A/N: This one's pretty cute

Foggy. Dazed. Confused.

That was all JJ registered when her heavy eyes began to flutter open. At first, the haze of drugs was beckoning her back under, dragging her eyelids down. All around her, the bustle of wherever she was in the hospital filled her ears in what felt like magnified sound. She grimaced, one of her hands sluggishly coming up to grasp the oxygen mask she could now feel on her face.

"Hey beautiful, welcome back to the land o' the livin'"

She knew that voice. Forcing her eyes open, she stared up through a drug induced blur, her tired eyes struggling to focus on the face swimming above her. It took a few moments, but eventually, Will's handsome face came into focus, his expression one of love and concern as he smiled down at her.

"Hey there. Nice to see you again," he said, his hand coming to the top of her head. He gave her a moment to get her bearings, his thumb gently stroking back and forth against the top of her forehead.

"Where am I?" she croaked, her voice raspy from the constant flow of oxygen down her throat.

"You're back in your room Jayje," came her mom's gentle voice from nearby. Dragging her gaze away from Will, JJ found her mom sitting on her other side, towards the end of the bed, her dad standing behind her with his hands resting on the back of the chair. "You've been awake for a little while, you were in recovery, but they kinda doped you up, so you probably don't remember that"

JJ shook her head, letting out a heavy breath as she tilted her head back towards Will. He broke into a grin, chuckling as he took in her drugged up stupor.

"You're not getting laid for a while," she mumbled, her eyes barely open as she spoke. Michael coughed, Will turning red as Sandy chuckled from her chair.

"Thanks JJ, I really wanted to have that discussion in front of your parents," he said awkwardly. He looked up, immediately making eye contact with Michael, which only served to deepen the red flush in his cheeks.

"I love you," JJ said softly, opening her eyes again as she looked up at him. He smiled, letting out a chuckle as he smoothed her hair off of her face.

"I love you too Jayje"

She took a deep breath, trying to force herself to wake up, but as she did, she was aware of a sickening twisting feeling that seemed to be creeping up her chest. It didn't go unnoticed by her mother, who immediately noticed the ashen colour JJ's face had turned.

"Will, sit her up, she's going to be sick!" Sandy said quickly, jumping out of her chair and grabbing the basin that was sitting nearby. Will easily slid an arm beneath her, sitting her up enough for Sandy to get the basin beneath her chin just in time for a horrendous upheaval of bile to make an appearance. Sandy grimaced, prompting Michael to step in and take her place; she had never been good with any of her kids getting sick.

"Nice Jayje, it's bright green," Michael teased when the vomiting stopped, waiting a few moments before carrying the basin over to the bathroom as Will handed JJ some tissues to wipe her mouth. In the midst of all the commotion, the door to her room opened and in came a young nurse.

"I feel like shit," JJ mumbled, slowly laying back down once she had wiped her face.

"Not feeling too good?" the nurse asked kindly. JJ shook her head.

"She just threw up," Michael chimed in from the bathroom door. "Like, a lot"

"It's probably the anesthesia hon. I'll get the doctor to order you for some Zofran, that'll help you feel a lot better"

Still groggy and exhausted from the sedation, JJ allowed her eyes to drift closed as Will gently stroked the top of her head. She wasn't even aware of the nurse checking her blood pressure as she drifted back off to sleep, her entire body in a numb fog from the cocktail of painkillers and other medications racing through her system.

It was evening by the time the effects of sedation had worn off and JJ was feeling more like herself. Will had taken up residence beside her on her bed, JJ curled into his side as best as she could manage with a cast on her leg. Her head was tucked beneath his chin as they watched videos together on his phone, occasionally laughing at whatever was going on.

"Guess we're at the point where we're not really needed anymore, hey?" Michael said with a small smile as he came up behind Sandy who was standing just inside the door. She smiled, thanking him silently as he handed her a bottle of water.

"I know… part of me still sees her as that little girl who refused to let us out of her sight," Sandy said with a little chuckle. "But then I have to remind myself that she's an adult now and even though she's half the size of an average adult, she is capable of looking after herself"

Michael grinned, nodding in agreement. "It's actually surprised me how much she's matured this year. Remember in Rotterdam, when she dislocated her shoulder? And the moment we first saw her in the hospital, she just burst into tears"

"I know," Sandy said, sighing as she leaned back against her husband. "She's like a totally different person now"

Her entire arm felt numb and on edge, like the slightest wrong movement was going to send her joint crunching back into place. It didn't hurt as much as it felt incredibly uncomfortable. No… the shock of her joint giving way had made it worse at first.

Nick had disappeared ten minutes ago, needing to make a phone call, most likely to Martha. She hoped he was coming back soon… she hated to admit it but she was scared.

Tears burned in her eyes, her face pale and overwhelmed as she watched the doctors and nurses bustling around her. Hurried conversations in thick Dutch met her ears, only heightening the anxiety she was feeling. Here she was, in a hospital where they primarily spoke a language she didn't understand, just sixteen years old. Even though Nick would be back, she felt alone. Scared, and alone.

And then a familiar face appeared directly before her at the end of the hall, anxious and rushing to get to her.

When her eyes met her mother's, she couldn't help it. She burst into tears.

"Mom," she sobbed, the tears coming in great big gasps as she reached her good hand out towards her mother.

"Oh baby, are you ok? Are you in pain?" Sandy gushed as she reached her, Michael hot on her heels. JJ ignored her questions, barely able to speak through sobs.

"I… I let every...one down," she cried, making tears spring to Sandy's eyes. "First event… and they're… down one. I let them all… down"

"No you didn't sweetheart, don't you believe that for a second," Sandy said softly, gently stroking the top of JJ's head. "You got injured by accident. There's a difference between that and making costly mistakes. You haven't let anyone down, you went out there and tried your best"

"I let you down," JJ said tearfully, wrenching Sandy's heart. "You came all this way-"

"-and we got to see you on the world stage, even if it was just for a few minutes. Don't cry, JJ, I promise you haven't let us down. It just wasn't your year. Next year will be better"

"Accidents happen Jaybird," Michael said sweetly, coming around to JJ's other side and taking her good hand. "It'll be ok"

"What if Martha doesn't want me anymore?"

"One injury won't write you off," Michael said warmly, pressing a kiss to the back of his daughter's hand. "I promise"

"Sorry guys, visiting hours are over," came the voice of JJ's nurse, Sam, who had stuck her head into the room on her way past. JJ looked up from Will's phone, her face falling as she processed what had been said. She playfully stuck out her lower lip, looking up at Will, who laughed and pulled her into a hug.

"I'll see you tomorrow, crash test dummy," he said with a grin. JJ elbowed him in the ribs, making him yelp as she squirmed out of his grip and smirked at him.

"I told you to stop calling me that, smartass"

"And now it's like when they were kids," Michael said dryly, earning a laugh out of Sandy as they moved towards the bed to bid JJ goodnight.

"Get some sleep, ok? Hopefully the doctor clears you to come home tomorrow," Sandy said, leaning down to give JJ a hug. JJ returned the gesture, accepting another hug from her dad. Will hung back, waiting until they had both left so it was just him and JJ.

"I'll come back in the morning if you want," he said, sitting facing her on the edge of the bed. "Otherwise just let me know when you're coming home and I'll come over"

JJ waggled her eyebrows. "You mean you would willingly pass up on seeing me in the finest surgical ward couture? Complete with bed head, puke breath, and bags under my eyes the size of a suitcase?"

Will laughed. "You look beautiful Jayje. And also, you've brushed your teeth so you can eliminate one thing off the list"

"Uh huh, you just say that because you're biased," JJ said with a smirk.

Leaning in until he was just centimeters away, he gave her a handsome smile. "No… I say that because it's true"

He pressed a kiss to her lips, short and chaste, yet still sweet. She smiled as they pulled apart, bringing up a hand to cup his cheek.

"I love you. Thanks for hanging out with my dopey ass today"

Will chuckled. "Jayje, there's nowhere I'd rather have been"
