Mario Kart at 30: Coin Runners Match

On a beautiful afternoon at Battle Stadium, Mario and Luigi are enjoying the sights of the stadium. Mario smiled and said, "I can't believe that we're in Battle Stadium from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe."

"That's right, bro," Luigi replied, "This is a great stadium for Battle Mode and since we're celebrating Mario Kart's 30th anniversary, I think we should do a Coin Runners match to commemorate this occasion. Are you with me?"

"I'm with you 100%. Let's have it right here, right now!"

"Great! Now all we need is a referee and we're good to go! Too bad Lakitu isn't here with us and after all, he did a great job organizing these amazing battles for us during these 30 years."

"I know. Now who will assume the role of the referee?"

"Maybe I can do it," Peach said as she came into the stadium with her pink referee suit.

"Hey there, Peach." Luigi said to her, "What brings you here?"

"I just heard that you're having a Coin Runners match to honor thirty years of Mario Kart and so, I decided to be the referee for this amazing occasion," Peach replied with a smile, "So are you ready to have some fun, boys?"

"You know it, princess." Mario said with a thumbs up.

"Great! Head on over to your karts and let's do this!"

So Mario and Luigi ran to their Pipe Frames as they prepare for battle with the crowd cheering.

Peach took out her signal lights and said, "Now you know how the battle works, guys. Just get as many coins as you can within three minutes while using your items. The person with the most coins at the end of the game, wins. Got it?"

"Got it," Mario and Luigi replied.

"All right, then! Good luck to the both of you and have fun. Toad, is everything ready with the coins and the scoreboard?"

Toad smiled at her and said with a thumbs up, "The coins are in place and the scoreboard is set for three minutes. We're ready to battle, princess."

Peach agreed with him as she turned to the Mario Bros. Then she said to them, "Well Mario and Luigi, this is it! Once you see the green light, the battle will begin. Ready?"

"Let's-a go!" Mario and Luigi replied at the same time.

"All right, then! To honor thirty years of Mario Kart, let the Coin Runners battle between the Mario Bros... BEGIN!"

With the word shouted, Peach flipped the switch on the signal as Mario and Luigi turned their attention at the lights and while they are waiting for the green light, the crowd grew silent. It is time to battle.

With the light turned green, the battle is now officially underway as Mario and Luigi collected their first coin. Peach smiled at the sight and said, "Have fun, Mario Bros."

Mario and Luigi are enjoying a great battle as they used items to hit each other while collecting coins along the way.

After two minutes of battling, the Final Lap fanfare has been played, which signals the final sixty seconds of the match. Peach heard that sound and said, "One minute left, guys! Just one more minute to go!"

Mario and Luigi kept on going as the scoreboard continues to add up the coins they've earned during the game.

Just then, the timer turned yellow. Peach looked at the clock and said, "Thirty seconds!"

The entire stadium is cheering with excitement for these two amazing brothers as the battle is about to end. Just a few more seconds until the final buzzer sounds.

"Twenty seconds," Peach announced as Mario and Luigi collected their next coin, "Audience, would you like to join me in the final countdown?"

The entire stadium agreed with her as the timer is now flashing red. It all comes down to this: The final ten seconds.

Mario and Luigi heard that sound as they finished the match with plenty of coins in their karts.

Peach came to them and said, "That was awesome, guys."

"Thanks, Peach," Mario and Luigi said with a smile.

"Both of you did a great job out there and for that, I congratulate you for an amazing battle. Now, Toad is busy counting up the coins so, do you have anything you like to say in honor of Mario Kart's 30th anniversary?"

"Of course," Mario replied with a smile, "We started this amazing tournament in 1992 and now, here we are at our thirtieth anniversary. I would like to thank my friends, everyone at Nintendo, and to all of you for supporting us during these thirty years. You helped us make Mario Kart the biggest racing tournament and we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you so much! Here's to thirty years of Mario Kart!"

When Mario was done, the entire stadium gave him a huge standing ovation for his amazing speech. Peach smiled and said "That was an awesome speech, Mario."

"Thanks, princess," Mario replied, "I want to make this very special because we've been doing this for thirty years."

"I see. Well then, let's see if everything is ready for the final results. Are you finished counting, Toad?"

"All done, Peach," Toad replied, "The coins have been counted and the final results are in. May I announce it?"

Peach smiled at him and said, "Go ahead."

"All right, then! Mario and Luigi, direct your attention at the scoreboard!"

Mario and Luigi looked at the board as they await the final score. Toad smiled and said, "After counting up the coins, the final score of this game's Coin Runners is..."

Mario and Luigi held on to each other as the drum roll began. Everything they done so far leads up to this exciting moment, the final results.

After a few moments of waiting, the scoreboard has made its decision. Toad looked at the board, took a deep breath and then...

The scores are in.

"30 to 30! That means... IT'S A TIE!"

With the words shouted, Mario and Luigi hugged each other as the Coin Runners match ends in a tie. Peach and Toad came to them as they share a group hug with the crowd cheering for them. It has been a special day for Mario Bros. as they celebrate thirty years of Mario Kart.
