CHAPTER 13: A TALK ABOUT WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT...
MARTY'S LIVING ROOM...
"Kens...wait." Marty groaned and sat up with difficulty. "What's wrong?" Kensi asked in confusion.
"We've only been on two dates, Princess. I want this...you know I do, but I want us to wait, okay?" Marty asked and Kensi looked at him in shock.
"I'm sure with other girlfriends you slept with them on the first date." Kensi said looking into his eyes.
"You're right I did sometimes, but with you and me...with us. I want this to be different Kensi. This is you and me...I don't want this to happen to soon. I want to be with you more then anything in the world, but I want more to this relationship...more to our 'thing' then just sex between us." Marty said having a hard time looking at her now.
"What have you done with the Marty Deeks I've known for the past four years?" Kensi asked in shock and Marty finally met her eyes.
"I told you I want things to be different with us...other women haven meant nothing compared to you. Because I feel like you're the one I've been waiting for." Marty confessed and Kensi stared at him stunned.
"Okay...so we'll know when the time is right?" Kensi asked him a little disappointed that he didn't want to take things further right now, but understood at the same time.
"Yeah, we'll know when we're ready to take the next step." Marty told her with a nod. "I can't believe this. You could never say what you meant and now we're having a conversation about the future." Kensi said with a smile.
"So you have thought about a future for us? How far have you gone...just dating with sex or maybe..."
Marty got a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
"...Maybe you've thought about us getting married and having a family together." Marty said the grin never leaving his face.
"Marty...don't joke about that, okay? You said we would take this one date at a time." Kensi reminded him. "I wasn't joking, Kens. Have you thought about what would happen if we ever crossed the line and got into a relationship?" Marty asked and Kensi looked around the room, before finally looking back at him.
"Maybe." Kensi said at last. "Oh, so you have thought about us getting married and having kids? So do you want me to help you have kids someday?" Marty teased, but the smile left his face and was replaced by a serious look.
"Marty, you just said you want to slow things down between us. How is it taking it slow if you're joking about us having kids someday?" Kensi asked. "Actually, I wasn't joking. Because I think about it all the time when I think about you and the future we might have someday. Remember when we were undercover as Justin and Melissa? I offered to father any children you might want then and I haven't changed my mind. I just want us to go on a few more dates and see where the future takes us." Marty replied.
"I thought you were just playing the undercover husband when you offered to father my children..." Kensi said looking at him. "Nope, because you brought in the 'partner's survey' for romantic partner's, Kensalina." Marty said looking at her and took her hand in his.
"I'm still scared something could happen to one of us, Marty. If we have kids and both of us got killed in the field one day...what would happen to them?" Kensi asked.
"I can't promise that something won't happen, but I can say that we try our best o make sure it doesn't happen. Besides if something happened that left us unable to care for any kids we may have...I'm sure your mom would be willing to take them. Right now all we can do is take this relationship one day at a time, okay? You're not pregnant right now are you? Becuase if you are..." Marty started to babble.
"No, Marty, I'm not pregnant. We didn't go that far tonight and I've had a bit of a dry spell lately." Kensi admitted trying not to blush. "Oh? So that's why you wanted to do something today?" Marty asked the twinkle returning to his eyes.
"Shut up." Kensi muttered. "Okay, what I was saying is you're not pregnant yet...so that is something we don't have to worry about right now. I love you, Kensi Marie Blye as I have loved no one else in my life." Marty told her and Kensi looked at him wanting to say the words back...but they wouldn't come.
She was afraid this was just another dream she would wake up from.
"I-I..." Kensi tried, but the words wouldn't leave her mouth.
"You don't have to say it, Kensi, just say it when you feel ready." Marty assured her and Kensi looked down at his hand in hers before looking back at him. "Okay." Kensi said. "Okay." Marty echoed.
"How about some dinner and an episode of America's Next Top Model?" Kensi suggested. "I'll make dinner and then we can watch your show." Marty said getting up from the couch.
"You're going to cook dinner?" Kensi asked as she got up to follow him, her hand smacking his butt and making him look at her.
"At least I can cook without having to warn the fire department and I know not to put tin foil in the microwave." Marty shot back with a smile.
