Toad and Toadette's Ice Hockey Game
On a beautiful winter afternoon in Peach's Castle, Toad and Toadette are enjoying some ice skating in the ice rink when suddenly, Toad has an idea. He said, "Do you want to have an ice hockey match?"
"Sure," Toadette replied with a smile, "I love to play some ice hockey and good thing we have some hockey sticks before we got here. Let's do this!"
"Alright, then! Now all we need is a referee and we're good to go. Too bad we don't have one."
Then they heard a voice coming in and said, "Did somebody called for a referee?"
"Hey there, Toadsworth," Toad said with a smile, "What are you doing here?"
"I just heard that you're going to play some ice hockey and of course, you can't have an official game without a referee and good thing I came in well prepared for this amazing occasion," Toadsworth replied as he came in with his referee suit, "Now then, are you ready to have some fun?"
"You know it," Toad and Toadette said with a thumbs up.
"All right, then. Head on over to center ice and let's get ready to play."
With that, Toad and Toadette came center ice as Toadsworth came to them with an official Mushroom Kingdom puck. He smiled at them and said, "All right, you two. This is going to be an official one-on-one match with only five minutes. All you have to do is get the puck into the opponent's net to score a goal and whoever has the most when the final buzzer sounds, wins. Got it?"
Both players nod in agreement as they await the faceoff.
"Okay, then! Scoreboard, can we have five minutes on the clock if you would please?"
The scoreboard agreed with Toadsworth as the timer is set for five minutes along with the score and with that, the game is about to begin.
Toadsworth looked at them and said, "Well guys, this is it. Are you ready to play some ice hockey?"
"Ready," Toad and Toadette replied with a smile.
"All right, then! I'm going to drop this puck on the count of three. Good luck to the both of you and have fun. So without further ado, the game will begin in three..."
Toad took his stance.
"Two..."
Toadette smiled at him as she took her stance.
"One..."
Both Toads held out their sticks as they await the signal to drop the puck.
Toadsworth smiled at them, took a deep breath and then...
It is time.
"START!"
DROP!
With the word shouted, Toadsworth dropped the puck and the game is now officially underway as Toad won the faceoff with a nice shot.
Toad is skating to the blue goal with the puck and when he got there, Toadette stopped him from scoring as she skates to the red goal. Toadsworth saw it and said, "Nice block by Toadette! Looks like we're off to a great start, folks!"
When Toadette got to the red goal, she slapped the puck and scored the game's first goal as a buzzer sounded to signify it.
"Goal, Toadette," Toadsworth announced as the scoreboard shows 1-0 in favor of Toadette.
Then it was time for the second faceoff at center ice with Toadsworth holding the puck in his hand. He smiled and said, "So far, the score is one to nothing with Toadette in the lead right now. There's still 3:49 left in the game so anything can still happen in ice hockey. Ready for the faceoff?"
"Let's do it," Toad and Toadette replied as they took their stance.
"Then let's keep going!"
With that, the puck was dropped and the game continues on.
This time Toadette took the puck to start the second play when suddenly, Toad stole it and with a perfect slapshot, he tied the game as the puck reached the red goal to make it official.
"It's a goal for Toad and this game is tied at one!" Toadsworth announced as the scoreboard updates the score to 1-1 with three minutes left to play.
Just then, another faceoff took place at center ice with Toadsworth dropping the puck on the Toads for the third time.
Toad and Toadette are having a great time as they kept on going and just like that, the score is now tied at two with only fifteen seconds left thanks to the goals by them.
"Wow! What a game this has been," Toadsworth announced as he came to the center with the puck, "Both of you did a great job and with only fifteen seconds left, this next goal could decide the match. Now is there anything you would like to say before I drop the puck?"
"I sure do," Toad answered, "I love this game because it is fun and exciting. From the first faceoff to the final buzzer, hockey is all about teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship."
"The same goes for me," Toadette added, "Winning and losing is a good thing too because you're having fun when you're playing sports and that is what we're doing right now so, let's finish this game!"
"I agree with you, Toadette!"
Then they turn to Toadsworth and said, "Toadsworth, we're ready!"
Toadsworth smiled at them and said, "All right, then! With the game tied at two with only fifteen seconds left, it is time for the final faceoff of the match! Ready..."
Both players looked at each other, took a deep breath and then...
The moment came.
DROP!
Toadsworth released his hand and the puck was dropped at center ice for the last time.
Toad took it and started skating his way to the goal as the timer shows the final ten seconds before taking his final shot. Toadette saw it heading for the goal and raced her way to stop him from scoring the winning goal.
Toadsworth looked at clock and decided to start the final countdown. It all comes down to this, the final five seconds.
"5..."
"4..."
"3..."
"2..."
"1..."
Toadette jumped for the puck and then...
BUZZ!
WHOOSH!
The puck sailed past her and into the goal just as the final buzzer went off to signify the end of the match.
Toadsworth saw it all and with a huge smile...
He made his final announcement.
"GOAL AND THAT'S THE GAME! TOAD IS THE WINNER!"
It's official! Toad has won with a game-winning goal as the scoreboard updates the score to make it 3-2.
Toadette came to him and said, "Great game, Toad!"
"Thanks, Toadette," Toad replied with a smile as they shook hands for great sportstoadship. "I'm so glad that I scored the winning shot just in time."
"You sure did, buddy. Come on, let's go have some hot chocolate with some marshmallows. My treat!"
"You got it!"
"Can I come, too? I could go for some warm chocolate after a nice hockey game." Toadsworth said with a smile.
"Sure." Toad and Toadette replied with a thumbs up.
And so, Toad, Toadette, and Toadsworth went to the kitchen to get some hot chocolate. What a great winter day for the Toads.
