A/N: Short but sweet!

It was her last day in Pittsburgh before heading off to the Kellogg's Tour rehearsals the next day. Since their kiss when she'd arrived home, nothing else had happened. But then again, they'd hardly had any time to spend together.

But today was different. Today, she had purposely kept the whole day free just to spend with her… best friend? Boyfriend?

Who knew.

There was a carnival in town, and they had decided to spend the day there. They'd had a lot of fun, riding the little rides and wasting more money than they should have on the sideshow games. Will had won JJ a large stuffed dog at the air rifle booth, making JJ laugh with his faux egotistical behaviour. The day was almost at an end, the sun having dipped beneath the horizon nearly half an hour before, leaving them bathed in the warm glow of the carnival lights and wrapped in the late summer breeze.

"Let's go on the ferris wheel," Will said with a smile, gently tugging her over to the wheel that stood nearby. She followed, smiling as he paid for the two of them to ride. Moments later, they were clambering into an empty carriage, comfortably side by side as the attendant shut them in.

The wheel began to slowly amble its way up around, lifting them up in the darkened sky. It stopped about a quarter of the way up, clearly letting someone else on. While they were stopped, JJ took in the view of Pittsburgh in the distance. Lights lit up the night sky, making her feel, for the first time in quite a long time, incredibly relaxed.

Will shifted beside her, and before she quite knew what was happening, he was hesitantly taking her hand. She looked up at him, breaking into a smile as she laced her fingers with his and closed their hands together. It had been… not awkward… but definitely different. They hadn't really discussed their kiss. Neither of them really knew what to say. Navigating their way through this change wasn't going to be straightforward, but JJ was determined to see it through.

"I don't really know what I'm going to do without you for two months," Will said softly to break the silence, laughing.

"You've survived all the other times I've vanished from reality into the gym world," JJ teased lightly, earning another chuckle from Will.

"Yeah, but… this time it's different," he replied. JJ stayed silent for a moment. Then she nodded slowly, agreeing with him as the wheel creaked its way to the very top.

"At least now I have something more to look forward to when you get home," he said gently. JJ couldn't help but smile, her heart swelling with warmth.

"I don't really want to go anymore," she admitted quietly. "I… want to stay here. With you"

A gust of cold air blew across them, making JJ shiver. Automatically, Will let go of her hand, putting his arm around her shoulders and drawing her in a little closer to keep her warm.

"As much as I'd love that," Will chuckled, "you have to go. You don't get this kind of opportunity every day. You're gonna go, and be amazing, and have the best time… and I promise I'll be waiting when you get back. Nothing is going to change from now"

They sat in silence for a little longer, taking in the beautiful view as the wheel slowly ambled its way back around. She so badly wanted to fully affirm everything… but she was the one who had wanted to wait until after tour.

And then JJ turned, bringing her hand up to cup Will's cheek as she pulled him in for a soft kiss. He pulled her closer, reciprocating the kiss by parting his lips ever so slightly. His arm was tight and comforting around her shoulders, holding her to him in a way she'd never been held before. She didn't know how long they were locked together, but when they pulled away, they were almost on the ground. She looked straight up at him, a smile playing on her mouth.

"Don't say anything yet," she whispered. "After tour"

Will nodded, swallowing thickly, her hand still cupping his cheek.

"I know what I want us to be," she said softly. "I just don't want to make anything official and then leave it untouched for two months. It'll be unbearable"

Will didn't speak. Instead, he closed the gap again, pressing an affirmative yet gentle kiss to her lips.

And JJ felt like she was soaring all over again.
