I took the Moon Prince for a walk around the forest and the lake, and we chatted a lot. I knew much about Serenity's life on the Moon and his sisters, and to be honest, I cannot wait to see them. Imagine how lovely it would be if I and Princess Mercury could exchange reflections about the books we read, and if Princess Venus could teach me how to use a sword!
Then he asked me something that makes me think deeper. "Have you been living in this forest since you were born?"
This question has invoked memories of me, a princess, being sent to the middle of the forest and to live a forest commoner's life just to avoid Maleficent finding me. Normally, I would not have told the true story if I met a random man. He might be an agent of Maleficent, no matter how just and good he might appear to be. I'd just tell him that I am just a commoner, born in the forest to a pair of woodcutters.
But... this boy is quite young and innocent, and on top of that, he is a genuine Lunarian prince, as previously I sensed with my magic. I think he deserves to be told the story.
"I would not have told the true story to anyone else, but seeing that you are the Prince of the Moon, I feel more comfortable speaking it out to you."
He gave me the sweetest smile ever. "I am always listening."
"I should tell you, Serenity. You are right about me being as beautiful and as confident as a princess. That is because... I am actually a princess."
Upon hearing this revelation, Serenity's eyes lit up.
I then turned a bit sad, remembering the reason why I was sent out to live in the distant woods. "The reason why I lived here had a tragic backstory."
Serenity hugged me. "I'm sorry."
I continued, "My parents have been unable to have children for quite many years, until I was born. They decided to throw a celebration for the whole kingdom, but then, an uninvited guest broke into the celebration. She was an evil fairy from the land of Äjänevi, named Maleficent."
I can sound quite serious and cold when narrating bad memories. The name "Maleficent" alone already creates chills inside me, as I try to continue to speak to the prince. "She was enraged that she was not invited to the celebration, and she cursed me that I shall eventually die at the sunset before my sixteenth birthday, which... will be a few weeks later."
He was shocked, and his eyes went blank, crying. "Please, no! Aurora, don't die..."
The moment I saw him crying for me, I felt so touched. There is someone out there in the world, who truly cares about me. There is someone in the world, who understands my curse.
I comforted him, stroking his bright golden hair lightly, and said, "I won't."
"I was sent into the remote woods to ensure that Maleficent will be unable to find me. A group of three fairies, who were able to lift my curse slightly so that I would fall asleep for eternity, instead of dying, have been tasked with raising me. During these years, I lived my life like a common person in the forest. I kept my identity as Princess of Kultajärvi secret."
He dried up his tears and asked, "Is there nothing that can wake you up when you fall asleep?"
I tried to give him some hope. "There is, Serenity. An act of true love can wake me up."
Serenity paused for a while. We both looked at the sky under the trees by the lakeside.
He then continued. "Aurora, I have two things to confess to you."
I closely listened, hoping that he would bring some surprise for me. I can feel, that my heartbeat is accelerating, like a chariot on a highway.
"The first thing, is that I suffer from a similar curse."
With a somber tone, he spoke out what is the most probable reason of him having sympathies with me. Knowing that he also suffers from a curse, I could not help feeling sorry for him.
"Oh no!"
He then told me more about his curse. "Not long after I was born to my mother, a witch named Nehelenia cursed me that I shall never ascend the throne alive. We don't know how exactly this curse will take effect, but my mother was very concerned. I don't know why, but Nehelenia claims to be the rightful queen of the Moon, and she hates my mother very much, that she wanted her to watch her son suffer."
He then looked at his star brooch. "My sisters, who naturally wield the powers of planets, were assigned with the task of protecting me as a team. They are capable of transforming into Sailor Guardians, who can then use their magic to keep peace in the kingdom and defend me."
His curse does sound familiar to me. We are both cursed to eventually die in the future when we were born, and we were raised under the protection of magical beings. Will our fates unite us?
"I have fairies, you have sisters. They both wield magical powers. It really sounds quite similar, in a way, or not?"
The golden-haired boy seemed to agree with me. "Yes. More than fourteen years have passed since Nehelenia placed that curse on me. We have yet to encounter any threat, but me and my sisters have to be on our guards so that we can overcome the curse."
That's just horrible. He doesn't know when he will fall to the curse. It wouldn't be good if he live in fear every day...
"It just doesn't feel good worrying your whole life about when you will fall to the curse... As I said, my sixteenth birthday is coming quite soon, and I have tried to live every day of my life as if tomorrow never existed." I then pointed my arm to the scenery out there in the lake and continued, "Cherish every part of the beautiful sky and land, every night of the Northern Lights, and so on..."
Fortunately, Serenity's life isn't overrun with fear. "I have more or less the similar mindset. I'd sometimes be immersed in my books, and at other times, I would enjoy playing chess with Mercury. I'd enjoy every meal Jupiter has cooked for her siblings, and then watch her perform some cool martial arts, and I'd be inclined to listen Mars's predictions of the future..."
I felt happy for him. "That's good. Enjoy life while you can!"
He then paused for a while, and continued, "The second thing, is that..."
He looked at me, and began to blush. "I..."
It seems, he wants to express his…
"I think I might be in love with you!"
Without a doubt, he is really in love with me! The adorable prince from the Moon is showing his affections!
He regarded upon the scenery of the lake and said, "I enjoy every moment shared with you. I enjoyed learning more about you and this amazing planet that the Moon orbits. Every moment talking with you is a moment of bliss, and I want this true love to be more than just a kiss."
The young prince then looked at me with his crystal-clear blue eyes. "Aurora, rakastan sinua!"
I don't know how to react. That moment was purely cute and sweet, and he even confessed his love in my language!
