Flameout Chapter 18
Jane was the first to wake up, she smiled as she looked at Maura who was now the little spoon. Jane moved some strands of Maura's hair from her neck and began to plant small kisses on Maura's neck. She heard Maura hum quickly followed by, "Good morning, Jane."
"Good morning Maur. That was the best night of sleep I have had in months. Thank you!" Jane said as she turned Maura's head towards her so she could kiss her on the lips.
As Jane pulled away to catch her breath, Maura replied, "Jane, you don't have to thank me. I wanted to have you close to me, all night. I feel so safe in your arms."
"I enjoy spending time with you as well. I am glad you feel safe with me." Jane informed Maura as she received a text message for Gen, her Chief of Police. "Jane, only essential personnel are required to report, so enjoy your day off. No need to reply. Call Maura, spend time with her and the children!"
Jane read Maura the text and Maura asked quietly, "Can you spend the day with me and the children?" It had snowed the night before. There was still a medical examiner working at BPD. The Governor had sent an email to BPD to let them know that Maura would be given the time off between Christmas and New Year's due to the snow storm that was coming. She was just starting her new job, Gen agreed that Maura should spend the time with her children.
"I would love that. First, I need coffee and something to eat. Should we take the children out to eat or cook something here?"
"We can cook here. We should let the children sleep. We can get up though and make some coffee and figure out what to make for breakfast." Maura stated as she sat up. Jane sat up and slid over so that she was sitting next to Maura on the bed.
"That sounds like a plan, right now though, I have to go to the bathroom." Jane stated as she rose and walked to the bathroom. When she came out of the bathroom, she found that Maura had already went downstairs. Jane thought to herself, 'hopefully she is getting the coffee ready.' Jane needed coffee. She went downstairs and wrapped her arms around Maura's midsection as Maura made the coffee. This woman got her, she knew her need for coffee first thing in the morning.
When Maura handed Jane her cup of coffee, Jane gave her a quick kiss on the lips before she took a heavy sip of her coffee. "Thanks, Maur. It is prepared just like I like it."
"I pay attention Jane." She gave Jane a quick kiss and then started pulling out ingredients for breakfast.
"What are we making?" Jane asked as she looked at the ingredients on the counter.
"Bacon, eggs and pancakes."
"Really, we are cooking bacon? You always said it was bad for me to eat." Jane remembered Maura seeing bacon on her plate during one of their Skype calls and calling her out on it. Jane made sure to not have a plate of food around when she was Skyping with Maura.
"I know, however, you can eat it once in a while, just not every day like you seem to like to do." Maura smiled as Jane frowned, she was discovered. Jane knew she would have to eat healthier if she wanted Maura in her life, and she wanted Maura in her life.
Just as Jane was flipping the last of the pancakes, Charlie and Bella came downstairs. The children both hugged their mother and then Jane. Charlie went to the patio door and looked out and asked, "Mom, it snowed last night. Can we go out and play in the snow?"
Bella walked over and opened the curtains that were closed over the patio doors. "Look how the sun is glistening on the snow. Isn't it beautiful?"
Jane walked over and looked out the door, "It is beautiful, that is just the right amount of snow to make snow angels. Would you like to make snow angels with me?" Both children looked at her with a puzzled expression. "Don't tell me you haven't made snow angels?"
Charlie being somewhat of a little smart ass said, "Okay, I won't tell you. Mommy, what is a snow angel?" He then asked his mother.
"Let's have breakfast first and then we can go outside and learn how to make snow angels." Jane and the children smiled at Maura as she served them their breakfast.
Fifteen minutes later, the children were excused so that they could get their jackets and boots. Jane and Maura quickly cleaned up and then grabbed their jackets and boots. The children were first out the door and quickly bent down and each made a snowball and threw them at Jane as she walked out the door. "Oh, is that how this is going to be." Jane said as she bent down and made snowballs to throw at the children.
Maura stood back so that she wouldn't get hit by the snowballs. She took out her phone and took some pictures of the children playing with Jane. Jane was like a big kid so the children enjoying having her around. She also shot some video so she could relieve the moments later.
As the children and Jane were running around the backyard throwing snowballs at each other, Charlie ran into Jane and they fell to the ground. Charlie was on top of Jane and Jane said, "I guess now is a perfect time to show you how to make a snow angel."
Jane was on her back and asked Charlie, "Lay on your back." Charlie did as he was told and then Jane told him, "Place your arms out to the side." Charlie once again did as he was told. Bella not wanting to be left out, quickly laid down on the other side of Jane and put her arms out to her side. "Now move her arms and legs like you are doing jumping jacks." Jane and both children did what Jane said and the children starting laughing. They were enjoying themselves.
"Mommy, you should come make snow angels with us!" Bella told her mother.
Maura shook her head, "I'm fine watching the three of you."
"Oh, come on mommy, have a little fun with us."
"Ya Maur, come on have some fun with us." Jane said as she rose to go get Maura to join them.
"Jane, I am fine watching."
"No, no Maur, you need to join us. Jane pulled Maura's phone from her hand and stuffed it quickly in Maura's jacket pocket. She then proceeded to pull Maura out to where they were making their snow angels. She fell backwards and let Maura fall on top of her. She then moved their arms and legs and made a snow angel. Maura climbed off of Jane and stood up and pulled Jane up to look at their snow angels. Maura had a small tear coming down her cheek that Jane quickly wiped away as she asked Maura, "Are you okay, Maur? I didn't hurt you, did I? I was trying to be careful."
"No Jane, you didn't hurt me, I am happy, that was a happy tear. The children are happy. You made them laugh and have fun doing something that I would not have thought of doing with them." Jane pulled Maura into a hug as several snowballs hit them.
With the addition of the snow storm, Maura and Jane found themselves with some days off between Christmas and New Year's Day. Maura updated the group calendar that she posted online. Skye looked at the calendar later that day, knowing that Maura's schedule could change. She sent a text to Maura and volunteered to take the children for two days so that Jane and Maura could have some alone time.
After reading Skye's text Maura asked Jane, "Would you like to spend our two child free days off together? We can go somewhere away from Boston, if you would like. Skye already said she is taking the children so we can spend some quality alone time together." Maura had been thinking of how to get Jane alone and this played right into her plans. Now she just had to get Jane to agree to her plans.
Maura was ready to move their relationship to the next level. She still had weekly sessions with her therapist, Jennifer. The two ladies had talked about when Maura might think that she was ready for the next step. She knew being with Jane would be different. She didn't really have anyone to talk to about her relationship with Jane. She had asked Jennifer and she had agreed that they would continue their sessions via Skype. Maura would contact Jennifer and let her know when she needed to chat.
Maura had thought about talking with Nina or Amelia but concluded that Jennifer would be the better person for her to talk with. Jennifer was a professional therapist and had dealt with this type of situation before.
Jane didn't hesitate to respond, "I would love that Maur. I know things are crazy here with my family and such, so spending time alone with you away from Boston would be great. Actually, we don't even have to leave Boston if you don't want to, we can hunker down in a hotel or something."
Maura smiled, she liked that idea. "Do you have a specific hotel in mind?"
"No, no I do not. I do not frequent hotels here in Boston." Jane realized that Maura was now ready to move their relationship to the next step. That pleased her. She had been patient knowing that Maura had never been in a relationship with a woman before.
Jane had loved taking the time to get to know Maura better. Their text messages, phone, and Skype video calls had help them build their friendship while they had been separated from each other. Jane still couldn't believe that Maura had hidden the fact that she and the children were moving back to Boston from her.
She wished she had the opportunity to meet Maura's parents but sadly they had been killed in a car accident a year before Maura had lost her husband. Jane couldn't image going through such pain, losing three people that you loved within a year of each other. Now she understood why Maura had to leave Boston. She was thankful that she had Skye to help her with the children. It was very emotional when Maura told her about her husband's and parents' death.
After a few minutes, Maura looked at Jane and told her, "I know the perfect place for us to go. I will make all the arrangements." Maura informed Jane. Maura would open up her parent's house. When her parents had both tragically passed away, Maura and Sam didn't know what to do with the house, so they just had the furniture covered and left it. Staff from the management company made sure that the house did not fall into disrepair.
When the time came, Maura drove Jane to the surprise location. When she pulled the car into the driveway twenty minutes later, she told Jane, "I grew up in this house and after my parents passed away, we decided to close up the house and I have not been back to this house since. Mainly because after Sam passed away, I moved to Syracuse. I sold my house but kept my parents' house."
Maura had never told Jane about her parent's house. It had slipped Maura's mind, so now Maura thought that this would be the perfect time to show Jane her parent's house. Maura had called the management company and arranged for the house to be opened up and for the kitchen to be fully stocked.
She would take Jane to her parent's house for their special get away. She asked if her favorite butler and maid would be available and if she could hire them, not just for the two days but until they no longer wanted to be in her employ.
When the Isles passed away and Sam and Maura decided to keep the house and cars and have the management company take care of them for them, the management company had employed Joseph, the butler, and Sarah, the maid, to look after the house and cars. At the time Maura was too devasted to know the details of what went on with the house and their employees. The management company took care of all the details based on their conversation with the lawyer.
Joseph had been looking after the cars knowing how much they meant to Mr. Isles. He knew where the maintenance records were located and which cars needed to be driven when. Mr. Isles had been very adamant about keeping the cars in working order and Joseph would follow that schedule.
The house had a long driveway so Joseph was able to drive the cars without leaving the property. He merely drove them to the end of the driveway and back so that the tires moved and the fluids in the car circulated. He had always enjoyed talking with Mr. Isles about the cars. The insurance had been dropped down to the bare minimum so he knew he shouldn't take the cars off the property.
Sarah was the house manager, making sure that the grass was mowed and that all maintenance was performed in a timely manner, just like Mrs. Isles had instructed her years ago when she first started working for the Isles family.
Joseph and Sarah were pleased that they would be working for Maura. The management company had them come in and sign their new employment contracts. They would no longer be working for the management company. They both received a bonus upon signing their new work contracts. Maura was so happy, she knew they would be discrete, as they always had been when working for her parents.
Joseph greeted them when they stepped out of the car. "Good afternoon, Dr. Isles and Miss Rizzoli."
"Good afternoon, Joseph. It is so nice to see you again. Thank you for taking care of the house and cars."
"It was my pleasure, your father loved his cars all most as much as your mother loved this house. Sarah and I were honored that you allowed us to stay in your family's employment." Joseph stated as he grabbed their bags. Jane being Jane tried to help but Joseph insisted on handling the bags himself.
They walked into the house and were greeted by Sarah, "Good afternoon, Dr. Isles and Miss Rizzoli."
"Both of you, please call me Maura and this is Jane."
Joseph placed the bags at the bottom of the stairs and asked, "Maura, where would you like me to place your bags, in the master bedroom or in your bedroom?"
"We will take care of them, Joseph, thank you."
"Maura, I have light snacks available now and dinner will be ready in approximately one hour."
"Jane and I will be here for two days, however I don't want you to feel like you have to cater to us. After dinner tonight why don't the two you take the next two days off and enjoy the time with your families."
"Thank you." They both said as they retreated and returned to work.
Maura and Jane sat down in the living room and then Maura shared with Jane her memories from eight years ago.
Eight Years Ago
Maura was sitting on the couch rocking baby Bella, when she heard the doorbell. Knowing that Sam was upstairs giving Charlie a bath, she strapped Bella in her car seat which was on the coffee table and went to answer the door. She had wondered who would be coming to their house after eight at night knowing that they had two small children. When Maura looked through the peep hole she saw two Boston police officers standing on the other side of the door.
Maura opened the door and before she could greet the officers the tall officer asked, "Are you Dr. Maura Isles?"
Maura was puzzled and replied, "Yes, I am, how may I help you?"
"Ma'am, is anyone else home with you?" The tall officer continued.
"Yes, my husband is upstairs with our son."
"Can you have him come downstairs please?" The tall officer asked.
"Yes, please come in and I will go get him." The officers came in and waited until Maura returned with Sam and a very wet Charlie, who was wrapped up in a towel.
Sam and Maura sat on the couch with their two children. Maura had picked Bella up when she entered the living room again.
The tall officer then spoke again, "I am sorry to inform you that your parents, Arthur and Constance Isles were killed in an automobile accident a little while ago."
Maura immediately started to cry, her parents had just been at their house for dinner. They were trying to spend as much time as possible with their grandchildren. Sam pulled Maura into a tight hug as Maura started to sob.
The shorter officer presented Sam with a card with all the contact information and told him, "We will need you to come to the hospital and identify their bodies. Please don't hesitate to call one of us if you have any questions or would like any assistance."
"Thank you." Sam said as he escorted the officers to the front door.
The next day, Sam and Maura went to the hospital and identified Arthur and Constance's bodies. When Sam and Maura stepped outside the door after identifying the bodies, Maura broke down. Sam just leaned up against the wall and pulled Maura into him and held her tight. He knew that she needed a few minutes to come to terms with the fact that she had truly lost both of her adoptive parents.
When Maura felt like she could function again they contacted their lawyer, who offer to handle all the arrangements per Arthur and Constance's wishes which were on file with him.
Arthur and Constance's funeral was held the next weekend. Maura then found herself in charge of the Isles Foundation. Constance was the President of the Isles Foundation and upon her death, Maura, as their only child, automatically was appointed as the President of the Isles Foundation. Maura told Sam, "Sam, I am not ready to take on that responsibility."
Sam took a moment before he replied, "Maura, you and your mother have talked about that possibility."
Maura smiled at him knowing that he was right, "I know, I just didn't think it would come so soon. I expected that my parents would live for many years to come."
"I know, we also need to talk about what you would like to do with their house and cars."
"I know I don't want to sell anything of theirs, that is the house I grew up in and I need time to think about that. Those cars are, were, my father's pride and joy, well besides me, he always made sure to tell me that I was his pride and joy and that the cars were his second love, well after my mother."
"That is fine, we don't have to make any decisions right now. We can have the management company that your lawyer works with take care of the house and the cars until we decide what we would like to do with them. I know how important the house and the cars are to you."
"Thank you!"
"Anytime babe. Your happiness is paramount to me."
Less than a year later, Maura lost her husband, Sam. She was devasted. She didn't even want to be in Boston anymore. That is when she accepted the offer to work in Syracuse. She sold her and Sam's house and move to Syracuse within a few months. She still didn't know what to do with her parents' house and cars so she just let the management company continue to take care of them.
After their conversation, they rose so that Maura could give Jane a quick tour of the house. Maura didn't pack much which surprised Jane. Jane knew that Maura usually packed quite a bit of things just for one day, so knowing that they would be away from their belongings for two days, she was surprised.
They deposited their bags in Maura's room. Maura didn't feel comfortable staying in her parents' room and Jane understood. Maura's room was plenty big for the two of them. Plus, she had her own bathroom. It was like a second master.
"Jane, can you sit down for a minute, there is something I want to talk to you about?"
"Sure, Maur. What's up?"
Maura pulled something out of her bag and hide it behind her back as she walked over to the bed and sat down beside Jane. "I am ready for us to take our relationship to the next level. I have been thinking about it for a few months now and …" Maura pulled the item out from behind her back and opens the book to a bookmarked page. "I would like to try this."
Jane couldn't believe what she was seeing. Maura had a book of lesbian sexual positions and she had several pages bookmarked. "Maur, have you been studying this book?"
Maura got shy all of a sudden and quietly replied, "Yes, I wanted to know what I was supposed to do. I want for you to enjoy making love with me. I have no experience and I just wanted to pleased you."
"Maur, you didn't have to studying. I could've taught you everything you need to know to please me and yourself. I appreciate you taking the time to learn. Can I look through the book?"
Maura pulled the book back from Jane, "You are not going to make fun of me, are you?"
"No way babe, no one had ever been so determined to please me before. I want our first time to be special, but I do not want you to feel pressured. We do not have do make love if you aren't ready. If we start and you change your mind just tell me. I will not be upset. I want you to be comfortable." Maura reached over and kissed Jane. She was happy that Jane was so understanding. However, she wanted to make love to Jane. She wanted to please Jane. She was ready.
Jane took a few minutes to look over the book once Maura handed it to her. Jane closed the book and put it on the nightstand. She pulled Maura up and kissed her. She stepped back and moved her hand under Maura's shirt so that her hand touched Maura's stomach. Maura shivered at the touch but then took comfort in Jane's touch.
Maura knew that they couldn't do anything right now as it was almost time for dinner and knowing Sarah, she would have quite the spread for them to enjoy. They went downstairs and Maura showed Jane her father's cars while they waited for dinner to be ready.
Jane was amazed at the collection of cars. All British, she guessed that Arthur Isles liked British cars. Maura told Jane, "We can drive them if would like."
"Truth be told I would be afraid of damaging them."
"I always had the same feeling, however, to date I have never even put a scratch on any of them. My father always loved when Sam showed an interest in them and they would often go for a ride in them when we came over to visit my parents."
Sarah stepped into the garage to let them know that dinner was ready. They all went back into the house and had dinner. Maura insisted that Joseph and Sarah sat with them and ate dinner. After dinner, Sarah stated that she would clean up and then go home. Joseph helped her and within half an hour they had both left the house.
Knowing that they were alone, Jane and Maura went back upstairs and continued where they had left off. Standing by the bed, Jane moved her hand around to Maura's lower back and tugged at the blouse while she also tugged at the front. Maura allowed her to remove the blouse. She tossed it into the chair on the side of the bed.
Jane admired Maura's exposed body, she began kissing her exposed skin. Maura reached for the buttons on Jane's shirt and started unbuttoning them. She slid the shirt off of Jane and tossed it on the chair to join her blouse. Maura also began kissing Jane's exposed skin as she tugged up on Jane's undershirt. Jane quickly removed it.
They repeated the pattern to remove their pants. When they were both only in their underwear, Jane pulled Maura onto the bed. As they laid on the bed, they had a brief make out session. Their hands began to roam over each other's bodies.
Maura's breath quicken when Jane moved a finger under one of the cups of her bra. Maura didn't attempt to stop her so Jane continued. She pulled the cup up to fully expose the breast. She moved so that she could kiss Maura's nipple. Jane then sucked on Maura's nipple. Maura loved the sensation and reached behind and undid her bra and let the straps fall down her arms. Jane removed Maura's bra and then removed her own. Jane then leaned in and kissed and then sucked on Maura's other breast.
Maura was a little overwhelmed but didn't want to stop. It is not like she hadn't experienced someone kissing and sucking on her breasts but never with the tenderness that Jane was showing her. They spent the next half an hour exploring each other's bodies. Jane took the initiative to move one of her fingers to the rim of Maura's panties. She gave a slight tug and Maura raised her rear end enough to allow Jane to pull her panties down. Jane them removed her own panties and let Maura get used to the fact that they were both laying there naked before they did anything else.
Jane asked her, "Are you okay, Maur? Do you want me to stop, we don't have to continue. Just being here with you is enough for me."
Maura didn't hesitate responding, "I am fine, Jane, thank you for asking. I appreciate you checking in with me. I am ready, Jane. Please don't worry."
"Okay Maura, if at any point you do want to stop, just let me know."
Jane gently moved her fingers down to Maura's core and after a few moments she used one finger to enter Maura. When she felt that Maura was ready, she added a second finger. Maura wrapped her fingers into Jane's hair. She was enjoying what Jane was doing to her. Maura wanted to kiss Jane so she moved her mouth so that she could kiss Jane while Jane moved her fingers in and out of her at a quick pace. It didn't take long for Maura to experience her first orgasm with Jane.
When Maura's body settled down, Maura wanted to do the same to Jane so she let Jane walk her through the steps. Maura was happy that Jane was teaching her. It is one thing to read about doing this in a book but actually performing the action was different.
It was several hours later before they curled up into each other and fell asleep with smiles on their faces. Jane had her arm wrapped around Maura in a protective mode. Maura was laying half on top of Jane with her hand resting on Jane's abs. She was fascinated with Jane's abs. Maura was happy. Jane was happy. They were both exhausted.
