A/N: Short, but sweet!
Time had flown so fast that when she walked off the aerobridge and into the terminal at Pittsburgh Airport, she could hardly believe it had been a month since she had left.
Her parents and Nick were right behind her. Somehow, her mom and dad had managed to tee up their own return tickets so they were all flying home together. It had been a long journey to get home, starting with a half hour drive from Antwerp to Brussels, then an hour and a half flight from Brussels to London Heathrow. The layover in Heathrow had been ok, with the three hour wait long enough for them to grab something to eat and stretch their legs before the long flight. Then they had boarded the eight hour flight across the pond back to New York, where they had three hours to clear immigration and customs before changing terminals and rechecking their luggage. It had been a tight connection, with the evening bank of arrivals at the international concourse making the immigration queues a nightmare, but finally, they were home.
"I'm so ready for my bed," JJ said with a yawn as they followed the pathways out towards the arrivals hall. "My bed, and a break"
Nick laughed. "Yes. You need to take a break. You've worked super hard this year, and I don't want that old lady body of yours breaking down"
"Rude," JJ shot back, grinning as she nudged Nick in the side. Yawning again, she followed as her dad led the way through the automatic doors that took them out into the main hall.
She was a little bleary eyed from a long day of travelling, and the late hour of the evening didn't help. The time change from Belgium was wreaking havoc on her body, which currently thought it was almost five in the morning.
"Bags, taxi, shower, and bed, hey?" Sandy said with a smile, giving JJ a quick squeeze as they made their way towards the bank of baggage carousels. JJ nodded, thinking longingly of her own shower as she hoisted her backpack a little higher on her shoulders.
She looked up, stepping to the side of her dad as they weaved through the light crowd of people littering the hall. And then, as her dad turned to say something to her mom, she saw a familiar face looking straight at her from beside one of the carousels.
"Will!" she exclaimed, dropping her bag where she stood and breaking into a run. Beaming from ear to ear, she threw herself at him, jumping into his arms and looping her legs around his waist. He laughed, catching her easily and squeezing her tight.
"And just like that, we might as well be passersby," Sandy said dryly, earning a laugh out of Michael and Nick.
Still unable to contain her smile, JJ brought her hands to cup Will's jaw. For a moment, she simply stared into his eyes, but then she leaned in, pressing a deep kiss to his lips.
"Jeez, I wish Tash would be that excited to see me," Nick said with a grin. "But all I'll get is a 'the sink's broken, can you fix it?' and 'stop hogging the covers or you can sleep on the couch'"
Sandy and Michael laughed.
"The joys of being married for years, hey Nick?" Michael said with a grin. "Sandy says I don't just hog the covers, I hog the whole bed"
"You do," Sandy replied with a smirk, before spying one of their bags on the carousel and heading over to grab it.
A few yards away, Will let JJ back onto her feet, before wrapping his arms around her and giving her a tight hug, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
"God, I missed you. It was only a month and I missed you like crazy," he murmured, making JJ smile into the fabric of his t-shirt.
"The feeling is definitely mutual, babe," JJ replied, lifting her head and looking up at him with a smile. "But did you see me win?"
Will laughed, leaning down and pressing another kiss to the tip of her nose. "I sure did. You were amazin'. My one and only beam queen"
Giggling, JJ turned so that Will's arm was wrapped around her shoulders, looping her arm around his waist as they walked back over to where her parents and Nick were standing.
"Thought I'd give you guys a ride home rather than have you taking a taxi at this time of night," Will said warmly as they reached them.
"Thanks Will, that's really nice of you," Sandy said with a smile. "I've seen some of the taxi drivers around here, and I honestly feel like I'd end up on an episode of Law & Order if we took one"
It was nearly an hour later when they finally pulled into the driveway of the Jareau house, having dropped Nick off along the way. Exhausted, jetlagged, and cold from the sudden bite of the October night air, they had made quick work of getting their bags inside. After a quick shower, JJ changed into one of Will's t-shirts and crawled beneath the covers, Will right beside her.
She curled up on her side, smiling when Will shuffled up behind her and looped an arm over her side. He nuzzled at her ear, pressing a few light kisses to her neck and jawbone before settling down behind her again.
"I really did miss you. I felt ridiculous since we talked everyday, but... I just wanted to hug you more than anything," JJ said softly, her eyes already drifting closed. She felt Will pull her a little closer, prompting her to lift her arm and rest it on top of his, her fingers intertwining with his.
"You were off doing what you love most. Except me," Will said, getting a giggle out of JJ. "And you're back here now, and we have more time to spend together for a while until you go back to full-time training"
Snuggling down further beneath the covers, JJ was already struggling to stay awake. Will sensed this, lifting his head to press a quick kiss to her cheek.
"But first, babe, you need to sleep. We've got all the time in the world"
