Ch2
When you have a problem, it's not really a problem if you know and have the solution. So, what if you gpt nothing?
Another boring day in the office, barely any work to do yet she has to be there. She sits inside some kind of war room where dozens of agents glued to their computers, some working on research while others are monitoring the situation in Shinjuku. A giant screen placed on one of the walls, and everything is connected to it as well in case of an emergency. This has been going on for more than a year, they found some clues here and there, yet there are no big things coming out of them. She sighs, it's boring yet she should be happy for this.
Bored, she checks a file about the last night anomaly. There's an agent tasked to checking it, but it's fine for her. It's not like she has better things to do right now. A signal picked up by their computer is a very faint signal, and because of that they can't pinpoint the exact location.
"I already have a team working on that, Miss Ohtori." Said a familiar voice from behind.
Ohtori Reika turns around with an annoyed face. "Cut the act blonde boy, it's annoying. Who am I, huh? A government inspector?" She rolls her eyes, then checks the file again. "I got nothing to do anyway, hmm.. how about dinner at that new place tonight~?" Asked her.
Mitsuo Yamaki sits next to her. "We're at work, and you're the second in command. There is no need to check it yourself." He taps the screen and shows her the area where that signal comes from. "Just act a little more professional, I know it's boring, but this is better than on the edge of destruction."
"Sure sure, I mean yes sir..." she said faintly with a sigh, clearly not motivated.
"Good, you can order anything you want later"
She quickly turns to see Yamaki walk away and wave his hand. "As you wish, boss~"
A few hours passed, and Reika's mood is still good. She can't wait to get her dinner with Yamaki. In a few minutes, their shift is over and they can go to the restaurant immediately, or she could go home first. Unfortunately, an emergency alarm ruins her plan.
Everyone in that room stops their current work and heads over to their respective station, some quickly run out to the other room. Yamaki enters the room and takes full command immediately. "What is it!? Show it to me!" he ordered them. One person in front of his seat connects his monitor display to the main monitor on the wall, showing Shinjuku's map with seven red dots located near each other.
One person zooms in on the map, all of them are located in Matsuda's Bakery. "Sir! Those are the same signals from last night! It's-"
"D-Ark, it's them." Yamaki said, finishing his men words. "I'll get going, Miss Ohtori will take the lead while I'm gone."
Reika grabs Yamaki's wrist. "What!? I mean, sir, you're supposed to be the one who takes the charge," she argued with him.
"Those kids won't trust our agents that easily, they know me personally."
Yamaki quickly made his way to the bakery while the team was handled by Reika. The woman in charge monitors Yamaki's car, there is nothing on his way and fortunately no traffic jam as well. With the distance to the bakery not that far, it should be a matter of time until those kids come to their base, but something else is coming.
"Ma'am! Data field appears not far from their location." Said one of the agents.
"Any Digimon detected?" She looks at the screen and sees a big white dot located not far from those red dots.
"Nothing, there is no-huh!? Another Bio-Emerge! One hundred meters from the first one. That-"
The room fell into silence. Everyone's jaws dropped with their eyes on the screen as more big white dots appeared simultaneously.
"Yamaki!" Takato steps forward first, as usual. Even the blonde man acknowledges him as the leader of the pack.
Without saying a word, Yamaki pointed at his car and all of them rushed in. The inside of it feels cramped with eight kids and Yamaki there, some complain about it, like Mako and Kazu.
"You sure quick to find us, do we even have privacy in this world?" asks Ruki begrudgingly.
"Rest assured, we know only from your D-Arks" replied Yamaki. "Which one turned on last night?"
Everyone stared at Takato and the man quickly understood just from a glance. He chose not to say much on the way. Most of these kids won't catch the details or quickly understand how they detected them, plus it's not that important right now. On their way to the Hypos HQ, more digital fields appear, prompting Yamaki to increase their speed.
Once they've arrived, all of them are put into some kind of meeting room. There is an oval table with chairs around it and two flat screens that show a map and the command room where Reika is. They could see a lot of Hypnos employees in a state of 'panic', each working on their own station with Reika leading them. Yamaki chooses to stay with the tamers and only interfere Reika if he needs something.
Yamaki opens a laptop and checks the details of the situation. "Those are not them, right?"
"Yes, I don't think Guilmon is in there." Takato replied, still checking his D-Ark. Nothing is there, not even a pin-point location or anything that indicates Guilmon is coming from one of those digital fields. "Guys, anything?"
One by one, they shake their heads. To their disappointment, they can't detect or see their partner with their D-Ark.
"Umm, Mister Yamaki.. I think something else is happening right now." Juri says faintly, showing her cracked D-Ark that glows. "You know what I mean, right?"
"Miss Ohtori, you heard that?" Yamaki only needs a moment to glance at her D-Ark before staring at his screen again.
In the other room, Reika heard everything that was said in the meeting room. "Yes, working on it. We assume it's because of the sheer amount of energy or data from those digital fields. We're still trying to contact the rest of their team. They're currently spread out in different countries, sir."
"Jian, I think your sister should be at this place." Yamaki tosses his phone to Jian, which the boy responds with a nod and walks out of the room.
Amidst all of this, the two youngest tamers overwhelmed by hectic atmosphere. All they want is to meet their partner again, yet all of this happened. They had never been put in a situation like this before. The closest thing they experienced was picking up Impmon after the imp injured, not joining the real fight. Scared, Mako holds her sister's hand and tugs Juri's sleeve a bit.
Juri quickly turns to the sibling. "Hey hey, it's okay. It's just... some Digimons coming, maybe some new friends."
"A-Are you sure? What if something coming to hurt us Juri?" asked Ai.
"We're safe here, umm remember when I told you about how Impmon saved me?"
The siblings looked at each other, then nodded to her. "But he... failed, right?"
"No, that's not what I mean. He's not scared and able to push through scary monsters, and here I am. Sure it's not his hand that saved me, but he helps a lot and I'm saved thanks to him as well." Said Juri with a smile. "So, as his partner.."
"We can't be scared!" They continue her words with a cheerful voice and smiles. Juri giggles, not what she expected and she's not hoping it works this well, but she's glad that they aren't scared anymore. "Hmm, Impmon might be angry that we're scared before, and he might not come because of you!" says Mako. "What? I'm not scared! I was you!" blamed Ai back to him.
On the other side of the room, Yamaki takes a deep breath after what he just saw. "Reika, put them on standby," commanded Yamaki after he saw Digimons detected on those digital fields. Not just one, but a pack of Digimon on each of them.
Somewhere in the Digital World, a big sheep-like Digimon walking through an icy plain. It's body is more like a centaur mixed with a sheep, he carries a purple crossbow on his right hand. His steps are steady on that slippery ground, even when holding that big crossbow with only one hand. The cold breeze from this plain isn't affecting him thanks to his thick wool, and it's also a source of warmth for the passenger on his back.
Loud and fast steps are coming towards that Digimon, they are coming from both of his sides. Two Meramon charging in his direction, snow and ice below their feet melt on touch. Their fiery fists start to burn brighter, as if those aren't hot yet, ready to burn their target to ashes. Still, the Digimon stays calm and only glances at the Meramon on his right side. When the fire-like Digimon close enough, he raises his crossbow and shoots it right on the chest. Meramon's body shatters, and its data fades away. The other Meramon able to go even closer, but their punch did nothing. Using his big forearm, the sheep holds Meramon's body and crushes it using his sheer strength alone.
After a few steps, the sheep stops. "Don't waste your energy and time, boy. They were just small fries." Said the sheep calmly before resuming his walks. "Your partner needs some rest, so don't bother to wake him up yet."
To the sheep's annoyance, he heard a chuckle from his back. "You don't need to be worried about me after doing that, Pajiramon." His passenger leans to his back, he lets them be for now. "I just want to help, you know."
"Don't get cocky human, you might be stronger than me thanks to your partner. But what I see right now is your pathetic state." replied Pajiramon.
"Ouch, haha." to his surprise, his passenger only chuckles at his remarks. "Honestly, I didn't know that you actually cared about my safety."
Pajiramon isn't replying to that immediately as they moving through different levels of the Digital World, getting closer to their destination. This task starts to annoy him even more, especially when there are lots of things he needs to do with the current situation.
When they arrived at different levels, Pajiramon opened his mouth again. "I don't care that much, only enough because they care about your existence. Their orders are absolute and I can't fail them, so don't get your hope too high, human." He doesn't want to talk too much, and he question himself why he opens his mouth. Maybe he's just too bored right now as they're going through a dull black and white village in Digital World, with no threats lurking around to get them.
The place they're passing isn't empty, there are lots of Digimons that live there. Some of them bow as they pass by, while others watch from afar. He didn't pay attention to their gestures as a good thing. Most of them are just curious about a Deva passing through their home with special passengers. Not long after that, they go through another level and almost arrive at their destination.
"Are they scared?" asks the passenger on his back.
"No. That wretched thing isn't touching that place," he replied. "yet."
"So we're safe?"
"Yes, they won't come near them." Pajiramon stops for a moment and glances at his passengers before continuing his walk. "I won't lie, human, you're an anomaly no matter how I see you."
A happy humming comes from his passenger. "Maybe. It's an accident at first, but now-" Pajiramon stops so suddenly, making his passenger confused and the other wakes up. "What's going on?"
"Silence, we're about to face them. I don't want to be seen talking to you, that was a slip of my tongue out of boredom."
"Cold."
A few minutes later, they arrived at their destination. Big figures could be seen waiting for them, one of them sent Pajiramon away, which the sheep immediately did. Leaving the two guests alone with them.
"So we've met again," said one of them. "Let's cut the formal things, something bad happened at your home."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Filled with anger and hatred, Beelzemon uses his shotgun and shoots at Caturamon without stopping. "Die!" He yelled at the Deva. His attacks are stronger than that Deva anticipated, forcing it to back down. With each shot hitting his body, Caturamon lets out a painful groan and takes a step back. As their distance increases, those bullets stop hitting Caturamon.
Beelzemon trying to aim carefully, only to see blurry Caturamon at the dark night. In desperation, he shoots a few more times before one of his legs gives up, he's on his limit. "Impmon!" he barely hears Terriermon's voice, only to realize that the bunny is on his side when his left arm pulled by him. "Impmon! Impmon! He's coming!"
"Huh?" The blurry vision suddenly gets clearer when Caturamon charges in his direction, tackling Beelzemon to the ground. Terriermon knocked to the side and his shotguns are out of reach. Both of his hands hold Caturamon's neck, the big blue dog-like Digimon unable to bite him. Caturamon scratches his arms and growls like a savage beast, which is very unlikely for a noble Deva that serves the Sovereigns.
At that moment, Lopmon is close and inside Caturamon's vision. The Digimon starts to attack Beelzemon's arms harder, trying to get Lopmon who's only a few steps away. Opening his big jaw, Caturamon about to take bite Lopmon. Even one bite is enough to gulp the brown bunny down to his throat.
That bite never hit Lopmon, Beelzemon's forearm blocked that. "Arrgh! You will... pay for that!" Beelzemon bashing his other fist at Caturamon's body, but the Deva not letting go. He could feel his arm becoming numb as each second passed.
"Terrier Tornado!"
Teriermon's attack hit right on Caturamon's eyes. The Deva yelp in pain and let go of Beelzemon's arm. The mega takes his chance and grabs Caturamon's head before throwing him in the direction of the oasis. Some trees knocked down in the process. He's on his knees again, now he can't feel his left arm at all. He shakes his head, trying to regain focus and finish the fight. "Here" Terriermon already on his side, bringing his shotguns.
"Wait!" Lopmon limping towards them, he almost passed out. "H-He's.. don't kill.."
"But that monster-"
"He's different.. not the one.. we knows.."
Caturamon already back on his feet, slowly moving towards them. Each step takes a long time, the damage from Beelzemon takes a huge toll on his body. His head keeps twitching weirdly. The Deva is clearly at disadvantage yet still going.
Watching the Deva almost at lethal range, he glances at Lopmon again. "It's either that beast, or us." he said to the bunny. "I'm sorry." Beelzemon aims both guns at the Deva. "Double Impact!"
After that shot, the Deva falls to the ground, right in front of them. The same thing also happens to Beelzemon, he reverts back to Impmon and almost hits the ground face first if Lopmon not caught his arms. Impmon looks at Lopmon and hugs him, which makes Lopmon surprised. Suddenly, they heard a faint groan from Caturamon, he's not dead yet.
Caturamon called someone's name faintly. "Antyla.. mon.."
Familiar with that name, Lopmon moved closer to the dying Deva. His body is starting to evaporate into bits of data. "You mean me?" asked Lopmon. The Deva nodded, he then takes a glance at Impmon and Terriermon. His eyes widen a bit when he sees Impmon.
"I'm sorry.." he said faintly to Impmon. "For my past self.. and the one you just fought.." Impmon is taken aback by that, wondering why the Deva said that at all.
"Caturamon! What's going on? Why are you-"
Caturamon shakes his head, they know his time is up. "Find... them.." The Deva is no longer with them, deleted from existence. Leaving the three Digimons more questions than answers.
"What does that even-"
Everything around him starts to spin, he can't get a hold of anything. He faintly heard his friends calling for his name before everything turned dark.
With nothing else on their hands, Takato suggested the first thing that came to mind. "We should try to go near one of them." he said bluntly to everyone in there.
"No."
"But we can't just sit around doing nothing!" Argues the boy, showing his frustration about the current situation.
"And what are you going to do dumbass!? Trying to fight them? Have you punched a Digimon before?" Yelled the girl beside him.
Ruki almost snapped when she heard that, thankfully Jian already back from calling her sister and quickly diffused the situation. The situation on the outside looks dire for them, or anyone in Shinjuku for that matter. Those Digimons could come out of the digital fields and wreck havoc on the city. Before, they were the frontline soldiers, even when they were just a bunch of kids. Now all they can do is take the back seats and watch, which is frustrating for almost all of the tamers.
Looking at the monitors again, Jian notices something weird. It's been half an hour since those Digimons were detected, and strangely there is no movement at all. He walks to Yamaki's side and checks more detailed data. "Are they even Digimons? They don't seem to move around at all, it's been a while." That question raises more concern for everyone.
"They should be, we are trying to get visual confirmation but those creatures are still inside the digital field. We just can't detect what kind of Digimons they are." explained Reika from the other room.
As much as he wants to ask for more info, Jian understands that sending someone inside would be a death sentence. "Anything we can do?"
"Prepare for the worst." Yamaki stopped, he had already prepared anything he could for this. "Miss Ohtori, all in position?"
"Yes, we contacted the military as well, just in case."
They just wait and wait, and two hours pass by just like that. Nothing good comes to them, they even detected more Digimons inside those digital fields. Until suddenly one digital field vanished, first the Digimons inside of it, then the digital field itself. This should be a relief but it just raises more confusion on their side. Hypnos trying their best to find what caused it, but even the agents on site are only able to see that the digital field is just gone.
"Is it over? Just like that?" asked Kazu, expecting some battle or something else. All of them had the same feelings, even though they didn't actually want to turn their city into a war zone.
One by one, those digital fields are gone, nowhere to be seen. Only one more digital field, and they're watching it very carefully. Eyes focused on that one remaining digital field, and they all sigh in relief when the Digimons inside it starting to disappear.
"Welp, I guess it's over." Kazu chuckles with Kenta. "Bout time I get my dinner~"
"Wait, hold on" a dot still inside that digital field, it's not closed yet. "I think you want someone to stand by" said Jian.
Yamaki nodded, some of his men still observing this one last digital field. He pressed a button, connecting those agents on the site's coms line to the speaker and their camera to the screen. There is a little buzzing sound from it. "Still nothing, check the signal again" says one of the agents, talking with his colleagues. Everyone nervous before the camera turned off so suddenly, then panic set in. "Sir! It's-bzzzzztt" Only buzzing sounds could be heard before they lost all communication from that team.
With no hesitation, Yamaki presses a button and an alarm blares in every room of Hypnos building. "Reika, send everything!"
Welp, I'm sorry Takato, you're not Masaru from season 5. Also, if you read the prologue till this chapter, I said I tried to post every two weeks. But I choose to post more than one at first, it just feels better to release some then add one by one or post the whole story in one go, at least that what I felt when watching tv series.
