"Hum darshakon ko btaty chalain k ab agar contestant Daya ny last target pe perfectly hit kr liya to wo iss under nineteen shooting competition k veejayta kehlayengy…"

A drop of sweat slipped from his forehead stopping near the edge of his right eye; showing how tense he was, a single shot will decide whether he will win or lose? He took a deep breath and clutched the gun with his sweaty right hand tightly. His hand trembled; he tried to calm his nerves down and stop the trembling. When the trembling didn't stop he used his left hand to support his hand. He closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath and opened the eyes again. He took his aim and shoot. Sound of bullet hitting the target was heard.

The crowd broke in wild cheering; they were shouting, hooting and whistling. The bullet had hit the bulls-eye. He looked at the target and smiled. He had won the competition, another victory he had claimed. His hand was still trembling; he looked at his hand and smile with satisfaction. His brother had taught him how to shoot; now he has made his brother proud. All the years of hard work he has put to hone this skill finally paid off. A feeling of contentment washed over him. He has become the shooting champion at the age of fourteen.

"or issi k sath iss saal ka under nineteen shooting competition apny ant ko pohachta hai…or iss saal ka veejayta Mr. Daya shirivastava ko ghoshit kiya jaata hai… Mr. Daya sy nivedan hai k wo munch pr tashreef ly ayein…"

Daya stepped on the stage and received the honor given to him by chief minister of the state; who appreciated his skills, the announcer was also saying something. But his ears were deaf to what people around him were saying. He was lost in the thoughts of how his brother, mother and father; who is in the heaven; will be proud of him. He was exhilarated to show his achievement to his family. He wanted this whole ceremony to be over in a blink so that he could fly to his house. It took another two hours before he could go home. When he left for home it was already 7 P.M. He reached home after 8 as it was the rush hour, till then Abhijeet had already arrived after his duty.

He entered inside quietly; as he had saw Abhijeet's bike in the garage. He came inside the lounge saw him sitting on the sofa, he tip-toed there and placed his hands on the Abhijeet's eyes.

Abhijeet smiled, took his hands in his own and made him sit beside himself: a gaya mera champion?

Daya looked at him with shocked eyes: tumhy kesy pata chala?

Abhijeet chuckled: bhai tera chehra itna chamak raha hai khushi sy to mjhe pata to chalna tha na… (look at his bright and smiley face) tera chehra parhna bht achy sy janta hun… (with a deep smile) khuli kitab ki tarhan hai tu… jissy parhna bilkul bhi mushkil nhi…

Daya in confusion: kiya bhaiya itni mushkil mushkil baatain karty ho, normal baatain kiya karo na yaar…

Abhijeet just ruffled his hair in a smile.

Daya gave him a broad smile while giving him the certificate; he took his medal out and placed it around Abhijeet's neck: or yeh medal mai dedicate krta hun apny piyare (side hugging him) bhaiya ko… jinhony mjhe itni zabardast shooting seekhai…

Abhijeet's heart got full with love and pleasure after seeing the accomplishment of his little baby… he was feeling like his chest has gone broader. Abhijeet gave him his medal back with: yeh tum apny pass he rakho… (Daya took it back and gave a confused look to him, so Abhijeet decided to mess with him) mere pass mera apna hai…

Daya annoyingly retorted: bhalai ka to zamana he nhi hai… aik to mai itny piyar sy tumhy saman dy raha tha… apni jeet ki waja keh raha tha… lekin tum ho k bas… mera Mazak uraty rehty ho… (turned his face to his side) jao mai ab tum sy baat nhi krta…

Abhijeet shook his head "nothing could be done about his dramatic personality"; turned his face towards himself: to phir champ ko kiya chahiye iss achievement pe? (Daya smiled at him) bol kya chahiye… jo mangy ga mily ga… (Pulled his cheeks with) akhir ko itna bara competition jeeta hai mere bhai ny… pury india mai best shooter bn gaya hai… kuch to inam milna chahiye na…

Daya nodded: haan yeh to hai… (proposed) chalo phir na hum aaj bahar khana khany chalty hain… (secretly) Mumma bhi ghar pr nahi hain, kl dopehar tk wapis ayein gi… (Their mother had gone in the funeral of her relative from maternal side for five days. She had cooked food for her sons and with labels had put in the refrigerator. Daya had already called her about his achievement.) … koi kuch nhi kahy ga…

Abhijeet asked: acha to agar Maa ghar pr nhi hai to sahib ko masti sujh rhi hai… bahar ka khana khayein gy… Maa ko pata chala na to phir sahi maza aye ga aapko janab…

Daya assuringly: Mumma ko kuch nhi pata chaly ga… (Trying to convince him) agar tum kuch nhi batao gy to kahan sy pata chaly ga…

Abhijeet still on point: tumhy lagta hai k mai Maa sy kuch bhi chupa skta hun…

Daya had almost gone teary: tumny kaha tha jo mangu ga do gy… ab tum esa nhi kr skty mere sath… (telling him about chances they currently possess) Mumma hain nahi yeh best time hai bahar outing krny ka… (scrunched his nose) wese to Mumma bilkul bahar ka khana nhi khany detin… hr waqt kehti hain (imitating her style) jo khana hai mjhe batao mai bnany k khilaun gi ghar pr… healthy khana… bahar ka kitny gandy tareeqy sy bnta hai sehat k liye bilkul theek nhi hota…

Abhijeet strictly: Daya… behave… Maa jo kehti hai humary achy k liye kehti hai na…

Daya apologized: Sorry na… (pleading) please na Abhi… please ly chalo… (grabbing his Adam's apple tightly swore) pakka yeh last time hai ainda kabhi nai kahun ga…

Abhijeet looked at his innocent face and agreed: theek hai lekin… promise me… yeh last time hai ainda nhi karo gy esy zid…

Daya immediatedy agreed: haan haan pakka promise… this is the last time…

Abhijeet sighed and stood up from the sofa: mai change kr k aata hun tum bhi jao or fresh ho jao…

Daya nodded and stood up; he stopped Abhijeet midway: Boss…

Abhijeet turned his questioned gaze towards him: hmmmm

Daya instantly: wo mjhe shopping bhi krni hai tumhary sath…

Abhijeet glared. Daya cleared his throat: bs thori si he krni hai… (Abhijeet didn't avert his gaze) hehe… please…

Abhijeet took a deep breath and went to his room while nodding his head in no.

Daya jumped in air with a quiet yippee…

Both brothers went out and had fun. They did shopping and had dinner together at a good reputed restaurant. They came back after midnight.

Next day Abhijeet went for his duty, Daya had gone to school. Disha came back at 1 P.M. after her five days long trip.

When Daya returned home, he instantly went inside his room. Sometime later he came out of his room and greeted his mother who was in the kitchen making lunch.

Daya: Good afternoon Mumma…

Disha turned and looked at her baby boy and smiled: Good Afternoon… (lovingly caressed his hair) Congratulations my boy…

Daya in a shy smile: Thank you…

Disha offered: aj kuch special bnati hun mai apny bety k liye lunch main…

Daya felt his stomach growling: nahi Maa aj nahi… (fidgeted with his fingers) maine school mai lunch kr liya tha na…

Disha smiled: wo to kafi dair ho gai na beta… (she glanced at the ceiling like in some kind of thought) esa krti hun palak paneer bna deti hun…

Daya denied: nahi Mumma wo jay na aaj special lunch laya tha ghar sy to wahi khaya hua hai… (tapped his tummy) pait full hai…

Disha was confused on his reaction as it was one of his favorite dishes and he was simply denying it; she shrugged the thought of it: acha… theek hai phir…

Daya nodded and left from there.

At night when Abhijeet returned home, Disha started preparing for dinner side by side chatting with Abhijeet regarding her trip.

At dining, Abhijeet grabbed his seat while Disha left to call Daya for dinner. When she entered inside, she saw him laid on the bed with his hand on the stomach. She worriedly approached him saw him in pain: kya hua Daya?

Daya replied in pain: Mumma pait mai bht dard ho raha hai…

Disha worriedly: esa kiya kha liya aapny… (remembering about lunch) kya kahaya hai aapny Jay k sath lunch main?

Daya nodded his head in no: ku…kuch bhi nhi…

Disha insisted: nahi kuch to khaya hai hai... warna itna dard kyun hota... (telling him) maine jo khan'na bnaya tha usmey to esa kuch nahi tha...

Meantime Abhijeet also arrived on the scene: kya ho gaya Maa itni dair kahan laga di aapny…

He saw Daya in that state and panicked: Kya hua hai Daya ko… (came in front of him)

Disha replied with knitted eyebrows in tension: pata nahi… (again asked him strictly) Daya maine kuch poocha hai tumse… (uncompromisingly asked) esa kya khaya hai jo itna pait dard ho gaya achanak…

When the last sentence fell on Abhijeet's year his posture got straightened. He understood that any moment from now he will also be caught up in the wrath of her mother. The mother again showed her furious eyes to her younger son. The son shrunk into the corner of the bed and looked at his big bro for help; who with eyes told to calm down, he will take care of it. Mother had noticed all the silent talks happened between them. Now her attention changed towards her elder son; this time she didn't asked question with her mouth but used her eyes instead to do the job.

The elder cleared his already cleared throat; he can't tell lies to his mother, a single glare from her is enough for him to speak like a well-trained parrot. But for his brother's sake he tried: kuch nahi khaya maa iss ny esa wesa... sara aapky hath ka bna hua khana he khaya tha…

Mother's glare intensified which made him uneasy; he again tried but stuttered: ha… haan… wo… sub..subah ko…bread… (confirming) haan wo bread… bread khai thi na… usi usi sy hua hoga… baasi dy di hogi…

Daya also nodded while holding his stomach in pain.

Disha with a smirk: mjhe pata nahi tha k mera bara beta haklata bhi hai… (eying him dangerously) Maa sy jhoot bolo gy ab… (in anger) itny bary ho gaye ho?

This was enough for Abhijeet to down his head in embarrassment. Disha again asked the same query with sternness in her voice: ab btao gy bhi ya moharat nikalwaun uss k liye?

Abhijeet in same posture nodded his head in yes. He told him the whole without stuttering.

Disha looked at both in anger: hr wakt manmani ki soojhti hai dono ko… jub kisi baat sy mana kiya hai to koi wajah he hoti hai na… (shaking head negatively) lekin nahi… dekh liya na Maa ki baat na man'ny ka nateeja… (glared Daya) ho gaya shok pura bahar ka khan'na khan'ny ka… pait bhar gaya? (Daya downed his head in same pose) issi waja sy mana kiya hua hai bahar ka khan'na…

She went out of the room in anger…

Abhijeet looked at her way and turned her head towards Daya; first he decided to scold Daya on this but stopped seeing his face shriveled in pain. He just sat beside him, took his head in his own lap and caressed his head to sooth him a little. Moments later mother came with syrup in her hands. She made him drink that forcefully.

After medicine she said with a cold tone: araam karo… (chewing words) mai khichidi laati hun abhi bna k…

Daya looked at him in shocked eyes. Disha in same tone: ab jesi krni wesi bharni… (burningly) or khao bahar ka khan'na… (taunted) ab khan'na ghar ki khichidi mazy sy… hunh… (left the room with a murmmer) bahar ka khan'na khayein gy…

Daya gave a pleading look to Abhijeet: bhaiya… mai kesy khaun ga khichidi… (tears pouring out of his eyes) aapko pata hai na khichidi nhi utarti mere galy sy…

Abhijeet just shrugged: beta khichidi to khan'ni pary gi… (told in a strong tone) mai ab phir sy daant nhi sun'ny waala maa ki…

Daya teary: karwi dawai bhi to khai haina… (pleaded) khichidi rehny do…

Abhijeet waived him off with: na bhai na… khichidi to khani pary gi… iss mamly may mai koi madat nhi kr skta tumhari...

Daya angrily took his head out of his lap and put it on the pillow while closed eyes tightly. After half an hour later mother came in with khichidi… She forcefully fed him… While Daya was crying all the way through…
