A/N 1: And we are back, ladies and gentlemen! How are you all doing today? Okay, so, at the time of writing this chapter, I know that I said I wasn't going to update any of my stories until this whole email notification thing on the site was finally fixed, but considering that this story is a belated birthday present for my friend Dreams Come True 996, I decided to finish up this story for her. Now, when we last saw our favorite halfa, he had just met a lovely young lady when he flew all the way to Japan. What sort of craziness will he have to deal with now that he's met the NWC? Let's find out!
A/N 2: Also, don't expect me to be giving Danny multiple girlfriends in this story. This story is a SINGLE PAIRING STORY, so please don't ask me to give Danny additional girlfriends! With that out of the way, let's dive into the new chapter.
Disclaimer: I still don't own Danny Phantom or Ranma ½!
Confrontations and a Japanese Home
Third Person POV.
Back in Amity Park things were a little tense in the Fenton Family home. And for good reason. Jack, Maddie and Jazz had read Danny's ten page letter to them explaining his situation while airing his grievances and suffice to say, they were more than understanding of why he needed to get away for a little while. Although Jack and Maddie were still understandably upset that he chose to leave without saying goodbye in person, while Jazz was a little more understanding. However, Danny leaving so abruptly was not the reason that things were tense in that household.
They had actually called a meeting with Sam and Tucker to discuss some of the things that were mentioned in Danny's letter. Fortunately for Tucker, his schedule as mayor was clear that day, so he was able to make it to the meeting unimpeded. But he soon wished that wasn't the case.
'Great, just great, I was getting ready to spend my day off at home eating junk food and playing DOOM on my new PlayStation, but now? That's exactly how I feel! Absolutely doomed! And I don't even know what I did wrong!' Tucker internally ranted.
"Thank you both for coming over on such short notice. And Tucker? We're sorry to call you to a meeting on your day off like this." Maddie said as she sat across from the two teenagers.
"It's alright, Mrs. Fenton. I'm sure that whatever this meeting is about, it's very important." Tucker replied.
"Oh, it's important alright." Jack said in a rare moment of complete seriousness. "Let's start by addressing the elephant in the room."
All eyes shifted towards Sam who simply crossed her arms and looked away, unwilling to admit to any fault in the current situation.
"Sam, in Danny's letter he mentioned how you decided to break up with him due to a myriad of unfortunate circumstances regarding you two's relationship." Maddie began.
The goth girl merely scoffed and said, "What's there to talk about? We tried dating, but it didn't work out because the press kept hounding us and the ghosts couldn't buzz off for longer than ten minutes at a time, so we broke it off. It's as simple as that.".
"Not according to this, it's not." said Jack as he placed something on the coffee table.
Sam looked down to see a stapled stack of paper and raised an eyebrow.
"What is that?" she asked.
"A long and very well written letter from our son explaining everything. And airing his grievances about pretty much everything." Jack replied. "And it tells us quite a bit about how much toxicity was in your relationship. If you could even have called it one."
Sam looked offended by that statement. In her eyes, there hadn't been any toxicity in their relationship, and even if there was, she, in her mind, certainly wasn't the cause of it. She grabbed the letter and started reading through it. The parts about her and Danny's relationship had been highlighted by her former boyfriend's parents.
Forcing Danny to wear all black more often than his own clothes, attempting to force him to become an ultra recyclo vegetarian(*COUGH, COUGH* vegan*COUGH*) just like she is, and trying to blackmail him into using his powers in ways that would, in her view, help animals and the planet. Oh, and let's not forget being super controlling of Danny and who he interacted with, especially if it was a woman who wasn't his mother or sister. And that was just a few of the things she did that made their relationship so toxic! After a few minutes, Sam scoffed and set down the letter.
"I don't see what the problem is. I did nothing wrong." Sam said in denial.
"Don't try to play innocent, Samantha!" exclaimed Jazz who was fed up with Sam's attitude.
'Ooh, real name. Not good.' Tucker thought with a grimace.
Jazz continued her rant and metaphorically tore into Sam as she said, "You're like this with everyone around you! You claim to not be like the A-Listers at school and trying to help Danny, but that can't be further from the truth! Help, my ass! All you do is cause problems with your over-the-top ideas and stubborn pride, and at this point I'm sure that if Danny could have traded you for a REAL friend, he would have done it a long time ago!".
Sam made little squeaky whimpers as she glared at Jazz before leaping across the couch and engaging in a cat fight with the oldest Fenton child.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT!" screeched Sam.
Right before Jazz wrestled her way out of the goth girl's grip and started pulling on her face, drawing a pained yelp from the girl as they tumbled to the floor.
"AOWCH! Shtahp pulling ohn mah csheeksh!" Sam demanded as Jazz continued to pull on the girl's face.
Jack couldn't help but quietly groan as he said, "This didn't go according to plan.".
"No. No, it didn't." Maddie added as she looked on at the fight, mentally cheering her daughter on.
Tucker looked at Jack and asked, "So, um, where did Danny go after he left Amity Park?".
"He left North America and flew East towards Japan. His letter said something about getting away from all of the stress and experiencing foreign cultures from his own point of view." Jack replied.
Fortunately for them, Sam was too preoccupied to have heard them.
"I just hope that he's having an easier time than we are right now." Jack commented as he saw the fight between his daughter and Sam getting worse.
"You and me both, Mister Fenton." Tucker added.
Danny's POV.
"So, this is where you live?"
Kasumi and I had just arrived at her home in the Nerima District. It was a traditional style Japanese home and looked modest enough. To be honest, I kind of expected Kasumi and her family to live in a more modernized house rather than something like this, but I can appreciate the old-fashioned architecture. It's certainly better than my house, since it's literally just a brick tower with a huge sign that reads "Fenton Works". And it doesn't have what might as well be a U.F.O. on the roof like my house does.
Kasumi nodded and replied, "It sure is. My family has lived in this house for as long as I can remember. We actually own our own martial arts dojo, but my father hasn't taught any students in a very long time. Not since our mother passed away.".
I could tell that this is a very touchy subject for her, so I didn't pry. Carrying Kasumi's groceries, I followed her up the steps and when we entered through the front door, I removed my shoes as per what I assumed to be Japanese custom. I could be stereotyping, but from Kasumi's smile I guess I was doing something right.
"Taidama!~" she called.
"Hey, welcome home, Sis!" called a voice from what Danny assumed to be the living room.
A voice that belonged to one of Kasumi's sisters.
Third Person POV.
As they walked into the room, they came across a young woman who looked a little bit younger than Kasumi, probably by a few years, sitting in the living room looking over some forms. She has fair skin, brown eyes, and straight brown hair that was in a pageboy haircut. She was wearing a sleeveless green shirt tucked into a pair of white shorts.
Seeing Danny, the girl asked, "Who's this with you? I've never seen him around Nerima before.".
To which Kasumi replied, "This is Daniel, but he prefers to be called Danny. He's from the United States and took a last-minute trip here to our home country. Unfortunately, he didn't have the time to book any lodgings for himself, so I offered to let him spend the night so he could find a hotel to stay at in the morning.".
"Hm. Always the generous one, aren't you, sis? You know, one of these days someone's going to take advantage of that generosity, right?" Kasumi's sister asked before shrugging and saying, "Well, whatever. Welcome to the Tendo home, Daniel-San. My name's Nabiki, and I'm the middle child between me and my sisters."
Danny bowed back and said, "Hello, Nabiki-San. My name's Daniel, but Kasumi already said that. But just call me Danny, since that's what almost everyone else calls me.".
"You seem to be a little bit familiar with our culture, it seems." Nabiki commented.
"I actually studied up on several different foreign cultures and languages back home. And Japanese is one of them." Danny explained.
Nabiki just nodded as Kasumi said, "Make yourself at home, Danny-Kun. I'll get dinner started.".
"Do you need any help?" Danny asked.
"Oh my, I couldn't possibly ask you to help! You are a guest in our home." Kasumi said, trying to turn down his offer to help.
Clearly, she was used to doing everything herself. But Danny wasn't having it.
"Please, I insist. If I'm going to be staying here, even if it's just for the night, I'd like to help out in any way that I can." Danny said.
Kasumi sighed as she saw that there would be no stopping Danny from helping her cook. Inwardly, though, she was truly grateful for his choosing to help her. Ever since her and her sisters' mother died, and their father became withdrawn from the world she had to take it upon herself to take care of all of the chores and meal preparations in the house. She had resigned herself to a life of forever taking care of her family while Nabiki took care of the family's financial needs. Her youngest sister, Akane, tried to help out where she could, but unfortunately… the youngest Tendo daughter had no domestic skills to speak of. She just broke everything whenever she tried to clean, and any food she prepared could only be described as a bioweapon!
She swears that she saw one of the meals Akane had prepared move… and maybe breathe…
Kasumi had tried to give her little sister lessons on these things, but either Akane had selective hearing, or she was just too impatient to listen because all of her instructions seemed to just go in one ear and out the other! Akane would misread labels, use the wrong ingredients, and use too much or not enough of certain ingredients. She was also too prideful to accept criticism from anyone about her cooking, believing it to be perfect even though she never took the time to taste it herself.
Heck, one time, Kasumi had tasked Akane with boiling some water for eggs so she could make omurice, and Akane had SOMEHOW managed to set the water on fire!
She's still not sure how that happened. Akane didn't mix up the water with cooking oil, and Kasumi would know since she had filled the pot with water herself.
But yeah, it got so bad that Kasumi had to ban Akane from the kitchen herself!
The sight of so many destroyed pots and pans and even the stove having to be replaced was enough to realize that unless her younger sister went through a serious attitude adjustment, she was a lost cause when it comes to learning how to cook.
She and Danny put on aprons and got to work, with Kasumi knowing that the rest of her family, along with their other three guests, would be returning soon and would no doubt be hungry when they arrived.
***...To Be Continued…***
Ending A/N: And so, that's the new chapter for you all! I hope you like this chapter, Dreams! Sorry it's not as long as I would have liked it, but I honestly didn't get too many opportunities to write, and at the same time, I couldn't come up with any additional dialogue for the chapter. Something tells me that this story is gonna take more than three chapters to complete. But I'll definitely complete this story, that's a promise! Thank you so much for reading, and I'll see you later, my hatchlings!
