Chapter eight:
Mello wonders if L is aware of their investigation so he messages back to Matt asking the other what the detective said.
Matt gets back to him rather quickly.
He said that he had figured out that the body wasn't actually Near and that he knows that we figured that out as well. He is proposing that we work together to figure this whole thing out.
Mello stares at the message for a long moment. He supposes that he should have figured that L would have at least figured that part out.
They are getting so close to rescuing Near, should they really take a pause on this in order to just work with L on this?
Mello mentally shakes it off.
They've come too far to just include L in all of this. They can worry about including him later maybe if they need help with the group to make sure that they don't act again.
Mello sends a message to Matt who is waiting to see what they should say.
Tell him that we have gotten pretty far in our investigation. We will contact him if we need help however right now we need to continue on the work we've been doing. To not lose this momentum.
Matt simply responds with an 'okay' to this.
Mello puts his phone away deciding to not bring up what had just happened right now. He can worry about that whole thing later.
They finally arrive though initially drive past it as if just going past. They continue past the first turn to take the second turn as two people out front are watching the car as it goes past. They stop in front of a house and wait for a few moments as Mello checks in with Matt about any cameras.
Matt sends them a map of the place that they are going to be entering. He also has marked the cameras viewpoints on the map that he had sent. He even added where the most guards were seen. He made sure to be quite detailed to help them get into the place.
They all look at the map to figure out the best route to take to look for Near.
"Okay." Rai is the first to decide on a for sure plan. "So we will enter through here." She points to a generator type room including a place to help the AC and heater of the building. "There will likely be an open window to ventilate the room. We can change the plan if there isn't one there. We will go from there and get into the building. From the information we have on the rooms we will need to check these ones. So this has got to be the best path to do this. We can focus on the guards. Mello you can try to see if Near is there and get him out of there. Message us once you have him in a safe place if we are separated. The others are on standby around the area just in case things go south. They'll be a last resort fighting the group while we try to get Near to safety." She doesn't say it though Mello has this feeling that she also plans to unleash the others upon the group to take them out once and for all after Near is safe.
Mello decides to ignore that part as that part isn't really his business. He is just here to get Near away and what happens to the group after isn't something that he really cares about. "I think that sounds like a good plan." He confirms and they get out of the car. He feels a bit nervous even though he doesn't let it show. He know that this could make or break the case and truly let Near live or die. He knows how important it is that they get this right. He blinks as he hesitates for a moment while the others start to head in the direction they need to go in. He finds that he just wants Near alive. He doesn't want to beat Near as a rival, he just wants the other to survive this ordeal. He isn't sure what will be next if he does get Near out of this alive. He mentally shakes off those thoughts deciding that there is more important things to worry about right now. He needs to get Near out of this with his life intact. He heads to follow the others as they sneak through some backyards checking for anyone home before going past.
They also watch out for any noticeable cameras just in case. They reach the side of the building that they need to be on.
Rai turns out to be right that the window is open though not wide enough for them to crawl through.
The man works on quietly opening the window wider while Mello and Rai stay as lookouts for anyone coming who might catch them.
Once the window is open wide enough for them to get through they slip inside one at a time keeping their entrance as quietly as possible.
Mello is the first to cautiously peek out of the door that leads into the room. He doesn't see anyone right away though carefully scans the area just in case. He manages to keep his breathing quiet even as his heart is pounding in his chest. He leads the way out of the room with the other two following him. He slows to a stop to peek around a corner. He spots two guards with rifles standing outside of the room that they need to head into. He ducks back around the corner so he isn't noticed. "The first room has two guards with rifles." He whispers trying to be as quiet as he can be.
"We've got them. You wait in this room." Rai gestures to a dark storage room that has the door ajar. "When you hear them go past you go check the room."
Mello nods and ducks into the dark room. He feels around until he finds a spot under a shelf that he slides himself under to hide. He waits as he closely listens for the other two to head to get the guards out of the way. He just hopes that whatever the two have in mind it won't cause trouble by alerting the group that there is intruders in the building. He has no choice now but to wait and see what will happen.
