Summary:

"Kyra, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Tom and Kyra decide to stay in Malta and find Alex.

.

Notes:

Set during Season 3, Episode 4.

A short, slightly cheesy piece because I really do love Tom and think there's a wonderful Kyra/Tom friendship in the works.

Title shamelessly stolen from Herman Hupfeld's As Time Goes By, performed by Dooley Wilson in the 1942 film, Casablanca. Opening line taken directly from season three, episode four.

"You're right. We can't leave him. Like you said, we're the secret weapon. So we're going to find Alex, and we're going to get him out."

.

Tom almost thinks that he might love her in that moment. But the moment passes and is quickly replaced by an all encompassing wave of relief that he's not in this alone, that Kyra cares for and worries about Alex as much as he does, is willing to do what it takes – including escaping border control and a violent espionage group – to find and help him.

They swing their bags over their shoulders and head for the exit.

He thinks back to when he first met Kyra. Privately he'd always called her 'scary Kyra' and had never entirely understood Alex's friendship with her. But he's come to know her recently, come to like her. She's cutting and dry, yes, but she's also witty and clever and surprisingly fun.

They make their way back out into the Maltese sun.

"Kyra, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

"We're in Valletta, not Casablanca."

He grins, mostly just glad she got the reference.
