Chapter five:
When Kaoru does come out he finds Daiki having the kids sitting in the living room like he is having a serious talk with them. So he cautiously moves closer while staying out of sight.
"Kids." Daiki sighs softly actually sounding sad… Though there doesn't seem to be any regret in his voice which does strike Kaoru as odd. "You are probably going to be going to a visit with your other father's family." He admits while Kaoru continues to listen. "I did something that will make things a bit different for awhile. Though I promise that I will make things right with your other father. I let something become known to others and he is upset with me. Not that I am blaming him for being mad at me for it. Just understand that I did what I did for a very good reason."
"What did you do?" Kayson questions clearly not sure what to think of Daiki right now. His eyes scanning for any danger to him and his sister.
"I made another fall for me. I wanted what she had to offer for a business deal to make us more money. However she was going to do some bad things that would have made us not be able to be the family that you two deserve. So I did what I had to in order to protect all of us."
"You mean you brought someone else into your room?" Kayson actually sounds angry. "I've heard of it before from one of the other kids at the orphanage. That they were dropped off there because their mother left with the one she let into her room only for their father to leave them there!" He gets to his feet while Kaoru feels touched by Kayson siding with him. "You broke more than his trust if this is so!"
Daiki sighs as even Rowan looks away sadly. "Look. I am not asking you to be on my side. However, I can promise that you two are never going back to any sort of orphanage or anything like that. One or both of us will still care for you like we have done so. Things just might be a little different."
"I believe you on that at least." Kayson admits to Daiki sitting back down. "After spending so long with you two it is clear to me that neither of you would just leave us in a place to wait for another family. I just would prefer to not be staying with you."
"You won't." Kaoru heads into view causing them all to turn to him in surprise that he was there. He stands there focusing on the children instead of Daiki. "The three of us will be going to my family place. It will be a place where we will be alright."
"Kaoru." Daiki speaks up clearly knowing better than to try any sort of loving nickname.
Kaoru curls his hands into fists and clenches his teeth before he lets his teeth relax. "Don't think that you can talk your way into my arms." He tells Daiki before going over to crouch by the kids. "Let us get packed up and we'll head to my family's place." He leads them away and Daiki stays quiet. He packs up and pauses just after zipping up his suitcase when a voice comes from the doorway.
"I can explain."
"Save it Daiki." Kaoru hisses narrowing his eyes at nothing. "You gave up the rights to my heart when you decided to charm her."
"It was for the deal that could have made us soar higher than we have so far!" Daiki tries to point out careful to not raise his voice or make his tone harsh. "I was doing what I had to for this family. For our legacy. You need to understand. She demanded for it in order for the deal to go through. I had to at least make sure that she couldn't damage us. We can still turn this around if you just remain on my side through this. I will make it up to you I swear. Just understand that I was doing what I had to do. We could win everything from her side and get even more business. Just understand why I had to do what I did."
"Understand?" Kaoru almost flinches at the use of that word. "Understand what?! That you decided to go along with the whole thing instead of saying no in the first place? If you had even thought of that in the first place then we wouldn't even be where we are now. With me having to leave and decide what my next steps are going to be because you have left a tarnish on the name you were meant to polish."
"We all have setbacks in life. Life is cruel and doesn't always turn out the way that we want it to. I have already started to plan how we can make this turn out in our favor. All you need to do is trust me and stick with me through this hard part."
Kaoru spins around to glare at the man that he still loves even with the deep hurt he gets at seeing the other. His eyes meeting with those eyes that he thought he knew yet seem strange to him now. "I did trust you. You broke that trust and showed that you only care about legacy. Failing to even think about how I trusted and loved you. That no matter what happened our connection meant something to you." He looks down and flinches away when Daiki tries to reach for him. "If you had said no to her request then she tried to tarnish us we could have figured out something with our love and trust still intact. You did this to yourself when you decided to act like you were single and brought her into our bed." He grabs his suitcase and hurries past Daiki. He doesn't even turn when Daiki calls for him to wait. He embraces the two children before they head to go into the limo waiting for them.
Soon enough the three are on their way to Kaoru's family mansion.
Kayson is sitting next to Kaoru with his head resting on the man's arm. He is quiet as if not really knowing what to say about all of this.
Rowan is on Kaoru's lap snuggled up against his chest. She fell asleep just a little ago.
Kaoru stares out of the window that is next to him while the scenery goes by. He leans the side of his forehead on the cool glass of the window and he allows some more tears to fall from his eyes.
