumine swings her sword at Vergil releasing a wave of Abyssal energy and an explosion goes off in the area. The dust and debris settle down. Lumine holding her sword to the side with the Abyssal power glowing. She looks ahead and sees Vergil survive that attack. Lumine points her sword at Vergil and dashes in.

"This may be fun." Vergil comments with a stern expression.

Just as Vergil and Lumine were about to deliver their next attack until a large barrage of thunderbolts dropped between the two of them. *Slow Motion and Heartbeat SFX * At The same time, Shogun and Miko look towards the sky and see several thunderbolts heading straight for them. They knew they wouldn't be able to react in time with their current condition.*End Slow Motion and Heartbeat SFX* The thunderbolts came down in the area and the flames caused a bigger explosion blasting everyone in the area.

Lumine flies backward and is landed by Nariko. Flames and smoke covered the area where the barrage of lightning struck. Shogun opened her eyes and was amazed that she was still alive while inside a blue sphere-type barrier.

"Looks like we made it somehow." Miko points.

Shogun turns her head and sees Vergil and Miko was on his back holding onto his shoulders and looking down at Shogun.

"Vergil? Miko?" Shogun sounded confused.

"Ara, Ara, aren't you a lucky one." Miko tease Shogun

"What are you talking about?" Shogun not sure what Miko was talking about.

She looks down and notices she is being princess-carried. Shogun turned a little red but kept her cool while she looked up and saw Vergil looking out.

"Where is Sara?" Shogun asked.

"I'm here, Your Excellency." Sara answered.

Shogun looks down and sees Sara on her back.

"I thought I was dead for sure." Sara relief.

The blue barrier slowly disappeared and the smoke was slowly clearing up.

"Mind putting me down?" Shogun asked while hitting Vergil in the chest to get his attention.

Miko hops off Vergil's back while he sets Shogun down.

"So how was it?" Miko asked Shogun.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. We were nearly obliterated." Shogun crosses arms and maintains her composure.

"Oh is that so?" Miko does not believe Shogun.

Shogun opens one eye and looks at Vergil.

"For him to cover that distance, for a moment I didn't sense the use of elemental energy. He can't be just any demon." Shogun thought to herself while she continued to observe Vergil.

They were a little sizzle on everyone but nothing too serious. Lumine was about to go again.

"Looks like my sneak attack failed to hit its mark this time. We are leaving for now and let them handle the rest. After all, we have this whole island is a battlefield." Nariko smirks while looking at Lumine.

"Why did you get in my way?" Lumine asked Nariko.

"You shouldn't waste that power on the likes of him. Still, for him to push you that far. Worry not as she is right now, she is no threat to us and can't do anything." Nariko looks over at Vergil and the other.

Nariko, Kuromi, and Lumine take their leave and more demons come in.

"Ibaraki, I need you to stall them for a bit." Nariko commanded Ibaraki

"What are you up to now?" Ibaraki asked.

"You'll see very soon. Calling in more friends." Nariko answered with a small evil smirk.

"Well, we wouldn't want them to miss out. I'll give a little head start after and deal with him after he is worn out from our forces." Ibaraki takes off and leaps through the trees.

The fire was still going on, Vergil and Lumine stared each other down. Lumine is upset that she wasn't able to finish off Shogun or Vergil. She leave the area by opening an Abyssal portal. In a flash, Nariko, Lumine and Kuromi were gone.

"I've got a bad feeling about this." Sara thought after watching Nariko and her group leave.

The demons and hilicurls kept coming. Miko and Shogun were reaching their limit in maintaining the Sakura turret that was firing off more lighting. Berserker demons were running toward Miko and Shogun from opposite sides. The same time Vergil just cut a Hilicurl in half from the shoulder to the lower torso. Two more Hilicurls were running towards Vergil.

*PJC SFX x 3*

"Down you go!"

Vergil cuts down the two Hilicurls. At the same time a Doppelganger appears in front of Miko and Judgement Cuts the Berserker. Another one appears in front of Shogun and Judgment Cuts that Berserker as well. Miko and Shogun over at Vergil.

*Badass*

"He was able to attack from that distance." Shogun surprise.

"You're just full of surprises, Vergil." Miko thought to herself.

"They just keep coming." Sara looks around.

Vergil dashes multiple times (Rapid Slash) and cuts through the demons and Hilicurls in different directions while Yamato was crackling with electro. Shogun, Miko, and Sara saw Vergil glow a little with electro energy and Yamato was also glowing. Vergil took his Iai stance and a strong gust of wind came from him.

"You will not forget this devil's power." Vergil declares in a cold demonic tone.

Judgment Cut End*( Something like Count Thunder version DMC POC)

Vergil disappeared in a flash of lighting and lighting appeared in multiple directions all at once. Once he reappears in front of Shogun, Miko and Sara, he slams Yamato in its sheath and multiple thunderbolts go off, hitting the demons and setting them on fire.

*Smoking Sexy Style*

Once, Vergil finished off the last of their attackers. Shogun, Miko and Sara look around at all the burning corpses and then at Vergil. Vergil turns and walks off with Shogun, Miko and Sara while disappearing into the fire area. The same time he raises his arm and retrieves his cloak.

Tenshukaku

Nariko approached the large black object as it was glowing a crimson color. Nariko smirks as she looks at the object.

"Don't think I'll make it that easy for you." Nariko stated.

Kuromi approaches the object as well and just smirks. Lumine had her arms crossed thinking about the recent encounter.

Hope you enjoyed the chapter. A few things I wanted to clarify or explain a few things in case there was some confusion. The talk with Ei and Shogun, that was simply them not knowing who was it that saved them and who would accompany them given the current situation. Shogun simply being cautious and wasn't completely wrong. The amulate, there was a similar interaction when Mundas gave Nelo Angelo the amulet, he began a little more obedient to Mundas. I wanted this to be simular but in a more positive way. Now Monstadt, things are about to get really interesting.

"You will not forget this devils power."
