I am sitting on Davina's bed, while Elijah is standing next to me. We are both patiently waiting for Davina to explain what this 'harvest' is, and I hope it has something to do with her connection with Marcel.
Davina had been looking at her painting, when she finally turned to face me, "What did Sophie tell you?"
"Nothing." I state honestly, and she looks at me with raised eyebrows. "All I heard on my way out was something about a harvest and it having to do with you."
"Now that we have made that clear, may you tell us about this 'harvest'?" Elijah questions, and I wait for Davina's response. She nods at us in a calm manner.
She takes a deep breath, and faces the two of us. "It was a death sentence." Davina states, and my eyes widen. Far from what I was expecting her to say.
I look at Elijah, who is looking at Davina confused. I turn back to Davina, who does not seem fazed at all.
"May you please elaborate?" Elijah asks, and I agree. Davina smiles at us, before she goes to her drawer and starts organizing her clothes.
"It was a sacrifice. They would have four girls put in a state of like...peaceful limbo. It was part of the offering." She takes some of her clothes and starts to fold them, "Then later at the reaping we'd awaken and be reborn. I never got as far as the limbo part..which means the ritual is not complete. That's why the witches are so freaked out."
"And this ritual, will it just stay incomplete forever?" I questioned.
"No. They have to finish the sacrifice before the reaping, and it's right around the corner. Once it passes," Davina walks over to put some more clothes away, then turns to face us. "It's over. I just have to wait it out until then."
"Then what?" Elijah questioned.
"They're punished, and then I'm free." Davina states calmly.
"Free of what?" I wonder, and she looks at me.
"Of magic." Davina states, and I look at her confused. "All our power will drain away. I'll be normal."
I see as Elijah takes a step closer to Davina, and I get up from my seat.
"And that's what you want to be, normal?" Elijah questions, and I cross my arms.
Davina looks between us conflicted and I start to feel sorry for her. "I just don't want to be what I am. I...I can't control it sometimes. I.."
"You hurt people." I jump in and she looks at me surprised, stepping closer. "It's not your fault, trust me."
"It's hard to believe that when I'm the reason I'm like this in the first place." Davina say agitated. I look up to Elijah, who is still looking at her interested, so I ask an ice breaker.
"So, your friends. I saw how you were with Timothy, you must miss your other friends, no?" I question, and she nods solemnly with a smile.
"Tim, he was my only friend who didn't know about my magic." Davina smiled, then her smile started to drop. "But, my best friend, Monique, she was part of the harvest too. She's lucky. No one ever fought for me, but someone fought for her. Her aunt."
"And who was that?" Elijah questioned.
"Sophie." Davina answers, and then looks away from us.
"Wait, Sophie tried to break this harvest?" I question curiously and Davina nods. She then grabs her paintbrush and starts to paint again.
"No one ever doubted the ritual, except Sophie. Even my mom believed in it, so did I." She then pauses for a few seconds. "I was so naive."
"So, what happened?" Elijah asked, and she turned around to face us again.
"They treated us like princesses. My mother, she was so proud..." Davina then thinks for a moment, before continuing. "Bastiana, one of the elders, called upon the four elements to bind our past and future magic together. After all our preparation, we knew what to expect. For weeks they told us that the magic in the knife they used to cut our palms, would put us to sleep. And later at the reaping, we would all be resurrected. They said we'd awaken. And all be together and more powerful than ever. And it was just like we rehearsed it. All that was left was a little cut on our palms for the blood sacrifice." The tone of Davina's voice just kept becoming more and more irritated.
"Even after Sophie tried to stop it, we didn't suspect anything. The first one of us went up, prepared for going into a deep sleep. But instead, she got her throat slit right in front of our eyes. " Davina says, with her eyes now red.
Elijah and I try to digest the situation. This harvest is basically a blood ritual used to sacrifice children.
"And everyone involved in the ritual...knew this would happen." Elijah states.
"Everyone except the four of us. They weren't putting us to sleep, they were slaughtering us. I tried to plead with my mom, I yelled and screamed as I watched them kill my friends. My own mother shunned me away...nothing I or Sophie's words...none of our screams made a difference." Davina's voice breaks, as she lets out that last sentence.
"If they were not freeing you, and you are still alive, someone else or something else must have come." I speculate, and Davina starts to wipe her tears.
"Yes. Someone from the dead. Marcel saved me."
Everything starts to click now. The reason why Davina is so loyal to Marcel, the reason why Marcel banned witches from magic: it was all because of this blood harvest. But there is still one question I have.
"So, how are you so powerful if this ritual was a hoax?"
"Every girl who died released her power onto the next. When I was the last one, I suddenly had all the power. All the power that was supposed to be released back into the earth to appease our ancestors." Davina explains. Elijah and I turn to look at each other, confused.
Elijah then turns to Davina to ask the same question I assume. "So...the harvest was working?"
"Something was working." Davina disputes. "And I knew I was supposed to be killed so the harvest could be completed and we could all be resurrected. But they lied to us about how they were killing us...how do I not know they weren't lying to us about coming back. But most importantly, I just didn't want to die."
Another thing I can relate to, unfortunately.
"Which is why I let him save me. Marcel saved my life."
Alright, now I think I understand everything. I actually feel a little better. She gained this power from other witches who were supposed to gain significant amounts of power. I feel great knowing I am still the strongest witch from my own grit and strength to exist.
"Well, this was...knowledgeable." I say.
"Indeed." Elijah agrees, and Davina looks between us, confused.
"That all you have to say?" Davina asks me, and I nod in confusion. "I mean, I understand your brother because he's a vampire. But you're a thousand-year-old witch. I would assume you would be more angry with me going against an ancestral tradition."
"Oh, you have a lot to learn about Kalle." Elijah mentioned, walking away from the two of us.
I laugh at her statement. "Davina, I have not liked the witches in centuries. I actually envy your courage. I mean, when I was sixteen I never had that type of confidence."
"Hm...well, thank you." Davina states, and I nod. I look at Elijah who has a worried face, and I try to get serious.
"But, Davina. You have a large amount of power that you need to get under control." I explain.
"Well, how do you suggest I do that because I have been trying for ages." Davina states, as she crosses her arms.
I try to think about how a young teenager girl can control the power of four witches. It makes no sense though. She had control when she wiped Rebekah's memory, and when she threw her out the window.
Whenever the witches use their magic, she seems to have a sense of stability when locating what witch is using that magic. How could she have such control over these things...and yet...
Oh, I get it.
"Your anger." Davina looks at me confused. "That's the key."
"My anger?"
"Whenever you're in control of your magic, it's when you're angry or hate someone. You despise the witches, and I assume Marcel drilled in your head to hate my family." I explain, and Elijah looks at me with a little smile. I have no idea why, but I ignore it.
"But when I went against Klaus, I lost my control." Davina states, and I tilt my head back and forth at her.
"Well...my brother is a very unique breed and can cause people to make them want to explode." I state very casually and she nods. "Look, you are very strong. I just think with the right practice you can learn to control your magic."
"And I think I know just the right person to teach you." Elijah says, and Davina turns around to face him, while I'm already looking at him confused. Elijah continues to stare at me, and I just realize was that little smile was earlier.
"No."
"Sister.."
"Elijah, we are not doing this again. No no no no, did I mention no?" I complain.
"She needs the practice, you said it yourself."
"Yeah, I meant grabbing a grimoire and practicing. I am not becoming a teacher."
"Don't you always say you're the most powerful witch?"
"I don't see the correlation." I cross my arms.
"If anyone could teach her to control her magic, it's you." Elijah says, knowing my weakness.
"Elijah...please."
"Would you like the injury of an innocent bystander to be on your hands?" Elijah questions.
"It wouldn't be."
"Yes it would because you decline to help, and because you said no, there is now a funeral being held for that poor man that walked pasted the wrong building."
"You are not funny, you know that right." I state in a serious tone, and Elijah shrugs.
"No need to take the risk...besides. You and I both want this entire family to be safe." Elijah states, and I know he is including the baby in that. Ugh, I am getting really tired of him playing the baby card.
I look at Elijah frustrated, because he already knew what my answer would be, which is why he is calm.
"Fine." I roll my eyes, and Elijah nods with a small smile.
"Um? Hello?" Davina interrupts, and I see her confused at the situation. "Don't I have a say in this?"
I mention for Elijah to speak to her, since he's the one who is making me do this in the first place. I guess the good news is that Davina seems more manageable than Elena and her group of friends.
She's strong, and I am not just saying in a magical sense. She fights for her life and does not let anyone tell her what her own destiny is. She is making it herself. Maybe I should take some notes, and take destiny into my own hands as well. I am done letting my mother dictate my life. I will find a loophole around this spell, so I don't have to let my family suffer.
So I can live.
Because whether or not Kol is here anymore, he would hate it if his life was the reason why I am mortal. And I will fight to live, for myself, and for my brother.
"So, do we have a deal?" Elijah asks Davina, and rather quickly, Davina agrees to our offer.
Once Elijah and I left, Elijah was on the lookout for Nik. I figured they had their own business to settle, so I went back home. No way in hell was I getting in the middle of another brotherly brawl.
I open the front door, and as I walk in, I see Rebekah and Hayley around the corner.
"I'm home!" I state, closing the door. I walk into the room, and see them both exhausted. "What I miss?"
Rebekah looks at Hayley for a moment, before looking back at me with a smile. "It seems she will fit into the family just fine. She loves danger as much as the rest of us." Rebekah then takes a glass of some alcohol and starts to drink.
I turn to face Hayley, a bit confused. "Please tell me you haven't almost gotten yourself killed once again?"
"No, but your sister is getting really good at having my back." Hayley mentions, as Rebekah continues to drink. I smile at my sister. "You as well."
I look back at Hayley, and realize she is talking about me. "Me?"
Hayley nods. "I know how hard you've been working to finding Elijah as well, and making sure that this baby is okay. I appreciate it." Hayley say sincerely.
I smile at Hayley as well, and then look back at Rebekah who is done drinking her glass. "I would love one too. It's been a long night."
Rebekah nods at me, and starts to pour. "Care to explain?"
Rebekah finishes pouring and hands me the glass of whiskey. I take the glass, and twirl it in my hand. "You will soon enough, once Elijah and Niklaus come back here."
I then take a sip, and see Rebekah and Hayley's eyes both widen. But Rebekah's face is even more surprised. I don't think she knew Elijah was coming back so soon.
"What-?" The door opens, cutting off Rebekah's sentence.
I turn around, to see Niklaus enter the room. Then, shortly after, Elijah enters. As he walks in, a huge smile appears on his face, which I am assuming is for Rebekah.
Before I realize, Rebekah runs toward Elijah and gives him a big hug. I smile at my siblings, and take another sip from my glass.
"Elijah." I hear Rebekah say in relief. They then let go of their hug. "You're safe."
Elijah's eyes then move away from Rebekah and look behind her. I thought he was looking at me, but he was looking behind me as well, to Hayley. I see Hayley at the corner of my eye smile at him, then walk out of the room.
"Now that you're home, is your first plan to kill Niklaus?" Rebekah asks, happily.
"Excuse me, just a moment." Elijah kisses Rebekah on the head, then walks past her. He then comes to me, and hugs me. Which surprises me a little, but I hug him back.
"Thank you for coming." Elijah whispers to me, and then lets go of the hug. I smile at him, before he walks past me as well and heads in the same direction as Hayley.
Rebekah, Nik, and I all watch as he leaves the room, leaving all of us confused.
"Where is he going?" Rebekah questions, and I have a pretty good idea to whom.
"It doesn't matter." I finish my drink, then place it down on the table. I look at my siblings, as they are already facing me. "We all need to talk."
I lead Niklaus and Rebekah to the office and they sit, while I continue to stand. Until Hayley and Elijah return, I explain to Nik and Rebekah the entire story over what happened with Davina. Niklaus heard some of this from Marcel, but did not understand the impact this event had on the entire witch and vampire community.
Elijah and Hayley return only a few minutes later, and I catch Haylee up as well with a quick summary. Then, Elijah begins to speak about how this fake war has lead to our family coming back to town.
"The whole reason we came back to the city was a lie. This story Sophie Devereaux fabricated, this struggle for control, the war between witches and vampires was all a lie. It was never over that, it was all over Davina." Elijah starts, and I continue.
"Davina is the key for Sophie to get her niece back. If Davina lives, Sophie's niece stays dead and it is only a matter of time before Sophie runs out of time to save her."
Elijah agrees, then begins to speak against. "Jane Anne risked her life, not to regain power for the witches, but to save her daughter's life. She knew that if this baby was a baby of the original family, that we would come back to town and locate Davina ourselves. This was never about power...this was about family. It order to return her niece back from the dead, Sophie Devereaux will fight to the death. That makes her more dangerous than anyone."
"Which is why we came up with a plan." I state, crossing my arms.
"Which is?" Niklaus questions.
"To protect Davina."
I watch as a smile grows on Nik's face, but anger grows on Rebekah's.
"Ah, so that means we are stealing Davina from Marcel." Nik says highly interested and I squint my eyes at him, and I try to ignore his idiotic statement.
"Niklaus, Davina would not leave Marcel for you if she was on her dying breath." Elijah states and I nod in agreement, while Niklaus glares at the both of us.
"You want to protect the girl who threw me out of a bloody window? Have you both lost it?" Rebekah complains. She continues to rant about not wanting a thing to do with protecting Davina, but my eyes avert away from her.
"You've been quiet." I mention, and I finally hear Rebekah stop talking. Everyone turns their attention to Hayley, who is standing quietly near the door. "This all has to do with your baby, I would figure you would want to add in something to the conversation."
Hayley's eyes look around to room at each one of us, before her eyes land back on me. "Well...I think that if this girl is so powerful, maybe it would be a good thing to have her on our side."
"I save your life and this is how you return the favor?" Rebekah asks annoyed.
"Rebekah, Davina is reassurance. That harvest ritual obviously worked, and Sophie knows that. If Sophie finds a way to capture Davina and kill her, the quarter witches will gain control and power." Elijah explains, and he walks over to Hayley. "Now if we want this child to remain safe, I don't think having a newly empowered group of witches will keep our magical baby here safe."
"So, any objections?" I question, specifically looking at Rebekah. She looks back and forth between Elijah and I, before admitting defeat. Hayley already agreed with our conditions, so all eyes are on Niklaus.
He is looking at us with a questionable glare though. "Just one thing. Sophie and Hayley over here are still linked. If Sophie finds out we turned against her, won't she get angry and you know..." He then motions himself cutting his throat.
"Which is why Kalle is going to break that bond." Elijah states, and I nod happily.
"Wait, if Kalle could have broken the bond earlier, why wait this long?" Rebekah asks me, and I look towards her.
"Because our eldest brother was missing because a certain hybrid decided to put a dagger into his heart and I figured finding our flesh and blood was more of importance than a baby, who is not even born yet, and a girl we just met." I explain, and Rebekah nods in understanding, while I turn to face Hayley. "No offense."
Hayley just shrugs to the matter, and my focus goes back to my siblings.
"So, any more objections?" Elijah asks. We all stay silent, and even Niklaus has nothing to say anymore. "Good. Because we have a lot of work to do."
