The Matters of Rooftops.
By: M14Mouse
Summary: Midoriya and crew meet an old man and decided to adopt him. Of course, he really has no choice in the matter.
Disclaimer: Don't own them.
Torino was an old man.
He has more dead friends than living ones.
A hero…barely one. He only did it as a favor.
Then how in the hell did these kids come into his life…
Okay, he knew how it happened. It might have been his fault…slightly.
"I met All Might on a roof like this," Midoriya said as he took a seat on the ledge of the roof. He wiped the sweat from forehead.
"What did the oaf say this time?" He said as he took a seat on the ledge next to him. The view was nice.
"You know All Might?!" Midoriya said in shock.
"Of course, I know the idiot. I trained him."
The oaf probably said something stupid. He might have to kick some sense into him. Sometimes, the man had zero filter especially when he is hurt. He was treated to more unfiltered thoughts during their training sessions. It was almost funny, at least to him.
"You trained All Might?!"
He gave the kid a look that clearly said that I just said that.
Midoriya's face turned thoughtful.
"You probably trained him in speed and ability to handle his quirk. You have amazing quirk control!"
Well…crap. He almost figured it out with that big brain of his. He shouldn't be surprised. The kid spent a good thirty minutes figuring out his quirk.
It was…slightly disconnecting to hear about his feet and leg bones and muscles.
"I don't believe you because you barely know how to use your microwave! Tsuchan said that she had to show you!" The Mineta kid said as he joined their little conversation.
Literally because he finally caught up to them on the roof.
"I can too!" He grumbled.
The frog girl was nice enough to pre-program the setting on the microwave for the perfect taiyaki.
She was his favorite.
"You burn your taiyaki!"
"I want it a little crispy."
"Kojichan said that his birds wouldn't even eat it."
He snorted.
"When did you get so mouthy, boy?" Gran mumbled to him.
"When you tried to kill me?" Mineta said.
"I wasn't trying to kill you, kid."
"You were hanging me upside down from a roof."
"You threw your damn rubber knives at me."
Mineta huffed.
"That was Midoriya!"
He shrugged.
"What about those balls on your head?" He said.
"You were chasing me!"
"You were jumping on my roof!"
"I wasn't on your roof!" Mineta said as he folded his arms across his chest. This kid tended to get a little huff especially when he got caught or nervous…kind of Midoriya.
No wonder they were best friends.
"Close enough," He grumbled softly.
"We were two roofs over," Midoriya pointed out.
"I was making sure that you kids wouldn't get into trouble."
"You were curious," Midoriya pointed out again.
His eyes narrowed at him. Midoriya grinned as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Blah…lies," He grumbled.
"It's true. Why don't you just say it?" Tsu said as she appeared in view.
Rather her tongue as she landed next to the group.
He gave her a look but the girl wasn't fazed by it.
"That would mean that he says that he likes us but…old man won't do that," Mineta added.
"You kids are nothing but trouble," He said.
Yes, they were. They came into his life like a bolt of lightning with rubber knives, sticky balls for hair, frog tongue and pigeon poop. All defending one of their friends who he decided to chase down.
"Midochan is." Tsu said.
"I am not!" Midoriya said.
"You are," Kouji added as he finally joined the group. Took the kid long enough. Must have gotten sidetracked talking to an animal somewhere. All of his pigeon minions were gathering around them as well.
Great…bird poop.
"You figured out how to make a homemade smoke screen because you saw a hero fight and you wanted to know how it was done," Mineta added.
"According to your mom…you covered the entire park with the stuff," Tsu said.
Midoriya looked a little sheepish.
"I might have made too much," Midoriya said.
"Torino-san…I found a copy," Kouji said softly as he handed him a copy of a cd.
He grinned.
"Thanks, kid."
"What is the cd?" Midoriya asked.
"Rob Zombie!" Kouji said.
"What?!"
He hummed softly as he listened to the conversation around him.
After he let go of Mineta….the kids explaining well…everything, he let the kid go and he thought that they were done. The kids will be kids and they will never come back.
Boy, he was wrong.
The kids came back the next week and somehow or another became involved in his everyday life.
Kouji with his love for animals…followed by his love of music. His animal friends had a large range of tastes from classical to heavy metal. They debate the classics. Which one was better: Pre-Quirk (what was left of it) or Post-Quirk music? They shared their favorites. They shared their dislikes.
Overall, the kid had good tastes.
With Tsu, it is sharing a sense of practicality and knowledge. She taught him about his microwave and other stupid techno crap with way too many buttons. He shared the best ways to get mud stains out of clothes and white vinegar solves all cleaning problems. Slowly, they shared their histories.
With Mineta…
He chuckled. The kid spoke his mind…not always in a good way but it is refreshing to hear. He loved a good debate. A lot of people tried to dull the blade…sort of speak. They don't want to hurt the old man's feelings like life hasn't hurt them already. He was a little cynical and a little crass, but he had a good heart especially when it came to his friends.
Now…Midoriya.
Smart…kind…curious…. determined. Just like a big oaf he knew. He cares. He cares so damn much that it reminds him of Nana. He is always helping. It doesn't matter if it is friends or a damn stranger with their groceries. It shows. He gathered people around him like Tsu said, like an army.
He coughed.
Friends.
The kid doesn't need a quirk. He has three…hell if you included him, four. All of them are willing to fight with him. Not to say so.
Because he is their friend.
The kid isn't done yet.
Next few years will be interesting.
Maybe he should warn Yagi.
…..
…..
Nah.
