Chapter 504 Final Boss

(Author's Note: Hey folks this will be the last chapter for the future arc and then it's back to the Underground. Enjoy.)
In the Mountain Kingdom, the local residence, along with Simon, Lance, Henry, X, O, Serenity, Mara, Django, and Silico all stood together as they watched Bubblegum and her team make their way to the final boss. Victory was within their grasp! Soon the Mountain Kingdom and the Gridface Kingdom would be allied with Sanctuary and they would all face off against Gumbald and his forces to get to the Timenado and return Bubblegum to her proper time to change the future.
In the game Bubblegum and her team were heading down the hallway to face off against Count Nogrog, when they saw Wraithmaster and Ultimate Gamer standing in their path with their swords drawn.
"How did these two guys get here?" Asked Turquoise.
"There are many paths to the final boss in this castle, we just found a shorter route then you. We are the best players after all." Said Wraithmaster.
"We're just awesome like that." Said Ultimate Gamer.
"So now what? Are you just going to prevent us from reaching Count Nogrog and beat him yourselves and claim the prize?" Neddy.
"Pretty much." Said Ultimate Gamer.
"That's how we role." Said Wraithmaster.
"What if we make you an offer to let us through and beat the final boss? We're willing to negotiate." Said Bubblegum.
"Sorry queen, but that's a hard pass. You see we want the treasure and we want to prevent you from winning this little competition to get the alliance of the Mountain Kingdom and the Gridface Kingdom." Said Ultimate Gamer.
"Wait. How do you know that? Who are you two?" Said Bubblegum.
"Sorry no spoilers." Said Ultimate Gamer.
"It's Game Over for you!" Said Wraithmaster before he stuck his sword in the ground and large stone spikes shot out of the ground trying to impale everyone.
The heroes jumped and dodged to avoid the spikes. Ultimate Gamer raced off down the hall to the final boss, while Wraithmaster stayed behind.
"I'll deal with this creep, the rest of you go on ahead!" Said Marceline before she flew forward swinging her ax at Wraithmaster, who blocked it with his sword.
Marceline and Wraithmaster swung their weapons and exchanged blows as the others raced after Ultimate Gamer. The hallway ended and the group found themselves in a giant throne room, where Ultimate Gamer was already engaged in battle with Count Nogrog. Ultimate Gamer fired lasers from his shoulder cannons at Nogrog, who expertly dodged around and hurled what appeared to be rose flowers and stems at the area around Ultimate Gamer. The stems grew to great size and they shot large green thorn spikes up through the ground at Ultimate Gamer, who dodged them and sliced through the stems, with his sword. The rose flowers on the stems exploded into a blur of red flower petals and the petals turned into red spikes and began to rain down on Ultimate Gamer, making him shout in surprise as he raised his sword to protect himself from the onslaught.
Ultimate Gamer managed to block most of the attacks, but a few got through his defenses and struck his right shoulder, his chest, and legs. The attack then stopped, as Nogrog appeared next to Ultimate Gamer and punch him across the face spinning and flying into a wall. Nogrog was about to fly over and attack Ultimate Gamer, but the player fired some laser from his eyes that struck Nogrog in the chest knocking him to the ground. Ultimate Gamer got up and was about to fire his shoulder cannons at the boss, when Lucinda quickly flew in and struck him knocking him back into the wall.
"Deal with the boss, I'll deal with this guy!" Said Lucinda to the others.
Bubblegum nodded as she and the remainder of her team ran in and faced Count Nogrog.
"So you finally made it. Splendid! Let the final battle begin! Will you be victorious or will you fail? Let's find out!" Said Nogrog before he fired a stream of purple energy bats at the heroes.
Bubblegum quickly raised a energy shield in front of herself and her allies as the bats struck it and exploded knocking her and the others to the ground. Nogrog laughed as he rode into the air and began to throw roses flowers at the ground near the heroes. Bubblegum yelped in surprise as she barely avoided being stabbed by a rose thorn that shot out of the ground. She quickly got to her feet and shot the stem with a laser. The rose flower exploded into a blur of flower petals that turned into large red spikes that rained down onto Bubblegum and her party. Turquoise and Neddy used their combined powers to rip up some nearby suits of armor from the walls and used them to make a makeshift covering to protect them and their allies. The spikes rained down, but the shield held.
Nogrog swooped down and grabbed Bubblegum by the neck lifting her up as he laughed and prepared to stab her with his free hand. Bubblegum quickly reached up and fired a blob of gum into Nogrog's face blinding the boss and making him drop her as he stumbled back. Chicle charged at Nogrog and fired a few lasers at Nogrog that struck the boss and made him stagger back. Ultimate Gamer managed to knock Lucinda and tried to rush and attack Nogrog with his sword, but Bubblegum fired some gumballs at his feet making the enemy player slip and fall to the ground. Nogrog ripped the gum from his face and was about to fire some energy bats at Bubblegum and Chicle, when Turquoise charged in swinging her swords and delivered some sword slashes to the boss inflicting a good deal of damage on him.
The lasers hit Nogrog injuring the boss some more. Turquoise joined in by firing her lasers at the boss as well. Ultimate Gamer tried to fire his lasers at Nogrog, but Lucinda knocked him away with a powerful blow from her hammer. After another minute or so of shooting Nogrog collapsed to the ground on his hands and knees.
"Keep hammering him!" Yelled Chicle as he and Bubblegum fired lasers at Nogrog.
The throne began to change into a coliseum-like setting with large stone pillars and a massive statue of Nogrog in the back with a clock imbedded in it's chest.
"Is it over?" Asked Bubblegum.
"Not quite yet. Now you're going to see a real nightmare!" Said Nogrog as he rose into the air and his cape completely enveloped him.
"What is happening?" Asked Bubblegum.
"Second phase. All big bosses have more then one phase or form." Said Dan.
The cape began to tear as Nogrog emerged from it completely transformed into a more monstrous form. Nogrog was easily three times his size, with giant black wings, two spikes on his shoulders, a third eye, horns, a black tail, giant claws, and all he wore were ripped pants, a belt with spikes and a moon in the center.
"Prepare for a Game Over!" Roared Nogrog.
"Fire!" Yelled Bubblegum as she, Chicle, and Turquoise fired their lasers at Nogrog.
The lasers struck the boss, but unlike before they didn't seem to be able to hurt him at all. Nogrog laughed as he flew forward and swung his right clawed hand and struck the trio sending them flying and crashing into a wall. Bubblegum and her allies groaned as Nogrog prepared to fire a purple laser from his third eye. Bubblegum and Chicle managed to get out of the way, but the beam struck Turquoise's upper right arm and it instantly turned to stone!
"What the?!" Cried Turquoise in shock as she looked at her arm.
"I shall turn you into stone and use you to decorate my chambers!" Declared Nogrog.
"Try this on for size you overgrown creep!" Yelled Neddy as he chucked all the suits of armor and weapons at the boss.
The projectiles struck the boss, but like the lasers they seemed to have no affect on Nogrog. Nogrog just laughed as he fired more lasers forcing everyone to dive for cover to avoid getting hit.
"How are we supposed to beat this guy, if nothing hurts him?!" Said Bubblegum.
"There's got to be a trick or something." Said Chicle looking for a solution.
Ultimate Gamer looked at the big Nogrog statue and fired a laser at it. The attack hit the statue making cracks appear on it and Nogrog shouted in pain as cracks appeared on his body.
"Bingo!" Said Ultimate Gamer as he got ready to shoot the statue again.
Chicle fired a laser at Ultimate Gamer forcing him to get behind cover.
"Go for the statue! I'll keep Ultimate Gamer away from it!" Yelled Chicle as he fired more laser at Ultimate Gamer keeping him pinned.
Bubblegum and Turquoise fired lasers at the statue making more cracks appear on it and made Nogrog shout in pain as more cracks appear on his body. Nogrog tried to attack the players, but Lucinda flew in and knocked the boss out of the air with her hammer knocking the boss to the ground. Neddy then used his powers to knock a column down and laid it right on top of the boss keeping him pinned as the others focused on attacking the statue and keeping Ultimate Gamer distracted. All was going good and it seemed like Bubblegum and her allies were about to beat Nogrog and win, when Wraithmaster suddenly burst in on the scene.
Wraithmaster's armor was dented and scratched up, but he was ready to fight. The armored player let out a roar as he stabbed his sword into the ground. The ground began to shake as large stone spikes burst from it and attempted to stab everyone. One spike came up and managed to stab Steve the Finn player and he exploded into light. The other hero players and Ultimate Gamer managed to avoid the spikes, but the distraction allowed Nogrog to escape and he blasted Dan and Turquoise turning them both to stone!
"Two down! They'll make excellent additions to my trophy room!" Said Nogrog before turning his attention to the other people in the room.
"We need to destroy the statue to defeat the boss!" Ultimate Gamer yelled to Wraithmaster as he prepared to fire a laser blast from his cannons.
"No problem! One good blast should do it!" Said Wraithmaster as he prepared to fire an energy blast from his sword.
Both enemy players fired their attacks at the statue. Chicle saw that the attacks were going to hit and that they would destroy the statue winning the quest! He couldn't let that happen! Without a second thought Chicle threw himself directly into the path of the attacks and intercepted them! Chicle had no time to throw up any shields as the attacks struck him and he exploded into light!
"Chicle!" Cried Bubblegum in shock and dismay.
Ultimate Gamer was about to try firing another attack, but Lucinda struck him with her hammer and Marceline showed up behind Wraithmaster striking him with her ax and sending him flying and crashing to the ground.
"I beat your stupid double." Growled Marceline glaring down at the knight.
Bubblegum realized she was the only one left who wasn't fighting enemy players or dodging attacks from Nogrog, that could still attack the statue and destroy it. She focused her elemental power to create a enormous ball of candy filled with soda and reactive candy to form a candy bomb to hurl at the statue. The candy bomb flew and detonated at the statue blowing it to bits!
"Aaaaaaaaaaaa! Noooooo!" Screamed Nogrog as more cracks appeared on his body and then he exploded into light!
Turquoise and Dan turned back to normal as trumpets played and confetti fell from above.
"The winner is Bubblegum!" Cheered a loud unseen voice.
The others cheered as Neddy used his powers to wrap some metal poles around both Wraithmaster and Ultimate Gamer's wrist restraining the two.
"Let's see who these two really are." Said Marceline as she and Lucinda went to remove their helmets.
"Jinkies!" Said Bubblegum.
"Doktor Frogg! Dr. Flug!" Said Neddy, Marceline, and Lucinda.
Doktor Frogg had been Wraithmaster and Dr. Flung had been Ultimate Gamer.
"You were trying to prevent my mother from winning the quest, so she wouldn't have the Mountain Kingdom or the Gridface Kingdom allied with her to fight against Gumbaldia!" Said Neddy.
"That's right!" Said Dr. Flug.
"And we would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling heroes and your friendship!" Said Doktor Frogg.
"So what do we do with them?" Asked Dan.
"Well this is a game, I say we kick them out." Said Marceline with a mischievous grin.
Marceline and Lucinda dragged the two players to a wall, smashed the wall down, and hurled them outside! Doktor Frogg and Dr. Flug screamed as they fell into the moat below and exploded into light.
"Well I guess this is the end. It was a honor to serve and fight alongside you." Said Dan.
"Likewise." Said Bubblegum.
"That takes care of that." Said Marceline.
With that said the players logged out.
Bubblegum, Neddy, Marceline, Lucinda, and Turquoise found themselves back in the chamber back in the Mountain Kingdom where a crowd of Mountain Kingdom civilians along with Simon and the rest of their party clapped and cheered. Chicle walked over to Bubblegum and the other victors to congratulate them. Bubblegum was happy to see her cousin was alright, she had momentarily forgotten that the whole quest had been in virtual reality and when she saw Chicle sacrifice himself, she had freaked out.
"I'm glad you're ok. That move you played saved us." Said Bubblegum.
"It was a sacrifice I was willing to make to help you. Now we have a chance to save the future." Said Chicle.
Beardbottom and Silico walked over to Bubblegum. A hologram of Gridface Princess popped up next to Silico and addressed Bubblegum.
"Congratulations Bubblegum, you won the challenge and as per our agreement, both the Gridface Kingdom and the Mountain Kingdom shall aid you in the battle against Gumbaldia. My army and tech are yours." Said Gridface Princess.
"And you have my ax as well as my army." Said King Beardbottom.
"Thank you both." Said Bubblegum with a bow.
"Now let us have a little celebration for your victory." Said Gridface Princess.
The heroes along with the royals and residence threw a little party and everyone was in high spirits.
Meanwhile miles away at Black Hat's manor, Dr. Flug and Doktor Frogg were in the main lab mopping a little at their defeat in Venture Point, when Black Hat entered the lab and the two scientists straightened up.
"I take it the two of you failed in stopping Bubblegum in winning that quest?" Asked Black Hat.
"Yes sir." Said Dr. Flung looking nervous.
"Well it was a valiant attempt with some originality. Bubblegum and her allies may have won this battle, but they will ultimately lose the war." Said Black Hat.
Dr. Flug and Doktor Frogg relaxed a little bit.
"Did you finish that other project I had you working on?" Asked Black Hat.
"We did sir. The simulations showed full successful penetration, though the cloaking will only last for a small amount of time." Said Dr. Flug.
"Good. We will have to work fast, if we want our prize, but I have faith it can be done. Then we shall strike Bubblegum and her allies down in the darkest way possible making this future permanent!" Said Black Hat with a evil laugh.
The heroes may have successfully recruited the freed territories, but their enemies still had a few tricks up their sleeves.
